This is good advice. I’m going to my first day as a paraprofessional so I’m nervous. I know my biggest struggle is asking for help or asking for what I need. I’m use to keeping quiet and doing things on my own. It has always been a struggle for me. But with these tips, it makes me feel better
Thank you! Trust me, I understand it’s hard, but I have to remember that I can’t help the students if I don’t ask for what I need. Good luck! Let me know how it goes! You got this! 💕
Good luck! I start on Tuesday, this video has helped relieve some of my concerns as well.
@@brianaaaa454 Good luck!! Wishing you the best 💕
First congratulations! It is an awesome experience. Remember that you are a part of a team and have a teacher there to guide you.
If you don't mind me asking how much did you get paid? I just got hired as a paraprofessional for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing but I have not started yet. I'm not sure how much a paraprofessional gets paid and I don't want to be low balled.
Hello, thank you for sharing your experience and guidance.
Any way I can help 💕
That was great. Good tips!!
Thanks ma!! 💕🥰🥰
Great video. Do a video on your one on one experience and tips.
I start in a couple weeks and would like to become a teacher. I’m almost there! These were great tips! Thanks so much!
Congrats! I’m glad these helped ☺️
I've been having so much anxiety about my first job as a para so far until I watched this video. I felt like I was asking too many questions for the job, but I this reassures me a lot 😓❤
I hope everything gets better for you. Definitely don’t be afraid to ask questions. That’s how you learn 💕 Wishing you the best!
@@_lovelykristenwat certification is needed to become a para??
@@deepikamalininandagopal5279 Paraprofessional certification. You’ll have to take an exam most likely unless you have a college degree in which case you won’t have to take it. At least that’s how it is in my district.
Thank you so much. Love this. I want to be a teacher one day so this is really helping me because I got to study for this role (being a paraprofessional) aka “parapro GACE” so studying that started now. Thank you so much for this video.
Thanks for watching 💕 Wishing you the best on your journey.
Thank you for this video. I agree with your tips. I’ve been a paraprofessional for 8 yrs and sometimes we need reminders 😊.
You’ve been in this field for a while! We could definitely use reminders from time to time. It’s all a learning process 💕
Thanks for watching!!!
I found this video incredibly helpful, I don’t have much experience working with special education kids. I’ve done summer camps and soccer coaching for younger kids (elementary school age) throughout high school, so I’m hoping at least some of that experience can be applied in this setting. Tomorrow, I’m starting my first day as a substitute para and I had a long talk with my sister who actually worked as a para in the same district before she moved elsewhere.
I was having trouble getting my nerves under control because I want to do this and be good at it, but I realize i’m going to make mistakes and that’s okay as long as I learn and do better or take a different approach the next time.
I’m hoping to get a full time para job out of this if it’s something I enjoy…I was told that could be an option if certain schools “like you” enough (and that would be in time the more I sub at certain schools). So…I will see how tomorrow goes!
Thank you for this video and the tips are incredibly helpful for someone like me!
I’m glad you found it helpful. I hope today went well. Go into it with an open mind and willingness to learn. It will all work out 💕
Love this video and your channel. Followed you and congrats on getting your own class! I think I'm going to start some content on being a SPED parapro or at my school, Instructional Assistant. I'm having some barriers with me completing my degree and I think I want to document that and share the journey with others.
Thank you! I appreciate you watching and following 💕 Excited to see your journey if you do decide to document the process. You totally should 🥰
Been so excited for my para position! I am gonna be in SpeEd. I’ve been learning ASL and Spanish and i think it will help with students who have language barriers and hearing disabilities. I think it would help take some stress off the faculty if someone understands students and “speaks their language”. It may help in some circumstances but I want to learn more of how to be a “para” rather than a translator. ❤ thanks for the info and inspo!!!
Congratulations! That’s awesome. You’ll definitely be a great asset being that you’re already thinking of ways you can make a difference.
This is really great information! I’m currently a paraprofessional for 4th and 5th graders. I definitely agree with you on each of these tips!
Thank you! I appreciate you watching! 4th can be challenging some days, but I still love it 💕
Thank you so much for all of this advice. I haven't went to school for anything yet, so I'm going based off life experiences. But I start my job as a 1 on 1 paraprofessional in 10 days. Your advice really helps a lot!
You’re very welcome! Good luck on your new position. I hope you enjoy it 💕✨
Do you have to back to school to be a para ??
@@tekeshamaynard3469 yes you do. I was very lucky to get accepted with only life experience
You def made me feel way better about being a para. I applied to different positions but am scared !!! Phew.
I’m so glad I could make you feel better. Don’t be scared. Lean on your teachers and admin for support. You got this!
GOOD VIDEO. VERY PROFESSIONAL. THANKS ❤
Thank you for watching 💕
Great advice.
Thank you! I appreciate you watching 💕💕
I just passed my test and got hired by a school the same week. This helped a lot. Thank you
That's awesome! Best of luck!
Wat certification is needed to become a para?
Which resource that you use to prepare you for the exam
These are great tips for Paras, I am a Para Coach and these are def some of the things I share with my Paras.
Thank you! Definitely wanted to help because some of these I had to learn the hard way.
This was an amazing video. I found it a few days ago prepping for my special education para position. I dont know until a second interview at the district office if I get it...but the questions you listed were almost exact! Congratulations on your teaching position! 🎉
Awesome! Thank you! I hope you get it. I’m sure you will. Let me know 💕💕
I was offered the position at the District Office (second intv) with admin this morning. Thank you for sharing and inspiring!!
@@VaxjoyOllie2 I’m so happy to hear that! Congratulations. And of course 🩷🩷
Thanks for the advice, I'm a new Para starting in August. I'm really nervous lol
Of course 🫶🏽 I’m sure you’ll do great! Just be willing to learn, ask questions, be positive, and try your best 🤍 You got this!
What kind of questions did they ask in your interview?
@@marydomingo9878When it was for the 1 on 1, it was more of a conversation. They told me what would be required to work with the student I was being hired for. I assured them I would be able to handle it, and that was that. Super simple. Lasted less than 10 mins. Mainly because it was just making sure I could care for her physical needs: lifting her to and from her wheelchair, ensuring safety with the wheelchair - stuff like that. When I applied for the sped para position at my 2nd school, the principal asked more questions because it was a position working with more students and supporting their academic needs. She just asked why I wanted to work with more kids, why was I looking to transfer to another school, I had to tell her a little about myself. Very simple and easy interview process.
New subscriber this video is super helpful. I’ve been working with children for 13 years in the ECE field I have my CDA and currently working on my Associates Degree in ECE. I’ve worked with children with special needs before, and recently decided that I’d like to work as a SpeEd teacher in elementary school. I wanted to know what I needed to do to get started.
Hey! Glad to have you subscribe. Congratulations. You should talk to whatever school district you’ll be working in, let them know your qualifications, and see what your options are. I was able to work as a provisional teacher while I was in school to get my masters/certification in elementary edu. I just graduated earlier this month.
Thank you
I find it easier to work with kids than adults too
Ty
Hi!! Thank you for this information I wanted to apply to a paraprofessional and this is so helpful ❤️😊 do you guys work through the summer or completely closed like the kids are during the summer?
Yes, paras are off during the summer just like teachers.
In my school district, Paraprofessionals ARE required to be Certified. We have to re-certify every three years and are required to attain 50 credits within those years to become re-certified.
Do you mean paraprofessional certification? I had to have my para cert. for the position and that’s it.
great advice from her
Thank you 🫶🏽
What do you do to improve your mood when you are in a bad mood?
Whenever I’m in a bad mood, I take time to be alone in order to regroup and get myself to a better place.
What are the educational requirements to become a special education paraprofessional? I have a bachelors degree in sociology but would like to go the education route. I did before I tried to obtain a bachelor’s in special education before I pursued a degree in sociology but left because I am not a good test taker ( praxis) but did enjoy teaching special need students during one of my field experience for one of the classes
It varies depending on where you live. In my state, we have to meet one of the qualifications: have an associates degree or higher from an accredited school, completed 2 years of college coursework with passing grades, or have a high school diploma or GED and have passed the paraprofessional GACE.
EDIT: this is for any para position in my state.
I start tomorrow... Nervous so much, even if i do have experience with kids, i also have severe anxiety ..
I struggle with anxiety too. I am living proof that you can do it even when it feels impossible 🩷
Thanks for information.
I have a question.
I am interesting to get a license. What the highest grade/class can you be able to work as a paraprofessional position?
It depends on where you apply and what position. You can apply for positions at an elementary, middle or high school.
I got hired and I am coming from working as a preschool teacher. I am just nervous if i can handle it as far as working one on one in a classroom.
You got it! Good luck 💕💕
That was really great information. I am a paraprofessional in a class aid. I would like to know how I would be able to let the teacher know that there’s a student that basically requires a one on one for full support. There’s times that I’m taking care of the whole class which is 17 students plus that student that needs hands on 100%, if there’s anything that you could advise me to do please let me know I’ve spoken to my VP regarding this matter and all she says is that the student doesn’t have a one on one so she doesn’t need hands-on. I’ve told the teacher that she needs full support and it’s hard for me to do both. If you could please help me and give me some kind of advice that would be amazing. Thank you.
Thanks for watching. I have been told that it's really hard for students to get 1 on 1s unless the situation is almost extreme. The only students at my school who have 1 on 1s are the ones who are visually impaired or if they're in a wheelchair. I don't think any other students are eligible even if it seems they can't get anything done without having someone next to them walking them step by step through everything. I would say just talk to the teacher about your concerns and let her handle it from there. You just have to keep doing the best you can as an aid. That's all you can do. Good luck!
Well, I take that back. I think one student at my school got approved for one recently, but I'm not sure the circumstances. I'm assuming they must be kind of extreme. I guess it really just depends on each child's unique situation. Just express your concerns and see where it goes from there. Again, good luck!
I’m thinking of about applying
Go for it!! 💕
Thank you right I’m working with kids spectrum of autism and also on the process getting my RBT certification as well
How hard is the exam
@@JaniveMerritt I didn’t have to take it since I have a degree.
Ok thanks
What book wouldn’t you recommend to study for certification
To study for the teacher certification assessment? I took the elementary GACE to get certified in elementary education. I didn’t use a book to study. I purchased the practice exams for both parts when I scheduled the exam. I used those as a guide to know what to study. If you’re talking about the para certification exam, I can’t recommend anything because I didn’t have to take it to get my para cert because I already had a degree when I started working as a para.
heyhye i just did an interview for a papr here in indiana n n was so confused i thought it was the same as teacher assisstant i have to take tht test n im so nerovus
Hey. Paras and teacher’s assistants are just different names for the same thing pretty much. In my district, they use paraprofessional/para. Other places they may use teacher’s assistant or teacher’s aide (TA).
Is it only for native English speakers or even us too English second language ? I want to have a certificate as paraprofessional, right now I’m just a sub teacher but I work only as sub assistant teacher still scared to make any step as a sub teacher because of my English language 😢.what do you advise me of since you re in the field ?
Thanks in advance
Hey. I recommend inquiring with whatever school district you want to work for and see what knowledge/skills they want paraprofessionals to have. It will most likely depend on the position. Definitely look into it and don’t be afraid to find out what they’re looking for. You’ll never know unless you ask.
Good evening, I would like to know how you did, I find the exam super difficult, for paraprofessional . Thank you
Hey. I didn’t take it. I had a degree already, so I didn’t have to take an exam to get my para certification.
What entry qualifications do I need to be employed as a paraprofessional?
It depends on your state. You can find qualifications on the school district’s website.
Kisten is there a way that i can send u a message please?
I applied twice and failed the test I'm applying again but math is my nightmare
Math is everyone’s nightmare (well maybe not everyone ☺️). Good luck! I believe you can do it this time around.
I’m interested to be paraprofessional
You should definitely go for it!
I test for my paraprofessional test in Aug.. super scared
You got it! Sending all the positive vibes your way! 💕
@@_lovelykristen can you suggest on how to study for it?
@@danacelenski3909 I wish I could. I didn’t have to take it because I have a bachelor’s degree. Associates or higher or 2 years of college course work is required in order to not take the paraprofessional assessment.
Can you tell me your test experience please?
@@murshedaakhter4255The only test I’ve had to take is the GACE to get my certification in elementary education/complete my masters program. When I registered for the exam, I purchased the practice tests for each part to help me prepare for it. I passed both parts. I haven’t had to take any other tests. I already had a degree when I applied for para positions, so I didn’t have to take a para test to get certified.
I’m scared to take the para test
Don’t be scared. You got this ❤
Same here..

I just got hired as a parapro for special needs at an elementary school and I’m horrible at algebra/geometry/math in general… 😅 Not looking good for this exam cause I definitely need insurance benefits and I can’t get them until I pass it… I’m Type 1 Diabetic so I need benefits for my meds lol I just have zero hope for this exam lol
Believe in yourself. You’ll do better than you think 🩷
