Yea. You're exactly right. It's a Cummings truck. If you're going to nit pick like every other person posting here, at least nit pick cummins right. It was probably KJ Jones editing it and screwing it up like whatever else he touches.
I said it last year and I'll say it again this year. We know these trucks can pull a lot of weight. If you want to give them something hard to back up, put a wave runner and trailer back there!
and nobody noticed that at 8:45 was a DODGE RAM and the smart dude who edited the video through a Chevrolet Silverado in there a 8:48 seconds then back to the DODGE RAM. come on Motor Trend. Your a big company to have people slipping #motortrendchannel
Twisted.RR same as yesterday in the Dino showed a dodge instead of a Ford I think they do that every year because it was like that last year in the Dino too
If you have a diesel and roll coal: We're not looking because we're interested... We're looking because we think your truck is on fire. ... So, they attempt performance, but have what is probably an in-considerably rich tune. And/or just snapping whatever injectors could be found at higher flow rate. The hicks love the attention.. Like they were lacking in the area....
MrcabooseVG large turbines in the turbo require more air, added fuel makes heat, heat expands air. That said heat is needed to light large turbos. So they add large amounts of fuel. Also with large injectors it's hard to dial out every single bit of smoke, there is a point where with tuning you can't remove any more fueling without killing throttle response. There is a lot more variables too but I'll leave that alone
also these trucks are at elevation, so there is less oxygen going into the trucks making them run richer which would cause even more smoke than if they were at sea level.
Would really like to see better/more concise editing for these videos. In both this video, the previous dyno video, and all of last year's videos there are editing errors that show incorrect trucks which I think takes away from the video as a whole but regardless I enjoy the competition and will continue to watch.
How the hell do these trucks pass a smog test? I know for a fact that any vehicle that blows smoke that is visible for more than 3 seconds automatically fails. So how?
MY 2008 e220 CDI mercedes can tow that much weight. It would just burn out the stock transmission. You don't really need to have a 4 ton 6 liter truck with 3 turbos to tow something heavy... This test seems like a bit of a gimmick, less about the actual diesel truck and more about just being able to maneuver a course with a trailer.
ApeWatchingTV This test is a good test of low RPM torque and driver skill. Its a good leveller since it stops someone who has thrown silly money at a truck just dominating the competition without using any driving skill.
Some people use them as work trucks to tow huge trailers, but i feel most of these built as basically a muscle car... Just for fun. Many people would ask the same the purpose of a blown big block 55 chevy... because its awesome and its my money...
I'm wondering why the big turbo or compound turbo guys don't 4wd low with the front hubs unlocked for more slow speed pickup when the turbo(s) won't spool. Not allowed?
I thought these were street legal trucks. no mirrors, turbos replaced the headlight and exhaust thru the hood. That's all illegal in canada. where is this taking place for those to be legal?
Did anyone notices how they messed up on the editing at 8:53. It's was a dodge at first then magically turned into a Chevy when turning, then magically turned back into a dodge.
Whoever keeps getting the job of editing these videos needs to be reevaluated, it's almost as bad as last year when it comes to showing the wrong truck at the wrong time.
Can someone explain to me how these trucks pass stringent emission regs or is it because they're classed as agri/business vehicles? If that's the case wouldn't the mods on them make them illegal?
That trailer and bobcat DOES NOT weigh 11,000 pounds......... That is 5 tonnes, The bobcat MIGHT be 3 tonne but looks smaller than that, no way in hell that little trailer weighs 2+ tonne.
***** How can you say that when you see that smoke ? And you should seek more info about that :) Diesel consumes less than petrol, but emits much more dangerous fumes...
Can someone explain why they "burn coal"? I mean if the black smoke is out, doesn't it mean they're running rich i.e. burning too much diesel than they need to? How does that help their fuel economy and not looking like an idiot? I love those trucks, but I don't get the running coal thing. Please explain! thx
Pretty pathetic when these guys with their gigantic diesel trucks don't even know how to reverse with a trailer hitched up. Go drive a chevette if you're not going to haul trailers or do any work with your truck. Buying a truck and not using it for work or towing is like buying a Veyron and then only using it to putt around a parking lot.
pretty pathetic when these guys with mustangs constantly plow over crowds of spectators. go ride a bike if you are not going to run people over. buying a mustang and not hitting people is like buying a Ferrari and only using it to drive to the market.
No truck has a center diff , it would work well as permanent 4x4. They engage front axle locking the front driveshaft to the rear. But whatever the spin they got better traction in 4wd.
G55STEYR My Mitsubishi L200 2.5TD has selectable 4WD with lockable centre Diff, The option to lock diff also engages low range. Friends Nissan Navara has the same system, although Im not sure if his has low range. Might be different in American trucks.
8:43 Dodge. 8:48 Chevy. that was a quick swap lol
lol i was just gonna say something hahaha
i saw that too!
I guess they misplaced that part of the footage, great editors xD
so funny
yea I was like wtf just happend lol
When ray was on the course, Nathan's Duramax was shown for a bit. The same thing happened in the dyno video. I can't believe the editors missed that.
Obviously the editors aren't car people. They see white truck with chrome rims and it's good enough for them.
interesting how at 8:48 it magically turns into a chevy
I thought I was seeing thinks lol
i think the editors need to learn about trucks and cars a bit more.
lmao i re watched that part like 5 times because i thought i was seeing things
same lol
I must be getting old these diesel power challenges seem to come around quicker and quicker
That red 2005 F-350 looks so sick!
did anyone else notice that they edited this wrong. one part started with a Cummings and then it showed a duramax
Yeah. I first noticed that on the dyno and then the trailer contest
Kenneth Stephens yeah it seems weird that they continually missed it with that white Cummins
seems a big company like TEN could afford better editors
PhalanxCarlos dodge Chevy dodge lol
Yea. You're exactly right. It's a Cummings truck. If you're going to nit pick like every other person posting here, at least nit pick cummins right. It was probably KJ Jones editing it and screwing it up like whatever else he touches.

Twisted.RR same as yesterday in the Dino showed a dodge instead of a Ford
I think they do that every year because it was like that last year in the Dino too
Twisted.RR I know that crossed me up far a sec
Someone did not edit this very well. 845 is dodge. 850 becomes Chevy then back to Dodge
Hingle McCringleberry yeah i saw that
they are in denver....probably all high...
You're right, nice catch.
If you have a diesel and roll coal:
We're not looking because we're interested...
We're looking because we think your truck is on fire.
... So, they attempt performance, but have what is probably an in-considerably rich tune. And/or just snapping whatever injectors could be found at higher flow rate.
The hicks love the attention.. Like they were lacking in the area....
"This is one of the most fun events of the competition"..............can't wait to see the parallel parking event.
And then they ask themselves why everyone thinks they are stupid af.
Am I the only one that thought it was a little ridiculous how much they were blown away by a guy backing a trailer looking over his shoulder?
i dont think they were "blown away" as much as impressed at his competitiveness having a disadvantage.
Tiny tires and wheels on jacked up diesels are just the icing on the cake here
8:44 The cummins magically transformed into the Chevy LBZ for a split second
I love this series, but y'all really need to work on getting all of the segments having the same truck in all of the different angles.
love this challenge.. i watch it every year... keep up the good work!!
great show! Thanks guys.
if you dont know how to backup a trailer... and you own a truck........ lol
but most of them did very much know how to back up their trailers, and did so very quickly.
Stacy.. I remember my first time towing a trailer. Jesus.
I drive a 1500 dodge and a 20' trailer all day professionally, I'd love to show up just for this challenge haha
8:29 shows chevy not the dodge
flattopman 45 I saw that to stupid editors
flattopman 45 same as yesterday they showed a dodge when it should of been a ford
flattopman 45 when dodge spins tired they turn in to Chevys
Good thing it did not flip.. or it would be a Jeep.
Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed
How is it the guy who has no mirrors backs up his truck better than everyone else who has mirrors
Is the diesel power challenge only for trucks? I really want to see Orion from haggard garage in this with the 7.3 van
I wanna watch some drag racing!!!
That. Was. Awesome.
I love your video
Why do American diesels smoke so much? Is that done on purpose?
more fuel for bigger power, some fuel come out from exhaust because its not been burned, thats called rollin coal
They don't smoke like that stock
These trucks are doing this on purpose. It's illegal to roll coal on public roads.
also these trucks are at elevation, so there is less oxygen going into the trucks making them run richer which would cause even more smoke than if they were at sea level.
So much coal in the air. Banks would be salty about the inefficient use of fuel.
7:58 that dude had some nice back up skills...I mean the guy standing behind the trailer hahaha
at 8:49 continuity error. Starts with the white Cummins, then cuts to the white Duramax, then back to the Cummins.
Would really like to see better/more concise editing for these videos. In both this video, the previous dyno video, and all of last year's videos there are editing errors that show incorrect trucks which I think takes away from the video as a whole but regardless I enjoy the competition and will continue to watch.
get it#1!!!
Why is this not on MT On Demand yet?
Robert Keeton why does it need to be? It's totally free on RUclips
+Ethan Shrago I think he means more then trendkill should be on mtod. if your paying for a premium service you should get more good content
It is under events (trucks)
Damn that Cummins would've smoked everybody if it wasn't for those couple penaltys
I want stock Dodge, Chevy, Ford, and Nissan diesel truck challenge on all power options. Battle.
Man that chick was freaking hot. She can back a 10k lbs trailer perfectly.
How the hell do these trucks pass a smog test? I know for a fact that any vehicle that blows smoke that is visible for more than 3 seconds automatically fails. So how?
trucks are built in states without smog or emissions testing
Custom built trucks made for specific tasks
I want a truck that can magically change from a Dodge to a Chevy, too!
Isn't this more of a challenge mechanically for the transmission and clutch of the vehicle rather than its power/engine?
It's a challenge for the truck
MY 2008 e220 CDI mercedes can tow that much weight. It would just burn out the stock transmission. You don't really need to have a 4 ton 6 liter truck with 3 turbos to tow something heavy...
This test seems like a bit of a gimmick, less about the actual diesel truck and more about just being able to maneuver a course with a trailer.
ApeWatchingTV This test is a good test of low RPM torque and driver skill. Its a good leveller since it stops someone who has thrown silly money at a truck just dominating the competition without using any driving skill.
what's the purpose of these trucks? to tow planets?
I use a 94 F350 to tow a 100hp White tractor 5 miles to the field when I need to bush hog or plow. Load is like 12000lbs.
Some people use them as work trucks to tow huge trailers, but i feel most of these built as basically a muscle car... Just for fun. Many people would ask the same the purpose of a blown big block 55 chevy... because its awesome and its my money...
It's like asking why cars have more power then they need to move forward.
Dont hate.
none of these trucks would be good at towing. your fucking shot
Didn't think so. They're blowing up just on the dyno
I'm sorry, but combined weight of 20,000lbs and you can't get the turbos to light?!
I can't ever watch diesel powered events because the trucks just look moronic when they smoke like that. Such an inefficient way of creating power.
except they make a bunch of power,
joelum123 you realize diesel motors are more efficient than gas motors right
Inefficiently though, that's the point I'm trying to make.
I have never seen a high horspower diesel not make black smoke.
I don't know what your argument is here haha
My 2001 Ford F-350 7.3 pulled my 10,000+ trailer with my forklift with ease...
thank you audi andorre !club kompressor
DId anyone else see the Cummins turn into a chevy then back to a cummins. It was sweet
Yeah for a second with that bad edit mess up I thought it was a Cummins with a chevy front end 😂
That green duramax sounds like a 7.3 powerstroke
some of these guy look like they have never used the truck as a truck, they are just slaped on a turbo and big bling rims
To bad Devon Miller isn't here to show them how it's done. lol
@8:50 you guys used the wrong footage. It's the silver Dodge RAM going on the course but you've used a Silverado footage.
Pouring back smoke out of the tail pipe just shows that you are wasting power with a bad tune
I'm wondering why the big turbo or compound turbo guys don't 4wd low with the front hubs unlocked for more slow speed pickup when the turbo(s) won't spool. Not allowed?
You guys messed up at the 8:49 mark...its a dodge run but at this point its showing a chevy
Yes it'd back
Anyone else notice that at 8:43 it shows the cummins pulling but when the camera changes it's the white duramax?
oh Look truck drivers that doesnt know how to drive them or park them. First time I see that.
Except most of them didnt even hit a cone LOL!!!!! maybe you need to rewatch, one guy did it without any mirrors LOL!
lol
I don't trust mirrors that well, i won' event change lanes without looking over my shoulder.
I thought these were street legal trucks. no mirrors, turbos replaced the headlight and exhaust thru the hood. That's all illegal in canada. where is this taking place for those to be legal?
xlthumper Colorado. The hood exhaust I'm almost positive is illegal along with no mirrors
America
Truck power!
This is about 4 miles from my house, but it's not so green anymore.
I could back a trailer better than dude in white Chevy better than that when i was 12
Zerek P
They weren't doing it in an open area with no time limit like you...
Since these are all about road trucks, what state is it legal to have no mirrors
Where is the ignition episode?
can any one of these city slickers back up a trailer
this is why guys when turbos spool the truck Springs up and goes and you got such speed and power until u let off and here the turbos bark
Did anyone notices how they messed up on the editing at 8:53. It's was a dodge at first then magically turned into a Chevy when turning, then magically turned back into a dodge.
Why interview all the driver's but the girl that went first ?
Whoever keeps getting the job of editing these videos needs to be reevaluated, it's almost as bad as last year when it comes to showing the wrong truck at the wrong time.
try doing this with a Nissan or Toyota
We're just ignoring the lady in the beginning?
8:45-8:50 I see what you did there, Motor Trend. Lol
That chevy with 4 mins lol
What the hell happen with the Cummins and the tiny chevy at 8:42 ish.
Can someone explain to me how these trucks pass stringent emission regs or is it because they're classed as agri/business vehicles? If that's the case wouldn't the mods on them make them illegal?
It is illegal in most places, but around where I live they never actually test emissions
there are no emissions regs or tests here in kansas, I imagine there are quite a few more states that dont have them either.
Cool thanks for the replies!
so that must be an 07 classic...
I can't reverse a trailer by mirrors, I have to turn my head.
10,000 lbs load, on 2 axels that aren't even squatting, more like 5,000 lbs
Kimberly Prater looks like a bobcat t630 which weighs 9015 lbs plus the bucket for another 5-600 lbs so not far off.
*trees die everywhere* 😂😉👍
Stacey making that Chevy look bad
big diesel trucks are cool, but the coal the're blowing out is just stupid. nuts that some of them are making 1000 hp.
why stacks? i like the smoke out the guy in the bmw convertible
That trailer and bobcat DOES NOT weigh 11,000 pounds......... That is 5 tonnes, The bobcat MIGHT be 3 tonne but looks smaller than that, no way in hell that little trailer weighs 2+ tonne.
what bout that new nissan titan diesel?
that truck is normal?
You dare talking about fuel economy with that giant toxic smoke...
Most Diesels get better MPG then cars 1/2 the weight.
ramairgto72 Ecology is not all about MPG...
***** How can you say that when you see that smoke ? And you should seek more info about that :) Diesel consumes less than petrol, but emits much more dangerous fumes...
I was thinking about that.. All that black smoke is just inefficiency in combustion and wasted power getting thrown out the exhaust...
***** Well all scientist that are taking care of environnement doesnt seem to agree with you... But i guess there is no use to argue much more x)
I don't need any stinking mirrors!
What a pointless "competition".
What a pointless "comment"
InternetDude it's about having fun. Period
How is it pointless? It's about skill of the driver and capabilities of the truck
In that sense any motorsport is pointless, or any sport at all for that matter
Can someone explain why they "burn coal"? I mean if the black smoke is out, doesn't it mean they're running rich i.e. burning too much diesel than they need to? How does that help their fuel economy and not looking like an idiot? I love those trucks, but I don't get the running coal thing. Please explain! thx
Excess fuel cools the cylinders using evaporative cooling, so that the Aluminum engine parts don't melt.
Oooohhhh. Thanks!
That's true for gasoline, not diesel (or at least not nearly as big of an effect) @The Metal Butcher
They "roal coal" because you can squeeze a lot of extra power out of running rich on diesel engines.
The Metal Butcher Not true. These are diesels not gas.
Someones upset..
pretty pathetic when these guys with mustangs constantly plow over crowds of spectators. go ride a bike if you are not going to run people over. buying a mustang and not hitting people is like buying a Ferrari and only using it to drive to the market.
I agree 100% hahaha
But the whole point of this event is their skill with trailers...? What are you actually talking about
Ford people knows how to drive
They messed up editing when the white ram started a chevy popped in for a second
What good is a diesel that can't spool the turbo at low rpm's??
The small penis syndrome blinds them from the common concept of basic diesel performance.
They are set up to race. Not to pull a trailer around a parking lot.
History Rambler Mark What everyone is forgetting is the altitude. It's hard to spool a big or multiple turbos on thin air.
"Rolling coal" does NOT make more power, did they miss the memo?
Seems they are doing the trailer towing in High Range. Why don't they use Low Range ?
Not sure about here but on my truck engaging low range also engages the centre diff lock, which is bad news for maneuvering on hard ground.
I did use low range, and took out the front driveshaft but didn't really help at all
Center diff with 2wd option is only on Mitsubishi and first 4-Matic Benz'es , but the trucks no. Navara also
check out the Dodge on minute 8.49 lmfao
Ahah diesel power 🏁
47th!
8:48 damn that ram sure looks like a silverado from that angle. problem with editing there boys??
voice recorded with a toaster
