My previous district that I started my career at is paid on a 12 month schedule, 2 checks per month. It was nice! I moved to a new state and obviously a new district, and now I will be paid once a month but my first check won't be until the end of September! Ah! My last check from my previous district is July 31st and then no new money until Sept. 25th. It's terrifying for me, but I have been sitting on all of my funds for months so I am hoping I will be okay!
It's sad that "doing okay" you're still stressed about bills and food and can't ever vacation. I'm a teacher in Oklahoma and the cost of living is much different, but my rent is also 40% of my income. Smh.
I have an Etsy shop where I sell bath products, and in NC we have adopted EDTPA so when I graduate I’ll be making the same as a 3-4 year teacher. Im still going to get my side hustle on though!
When do you recommend getting your masters? I'm in school right now to get my 4 year but I don't know if I should go straight into teaching OR get my masters and then go into teaching.
ASAP unless your employer will pay for it later. Getting it sooner increases your pay every year after you earn it. It’s also less tuition to get it sooner.
Do you reccomend being a social science teacher ? 70k with experience and a master's is nothing, you can earn 80k being a dental hygienist and that is a only a 2 year program.
North Carolina no longer pays their teachers for having higher degrees. So I have a master's degree and I get paid the same as a teacher who has a bachelor's degree. And I can't afford our union dues yet.
@@wall_to_wall that's a good thing, it means your earn based on your merit not seniority. Our society is founded on competition and works best under it. This is something students should learn early in life not closer to graduation. Look at asian schools which are highly competitive.
@@gdiaz8827 I left teaching because it’s a terrible career in the US. Underpaid, under appreciated and way over stretched. I didn’t work hard in my education and profession to be treated like dirt, so I left.
I wanted to point out that I said in my OG comment that I could t afford our dues but the org in NC is not technically a union so I did want to clarify that.
So interesting. You're so right about expertise. This matters too. A lot. In France, as a teacher, if you ever complain about your salary, you're compared to nurses for example and how hard and useful their job is... And that they should be paid more. It's true! But people don't see all the years we had to study just to be allowed to take the exam. Not even passing it! It's really cool that you are able to write courses and sell them online. Good luck with that!
Thank you so much! I think as educators we are very accustomed to just knowing how much education and training goes into our job that we don't think about the perspective of non-educators. They have all been to school, so it is something they think they understand... I'll let you know how the course writing goes!
I would love to discuss this topic on a zoom call with you if you are interested. I've considered moving to southern California but have some concerns.
New subscriber here. One of the things I struggled with when I was teaching was the general mindset of complaining (pay, support, etc.) around the lounge table at lunch. Ugh! I find your perspective refreshing, fun and entertaining :)
I’m so sad now because i really want to become a teacher but I’m the sole source of income for our family and i currently make just over 70k a year and half of my income goes just to my mortgage
Question, I've seen so many teachers say they get paid once a month. 😲 Why do school systems do that? I've always been with a school that pays twice a month. I would t imagine once a month.
LOVE this video!! My fiancée and I are both about to begin DT and then graduate from our El Ed program in IL. We have been to SoCal several times so we know that is the place for us! We hope to be out there in two to three years. Thanks again!
Hello! I would like to submit my requirements for preliminary credentials to ctc california but im in the Philippines and the website asks for SSN number. How can I finish my application with that? Thank u!
It seems to me that most districts don't provide as much of an incentive as they should to teachers in getting masters degrees. I'm in the Bay Area and random units taken here and there push you to the end of the pay scale. Masters degrees only earn you a $1,000 stipend each year. Not a real incentive to pursuing a masters degree. Unfortunately.
I have a question since you teach at a pubic school and your husband at charter school what school would you put your kids in or perfer prefer public or charter?
Let me get this straight. And not to be overly abusive. You say you are highly trained. Have a masters degree. But you don’t understand why teachers in private schools are paid more than public schools. Correct? College trained with masters degree and you don’t realize that public schools are just indoctrination centers? Public schools are not going to pay that much just to indoctrinate kids. All they have to do is alienate them, make them victims and give participation trophies (grades). Especially in California. Surely you’ve seen California rotting away morally? Cmon. Over educated? You shoulda seen this from the 10 grade in highschool. Im sorry you aren’t receiving proper pay but when indoctrination is all that’s expected from California public school board officials they dont need a master degree teacher to achieve that. Get out of the leftist centers. An associate degree, candy, shiny things and allowed truancy is gonna be all that the teacher is required to have knowledge of in CPS
Tips for teachers: Don't be single. Smh.
my dad told me this lol and i’m a kid 😭
Can I ask why? Lol
I am stuck single

Nice, informative chat. I love fixer uppers. Do you think you will have some videos on remodeling your home?
Tia Miles Thank you!! I’m not sure if I’ll do any remodeling videos- we do things very slowly around here so the videos would be few and far between 😂
Yay for teacher couples! But also Ouch! for the budget 😬
Also, ok so parallel lives, lol
Oh my gosh - I'm sitting right now trying to figure out some budgeting stuff... and by that I mean I am procrastinating by looking at RUclips...

So glad you were so able to participate in this collaboration!
Thank you so much for setting it up - I think it is a really important thing to talk about!
Thank you! I’m active duty in the military but about to go to school in hopes to be a teacher. I’m also a local San diegan 💗😊

The dental can also be 3-4 years. Since one has to do prerequisites. It also is very competitive.
I'm a SoCal teacher too! Still paying off loans but still living at home with my dad and family lol I can't afford a place in SoCal by myself! I wish!
I am way to young to be watching this video 😂
Tip: don’t live in California if your a teacher
Not just because of the salary
Why not?
We get paid a lot more than other states.
Don't live near the coast in California. Central Valley is affordable.

Opt out of the union and keep more of what u make
@@gdiaz8827 there are no teachers unions in NC.

Highly Highly trained to who's standard????You make waaaayyy too much to start off with...just be content with your over payment as it is..DAMN!!!

If teachers were paid more the retention would be better and more people would be interested in entering the profession.

Useful, concise info, and pretty too.

How difficult is it to find a teaching job in the San Diego area?
Vote for Kevin Paffrath for California Governor....

According to Chris Hogan and his book Everyday Millionaire, teachers are #3 on the list of millionaires in this country.
