On the kirin jacket you can swap out the release jewel for a pierce then you can drop the vitality on the garuga and replace it's pierce for a release/vitality jewel. frees up that lvl2 deco slot for another level of agitator.
So I just did some testing in the training area using this gun with pierce 3, with and without special scope. I noticed it only affects the initial contact hit of the pierce round, the after-hits are not affected at all. Imo this makes it worthless considering the level of eye-cancer involved. This was on PC and against the big training dummy thing, it might work properly for monsters but I highly doubt it. Just thought it was worth mentioning.
I know this is a year later lol but if you still don't know divine blessing in Temp mantle makes it so your chip damage is very miniscule. You take any damage that won't "send you flying" when still wearing temp mantle. I've died to rajang because of it
You would want a mind's eye deco in the build if you have one. Gives much greater flexibility (effective at closer ranges) on the effective range of pierce.
I think that the difference between this one and nargacuga's bowgun depends on your preference. Do you value built in affinity more or more augment slots
Hi, im doing this build on PC and i realized that the HBG you show is lvl 3 and you can slot atack 3 and afinity 1 but mine only lets me lvlv it up to lvl 2 so i can only slot in atack boost 2 and afinity 1, is there something im missing?
I feel like tsp would be better for a pierce build rather than trying to build max might. In the long run you want to get off as many shots as possible, and especially with pierce ammo after a trap or paralysis your damage racks up incredibly fast if you're able to stave off reloading for as long as possible. Maybe a build like Narga B+ helm, body, and gauntlets, Odogaron B+ waist, and Gargua B+ legs would be better for overall damage. It doesn't have as many jewel slots, but it has decent enough skills. With pierce, for me anyway, it seems like it'd be easier using an "endless" crit build than playing around with max might on a slow weapon. Maybe replacing the shield mod with a second ranged attack up would be viable for this build too since you'd have innate evade window.
Your doing less with special scope. I know it's supposed to be like 30% more dmg per hit, but before that you were hitting 41 as a max hit, then after you put it on you went down to 38 and never went over... you were in critical range more than once so idk why it wasnt working properly...
The issue was he was also constantly moving OUT of the scope range. The scope's extremely tight on the distance and I was watching it constantly deactivate as he was just moving when he did not need to move.

I prefer the standard anti material look of the heavy bowguns myself but I did end up building the narga one because I lost my save and had to restart so I had no augmentation materials.
Maximum might is really only good if you're running the set bonus to bring it to lvl 5 and activate instantly. Otherwise it hardly ever comes into play. Def swap it out for something better.
As long as you're not dodging and running around constantly and just walking around the monster, once stamina is depleted MM comes back and activates in 10 seconds.
Just picked up HBG relatively simple to use and so much fun even if you don't just spam sticky ammo. Of course I made the zinogre HBGbut it's honestly only because he's my favorite enemy in the game I had no idea it was so broken but yeah looking for a piercing ammo gun and luckily I really like viper t k looks like this is what I'll be making

After play many hours with various melee weapons. I fell in love with Ranged. Mainly HBG, LBG second. Don't feel the same with bow, though. I love just chilling back with Crimson Lion and unloading damage.
Shield spire stooge is the name and it does help distract the monster giving you the opportunity to damage but at the same time you got to cheese it like stay near the legs.
I noticed that my weapons did the same damage to low and high rank monsters but as soon I started playing Iceborne all the master rank demons took like half the damage
Have to say I dont like max might for solo play on anything besides LBG(normal non evade reload LBG at that) . Each roll/block/clutch claw makes it go by by so its basically off 90% of the hunt(count MM uptime in his Diablos hunts . Dont think he got 30 sec of it active) . WEX is part dependant but always on (and even better for multiplayer since more people weaken the parts)

Also, if your teammates can keep monsters agro and do the weakening then its another story as well. All comes to the uptime you can keep on MM (so depends on skill level the most I quess)
I guess i'm not the only one who noticed the Diablos' Hitbox is too big. The horns/legs/wing will hit you even if they don't actually collide with your model. It's very jarring getting used to the invisible hitbox for them, specially since the rest of the Monsters seem to have hitboxes that are correct.
The Styx bowgun is better because it comes with spare shot built in and two level three slots. Also damage starts at 420 so you don’t have to bother with all the fuss of farming for upgrades.
He probably does it that way because it's possible to lose material's by craft all, at least that's what I've heard unless they patched it. Not that it would really be a huge deal lol I'm sure he has plenty.

Sorry to bother people but would someone be able to tell me his damage numbers on his build. My video quality is kinda bad and I can't see how much each tick is hitting for. Just curious because I want to see how much better it is compared to the Narg HBG
So on weakened parts, without the scope and not enraged I was seeing 18 -36 so lets say a mid 20's average. With the scope it gets a bit tricky I watched at the 0.5 playback speed and the scope was constantly glowing and not glowing cause of the movement of the monster but it looked like 25-41 so maybe low 30's on average. I never liked the scope and it feels only useful on a non moving targets be it by exhaust, para, traps, or ko'd. I'm sure there people that only use scope and think your crazy for not using it but I'm not one of them.
I certainly can't speak for him, but I know plenty of times, despite temporal mantle/thanks to the shield, I've had to absorb hits while firing the HBG.
Maximum Might is still a terrible pick, you have to dodge occasionally. Crimson Kadachi does have paralysis ammo, with terrible recoil and reloading times. It does have one extra augment but lacks the 5% affinity that Baleful Night has, so it really evens out in that area. Last but not least, you have Divine Blessing +2 on your temporal mantle.
Is the legiana bowgun line still as good in iceborne? It did me well through base game and I was wondering if it's worth pursuing continued upgrades or should I star grinding something else
In SP I'd use pellet over any other kind of bowgun, but in MP I'd never use it, unless I actively want to annoy the other hunters (which I only do with friends, never annoy randoms guys, that's just not nice). I don't know why but the amount of flinching caused y pellet seems higher in Iceborne, at least it feels like it is. Nearly all of my sets have flinch free unintentionally, so when I put one that doesn't and don't realize it, I get so angry that I want to Kick the gunner behind me so hard, then I remember we don't have the kick button anymore.

Isn't Ballistics mandatory on Pierce builds? It'll allow you to gain your Critical Distance even if you're close to the monster, since it disappears when a monster is close to you, meaning that you'll deal more damage.
Lee DuFour - Because monsters tend to get near to you, especially on single player, and if that happens, you lose out on your Critical Distance, which means you lose damage, because that's an inherit characteristic of using Pierce Ammo.
How is it better without affinity augs its has 20 affinity and Tobi without affinity augs mine has 25 affinity because of custom mods (can't do that with Narga). Narga has 7 max aug slots Tobie has 9 so you can only get affinity 2 aug on Narga and Tobi can have affinity 2 and 1 extra deco slot bringing it to 2 lv 1 slots (narga has no deco slots) Narga only has sleep 1 and Tobi has sleep 1 and parlysis 1 and 2 on it.
Batz Image3 but the Nargacuga HBG can use the non elemental boost and you don’t need more than 20% base affinity to get even more than 100% affinity anyways.
Add lavasioth, jyuratodus, glavenus, acidic glavenus, radobaan, diablos, and black diablos. Basically any monster that is medium or long length that you really cant stay close enough to warrant using the loyal thunder for spread 3.
Add Nergi to that, even though if your using HBG on nergi, just use Glutton 2.0 Bazel is by far the best match up, and Namelie one his wings are weakened but this showcase build is , to say the least, not optimal.
Some monsters can still do small damage through temporal. I know Zinogre specifically has a little tail slap that completely ignores it. Might as well mitigate as much dmg as you can, when you can.
I've seen clips of people getting oneshot from full health through temporal by tempered monsters. Kirin's horn pokes are the ones that get me the most 😂
The lion has a very slightly higher attack after all the mods. The Narga will get 1 attack mod and also the 5% total damage increase from non elemental so ignore the other replys to your comment. On a pierce ammo, that's probably 1-3 per shot, if that
Enoshima Junko 5 True Raw on base raw for each augment. The 4 attack augment give 10. Thats insane boost since every other buffer will stack on base raw.
The thing is, the option for upgrade is there and attack is the only option, so why not. The damage buff is meh, on a piece gun, probably the least effect noticeable damage increases in terms of weapons but as I say, if it's there and you already have the one affinity mod then why not take it. I still prefer Narga pierce and my palico uses paralysis on his weapon that extra option means nothing to me
from mobility standpoint theyre different yes. You also have evade reload for LBG. i run guard 5 and 2-3 shield on a pierce HBG build, because i like tanking shit when mons decide to close distance between mean. I literally only roll when i am fire or blast blighted because of the long sheathe time.
@@stevoyah Ya I have been using evade extender for so long if I don't have lv. 2 at least I feel so slow. And when I use shield I just put 3 shield mods and guard up and can block anything I'm sure 5 guard would help with knock back but I never felt like I need it with full health I can take Shara's two handed blast and still have a quarter health

Divine blessing in the temporal mantle seems like a waste, why not add damage jewels since mostly you’d auto dodge the attacks as it were.

I think Pierce works well with diablos, uragaan, bazelgeuse, namielle, and Savage jho. all being pretty relevant fights

I think the best combi would be hunting with a lance user. He can keep the monster in check/soften parts while you hit it from behind.
Kind of difficult as the monster will still target you. Unlike Behemoth, you can't easily pull aggro for your team mates.

Bow may have infinite ammo, but you need an insane amount of investment to it. From Stamina management, Damages, Elementals, etc.

that would be long barrel that speeds up the ammo. power barrel strengthens the pierce shots.
Power barrel increases pierce damage, long barrel is the one that increases flight speed.

Use evade reload it reloads instantly lmao, I think it reloads up to 4 shots (1 per mod) and for LBG, it's a godsend

Narga has 7 max aug slots Tobie has 9 so you can only get affinity 2 aug on Narga and Tobi can have affinity 2 and 1 extra deco slot bringing it to 2 lv 1 slots (narga has no deco slots) Narga only has sleep 1 and Tobi has sleep 1 and parlysis 1 and 2 on it.
Batz Image3 but the Nargacuga HBG can use the non elemental boost and you don’t need more than 20% base affinity to get even more than 100% affinity anyways.

Add lavasioth, jyuratodus, glavenus, acidic glavenus, radobaan, diablos, and black diablos. Basically any monster that is medium or long length that you really cant stay close enough to warrant using the loyal thunder for spread 3.

Bazel is by far the best match up, and Namelie one his wings are weakened but this showcase build is , to say the least, not optimal.

Why do you have divine protection on your temporal mantle?
Some monsters can still do small damage through temporal. I know Zinogre specifically has a little tail slap that completely ignores it. Might as well mitigate as much dmg as you can, when you can.
Im lazy and there are moves that will attack through the mantle
Nergy can do his paw attack that can take off a good chunk of your HP easily - even with your temporal mantle on :(
I've seen clips of people getting oneshot from full health through temporal by tempered monsters. Kirin's horn pokes are the ones that get me the most 😂

The lion has a very slightly higher attack after all the mods.
The Narga will get 1 attack mod and also the 5% total damage increase from non elemental so ignore the other replys to your comment.
On a pierce ammo, that's probably 1-3 per shot, if that

Enoshima Junko 5 True Raw on base raw for each augment. The 4 attack augment give 10. Thats insane boost since every other buffer will stack on base raw.
The thing is, the option for upgrade is there and attack is the only option, so why not.
The damage buff is meh, on a piece gun, probably the least effect noticeable damage increases in terms of weapons but as I say, if it's there and you already have the one affinity mod then why not take it.
I still prefer Narga pierce and my palico uses paralysis on his weapon that extra option means nothing to me

how is hbg pierce compared to rapid lbg pierce (i hate hbg dodge roll and 1 shield doesnt help enough on HBG)
Try evade extender lv. 3 on HBG its a lot better and I don't even bother with shield
from mobility standpoint theyre different yes. You also have evade reload for LBG. i run guard 5 and 2-3 shield on a pierce HBG build, because i like tanking shit when mons decide to close distance between mean. I literally only roll when i am fire or blast blighted because of the long sheathe time.
@@stevoyah Ya I have been using evade extender for so long if I don't have lv. 2 at least I feel so slow. And when I use shield I just put 3 shield mods and guard up and can block anything I'm sure 5 guard would help with knock back but I never felt like I need it with full health I can take Shara's two handed blast and still have a quarter health
All blos wings are naturally soft and its thier weakest spot. :)
