This is 100% the case for any content creator trying to earn an income from content creation. As a 49 year old woman gamer, I totally feel that comment about how there’s not as many “my age” people making content. Like I was beta testing games in the 00’s. Now I’m far more casual and just want to be cozy and casual than anything else… my mum is still heavy in to her EverQuest gaming and there’s definitely no content creators her age. It’s crazy how many of us gamers are not just 20-something! HAHA :)

You could start talking about you experience as tester and some stories from your career. For me personally, it would be super interesting! Even more than some playthroughs
First time seeing you, I’m a lot younger but relate to pretty much EVERYTHING you’re saying, trying to follow a creative passion is definitely SOO difficult and finding others looking to do the same thing is absolutely pivotal to avoiding burnout
Well said! Growth takes so much patience because what we really want is to blow up over night and have all our videos do hugely well. Reality is that's not the case. You just have to keep going if it's what you really want.
My honest thoughts about this video is that I am glad that hard work gives result and you never gave up. On the other hand, your story turned into a sales pitch with sales techniques like relatable story, sharing something for free (lessons you learned) but the biggest of them all can be found in the description box under a paywall. Which is understandable but it gives slight sour taste after your great story. Anyway, thought it was important to share that. Hope that wasn't the strategy behind the video. Regardless, good luck in 2025 for further growth!
to be fair.. if someone worked for a long time and studied things TO be able to do them then they are conpletely justified in asking to be paid for their expertise.. otherwise they are helping YOU get potential income and success but THEY need to pay their bills, even the electricity to run the computer this was filmed on needs to be paid for do YOU work for no money??? using your skills? would you be happy to spend time doing your job for no income??? or does everything get paid for for you by someone else??
This is why I love the power of gaming. It creates so many opportunities for everyone. It could be working, donating to charity, or just playing with your friends. It really can change lives in a positive way. Despite the media and older generations typically view gaming as a bad thing.
I wish more people are open minded about overall gaming. Even in where I live not much people are educated enough about this topic. Limiting your opportunities.
I’m 34 and will be 35 in January and have always wanted to start content creation with gaming or anything I’m interested in. I always over think and keep consuming content instead of just starting. Not really sure how to start but I have decided to start learning basic video editing. New subscriber!
I say go for it. I’m turning 33 in January and I started uploading gaming content last November without any video editing experience or social media presence. At the moment I’m just focusing on my favorite game, Starfield, and I’m happy to say I hit my goal of landing 2k subs within one year of uploading. I niched down really hard to make this happen but I’ve certainly backed myself into a corner, so finding a balance is key. For me, this is really just a hobby and so the fact that my videos are even making money is just all a bonus.
@@High_Key that’s incredible progress. I’ve been posting consistently for about half a year and hit 50 subs. How often do you upload and do you focus on long form or shorts?
I know what you mean feeling that you're stuck in a dead end job and feeling like you have so much creativity to share and so much more you would rather be doing. I'm just starting up my channel again as a hobby at the moment and not so focused on the monetisation, but it's interesting to hear your thoughts and your wisdom so thank you for sharing :) glad you popped up in my recommended!

I just saw this on my fyp. Been working full time at a big ad agency and I got laid off last year October 2023. It's been one year of freelancing kinda like you in your mid to late 30s, I'd like to pivot and switch. Instead of creating video ads for brands I feel like its time I made videos for myself. Love the authenticity you have here sharing. Thank you for inspiring!
@zakross guy I worked with made a RUclips channel for his kid (he was a social media manager anyway) and he started making 1k a month around 2 months in, terrible videos (in his own words, but he wasn't lying, very bad editing, brain rot for kids pretty much) about 6 months later 20 of us were made redundant, still keep in touch and he's making around 2k per month at the minute, he has another job now but it just shows how much of a lifesaver it can be, he just got a mortgage a month before he was laid off. God knows where he'd be know without RUclips
Thank you so much for this video. I started back in 2020 too and after a year, got burned out and did not diversify. I've been wanting to yet hesitant to try again. Whelp I guess its time. Your story and authenticity is inspiring. Thank you so much for these tools.
Thank you for this. I’ve recently moved to the country and have been unable to maintain full time work due to issue from a couple of strokes I had a few years ago and have been trying to get my channel off the ground as it sometimes feels like it’s all I can do. Advice like this helps a lot.
Man, did I find this video at the right time! Here I was, freshly 30 years old, wondering if my old one foot in the grave ass missed the boat on making gaming content, something I've dreamed of doing since high school but never took the dive for various reasons. Guess this is my sign to start!
Being a content creator has always been my dream as a child. My childhood was not very pleasant, and RUclips was my way to escape reality. My goal is to be able to provide the same escape to others, as long as I can make their day a little better then I consider myself successful.
I'm not a gamer, but what I related to the most was starting over in your 30s. I just turned 34 and I'm in a really bad place right now. But your story gives me hope, gives me courage to keep doing the things I'm doing right now. Thanks for sharing this! 😘😘❤❤
Thank you for posting this! I really needed this pep talk. Been in the same boat as when you started (working a job I see myself stuck in forever/not being able to grow my content/living paycheck to paycheck), and I see this year as an opportunity to start building. Going to share this video with a few friends who are also looking to start doing this as they've been hesitant to even try. Thank you again and have an awesome 2025!
Congratulations Wendy!!! I wanna be just like that! i'm 50, had been a pc gamer all my life, and had years in admin and customer service industry. I wanna be a youtuber and gamer like you.

I'm late here but I wanted to say that this video felt like a hug and a voice that I needed to hear. I'm 34 and have been on burnout and disability medical leave for the last two years... My employer is refusing to accommodate me and I've been looking into what in the world I could do as a disabled person who loves gaming and art. I've had some people suggest to me that I'd be good at streaming on twitch but I've honestly been so afraid and thinking I was too old. I really needed this video. It helped so much. Thank you so so much 💛 I'm so glad the algorithm brought me to you

Hi Wendy- fellow Brit creator here, and congratulations on all you’ve achieved. I’m not a streamer but your journey really resonated with me and my own journey as a tech reviewer. All of these lessons and steps would work well for most creators in any niche trying to build a following. It’s amazing how many skills you have to build on the way to achieving this kind of income- most people have no idea.
I appreciate your kindness 🙏🏼 It's true, I think so many believe it's mostly down to luck but we have to create our own through hard work and determination 🙂
I'm so glad I found this video. I'm going to be 30 next year and I feel so stuck in my life right now. I've been thinking about starting a youtube/twitch channel for several years at this point and never have because I'm so nervous and self conscious... Listening to your story is inspiring and gives me hope that I can do the same! 💙
tips for "creating a community" part of this video : play mmo with community system. a guild. create one as a leader. commit on it. take care of your members. name it with your brands or whatever a name you see fit. create a logo. make a discord server for members to converse off-game. from this kind of community you can get easier time finding business opportunity as a freelancer or something like that because people trust you and your business is based on trust. the last advice is optional but manage offline meet up in a restaurant or cafe. also giveaway that benefit the community like designing a jersey or hoodie jacket. i'm so grateful as a gamer that i can experience something like that.
I've been trying to do the same but with just you tube balancing work and you tube is tough but I've just had fun with it so far and hope to keep it fun and keep learning! Thanks for the motivation to keep going!
Great video!! I just want to point out that it also takes a fair amount of luck to really pop off. Also you become you're own boss, not everyone can handle that. Glad you were able to make it work. Cheers
I believe you make your own luck. But you're right about it being a business. You need a certain amount of skills to be self-employed. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for sharing and showing what's possible! The journey in the beginning feels like a really huge mountain to scale while seeing no progress but your words made me reconsider what I had done and think of returning to
Thank you for posting this video! A lot of really great advice for new content creators! I’ve been focusing on being more consistent and learning more about video editing!
This is a great video slow and steady wins the race not to panic is the key, I have a lot of videos on football games with a massive following of 168 people , so I m very new . Best wishes on your videos keep them coming.
The key is to ADD VALUE to others. It’s pretty much as simple as that. If you can do that, you’ll start growing a following and making some money. Too many kids think streaming and content creation is just playing video games all day. Even in your example, yes you were playing video games, but you were also working by creating the blog website, which requires time and effort beyond just playing a game. Congrats on your success! Hope to see you continue your journey for many years to come! 😊
This is a good video and a realistic example of streaming. Well done on all of your success. I am an older streamer than you and to say when I started I was lost is a massive understatement. I did not even know what a stream key code was . Good video.

I just literally started my own youtube and twitch playing rogue decks in Pokémon TCG Live on mobile. I hope i can get to your point someday. Congrats!
This video definitely resonates with me as a millennial content creator. You can definitely feel aged out of an activity that your generation brought to the forefront, gaming. I mainly started just to meet more like minded/mature gamers. My growth has been beyond slow, but to your point, it's not a priority for me either. I do it for fun. All the best to you in your future endeavors and congrats on your accomplishments.
I've been sliding back the video bacause I wanted to hear every word you said. Thanks a lot for sharing your journey! You're inspired me to learn digital marketing and use it with gaming.
Fair play. Its all our dreams those of us who grew up at the start of computers and gaming to make it our dream jobs. Thanks for the video it was very helpful.
Very cool video. What you said applies to a lot of businesses today. I have a fitness business and what you was talking about works so well too. I watched because I'm a huge gamer too ha

You could start talking about you experience as tester and some stories from your career. For me personally, it would be super interesting! Even more than some playthroughs
@@LadyOzma You're mom should start an EverQuest channel, haha.
"I was ashamed to be in my late thirties and unable to pay my bills" - that cut deeper than you know. Thanks for this video!
@@SnowyBlizzard I totally need to do this! Make some friends nearby too 🤞🏻
My honest thoughts about this video is that I am glad that hard work gives result and you never gave up.
Regardless, good luck in 2025 for further growth!
to be fair.. if someone worked for a long time and studied things TO be able to do them then they are conpletely justified in asking to be paid for their expertise.. otherwise they are helping YOU get potential income and success but THEY need to pay their bills, even the electricity to run the computer this was filmed on needs to be paid for
do YOU work for no money??? using your skills? would you be happy to spend time doing your job for no income??? or does everything get paid for for you by someone else??
I am 34 to😊 keep going and start your channel, I will gladly support you❤
Nice pfp homie
I'm around the same age, I been started uploading content as well. I need to dive into more editing and stuffs like that as well
@@High_Key that’s incredible progress.
Thank you so much I’m 30 yo and I feel soooo hopeless about life, I feel like I’ll always be stuck in minimum-wage jobs with no freedom. Your video has inspired me, and I loved how honest you were. This year, I’ll push myself to try again, but as you said, only after learning skills that help me treat it like a business. Thank you so much for this.
Graphic designer here and Started my gaming channel this December 2024. your insights are on point, i started with brand identity but havent pushed it further yet because i wanted to upload videos first before making a brand but i guess the brand identity is really a big factor as well as the blog. thank u so much for this guide, just what i needed!
Thanks!
That's so kind of you! Thank you so much 🥹
I just wanted to write that I'm happy for you making this video, and I'm even happier to hear the conclusion of your story. Also the curls are great!
I did my first livestream on youtube yesterday, only had 2 watching but it felt great to be honest, started my channel 3 ish weeks ago and every little win is an absolute win for me.. thank you for this video though, very uplifting!! ❤
Very insightful and I loved the way you structured the video!
I appreciate the feedback 🙏🏼
i remember sometime last year i came across your video you made about making a decision to embarking on your journey and to build a youtube business around gaming and what are your motivations. then somehow i never cam across your videos until this one. i am happy to see how far you came and you made it! congratulations!
This makes me so happy! It's interesting to hear what RUclips chooses to push. Thank you for watching!
Glad the algorithm lead me to you! These “how to” videos seem to do really well! I keep seeing them in my feed. I guess a lot of people who watch RUclips must search for tips on being a creator. Congrats on your success and I’m looking forward to your channel! Cozy games are really fun and i think it’s so great that women over the age of 30 are getting involved in this space. You seriously look so young though like your early 20s haha. Thanks for this video. I’m looking forward to check out the resources you provided. Gives me a lot to think about. Perhaps I should just give it a shot. I need to learn more about Twitch as that one is totally Greek to me.
Im a 37 year old danish dad struggling as a content creator. My viewers loves me but when you have two kids and a full-time job aswell it is HARD.
I LOVED watching this video. Gave me a lot of hope.
Also subbed - you really sound and look like a nice person. Keep up the good work!
Cheers from Morten, Denmark.
As we get older we seem to have less and less time in the day with all our responsibilities. Try to give yourself the gift of 1hr in the evening or morning to spend on your passions. Make it a new routine for yourself in 2025 ☺️
@@hercozygaming I will try that. Thank you :)
@@hercozygamingthank you as well.❤
@@hercozygaming Which platform from your experience would you recommend from someone who is also 40+ with a kid and limited time. RUclips, Twitch?
i am so happy for you Wendy! this is such lovely news
congratulations 🎉
thank you for sharing your experience and insights, this is all very encouraging ❤
Thank YOU for watching 🙂
This is one real video. Super encouraging, too! Thanks for sharing.
I'm a beginner in my 40s as well. Thank you for the cozy boost of inspiration! I'll definitely be following your journey.
Thank you for this. It was really helpful. I have a small gaming channel so these tips are great.
This video is gold! Thank you for sharing, and congratulations on all your success 🎉
Thank you for your kindness 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for this video. I started back in 2020 too and after a year, got burned out and did not diversify. I've been wanting to yet hesitant to try again.
Whelp I guess its time.
Your story and authenticity is inspiring. Thank you so much for these tools.
Just stumbled onto your video. Thanks for an insights. My wife is trying to make a streamer career, I'm definately gonna show this to her!
This is so informative! I really appreciate hearing it laid out based on your experience, and it gets me fired up to create and grow my business!
Thank you for this. I’ve recently moved to the country and have been unable to maintain full time work due to issue from a couple of strokes I had a few years ago and have been trying to get my channel off the ground as it sometimes feels like it’s all I can do. Advice like this helps a lot.
Congrats on the house milestone! Fantastic story! Thank you for sharing
Thank you too!
Man, did I find this video at the right time! Here I was, freshly 30 years old, wondering if my old one foot in the grave ass missed the boat on making gaming content, something I've dreamed of doing since high school but never took the dive for various reasons. Guess this is my sign to start!
Everyone always feels like they are "too old". But there is no age limit on making your dreams a reality. Never give up! 🙂
It is!! Please start and keep going 🎉🎉🎉 I would love to support you, as a lot of other people, for sure.
Also… 30 is NOT old!
Thank you for sharing your journey and resources for others!
what a great story, thank you for sharing.
I hope one day I can save up enough to buy a house.
I am Happy you succeeded in what you were aiming for, and thank you for sharing your story and tips with us.
Great video! Love how straightforward and to the point you were. Just subscribed! 😊
Being a content creator has always been my dream as a child. My childhood was not very pleasant, and RUclips was my way to escape reality. My goal is to be able to provide the same escape to others, as long as I can make their day a little better then I consider myself successful.
Liked and subbed, also getting started in my 40's. Thank you
I wish you all the best 😃

Thank you for posting this! I really needed this pep talk. Been in the same boat as when you started (working a job I see myself stuck in forever/not being able to grow my content/living paycheck to paycheck), and I see this year as an opportunity to start building. Going to share this video with a few friends who are also looking to start doing this as they've been hesitant to even try. Thank you again and have an awesome 2025!
I wish you all the best for 2025 and beyond. Keep going my friend 🙂

Thank you so so much 💛 I'm so glad the algorithm brought me to you
Like and subbed! Fellow Millennial who is has just taken the plunge into content creation, streaming etc and what you said I resonate with so much as I’m just turning 39. I’ve saved this video to my playlist so I can check out more content and the digital marketing info. Thank you so much!
This was awesome! Thank you
Thank you. This is very encouraging. I have a gaming channel and a full time job and I am struggling. This video is all I needed for keep going
I would love to learn social media marketing from you! And your journey is inspiring!
Super authentic and informative video. Cheers on your success!
Start now! Growing on any platform can take time. You've got this!
tips for "creating a community" part of this video : play mmo with community system. a guild. create one as a leader. commit on it. take care of your members. name it with your brands or whatever a name you see fit. create a logo. make a discord server for members to converse off-game. from this kind of community you can get easier time finding business opportunity as a freelancer or something like that because people trust you and your business is based on trust. the last advice is optional but manage offline meet up in a restaurant or cafe. also giveaway that benefit the community like designing a jersey or hoodie jacket. i'm so grateful as a gamer that i can experience something like that.
This doesn’t only apply to video games as I can see how this can translate to how anything you do in life. Consistency is key!
I've been trying to do the same but with just you tube balancing work and you tube is tough but I've just had fun with it so far and hope to keep it fun and keep learning! Thanks for the motivation to keep going!
Starting out myself at around the same age as you. Very inspirational and I am happy for you! Thanks for sharing.
Bless your success!!
Thank you for sharing your story! This really inspiring and has given me some ideas, or at got me thinking about some things differently!
i wish you best of luck in all your projects and thanks for your experience it's very motivational
You get it! 🫶🏼
This is a good video and a realistic example of streaming. Well done on all of your success. I am an older streamer than you and to say when I started I was lost is a massive understatement. I did not even know what a stream key code was . Good video.
You mentioned being 36 when you got into twitch streaming and my jaw dropped as a) thats my age now, and b) girl you look 23! I dont know how you did but you look wise but young and youre glowing 😊. Im a guy looking at doing coaching online but had consisered twitch gaming. Just worried about parasocials and stuff

Thank you for your kindness 🙏🏼 I agree with you that the tips I've shared can definitely be utilized across niches.
Maam I don't know who you are or where you're from, but I must say thank you so much for this guide. I'm starting a channel as well, for streaming games. At this point I am unable to afford the good camera stuff lol, but I will eventually acquire everything soon. I just wanna say thank you again for the boost in drive/inspiration. Have a great evening
