Love this video! I was a substitute teacher last year, and this year I am a Paraprofessional. I work in the Autism unit for Kindergarten-Second grade. I love my job! I make about 24,000/year as a Para, but I also work at my church, and I am a freelance Graphic Designer and work from home at night. With all of my jobs I make around 35K/year! It works for me! :) I thought about finishing my degree and becoming a teacher, but right now I am happy with the way things are going!
Great video! You are right on with all of these points! Teaching gets tougher and tougher each year...it's never ending. I've taught for a long time and the amount of extra work gets more and more each year even if the "teaching" part gets a bit easier.
I'm currently a Para Educator at a High School and I have 6 periods with one planning period. I'm a study hall teacher and have access to their Edgenuity and FLVS to unlock unit tests and do reviews. Pay grade is much higher and that's enough responsibility for now 😊
@@_lovelykristenas a man and my demeanor I set my boundaries fast and backed it up with admin intervention and referrals. After the rules were set, I now can finally show them I'm here to help and encourage them to earn those credits they are lacking. Juices and hot Cheetos helps lol
@@LifeisGood863 wait, so its okay to give students things? I get the positive reinforcement aspect but I still feel uncomfortable. I start professional development next week haha
I just overcame my first year of teaching and it was very very hard . I can agree with everything you are saying. I also had a para that helped less. I didn’t think I had any help . It was hard I can relate.
You got through it, and that’s a blessing! My first year was hard unnecessarily. I’m learning from my experience this year that things can be so much easier with the right support and guidance. I’m in love with the grade I teach and the school I’m at. Don’t give up. If you love teaching, keep searching until you find the right fit. It truly makes a difference!
I understand the benefits, but it does feel like too much at times. I’m still trying to figure out things inside the classroom, so having so many outside responsibilities can become overwhelming.
Thank you so much for this video!! I'm super excited to attend a job fair for paras coming up at my kids' school. I have a feeling this playlist is going to help me decide if this might be the route to go! I got an associate's degree ten years ago with every intention of becoming a teacher, but I only took a few classes on teaching. After having my second baby, the dream fizzled down. 4 amazing kiddos later, I think it's time to step back into my personal calling since my youngest will be in preschool this year 😅 anyway TMI I guess but I'm thrilled to have found your channel
I’m glad it could inspire you. Definitely go for it. You never know until you give it a chance. It’s such a rewarding career overall. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I appreciate you watching 💕💕
Go for it girl! Time to let mama follow her dreams. I was a SAHM for 9 years!!!! My youngest starts kindergarten next month and I’ll start my para job too. I’m nervous and excited.
Good afternoon Ms. Leonard: I hope this comment finds you doing well, blessed, and staying safe. I am doing well. Thank you for sharing this episode on the pros and cons of being a certified educator and paraprofessional. I truly understand what you are talking about. It is a reward making a difference in the scholars lives knowing that they feel comfortable with you taking time to educate them in preparation for our global society. Have a blessed day and weekend ahead!
Those pros & cons were on point. I’ve worked as a para and now a specials teacher and you hit the nail on the head 😅.

One thing I also like to say it is our classroom we are both equal adults and you treat us the same way. Degree or not it doesn’t matter
Thank you for talking about this. I am a Para. I enjoy supporting students and teachers. It is rewarding. Thank you for your videos.
@@debbiephillips6809 It really is. I loved being a para. Love being a teacher. Glad you enjoyed this video 🩷
Great points, all so helpful. I was wondering as a paraprofessional if you had to ever be the substitute teacher for the class(es) you worked in.
I did several times when they had to leave early or if they had to step away for a meeting or training and didn’t have coverage.
This is a really good video. I’m very happy for you that you’re now a teacher. Congrats 😁💯
Thank you! I appreciate it 💕
Great video and tips!!!
Thanks ma!! 💕

Know you boundaries but also remember that you’re an equal
Do you think so many meetings and trainings that teachers must attend are necessary? Do you feel that they make you a better teacher?
I understand the benefits, but it does feel like too much at times. I’m still trying to figure out things inside the classroom, so having so many outside responsibilities can become overwhelming.
Great video ❤

I had a situation with ESS what it means to be paraprofessional for filling in for the day.
Hey! Not sure what you’re asking.
As a teacher or paraprofessional, do you choose which grade you will work with or is it based on the school's needs?
Some administrations will ask your preference and will try to make it work, but it ultimately is based on the needs of the school.
Um i love doing this stuff. So not doing the lesson plan and other stuff is a bigger con to me than doing it

As a paraprofessional, did you work in one classroom or did you assist in multiple classrooms?
I’ve done both. I assisted in one class when I was a 1-on-1 sped para. Then I became a 4th grade sped para so I assisted in multiple classes.
As a para did you have to attend Professional Development Days?
@@sayitaintso56 I literally can’t remember any.
