Let there be light! Stunning night scenes of Dean Park Depot as the floodlight, depot lamps, interior lighting is installed. Some great modelu figures too and FINALLY I have my large diesel shed weathered. I also show you how to install interior lights - its easy!

This layout is magnificent great work David
Cheers :-)
Great update Dave, thanks for sharing. TMD looks great and very atmospheric with the lighting, all the best, Paul
That is some difference between the original and the later batch of window frames. Excellent stuff as always.
Hi Dave. I watch all your vids and am constantly amazed by your level of detail. I wish I had your patience! I am very impressed with your lighting and will be employing some of these techniques on my own layout. Keep up the great work.. Cheers, Paul
Cheers Paul :-)
I think the sound of that class 37 would be the only reason why I'd go dcc.....could listen to that noise all day 🤤
Dave as always an amazing amount of work and detail. The lighting is absolutely brilliant, so look forward to your videos thank you.
Totaly agree with you Bob westwood
Thank you guys. I really value the people who watch my videos and for those who get in touch with such welcomed feedback. It really lifts my day and makes it worthwhile. Thanks. Dave
I do like the way that you lighted up your depot and all the buildings .I will do the same to the church when it is compleat
34:25 What a terrible place to lose a contact lens!
Magnificent work as we expect from you Dave.
Dave your model railway is looking super. It may well be the best layout on RUclips. Thanks for taking the time to document and to post on to RUclips.
Amazing layout Dave, it's a inspiration to all us modellers and always a joy to watch. Thanks for the viewing.
Liking the realistic lighting levels in the shed
Your layout is massive!
Very realistic!
Keep up the work.
Super work Dave , really great stuff. I do love the depot looks stunning 😎
Amery Junction cheers. Yeah it is great fun to do some shunting in the day or at night. :-)
Looking great Dave and thank you for the plug, I really appreciate it! Alan
Another brilliant update. The effect of the newly installed lighting at the depot blew me away. Absolutely stunning looking. I like the effect of the contrast between the brighter floodlights and 'streetlamps', with the gentler orange/yellow hue of the lighting within the buildings, makes it all overall less uniform.
Soulstorm9000 hi thanks. Yeah I wanted a contrast of colours and of brightness :-)
Hi David excellent update, nice to see your progress. I love the attention to detail, the grime on the windows the staining on the walls round the extractors and vents so realistic. The nighttime lighting adds to the realism its not to bright, I take my hat of to you Sir
Andy Hudson cheers Andy. All my own graft!, it’s taken a while and I try me best! ;-)
Evening Dave. Hope your family and you are well and safe? Great looking lights and very evocative in the dark 😄 Nice shed moves just like a real depot 👍🏻 Well executed making it look so real. I'm still furloughed from work so still making some progress on my layout. Cheers as always Stevie 😎
Stevie Athers. Cheers Stevie. This lockdown has had some benefits.
Thanks again Dave.
Hey Dave, everything is looking awesome. Love the details your adding and really making it stand out. Learned a lot about detailing by watching this video. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe. Ken
M and B Homestead cheers Ken. Glad you enjoyed it and found it useful.
Loe the Iighting around the depot Dave. You nailed it. Also looking forward to seeing your finished control panel as I am currently in the early stages of planning out my control panel along with a setup to house my Ecos and dc controller.
Thanks. The ECOS is a great bit of kit! :-) good luck with your planning. Dave
Hi Dave, absolutely superb scenery, depot - all! Those lights, wow! you have it to perfection I think - lovely to see your hard work paid dividends. Take a wee dram & a pat on the back with congratulations from me ;-) Cheers Iain
M M haha, cheers Iain. Yeah I’m pretty chuffed with the lighting.
The depot looks great at night. I think the weathering is good too. Even today Haymarket looks quite clean as you pass by. I think the modelu figures are some of the best now after seeing them at their trade stand. I need to get a few more of the workmen without hard hats if possible. They were not generally worn until recently.
Hi Dave, I have to say the lighting of the depot at night is absolutely brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire video. Your slogan Driven by Detail really has come to the fore in this video. Congrats. Cheers Greg
Gregory Hale cheers Greg. I’m pretty pleased with the lights if I’m honest :-) Dave
Hi Dave great video really loved the way you weathered the factory windows very convincing and the lighting to the Diesel Depo is great looks awsome well done. Thanks for the update.
Giles Forrest cheers, Yeah thanks. Both buildings are progressing. Will keep working on them o er the coming weeks.
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing it with us. You have a very interessante layout and it’s always a pleasure to see your videos. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Great work Dave. The lighting, both interior and exterior compliments your modelling and certainly sets the mood!
Quite brilliant again Dave can't solder to save my life you make it look so easy.
Geoff Unsworth haha.. I’m no expert, but I’ve done it a lot and I’m getting better.
Awesome video Dave. I like the lighting on the depot area very much. Well done. Cheers Onno.
Looks amazing Dave love this update and it's format
Absolute brilliant update David Watson much enjoyed watching this weeks update loco yard and sheds etc absolutely amazing great modeling and great information from yourself thanks for sharing. What a inspiration.👍👌take care Dave and stay safe kind of Gary.
Gary Leicester tmd cheers Gary.
As always Dave your TMD just keeps getting better and better each update also i have been following your progress of the TMD on Instagram very nice job.
Exeter Central XL Cheers. Yeah it’s getting there! :-)
Gday Dave Great video lots of excellent work and planning has gone into this I enjoyed the whole lot . Thanks mate Regards Tony Australia
Tony Larkin cheers Tony.
Excellent video Dave depot looks amazing 🙂
Dave ... really great info as usual ... ! love it
Great Video full of detail as usual. Thanks Dave.
Bruce Welsh cheers Bruce,
Brilliant, once again! Well done!
Paul Radon cheers.
Great video Dave the depot is looking great
Cheers Dave 👍
Absolutely fascinating Dave, every step done to perfection and an inspiration every time. Those close coupled coaches look quite magnificent as well Dave....Best wishes...Bob
Robert Masterman cheers Bob. I’m pretty chuffed with the light levels and varied tones. Sets a nice night scene and is good fun to play trains with this depot now :-) cheers. Dave
Hi Dave great video the depot is looking great mate good job Dave stay safe and well clive
The yard lights are worth every penny. Very finely detailed and quite right to install them later on to avoid damage. I think you've got the general lighting level spot on. I will be copying your dirty window technique on my buildings - especially as a number of them wont have any interior anyway.
Had a quick look at Modelu figures. I particularly like the fact that none of the "workmen" are actually doing any! ;-) I can recommend Dart castings figures too if you haven't tried them.
Quality video Dave, depot really does come to life at night👍
Wardle Road yeah I love it at night
10:09 great video, love the canopy
It looks amazing in the dark.
I have really got the level of light I wanted and really enjoy playing trains in the dark now! lol.Cheers. Dave
Looks great 🌈😷🇬🇧
its getting better every time you show your videos
cheers. I am really happy with the lighting. ;-) Dave
Absolutely brilliant and very satisfying I hope I can do something like that your videos are very interesting thanks for sharing your videos.... :0) .... Chris
Coming on a treat ,on my layout I used several skin tones ,some of my friends are Caribbean they are there and there's a scene of me and my partner she's from Baguio ,Philippines so I've represented her but had to use a shorter figure as she's only 4"11 bless her ,why is there 8 thumbs down jealousy me thinks ,keep safe Dave,Mark
Your attention to detail re weathering on the buildings is second to none. I noticed though on one of the train running sections of the video the cleanest most perfect looking double yellow lines and road surface imaginable at the level crossing. Why go to such detail on the buildings for it to be let down by the road and double yellows? Also you weather your rolling stock but the vehicles look box fresh. Great layout and video as always though Dave. Look forward to your content.
170mushroom I’m not finished yet. As I said in one of my earlier vids the road surface at the crossing is to depict a freshly laid surface, but it was build 5 years ago and I shall revisit it one day.
Perfect ! Just one minor thing...several of the buildings have a base that floats over the ground. Just give the ground a spray of water (if you have fixed the soil with white glue) and then gently press the building down in the soil. Probably This isnt a problem, but everything else is jus FAB ! Thanks for a great video, and take care !
HenrikSweden1 hi. Thanks. Yeah They are set in to the ballast etc as I laid the ground cover with the building in place, then removed it before soaking with glue.... but I can always improve it. Thanks for that feedback. Cheers. Dave
Dave, yet another fantastically informative video. I don't know if you noticed it but between 9:20 - 9:30 I noticed that the 37 coming out of the shed, as it came off the concreted track to the open track the front bogie "jumped". Don'tknow if there is a joint there or the concrete is causing the problem and as you like attention to detail I thought I'd point that out to you in case you hadn't noticed it.
Keep up the brilliance. Stay safe.
Terry Love hi, thanks. No the 37 wasn’t railed properly ... I’d just popped it on the track before the sequence was filmed and I didn’t seat it properly. :-( glad you enjoyed the vid and for your eagled eyed misbehaving 37 bogie 😆. Cheers. Dave
Hi Dave, you might want to make the rails underneath the buffers rusty.
Boiler house lighting is Bob on! Takes ne back to the early eighties.
Iron knob Steelworks Cheers. Yeah I’m really happy with it too.
BTW Dave, Big shout to you for the Ten Commandments site, finally found the LNER style PW Hut I've been looking for for over a year :)
Anglia-N-diesels by SteveS3667 great, glad you found what you were looking for. Cheers. Dave
The best layout I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Everard comes a close second Great work and compliments on the great quality of your how too videos Plenty there to inspire I’m currently working on a what I call a micro diorama the base is from scalemodelscenery 400 x 150 MM I’m hoping to super detail and use it as a rolling road in view to allowing DDC sound fitted locos as I unfortunately do not have space for a proper layout.
Best regards
Kevin
KEVINUK1004 cheers Kevin. I’m really glad you enjoy what I do. Micro dioramas are great for trying out new skills :-) Dave
DaveClass47 indeed I agree very much. Of course being something so small the attention to detail is what makes it something good! Driven by detail you might say 😂
Hi Dave, the depot is looking fantastic! Wondering if you have recommendations for a good soldering iron? Tips on a solid beginner’s airbrush would also be much appreciated - looking for something for my old man for Father’s Day. Apologies if you have covered before! Thanks
Looks really good Dave, loving the flood lights especially, really adds to the scene to make it that bit more realistic. Quick question, at what point/age did you start being serious about model railways and was there anything in particular which prompted you to start a serious model railway? By this I mean move from a 6x4 board to a larger loft layout and start adding scenics. Keep up the great content!
Great stuff, Dave. Those yard lamps sound a lot of money, but looking at them, they're an absolute bargain. Factory windows looking really good too: thank heavens for laser cutting, eh? I've printed the frames onto acetate in the past, but it's not the same. Are the window frames cut out of MDF too?
Hi there love everything you do on your layout how high is your outer loop to the lower track that goes through the station cheers rob
Hi Robb, cheers for that. :-) it’s 95mm Above the lower level. That was so I could use the scalescenes tunnel mouths at my station.
Dave, thought for a minute at the start of the boiler house part you was going to make your own catenary wire ;) lol
lol...behave yourself!
@@DeanPark now come on Dave, im guessing you have plans to do that! you just dont want to admit it... (yet) lol.
Looking great Dave!
Another great video. Have you ever removed the bogie detailing for servicing or weathering on your Bachmann locos? If so any chance of a demo in one of your videos? I know they just push fit clip on but I can’t shift them and feel like I’m about to snap them when trying
Hi I only remove them when servicing, and only if I have to! Bachmann do clip from the back of the bogie and need care to avoid damage.
The only issue is that your floodlights cast light on the backdrop, which spoils the illusion a little. Maybe a bit of a shade on the rear of the floodlights, or some similar trick, could reduce the effect.
As always, it's a pleasure to see your progress.
Hi, thanks. Sadly the same can be said for the insulation on the roof where I may get a bit of reflection. Cheers.Dave
Brilliant as always, exquisite detail. Do you do your own laser cutting?
Jason Monk I design it. My mate has a small laser cutter which I get access to, which has been difficult during lockdown!
Hi Dave, A great update, Just one question please?. Did you build the windows yourself or was they laser cut?. many thanks. izzyinn…..
Hi dave have you seen the hornby magazine for June there is the latest cads of the New class91 elec loco it is to have a new pantograph on it mate it looks every interesting clive
clive cobbold hi I have seen the cad, yeah it is a new model from the ground up. But it’s only going to be a poise able one, not electrically operated.
Fantastic informative video, can you tell me what temperature you solder at please? Just starting out with n gauge myself, thanks Paul
Hi I use a antex 25w soldering iron. As for specific temperatures I couldn’t say.
@@DeanPark thanks for that
Brilliant layout, maybe a stupid question but how did you power those LED’s ? I’ve got some LED’s with the resistor already attached but not sure what to use to power them up. Cheers David
David Gregory hi, from a 12v dc power supply.
do you use weaker resistors when you paint the led with clear paint?
😲
What is the product and code of blue paint you painted the factory in please
Dave you may not be aware but Rob from Express models passed away on Saturday night. Jeanette had informed someone on the DEMU forum
Gary Long omg, did he? That’s awful. Is he a one man business? I hope for his legacy it’s not the end of express models?
DaveClass47 too early to tell as apparently both Rob and Jeanette made many of the products but don’t know if she will continue. Think many of us have brought their products in the past, your review and praise of the products was in a way a fitting tribute to Bob.
I’ve got sound
Hey there,
I am from Germany and I have a question.
The lights of the signals show green all the time. Why is that?
I work for Deutsche Bahn and our signals fall back to red when the train has passed them.
Hi. My signals also change when a train passes them. There are sensors in the tracks that trigger it from green to red, to yellow and then back to green. Thanks. Dave
where did you get the road markings
the ones at the station area? www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/rx004-oo-laser-cut-self-adhesive-road-marking-oo4mm176-7984-p.asp?aff=2 they are superb!
Hi can you tell me where you got the wire from thanks
Steve Scania Sorenson thinned enamel covered wire... rapid electronics, RS etc.
DaveClass47 thanks very much brilliant video
🤔
What? All those factory window panes and nary a one broken by an adolescent missile?
Garth Junor ahh!, all the broken ones are at the back where the factory faces a main road! ;-) Dave
Surely for realism there should be some graffiti?
Dave , It's Just Not Weathered Enough , It's Not Realistic
David Cook ok. I’d be interested in practical advice to make it ‘realistic’ When you say ‘it’ what bit do you mean?! How did you weather your layout for example? I’m open to taking on constructive help.
