One of many things I enjoy your videos is the way you use what byproducts, scraps, ends of rolls and such that are available, and design according to what you have. It’s inspiring for those of us who only have odds and ends!
Hello Christine. It's 6:00 in the morning. Please don't add music. I can watch without turning the volume up and down. I enjoy your videos just the way they are. For me, videos with music usually destroy my enjoyment. I don't want to wake anyone up with loud music coming in and out on a video. You do GREAT work, thanks.
You are without doubt the best teacher of sewing fabrics on RUclips , clear instructions with so many tips that would take us years of trial and error to learn for ourselves. Thank you Christine for sharing your talent xx love the bags, will be making these for sure.
I just recently found your channel. I have been looking at a crate of upholstery material that was gifted to me 2 years ago and not having any good ideas on what to do with them. Thanks to you I now do. I'm preparing my fabric to do these incredible bags you make a craft fair in October. BTW, to get the glue off I have found that using a tracing wheel to poke holes in the paper and then spraying 91% rubbing alcohol on the paper and let it sit for a few minutes loosens the glue. I am able to get all the paper off and the alcohol also removes the glue as a bonus. It may have to be done once or twice but it works beautifully. I love your work. I love your channel. I love the fact you use recycled fabric. I recycle everything. Thanks again and keep the videos coming.
Christine although I am sure you singing voice is a marvel to behold, but I do enjoy your honest waffling. Its one of the things we all love about your genuine and enjoyable tutorials 😊
Thank you! This is just what I needed! You're the perfect blend of inspiration and a pallette cleanser between my own projects to reset my brain and restock my motivation. Bless you!
Thank you for taking the time to teach us with such great instructions. I'm glad to see that you're feeling better. Please take care of yourself and get the rest that you need.
I love your channel! I'm inspired and look forward to applying your great sewing ideas in my projects. After watching this I looked on line for Sew Easy tape, you are right, this product is as scarce as hair on a frog! Thank you for testing tape products and sharing results.🌹🌹
Hi Christine, been super busy for the last few weeks. So catching up on all your videos I missed. I really enjoy your batch sewing tutorials, so many great tips. Thank you for sacrificing a good needle for the tape comparison, valuable information for all your viewers. I am good without music also. I would prefer listening to you or your machine. Look forward to more tutorials. Thank you sew much!
I recently moved and finally got to unpack fabric. I found my upholstery swatches last night and then saw your video. What timing. Thank you for sharing this pattern idea, it's perfect. 😊
Fantastic tutorial Christine, love the bags! Listening to your machine buzz is enough music for me. I bought some 6mm double sided tap from ebay. It works well. Love your work! 😊
Always love your videos! Here in the States, we get Wash Away Wonder Tape at the local craft stores. It's made by Dritz, a Prym Consumer USA Company. I can send you a pic of the product as I just bought more yesterday. Lol No music is my preference as you have a pleasant speaking voice. 😊
Thanks for your tutorials, Christine. Please do not add music - it’s very relaxing watching you sew and just listening to the whirring of your machine. Other channels add annoying music which detracts from the videos. Happy 2024 and wishing you every success with your fabric recycling projects.
Enjoyed watching you sewing all those bags. I find it really therapeutic watching you sewing. I’m fine either way with music in the quiet bits but then I’m fine with the quiet too. Look forward to the next one 👍
I prefer without music. I've seen videos where they have the music so loud it's difficult to hear the directions. You always speak slowly & clearly. thank you.
Batch sewing is just like working in the garment industry. Each one of these jobs are done by different people. I think I am going to sew up some of these fat quarters that I have had since covid. I made mask with hand sanitizer bags. Thanks for this tutorial.
Christine, I really like the style of this bag, especially the different fabric at the bottom. My thoughts on music: please don’t. Pretty please. Pretty please with brown sugar on top. But other than that I have no opinion.
Love this video, I'm going to have to watch it a few times. I also have some amazing swatches I need to make some bases with and your technique is great. Thank you for the video. 😊
I bought some double sided tape too it gummed up my needle on the first pass so bad I wacked it into the trash can. Thanks for this lovely crossbody bag, I'm going to try this one for sure. I just got me some cheap zippers to practice making more zipper bags, everybody wants to keep their "stuff" secure these days and a snap just doesn't cut it. Thanks again, oh and no music I love to hear you talk, you explain things as you go and that's what I need to hear.
These bags are awesome, just the right size, beautiful patterns on materials and a wonderful tutorial to follow.Thank you so much for your videos and how you go step to step on making them.
Hi Christine Cathryn in Colorado. Very nice to see you do cross body bag. Nice tips too. The webbing can be secured with burning the edges with a lighter then you don't have to double over to secure. I do a lot of outdoor gear here and that save a bit of fuss. Nah we don't need music, your just fine. I went down to my local upholstery shop and they nearly cried when I asked for some samples book. They have been storing them a LONG time. The cross body bags are sold in an art museum shop in Denver and she charges $120 US. I did a version and will send a pic if you like. I think it's too much but then again art museum--who knows. I can't charge that. I get really turned around with the strapping and could use your help with just that in slow motion! We tend to use a lot of plastic buckles here in Colorado because of the hiking, boating we do here. They're lighter weight. Best wishes for 2024 and keep posting. Thanks!!
Hi Cathryn. I'd love to see the pic. My email address is in the "about" section. How exciting for you to receive all that fabric. It's going to keep you busy for a long time😀
Fellow Aussie here, I love the double sided tape from Audrey's Fabric and Craft. It comes in big 20m rolls and is very affordable. I've never had it gum up my needled but I don't do big batch sewing so your mileage may vary. Thanks for another great video!
I love your videos and I have made a few of the items that you made tutorials for. You asked if we wanted music in the videos and I will say please don't add music. I like your verbal directions and your explanations on why you do this or that. Your batch sewing techniques are amazing! I am a beginer and just learning what all my Jenome can do. (I inherited it about a month ago) I also appreciate how you explain your pricing and how much you ask for your items. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much Christine for all of the great tutorials. I am still working on some of your projects and I can,t thank you enough for being so clear with your directions. I am a beginner with sewing and I have learned so much.@@ChristinesHomeAffairs
Such lovely bags. Have you ever thought of cutting the pocket the same width of the lining? I do this when I sew my messenger bags. I find it faster as I am sewing the side of the pocket when I am sewing the side of the bag. Hope it makes sense. lol Just a thought
Hi Christine! I started watching this video and I noticed the sewing machine on the right (your left), I hadn't notice before. It looks like a Morse Duomatic, I had never heard of this brand of machine until I was gifted one in September. She wasn't very dirty as I cleaned and oiled her. The only thing I had to buy was the manual. I am really enjoying her. I found the history of the company very interesting.
I love your videos! I always learn something. I’m not a fan of double sided tape or plastic clips or alligator clips. I prefer a couple of pins and iron most seams as I go. I find a second of ironing makes topstitching look better. We all have our best practice methods that we use for faster sewing. I love your batch sewing techniques. It just makes sense. 👍
Loved this video. You’re a master! I’m going to try and get some new sample books. I completely agree they’re the best to work with. If your fabric can withstand rubbing alcohol it will ease the glue off, remove as much paper first and spray it on. A wash after and it’s good to go. ❤
These are so pretty Christine. Thank you for the video as always. Also loved the test with the double sided tape. I wish I could also find some that worked well without the gumming up the needle.
Rather hear you talking then listening to music. The music can be distracting. You do a great job on explaining and demonstrating each project. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊❤
Sailrite has a good double sided tape. If I can't get decent seam tape (double sided tape) I clean my needle with rubbing alcohol (91%) and a cotton swab regularly. Great video though, thanks 😊.
Thanks Christine just bought some tape to try its the one that you like it was $12,00 at the quilt shop seen the other one that you used was expensive the other one was by Annie expensive as well. Have to go to a quilt shop to get some janome needles will see what they have.
Great video. Thank you so much. Really love your bags. I have some fabric like that. I got it where I worked many many years ago. I think I'll find the box there in and try some. Thanks again.
First.. YOU are amazing. Thank you so much for all you do to share your craft. I have learned so much from you. I really love how you share your price as I never know what to price my stuff. I wish for you the best day today and beyond. Your fan David in TX
I love your videos as you know, but while you are just sewing and struggling for something to say I love to hear some happy music. Not while you’re talking, but just for those sewing times.
Another wonderful bag tutorial. Easy and precise instructions. Just in time for Christmas presents😁. Thank you Christine you are a real gem and i am so glad i found your channel❤. Do you think it is because the double sided tape is wider and the needle actually goes through the new one but misses the one you prefer? I have one which i got from Amazon which is narrow as i cant get the one you originally use. I cant say i have any build up because the needle misses the tape. Just a thought😊. No the music just distracts from the video. They are great as they are❤
Thanks Venetia. Yes, I do think the thinner tape works better as you don't usually sew on it. I received a new one today that I'll test out by stitching on it just so I know how it fares. But I do think thinner is better😁
We cannot purchase the Sew Easy tape in the US. Thank you for trying all the tape brands for us. This bag is very cute and would be easy to make with leftover layer cake squares. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for a very helpful tutorial. I would prefer new music. A quiet pause is just fine. I volunteer teaching emigrants to sew and I am learning some good tips from you. I pass them along when they have a project where it works. Thank you.
When I am using double sided tape I put a piece of cotton on the thread guide that is closes to the bottom of the machine and put Sew Smooth (or k y jelly) on it. It lubricates the thread and needle so the glue won't stick. Another way is to have an alcohol wipe or swab handy to run down the needle every so often. It's not my tip but it is a good one.
I’ve tried a similar double sided tape by Dritz - no residue but also nearly impossible to remove the non-stick paper from the tape without tearing it. Also, no music. I find your videos not only instructional but meditative and your commentary delightful. Question: why did you put the D ring strap tabs on opposite sides of the bag zipper? Was it to more evenly displace weight or ?
Bergen, the reason I put the D rings on opposite sides is so that the bag will sit flat when over the shoulder. If I put the tabs on one side, then the bag would fall forward and away from the body if the user used it the wrong way. 😁
Christine, have you tried to contact the brand itself (the firm that makes it) and asked them which wholesalers have them in stock? Sometimes, it's even possible to buy directly for the factory with certain brands if you have a business. I buy my double sided tape via a craft supply wholesaler because I can get it cheaper there than via a sewing supply wholesaler. And there I found 2 mm wide tape what is great (then you can sew next to it)
Hi Katrien. I've tried contacting my wholesaler, and the company directly. I've tried several other companies as well. Most don't respond though. I'm testing out more soon though😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs that's not nice that they don't answer (and also poor customer service from their part) I would put them on the naughty list! I have the advantage that I live in Belgium, so I can very easely order in The Netherlands or Germany with not really a higher shipping fee. But I think that shipping in Australia is quit high so changing wholesalers is not that easy then. Hope you find a good replacement!
Rubbing Alcohol will remove the glue from needles with a swipe or two. It's a bother, but not a big deal. You could even put a drop on a cloth and sew a stitch or two through it. An easy thing to use as a sew through method to get the sticky off the needle is one of those little alcohol prep wipes. They have enough alcohol on them, and they are big enough to sew through (I place it on top of a scrap piece of fabric) but not too much that it could drip into the machine.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs I have got a question regarding the backpaper on the fabrics. Could they be used as interfacing instead of removing them? Love your shows! Wintergreetings from an icecold Sweden (-20˚🥶)!
haha, that sounds very cold Maria. We rarely get below zero. Someone else suggested using the paper as interfacing, and I think it's a good idea. I don't usually stabilize upholstery fabric, but certainly something I will do when I can't remove the paper😁
I definitely have to remember to hold my tongue the right right way! 😋😄 A few questions if you have time: -- What's the purpose/advantage of having the tabs on opposite sides of the zipper? Wouldn't having both on the back side make opening the bag easier, and let the bag lay flatter against the body? -- Do you prefer having the lining in one long piece like this, or do you prefer to have the lining split at the bottom, making it easier to deal with the zipper? -- What's the advantage of top-stitching just along the zipper area, instead of including the tabs?
Yep. It's all in the tongue🤣 *Having the tabs on the back for example, means that it could lean or flop away from the body. Not good if you forget to close it. Having tabs on each side, keeps it closer to you. *I prefer side linings so that you don't see the stitching, but almost all of my bags have bottom seams *The advantage of not sewing to the end, is that the fabric at the very end is easier to manipulate when sewing the side seams, and helps to have better corners. It's also two threads less in stitching, which always helps😁
No music please I prefer to hear you speaking and the sewing machine ‘singing’ - great video as always, never used tape I like my pins and clips - old school here x
Thanks Elly. For bags, I'm a tape and clips kind of gal, whereas in dressmaking and alterations i like my pins and clips. Even if I do feel like a human pincushion 🤣

Your fan David in TX
Thank you so much David. I'm really pleased to be able to help😀
Going to give this a try, been trying to do a cross body bag for along time. Thanks for the lesson.
You're very welcome Ann. Happy sewing!😁
I live in the Bahamas, I watch you as much as I can
So beautiful! You are very talented. ❤
Thank you Vicki😁
I love your videos as you know, but while you are just sewing and struggling for something to say I love to hear some happy music. Not while you’re talking, but just for those sewing times.
Thanks Anne. I sometimes wonder about the music, but almost everyone has asked to leave it out😀
Great video, enjoyed learning some new techniques.😊. Yes, I must pull out my samples & try some, thank you so much! Good luck with your tape search🎉🎉
Thanks Ann. I'm still on the hunt for something decent😁
As always a great product.
Thanks Pat😁
Love you bags 😊
Thank you Judy😁
We cannot purchase the Sew Easy tape in the US. Thank you for trying all the tape brands for us. This bag is very cute and would be easy to make with leftover layer cake squares. Thanks for sharing
I didn't know that Cynthia. I think the one from Sailrite might be the go in the US. I'm trialling another one now too😁
Thank you for a very helpful tutorial. I would prefer new music. A quiet pause is just fine.
I volunteer teaching emigrants to sew and I am learning some good tips from you. I pass them along when they have a project where it works. Thank you.
That sounds like a lot of fun Marilyn. Thank you😁
Thanks for all your tutorials, no music please.
My pleasure Marion. Thank you 😀
When I am using double sided tape I put a piece of cotton on the thread guide that is closes to the bottom of the machine and put Sew Smooth (or k y jelly) on it. It lubricates the thread and needle so the glue won't stick. Another way is to have an alcohol wipe or swab handy to run down the needle every so often.
It's not my tip but it is a good one.
Thanks fir the tips Pam. I found some IPA in Chris's shed🤣
Try using a hairdryer on a hot setting and a tweezer to remove paper. Just found your videos. You are remarkable.
Thanks so much for the tip Eileen😀
Debbi here~ I will put a dot of Dawn Dish detergent on my finger and rub it onto the needle. This helps with glue residue. No music please.
Thanks for the tip Debbie. No music!😁
No music please. I like the format as is. ❤❤
Thanks Julie. It's always nice to get feedback😁
Pleease don’t add music - your videos are perfect as they are.
Thanks Rita.😁
Thanks for the tips. I like the idea of passing the needle through the alcohol wipe😁
A dot of glycerin on your needle will help with the tape residue.
Thanks for the tip Betty😁
@ChristinesHomeAffairs I have got a question regarding the backpaper on the fabrics. Could they be used as interfacing instead of removing them? Love your shows! Wintergreetings from an icecold Sweden (-20˚🥶)!
haha, that sounds very cold Maria. We rarely get below zero. Someone else suggested using the paper as interfacing, and I think it's a good idea. I don't usually stabilize upholstery fabric, but certainly something I will do when I can't remove the paper😁
I definitely have to remember to hold my tongue the right right way! 😋😄
A few questions if you have time:
-- What's the purpose/advantage of having the tabs on opposite sides of the zipper? Wouldn't having both on the back side make opening the bag easier, and let the bag lay flatter against the body?
-- Do you prefer having the lining in one long piece like this, or do you prefer to have the lining split at the bottom, making it easier to deal with the zipper?
-- What's the advantage of top-stitching just along the zipper area, instead of including the tabs?
Yep. It's all in the tongue🤣
*Having the tabs on the back for example, means that it could lean or flop away from the body. Not good if you forget to close it. Having tabs on each side, keeps it closer to you.
*I prefer side linings so that you don't see the stitching, but almost all of my bags have bottom seams
*The advantage of not sewing to the end, is that the fabric at the very end is easier to manipulate when sewing the side seams, and helps to have better corners. It's also two threads less in stitching, which always helps😁
My whish is coming true...
That's wonderful Iris. Thank you😁
No music please I prefer to hear you speaking and the sewing machine ‘singing’ - great video as always, never used tape I like my pins and clips - old school here x
Thanks Elly. For bags, I'm a tape and clips kind of gal, whereas in dressmaking and alterations i like my pins and clips. Even if I do feel like a human pincushion 🤣
Love your videos.No music please.
Thanks you. No music it is😁
Have you tried soaking the stuck on paper with Rubbing Alcohol? Might loosen it up.
Yep! I've tried several solvents, chemicals etc. The hot iron has been the best so far😊
No music please, like you videos and how you put them together
Thanks Michelle. No music it is😁
I I don't mind talking through the videos. I'd rather not have music especially when it's always the same music in every vid!
Thank you. I think almost everybody else is in agreeance. No music!😁
