Your attention to detail has become legendary Dave, as can be clearly see on this wonderful upload...I'm always waiting with anticipation for your next production....Best wishes...Bob
The layout is looking great. Wow little additions and such make a huge difference. Love the running sessions in there too. Your really making the layout come to life. Job well done. I always learn something while watching your videos. Thanks for sharing. Ken.
Hello Dave, WOW !!!!!! What a great way to start 2020. Really enjoyable video with lots of variety. it`s amazing how some of the little things help to bring the layout alive. It is obvious that you enjoy adding the little areas of bushes a shrubs etc. as it allows you to put your own personal touch to the area on which you are working. Cheers Greg
Once again another excellent update Dave. I'm in the process of doing the same kind of thing at the end of the Station on my layout, this video was very helpful..........John.
The 50 Basher Hi, thanks and welcome aboard :-) I’m glad you enjoyed this video and hope you enjoy more if whet I do. Can I just ask, how did you find my channel? :-) Dave
As ever Dave great video nice how you show how to do that bit of vegetation on the sidewall just brings it to life love it m8 nice job Dave at Tinsley tmd
I havent watched the entire video as i am not at that stage on my layout yet but i can say your layout is fantastic and i dont know how you can make it so good!
I like Transport Hi, thanks for watching and for the cool comment :-) I just take my time and as you do things more and more your skills get better :-)
You only need one resistor for all the LEDs. This can be placed on either cable under the baseboard to keep what is above the baseboard as easy to fit into the model as possible. This also means to can install the model and change the brightness later with a different LED as needed.
Andrew Goldberg I looked at both types of circuit and fitting an led across each led was the ‘belt and braces’ circuit. Both work :-) I was told that one resistor can affect the light level differently across the leds.. it’s confusing! I did make reference to the use of only 1 LED in the video too :-) Cheers Dave
@@DeanPark It is not more reliable to have more components ;-) Yes it is possible that there could be small differences in light levels from each LED when supplied via just one resistor but resistors also have tolerances so with your circuit you have the LED tolerance plus the resistor tolerance so the light level differences are more likely to be greater. Anyway the quite small differences in this application do not matter as you are just trying to get an even glow inside the shed that will be seen indirectly outside. One resistor is easier, quicker, more reliable, easier to adjust and (importantly for Scots) cheaper too. I used one in my sheds and it looks fine. Anyway you have built it now so it does not matter any more. This tip will just save you some effort next time.
Dave thanks for the video.....most enjoyable! I can’t help thinking that I’d love to see your video with your trains running at half the speed that your running them. Just a personal preference.
Mark Stafford hi thanks. I tend to run them a little quicker as I’ve had some feedback saying people get bored watching a 60 second clip of a train crawling past lol... but I’ll vary it. The HST on the upper main are replicating a higher speed as it’s a high speed mainline. :-)
DaveClass47 Dave I do believe I’m in the minority on the speed thing. But l do think that running slower is not only more correct but also make your layout bigger. Trains around here creep into stations. I gues they are worried about hurting passengers or something. Not sure why though
In the days when Dave models drivers could run at faster speeds into stations. These days they do crawl in often Partly due to what they are now taught and partly because of over speed sensors in certain places. When I have been on holidays in Belgium it feels like going back to the old days with the trains coming in brakes on full. I think Dave's trains now run at a more realistic speed If you watch some of the early ones they are run quite a bit faster Something Dave realised and corrected
Another great video, have you like me that on Bachmann mk1s the B4 bogies sit the coaches much higher than B1 & commonwealth ones & make the rakes look odd same goes for the LNER bogies they put on their RBUs

Hi Dave, the office block really looks the part and the whole scene is coming together nicely. Soon be time to move on. What's next for the Dean Park treatment mate? Regards Bobby 'T'.
Great details as always Dave, you make the step by step tutorials look so easy, I’ll be referring to the videos when I get to that stage of my layout, by the way where did you source the LED’s from for the shed lighting? Cheers Kevin

1968Concorde hi cheers , glad you enjoyed it. Yeah I had moved the mast around to let me vacuum the over spill of scatter from the tracks down there. It’s been put back now :-) The APT-P is one I’m looking at just now. :-) Cheers Dave
Great video Dave, thanks for sharing... Will you be putting a fence or small hedging alongside the depot line side? Look forward to seeing more soon, cheers, Chris
Another fascinating and instructive video - thank you. Mind you I do have one complaint; once again it's cost me money as the cable drums and pallets are just what I want!
Great video as usual, did the shed lights paint give you the effect you wanted. As in the 80's my dad used to paint his fog lights with a van yellow paint. Which might be useful. For future builds
Looking good. I found on the Hornby Class 66 project I've been working on that gluing SMD leds with superglue is a bad idea. If you get any on the glass, it seems to either overheat or cause the glass to weaken. Either way it seems to shatter overtime. Did you use enamel or acrylic paint to paint the LEDs? It'll be interesting to see how they hold up. Any reason you didn't just use yellow LEDs? :)
oorail.com yellow was too yellow. These were painted using tamiya acrylic clear yellow. Designed for painting on headlights of model and RC cars etc. LED run cold so there is no heat etc passed to the led. I tested it with a continuous 4 hours of illumination on a test led. It had no effect on the led or the paint. So here’s hoping they’re fine.
Dave, your layout never ceases to impress. I just love your videos, your patience and your attention to detail is mind blowing. What on earth will you do when your layout is finished. I also wonder what a layout in N gauge would look like if you built one, especially as N gauge is my forte. Regards Chris
ChrisWC342 Cheers Chris! Do we ever finish our layouts? Lol.... I’ve a good 3-4 years left here I think. Then who knows.... start the station rebuild?!... or more likely a smell exhibition layout would be an ambition of mine. But in the meantime lots to do at the depot :-) n gauge.... hmm never thought about that! cheers.
Just Wow ! love the lighting effect in the shed ... where did the leds come from Dave ....? I am looking to replicate gaslights and a dull yellow would really suit the application Great Video mate
Thanks Dave, very interesting video with some good tips, advice and techniques. Look forward to trying some out when I get Pevenbourne to that stage. Incidentally, it’s interesting to hear you describe those the cases as relay boxes, is that a usual Scottish term ? Throughout my Railway career (admittedly 99% of which was in Southern England), my colleagues and I have always referred to them as Location Cases. They contain signalling relays, signalling power supplies, various cables for signalling and also for telecommunications plus lots of other types of Signalling and Telecommunications wizardry ! Would you mind me asking what sort of wood you use for your baseboard construction ? Best wishes.....
Bryan Lane Yeah they are relay boxes to me. Wills kit call them the same. I’m sure different regions / eras have named them different things. I use 12mm birch ply for the main base board and 9mm for the upper raised boards. Cheers Dave
Another great video Dave. Attention to detail indeed. As you may remember I'm not a modeller but love the layout and video's, I was wondering if you were going to add the flashing tail lamps to your coaches or freights, or is that just to fiddley for when your running your trains. Not a criticism at all just wondered. The depot looks great, the lighting just gives it a different dimension, is it based on sections of Haymarket Depot or just various Scottish Depots moulded into your layout. Also i think that's the first time, I've seen your 156 running. I'm normally too busy admiring the 47s. Many thanks for sharing Dave.

Brockwell Lane Cavalex! As they are going for a highly detailed one, with coaches and highly detailed dvt. Hornby will be good, but not as good! That’s my thoughts. You?
I like those cable drums at the start another thing I need to buy now LOL. A small point for future The locations (Relay boxes) have doors front and back and need bringing a little further from the wall 6mm or so. They can be as close as 6 feet from the rail. The depot lights look just right with the dull glow. I will experiment with that idea myself in my station which I bought LED's for recently.
Hi Dave another great video mate the depot is looking great mate i love the lights in the depot build are you going to put tower lights in the depot ? if yes i look forward to see now you do it his i have dummy tower lights in my diesel & elec depot lon don road you do like class 47 locomotives I also love the class 47 locomotives to I remember them on the gsw stranraer line in the 1980s on the day/sleeper service to & from London euston to stranraer harbour intercity boat trains I do miss them at stranraer harbour when I visit ayr and Scotland in the Summer holidays the class 156 are good trains but they not class 47 locomotives trains the emus on the ayr to Glasgow/Edinburgh via carstairs line are great trains we were on that line last year also new emus on the Glasgow Queen street to Edinburgh line good and ever fast I also like your technique you use on scenic work I will be using it on my layout mate goodbye for now clive
I know this is not the appropriate forum, but could not resist... forums.mvgroup.org/index.php?showtopic=81214 "BBC - Dream Me Up Scotty (2013) Alex Norton goes on a Scottish accent safari hunting for the good the bad and the totally bowfing of mock jock acting. Alex Norton goes on a Scottish accent safari hunting for the good the bad and the totally bowfing of mock jock acting.
