Found myself yelling Qf4, Qf4!!!!! My wife said, "What are you yelling about?" I said, "He's going to beat Alekhine!!!!!" Never thought I would get excited about a chess game! Thanks Mato!
It is refreshing to see a game where Alekhine lost, after all his victories here. It shows that even the best player can lose when he risks too much or underestimates his opponent. A very valuable lesson, Mato. Thank you for this video.
That was impressive. Alekhine missed a chance and took a few dubious chances, but Botella played methodically nearly the whole way. It probably became Botella's fondest memory: the day he defeated a World Champion.
If you find more of these interesting games where world champions lost to players who were mostly unknown, I would be interested to see more. Especially if the game wasn't lost on something simple like forgetting a piece is under attack or allowing a fork because it was overlooked. These positional blunders are somehow more interesting to me. I have probably watched half of all the videos you've made so far, I have to dig deep into your history to find ones I have yet to watch. :) Subscribed and liked many times.
It is known that Alekhine lost many a game while intoxicated, especially his first match with Euwe. How about a series on Alekine’s intoxication losses?
Alekhine's games are all like as if he is a timeless, fictional character who does not age and just been to the all places of the world. Like James Bond, he never ages and has been to everywhere. Alekhine has played chess at soo many different places (considering how it was hard to travel then) it all feels unreal
Perhaps, Alekhine had problem with the time control against 40 players, and played without thinking with Mr. Botella. Alternative view is, he was in hurry for toilet and the glass of water in front of Mr. Botella provoked him pissing the game.
Actually, Alekhine had Alcohol problems. That’s how he lost his first match with Euwe. If I played Alekhine, I’d be sure to have a fresh new everclear cocktail ready for him each got around to me. After 20 moves, he’d be plastered.
Wow, what a game! I feel like Botella's play style really resonated with my own, even though I'm not one third as good. Is there any way to see more of his games? I couldn't find anything about him on-line unfortunately.
Botella did his duty to play his best game against a World Champion, even at the risk of beating him. There is no better way to honor such a World Champion such as Alekhine.
Mato, I felt that Alekhine was at disadvantage since ba3...is that move a big blunder or did he make other mistakes? I never saw Alekhine lose like this
Was M. Botella a wealthy man? Only explanation I can find is he bought Alekhine to make these colossal blunders. One blunder in time trouble late in a game is possible even for Alekhine, but three? And the worst quite early? I don't believe it...
+MatoJelic Yes! I got the feeling that Alekhine is subtly guiding his opponent towards a mating combination - of himself. Oh, and by the way: Can't remember if you've done them already, but mostly all of the encounters between Capablanca and Alekhine were exellent, and Capa actually came out on top - after which Alekhine refused to accept Capablanca's challenge for WCS - even when FIDE tried to use the rules to force him, Alekhine still refuced, which remains a blemish on Alekhine's reputation...
Dear Mato, I have been following you for years and love your analysing style and sense of humour. however your mocking of Botella at the beginning of the video (he s probably the best player in his street, it looks like Botella knows how to play etc.) didn't match your politeness and gentleman style. Just felt like I had to give this feedback.

A great example how Nimzo-Indian defense should be played. Thank you Mato.
Mato you keep making my days everyday. I thank you very much, sir.
finally alekhin lost
ما شاء الله الشعب كلو يحب الشطرنج
That was impressive. Alekhine missed a chance and took a few dubious chances, but Botella played methodically nearly the whole way. It probably became Botella's fondest memory: the day he defeated a World Champion.
He would talk endlessly about his win and everybody avoided him. His dog liked him the same.
+MatoJelic "his dog liked him the same" that was hilarious
MatoJelic Well, there's no silver lining that comes without a dark cloud!
+MatoJelic I would talk endlessly about a win over Alekhine, too. ☺
@@MatoJelic hence they are man's best friends :D
I laughed out loud at the 'obvious move' part. Keep up the good work Mato.

Good game & analysis. It is nice to have a surprise once in a while, where the genius you are focusing on ends up losing.
Fino je zasvirati, ali i za pas zadjenuti! - says and old saying. I'm glad this video eventually came out and we see tides turn on Alekhine.
That's an interesting game. Thanks Mato for the surprise finish!
awesome video! thank you Mato!
Great video as usual Mato
wow mato replied to almost every comment. keep it up mato!
L value a good chess game and it is rare to see a non-victim against Alekhine. Excellent work Botella! Thank you Mato for your work!
Hi Mato, I really love your videos. Could you please show some more games where black wins. That will be a great learning experience. Thanks
Very inspiring game to motivate players with a relatively low rating to continue battling against higher rated players.
GREAT GAME TO LEARN LOT. THANKS FOR VIDEO
even in a loss Alekhine had a certain Flair to the way that he played, just as Mato has a very special Flair to the way that he presents these videos
Love to see this one.
I thought Mato was just joking and switched Alekhine w/ Botella
Osum Osum Osum Game With 100×Osuk Words From Our MatoJelic.
Thanks Dear Mato..:)

Very good video . Thank you
It is known that Alekhine lost many a game while intoxicated, especially his first match with Euwe. How about a series on Alekine’s intoxication losses?
In 5:34 what if white played fxg6?

Alekhine 07. Action super hero
The kind of game you tell your grandchildren about...if you win.
Im gonna cry now...
Perhaps, Alekhine had problem with the time control against 40 players, and played without thinking with Mr. Botella. Alternative view is, he was in hurry for toilet and the glass of water in front of Mr. Botella provoked him pissing the game.
The second view is likely to happened :)))
Alekhine ignored all glasses of water in his life ..

As Mato said western media would off line Botella's videos because they were narrow beings. Only his family could be keeping records.
alekhine is recognized famous chess genius and world chess champion, he will remain in chess history forever
simultaneous exhibition is not a real championship, on the other hand it is still a great achievement my dog would be proud of me.
Botella did his duty to play his best game against a World Champion, even at the risk of beating him. There is no better way to honor such a World Champion such as Alekhine.
Wow Great game from Botella!
That joke about NN is kind of funny and possibly quite true
what about in the critical position, where white resigned, Nb3+?
Great game!
great game!
That king walk is never fun if you're on the wrong side of it. He's walking to his own execution.
finally Alekhine lost, why am i relieved now ?
Probably because he lost
Unbelieveable, he was lost the game againts "only" the best chess player in the city :O
That is why I strongly feel all the famous are not genuine because there are many unsung, unshown, untold peoples and places
I have never witnessed an Alekhine loss. Kudos to Botella !
Terrific game, great comments. Champion on his street, lol
This is probably one of the games where his drinking problem factored in...
why wouldn't he play Rc1 instead of f5?
I feel sad for your commentary, I mean how was alekhine feels after he lost the game 😭😭 gg alekhine
He felt bad. He never went back to that city again
chapeau!! Botella
Mato, I felt that Alekhine was at disadvantage since ba3...is that move a big blunder or did he make other mistakes? I never saw Alekhine lose like this
f4 was a blunder

botella sounds yummy... nutella yum yum
This is the moment I have been waiting for like life. Alekhine lost :)
A little surprise, for once.
I like Bible passages, cause they are all from one shepherd...
Wow And alekHine RESIGN WHAT the Game, What do u think about this Game
It happened because alekhine took him as general player and played commonly.... that's why he didn't developed as much stronger as he always do...
What what what???? Alekhine resigned??? Botella stifled Alekhine and mated him like a noob. OMG
Probably Botella's Immortal!
At 6:15 I would play Horsee to F3, give a check with Horse and take the white Queen with my Black Queen Goddess.
0:32 ooo..
Mato, please more Botella games!! Just kidding...
Unfortunately after this game Bottela stopped playing chess-he decided to run for president
Like Kasparov did... Perhaps Kasparov was inspired by Bottela
Alekhine is interesting, especially when he loses!
Was M. Botella a wealthy man? Only explanation I can find is he bought Alekhine to make these colossal blunders. One blunder in time trouble late in a game is possible even for Alekhine, but three? And the worst quite early? I don't believe it...
I am suspicious about this game too

alekhine just discussed with his wife at the morning and didn t had a good day
mato the great☺😊
Sorry Mato;
There was no joy watching Alekhine lose!
I liked it actually xD
This video was made because of the popular demand
Alekhine screwed up more than me in blitz
Alekhine had only few seconds for every move
Wise quote from Bible/Torah
that's all
Dear Amer Ali that is all for now
+MatoJelic u are great man

Although you followed me for years you didn't get it. I was downplaying his strength. I wanted his win to be a total suprise in the end
Glas water...magic water
interestingly i found the best move was QB3 and Alekhine didn"t hhh
1st?
Well done.
Alekhine lost??? I was expecting Mato says that JUST KIDDING Alekhine was playing as Black , lol
It was considered
ooh alekhine lost. But well played by block player.
alekhine lost wait what
4th viewer
yeay!!! he lose!!!
I hate this game! I think Alekhine was not concentrating on the game and he was probably drinking too much when he played this game!
