Thank you so much for this video! I really appreciate how you provided this info so straightforward and clear, I'm currently a junior in college, and trying to find info online or anywhere was so frustrating because it was either super vague or super confusing.
Thanks so much for all this info! You may have stressed me out a little more, but it's okay! You gave me a clear understanding of what I need to do-- something that google searches can't do! *face palm*
Congratulations on becoming a teacher! I obtained my bachelor's degree in June 2019 and then right away, I started working within the field of education as a program assistant; however, due to the pandemic I've been home for almost three months doing nothing, and now after watching your video I feel like is time to go back to school. Thanks for the video~
Aw congrats!! Yeah definitely put a damper on plans. Teaching isn’t the same right now, so much so I’ve even thought about going back for admin credential or counseling credential haha. Definitely the time to get ahead in online school!
Wow, it's so much more work than I thought. But I really think I want so go through this. Every time I think of my future it's in a classroom. I want to be the teacher people will remember and thank to themselves later on in life
@@SimpleLifeAlways81 thats not true at all, I remember and care for several of my teachers, same for many of my high school peers, shoot I remember teachers all the way back from 3rd grade.
I have a bunch of questions about your video if you don't mind. @4:45 You said you taught while taking the credential program. I guess you can do both at the same time if that is okay with your principal? You also mentioned deciding on which internship to take during the credential program, but this wouldn't make sense if you were already at a school. @9:17 The induction program is taken during your first two years of teaching right? Do you need to attend special "seminars" oustside your school, or are they just like assessments given by the principal and staff? Finally - sorry to hear about your history exam experience. I hate history too and will probably have to study hard for that one. Thank you for your video. I want to start teaching in a few months but can't afford to not be paid. Depending on how you respond, I might have a follow up questions as well. Thanks again!
Hi! Every district is different. Some can hire you as a teacher & then you have 1-2 years to START a credential program. I believe this is a PIP or STIP (not sure what the details on that are) Some districts require you to be already enrolled in a credential program, this should put you in the intern route. Throughout the induction program for 2 years of teaching, there are a few classes and/seminars you will take during this time. The only assessments are the RICA & TPAs I believe.
I don’t know if You done a video like this but I would love to hear more about the credential program process and how you got in or any tips on that! I am going to be applying soon and national university is on my list on programs to apply to! :)
@@TeachMeSomethingGood was there an essay portion to the application? How were the courses set up? Since it was online was it harder to manage time with work ? Did you feel like you learned a lot and felt the classes prepared you for your internship?
Nope, no essay. National is expensive but one thing it does well is that it’s very simple busy work. For me it’s the Time VS Money thing. I’ve heard other schools that were cheaper but the classes and hw were so long & you ended up spending more time on that. Nope. Giant waste of time in my opinion. Just a lot of flaming hoops to jump through to get a piece of paper saying you can teach now! Lol. Sorry if that’s not the answer you were looking for but for me, it really just seemed like a lot of busy work that didn’t teach me much or challenge me. But like I said, gotta do what ya gotta do.
Hi, thank you for sharing all this info! Im entering into a teacher credentialing program, with riverside county office of education. And i will have to intern for 2 yrs😢, and beforehand complete like 160 hrs of preservice work. I haven't taken any tests yet. Im gonna do teacher specialist aka sped. Kinda only bc i know a teacher that just retired, and she said all credentialed teachers got laid off but they didnt touch the sped teachers. Anyways, so i will have to take the cset before i start interning? And, i thought it was one or the other not both. Cset/ cbest. And do you know anything about special education teaching? Plus, im terrified/ nervous to intern, i have no previous experience, but you didnt either right?
Did you get into the interning when you started the credentialing program or was there a long waiting period before you were able to? I just started an online bachelors program in Arizona, I work in CA as a Para and they pushed this program because it's supposed to be easy and inexpensive, my counselor seems to think I'm going to be in a classroom within 6 months of finishing their program. I already had a lot of classes done so I have about a year and a half until I have my degree. They're helping me study for the CBEST and Cset etc and want me to take them while getting my Bachelors so hopefully it isn't too crazy. I just want to get in a room of my own! (Don't we all lol)
C R A Z Y. Why do teachers have to jump through so many hoops and spend so much money? When will we be treated like the professionals we are?! Sorry, I’ll get off my soap box now. Great informative video!
Hi! I love the details within this video, I just wanted to ask how many years total it took you from starting your bachelors to clearing your credential? I wanted to clarify that it was 2 years for prelim, 2 for clear credential, and then I believe you said your masters was 1 year unless it was combined with your prelim. That’s where I got confused. Thank you!
4 years for Bachelors. 2 years for credential and masters combined. Because it was 1.5 years for credential & 1/2 a year for added masters because some overlap. Then I had 2 years of induction. Which 1 year was during the program, I think it was an additional year after I got my credential when I was fully done with induction.
Hi. If you do internship vs student teaching, you just do the TPAs during your internship? Do you know how to go about finding an internship? During your internship, are you all alone in lesson planning or do you collaborate with other teachers teaching the same grade? Any help would be appreciated.
Yea you do the TPAs during your internship. I’m not sure how to find an internship, I was lucky so my district covered it... as far as lesson planning it depends on your district and mentor. Some schools work as a team while others are more individual
Hi Liz! I took the free practice test on Teacher Test Prep (website link is in my description) and looked up flash cards for CBEST vocabulary because I’m terrible at vocab.
Hey girl!! I didn’t take any special classes. Just graduated 🤷🏻♀️. I took college prep classes, nothing fancy. And went up to Algebra 2 in math. I wouldn’t trip about classes, that’s more dependent on what college you want to go to. & that doesn’t matter when getting your degree & credentials. In the teacher world they just want you to get it done. They don’t care where you got it.
@@usernamee709 My major was in Liberal Studies. I believe you can get your degree in just about anything though if you're wanting to teach older kids and do single subject. Well, I hoped I get an intern program similar to you. The traditional route requires money i.e. a lot of loans, mostly because the student teaching and classes make it very hard to work a job. In other words, not meant for me due to bills.
