      Depressing? The protagonist has a sad past and a lot of horrible things happens to him, but then karma gives him love in return. It's a beautiful modern fairy tale, rich of meaning.
      Life isn't good, it involves a lot of suffering. but this movie teaches you that trough that suffering you can achieve something beautiful, if you keep your eyes open to the clues that life itself gives you.

    Some critic called this movie "2 hours of unbelievable happiness!"
    This movie is actually super dark and gritty, the only happy part is the ending. The critic must have meant '2 minutes'

      Yo stop ripping on this guy. You do realize Jamal's mother was killed by Hindi terrorists, which orphaned Jamal and his brother, Jamal, Salim, and Latika were groomed to be beggars (which is why the guy blinded one of the boys so that when he begged, people would feel bad and offer him more money). Jamal and Malik had to lie and steal to make a living. Latika was prostituted at 12-14 years old, was a mistress for an old, mean, guy after that, Salim became a hitman and threatened to shoot Jamal. That was all in the first hour of the movie.

    It represents the life of slums, how they are living poor and very difficult lives. And there are lots of slum areas. It wants us to understand their lives so that we can help them. We should not ignore this and be ignorent about it.

      @luna4cegaming 7 лет назад +38

      Waking Vengeance Bro CHILL😒😒 I am not abusing India. India is my country and I love it that's why I am speaking the truth. You do not live here so you do not know how much difference does it make being rich or poor or having politician family. There are people getting killed, but when they are sued, the killer was son of a CM of a state hence the case was ignored. Shitty things like that happen and not because it is India but because of corrupted people who always took money that was meant for slums. You do not live here so you don't know anything.
      Indians who claim to LOVE India turn their back on this thinking its everyday thing and these people are nothing but cowards. At least I have the courage to tell the flaws so that people could see the truth😒😒😒😒 PS. Religion have nothing to do with this. I was not talking about religion

    Loved this movie!! I was anticipating a dark, slow pace, sad movie where I had to over think, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn that wasn't the case. Yes, his childhood wasn't the happiness, but it was fun and entertaining non the less. There was a lot of adventure and it was fun watching the two brothers with their quick wits surviving in spite of how little they had. It wasn't all rainbows and butterflies but I throughly enjoyed it! Watched it for the first time today!

    This movie at first was pretty shaky for me. I thought it was just a flashback of nothing but cliche sad stories in cinema history, and yes it kinda was, but the twist was, their was an answer to every flashback that I really haven't noticed until 20 minutes in the movie that actually had a purpose in the story . I thought that alone was pretty clever, but the amount of twist this movie can provide for you is really mouthwatering to witness. And also knowing that the protagonist's struggle to be with the person he loves is something unique and genuine, that i never seen in any other movie. And also shows no matter where you come from. theirs always someone out there that makes you feel like an absolute millionaire :).

Yes we’re a developing country, we have rich people, successful people, all the western approved things that you’re proud of but this is also the reality of the country. People like this exists and they go through situations like this. @marching on the street I didn't mean to offend you. This movie was based off the novel written by Vikas Sarup, an Indian who wrote it from hearing 1st hand from Jamal Malik. He was the real person in this story and grew up in the Juhu slums of Mumbai. I think there should be more films translated to English from Bollywood. If you have any recommendations, I would love to watch any movies you suggest.

    I finally watched this movie an hour ago. It was - poweful, moving, and mesmerizing. Couldn't stop watching it. Didn't want any food breaks. Didn't move from the couch! It also shows the gritty side of poverty which makes me grateful for what America provides many. Yes, we still have poverty but looking at the scenes in the movie, and the poor children trying to survive daily - was truly heart-wrenching.

    One of my favorites! Got to say this is one of the most REAL films I've ever seen. It's an emotional roller coaster that shows the audience how difficult it can be for someone. The journey was unbelievable and I'd recommend this film very much. And NO I DID NOT JUST WATCH IT AND CRY.

    Wow I remember this movie. Around 2010 or 2011, when we were moving, my family kept playing this movie in our temporary apartment. It was also around my 5th or 6th birthday. The parts that I only remember was him getting interviewed, jumping into a bunch of poop since someone trapped him in there and the girl getting kidnapped in the car. I always wondered what the name of the movie was. It took almost a decade but it was worth it. I can't believe that I'm 14 now. The time flies by

    Well part of the movie is how Jamal Malik and his brother grew up in the slums of Mumbai, and how they struggled there, the story didn't say it was how they grew up in the beautiful Mumbai. It's fine, such an awesome and beautiful movie.
