This was one of the most informative moving videos I’ve seen on here. I’m moving to Dallas this summer and this video definitely helps! Thanks for sharing!
No you definitely don’t need furniture, but at least have an air mattress. You can get them for as low as $20 bucks. Adding on to registration, When you get your inspection they are supposed to ask for insurance. Also, Texas is a 2-plate state. You must have license plates on the front and back of your car. Yeah Houston is a Bayou and sits on a swamp so it can be funky not to mention all the plants on the south side. HOUSTON ROADS ARE TERRIBLE! Save money for an alignment 🤣🤣🤣 Also, FLOODZONES! The maps are not fully accurate in some places! Ask people who are from the area about flooding before you move there!
So I just packed up and leave my home town ended up back in my hometown 🤦🏾♀️ (long story ) now I’m glad I can make a year to plan properly so I can move.
GIIIIIIRRRRLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for this video. Please give an update after your 1 year. Houston is so much like D.C. we have to do the same with our cars and apartments. I can't wait to get there!!!!
I am saving to move to Houston, I’m thinking the Cypress area. Are there any other areas that would be good? I don’t want to live downtown, I like the outskirts.
I truly appreciate you sharing your moving experience from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Houston, TX! I honestly was thinking about moving in the opposite direction from Dallas, TX to Fort Lauderdale, FL due to the year-round weather being much more preferable. Maybe you already covered this in your previous videos, but can you share why you choose to leave the sunshine and beachy state of Florida for Texas?
@@kmydesire12 Wow! Thanks for sharing that info! I know the cost of living is higher out there compared to Dallas or Houston, Texas. What cities are you considering relocating to until rent prices in SE Florida fall to more reasonable levels?
@@High_Ja_kel I’m considering Houston. I’ve been in fl 13 yrs. in order to put my kids in good schools would mean pay 2000 and up for rent. South Florida has no sense of urgency. Customer service doesn’t apply out here and it’s just time to move
Tuh 😂😂 I have moved back to Fort. Lauderdale and I am loving every ounce of it .. It wasn’t necessarily I CHOSE Texas over Florida .. it was just the rent prices ! But what I’ve learned from being in Houston is that you honestly get what you pay for so honestly .. I rather pay a higher price for better quality.. And with the high price comes great weather, food, beaches, etc .. So I’m gonna deal with it without complaining this time around !
That's a great checklist Bri! One thing I would add is if you want to open a bank account here, some banks (Chase, for example, it happened to me) will also require a proof of residency. I don't know if this was because I had never had an address in the US befire or you really need to prove that you reside in the actual state of Texas but yeah. For me it was a thing. :D
I live in southeast Texas all my life, proof of residency is pretty much a requirement to anything, whether it’s buying a vehicle, apartment, opening a bank account, new job etc.
I’m just wondering about the diversity I currently live in Wisconsin in a small town where it’s not diverse at all but I’m looking more towards Austin and I’ll be touring Austin and Houston so between the both I want to make sure that I’m comfortable socially. And safe because I will be going alone at 20 😭 and I’m trying to figure out well all I would need to pay for besides rent when you get a new apartment.
Mmmm diversity here is okay it’s not bad could be a bit more of us but we’re here.. and a list of the utilities that I listed in the video is excluded from rent hope that helps !! 💕
Do you give them your bank statements to show you made the 3x for a year, or do you need to make that amount for the month? I want to know how to get approval for an apartment.
Yes every year .. but if you go to a mechanic and pay 80 they’ll just sign for you .. it’s illegal but like EVERYONE does it .. or most of the city I should say ..
Hey my fiancé and I are relocating from Chicago to Houston, and we was wondering what are some good areas to look at? Our budget right now to buy is low 2 - low 3 but once we get settled and adjusted to Texas life, it would move up to that high 3- mid 4 range . we know the Houston market is very competitive and was wondering if there was alternative areas we should also consider. We are a young professional black couple and are looking for a young professional/progressive/ vibrant and fun neighborhood (we don't want to live in the hood but we also don't want to live in "omg, like-like, USA" or 5 under the speed limit, both hands on the steering wheel city of yes sir", if you get what I saying lol). Basically I want to shop, eat, and get my hair cut with out feeling like I'm in the Southside of Chicago or the middle of Charlottesville Virginia. 😂😂😂 Thank you
At that budget, I'd suggest pearland or nice areas of 3rd ward, specifically around McGregor/riverside terrace. Although, the latter option might be a bit above the budget nowadays. Houston proper has gotten expensive within the last 5-10yrs. So a close suburb would be your best bet in the 2-300k range. Of the suburbs, Pearland and Missouri City has the most of "us" if you know what I mean.
Me my wife moving from Chicago we check out the Area we love Katy also in your range but we like Katy because of the schools and also park area lot of attractions everywhere overall Houston is beautiful
Did you save any money up before you moved? How much? I want to move to Texas. I have money saved up to do so, but the hardest thing is when I want to leave, and I have kids too. And the weird smell- I live in Tennessee now, born and raised, and there’s a road in my city that I drive on located near a quarry or sulfur plant, whatever it is and it smells like rotten egg/sewage when I drive by… 🤢
Yea that’s exactly what Houston smell like at certain times.. I saved 8k but by the time I paid for everything & relocated. It took 2 months to find a job and my money was done. I still had $800 in bills. Cell , student loans , dental , health , makeup school, car insurance etc. so yeah, it all just depends everyone’s journey is so different hope this helps 💕
Car inspections that sounds like to much , weird smells , floods, snakes , I live in Fl it’s too expensive sighs I don’t know always thought to move to Tx but I’m stuck in between Ga I don’t care for GA though but have family there plus Ga is expensive now according to relatives . Yeah nobody owns no states people live where they can afford let folk be .
Yea Texas was a bit much I just moved back to Fl .. and yes I knew GA was going up in prices in 2018 when I was comparing Houston and Atlanta .. Try north of Fl !
Im moving to Houston in a couple of months for university. Coming from London. It’s a massive move for me. Thanks this was super helpful. Haha 🇬🇧✈️
I’m from London too and thinking about moving to Houston how is it there anyway for you let me know keep me updated

It’s very diverse here. We have areas where different ethnicity’s live (together) but overall houston is a gumbo sized pot of everyone.
Here in WI too, I wish you well hun 💞
Houston definitely wins then if you want diversity.
Thanks for the info planning to moved to Houston in Aug 2022. I love your earrings where did you buy them?
From Amazon 🥰💕

How much are an average apartment i was hoping to only pay like $900 monthly also are there alot of job opportunities?
