Hey Guys!
My friend Sergej from Russia sent me this Rusty Axe Head for Restoration. Since the Axe Head didnt have a special shape, nor its a rare piece from a rare brand, I decided to do some fancy stuff with it. I started with sandblasting the rusty axe head to have the bare metal. After that i milled a Goldfish style pattern in it and brass brushed the whole axe head to give it a golden shine. Next step was making a new handle out of a big piece of ashwood, which got stained later on in a mahagony color. The Axe is a display piece and wont be used.
I hope you have fun with the video! If you have any questions on the used tools, materials or the processes, write it in the comment section - i´ll try to answer as soon as possible!

It'll not have been the last time you guys see us doing a project together🥰!!!
Hey man, that was a really cool collab! Iam sure were doing some more stuff in the future. Keep it up and thanks a lot! :-)
Thanks for videoing this, gonna go look at it right now. Thanks for helping out Mr. P, he's a great guy, and look forward to more collabs.
@@Vickie-Bligh Sure thing Vickie ; )
Great job Scharfer S.! i checked your video too, great collab
@@Suinsap happy you liked it
I was not a fan of the fish scales, but man did I love watching the free handing of the handle.
Thanks Isaac, iam glad you enjoyed!
You & Dr Beer each have such a great dry sense of humor. Must be fun when you're hanging out together. 😊
Haha, guess you’re right! It truly is. He came over last Saturday, we had a delicious BBQ, lots of beer and a lot of laughs 😄
Wow! That disassembly was intense!
😳🤣🤣🤣👍❤
Yeah it was pretty time consuming 😄
We all need a friend from Russia who gifts us axes. Awesome. Great vids!!!!
Haha, that’s right! Thanks man!
It looks really good. I'm also impressed with the gleaming red sandblasting cabinet. That's a thing of beauty as well.
Thanks Jozsef, iam glad you like it!
That looked fun to do. Excellent disassembly too!
Haha, thanks Derek!
Disassembling part is the best! 🤣🤣🤣
Fun project but I really wished the scales were even and uniform.
Not a fan of the scales, but wow that handle!! Absolute beauty!!! Love that deep stain color too!! 👍🏻👍🏻❤️
I want to say that one thing I especially like about your videos is that you. Don't. Talk. You don't tell, you show. Thank you so very much for showing us HOW you do things!
Thanks Jim! Iam glad you like my work.
Fastest disassembly I've ever seen... Cheers and happy new year!
Haha, thanks my friend! Happy new one!
Mr. P! Another fantastic video. Still looking for the "I can work with that" t-shirt!
Thanks J! You´ll be the first one gettin it :-)
Oh yeah I know him, Sergej from Russia, nice guy
The "disassembly" had me rolling! 10/10!
Haha, thanks! Iam glad you enjoyed 🙂
I’ve always admired your file work and this just added to that, especially the handle. Looking forward to the next vid.
Hey Paul, thanks! I really appreciate!
I laughed way too hard at the disassemble “done”
Haha, I couldn’t resist 😄
What a satisfying restoration.
Thanks!
Nice work, I love that you add humor to all your videos. That said, I've never seen such a robust axe (or maul), and the handle woodwork! when I thought you were gonna darken it with the torch, you surprise us with the marvellous layering, it looks awesome! Greetings from Brazil! 🪓
Hey Gus, thanks! Iam glad you enjoyed 🙂
С наступающим новым годом ! Всех благ и удачи !)
Спасибо, и вам того же желаю :-)
I've never seen such an outrageously oversized chisel hahaha. That said, the handle you shaped with it mixed with the stain is gorgeous! I really need to try out transferring brass to steel and iron in the future. A great video as per usual 😘
Hohoho what’s up bro?? Thanks! Wish all the best for you and yours for 2022! Let’s reactive those olde WA chats 😘
@@misterpatina Hahaha I see you still haven't forgotten my patented intro! I totally forgot the new year was (almost) here, but happy new year to you too! 2021 sure went by fast haha. Yeah man, it's bee too long since out last (always highly serious) chats have taken place 😆
Love the goldfish scales. The axe is gorgeous once you and Scharfer Schnitt have finished it.
Thanks Shannah, iam glad you enjoyed our work 🙂
I actually Love you man haha. You are really funny! Your work always gets me excited to watch. Much love.
Haha, hey Michael, thank you so much! Hugs from Frankfurt!
A fish might be jealous of your axe! Good Job pal!
Haha, thanks a lot bro!
That is a splitting maul and now it's a mighty fancy one! Very creative and nicely done to.....scale!🙃
Thanks Tom, iam glad you enjoyed 🙂
That handle work was beautiful. I love woodworking by hand.
Thanks for the upload. Excellent work. All the best for 2022.
Thanks Daniel! The same for you and yours 🙂
Mr. Patina, thanks for your vids. It is greatest pleasure to watch your work. Keep going!
That's a big ass handle for a little axe head. But hey, I can't complain much. I like the way this one turned out. Great job Mister Patina and Scharfer Schnitt!
It might be small but the axe head realy got some weight to it so he had to go with a somewaht bulky handle ; ) thanks for watching
@@scharferschnitt1071 understandable. Thanks for clarifying that.
Thanks Mark! Iam glad you like it!
@@misterpatina yes I do. That mahogany stained handle really sets it off.
Good job Mister Patina. I personally prefer the plain surface of the axe without the scales pattern, but it's a matter of personal taste. Cheers from the Basque Country 🙋🏽👍🏽🙏🏽!
Merci Jean-Pierre! 🙂✌️
That's not a rusty axe! That's a axy rust. Can you AXE the axe how rusty it is? 😂
AXEllent comment Liam!
That file was the real deal. Excellent work. Cheers!
Haha, thanks bro!
eautiful work and your Dad sure helped out lke his son he is a good guy.
Not a fish scale fan but did a great job making them. The handle was the best for me. All good in the end. Fantastic craftsmanship!!!!!

Found your comments on "my mechanic's" channel. I'm glad I checked out your content. This was a great video!
Thanks a lot! 🙂
Mr. P.!
This is, as we are always used to from you, a super job with a very nice result! I have to remember that with the brass, that's kind of freaky. The huge wood file is awesome....
Greetings FSR
Thanks a lot sir.
Mal wieder ein Hammer Video und noch mega gut gemacht die Klasse arbeit Love it ❤️👍👍❤️
Danke Pascal! Guten Rutsch morgen 🙂✌️
The finish on the head makes this tool definitely stand out among its brothers. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍😁😁🇨🇱🇺🇸
Hey Paul, thanks for watching! 🙂
Колун. Предназначен для раскалывания толстых чурбаков на поленья. Там где топор застрянет и не расколет из за малого веса, колун справится.
👍🤝

World's first Russian axe that doubles as a cheese grater!
What a gorgeous pattern and great-looking ax. Nicely done Mr. P. Glad to see a new video, you've been missed. Great shout out to Dr. Beer.
Thanks Vickie! And sorry for the delay, there’s still a regular dude with a regular life behind the scenes 😉
@@misterpatina glad to hear! I understand really well that not all RUclipsrs can do this full time. AND it takes time to do a careful restoration. However long it takes, happy you're here.
Thanks Vickie
lol, geat video I loved the axe and the collab, great comment too. I take Dr Beer is from Australia..? Melting expert? I follow him too.
@@Suinsap Dr Beer is from Germany. In fact, lives very close to Mister Patina.

Haha, yeah I couldn’t resist 😄
Top draw as usual !!!
Thanks Justin!
Hello Mr Patina. Nice work, your very symmetrical handle (how do you do that) seemed just right for that maul. Ah old tools, if only they could talk. It might say umm, please remove my thin surface hardening so your lathe won't vibrate and your filing will work faster. You got it done anyway, you must have a rock climbers arms by now. Have you tried the expanding wood glues out there? Just sand off the excess when cured. Keeps moisture out, no loosening from use. Friend Scharfer clearly saw the intended use for that head. I have to say your result level is light years beyond mine. Delightful to observe. Many thanks. Good luck.
Always enjoy watching your videos all the way from the USA
