Hi Emma, Timothy Gordon is not a Catholic, or at least not a Roman Catholic as Joe Biden is. Yesterday, Friday 17th November 2023, Gordon tweeted angrily against the Vatican II Council (1958-1962). Vatican II defined modern Roman Catholicism. The previous Council, Trente, took place between 1545 and 1563 and it was meant to bring a "Reformation" a word Protestants use as well. In 1962, Vatican II brought an end to the use of Latin. The Priest now has to celebrate looking at the audience. The views on heaven and hell are different from what they used to be. Timothy Gordon disagrees with all of this, judging by his Tweet. He might define himself as a true Catholic, ie a Traditionnalist, but in reality he cannot be further away from Pope Francis. Not a Catholic.

As a 40 year old North American man I can say in my experience. My strict masculine Christian upbringing has done infinitely more damage to my life than any feminist. Loved the video.
💯
43 year old white american guy here, and yep. Toxic masculinity and the expectation that all men live up to those bullshit standards is more dangerous to men than any feminist. I am proud to call some very feminist women my friends and they are more accepting and supportive of me being me than assholes like one in this video ever have been.
As a 39 year old North American man, I can attest to this.

"Women shouldn't have opinions. What are your thoughts, Woman?" is such a weird premise for, well, anything really.
He's looking for her to agree as a, "look, this woman agrees so you should too!"
It's the "I have a black friend so I can't be racist" of misogyny.
Wait, woman ARE allowed to have an opinion ..BUT!!! she needs to ask her man first about HIS opinion so she can make it HER opinion and she'll be fine /s
The fact that there's a stigma around reporting something as vile as domestic abuse is insane and disgusting
Certain beliefsystems work as a prison in itself, with the believer being trained into it's personal prisonguard, allowing the prisonguard to be enforced by external influence like BIGOTSSSS. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's part of reality and it's really darn sad.
Exactly.
I know but it is quite odd but there are people that you may love with issues that people look over because they are getting better. actions done today don't define you whole life.
@@drumstruck751that’s just special pleading. My experience with men who inflict violence on their partners, is that they don’t tend to reform without some massive intervention.
Help to end the stigma by hearing victims, women and men.
Coming from an ex-catholic, I think what they really mean by ‘secret feminist’ is a woman who would never self identify as a feminist because they’ve been indoctrinated to think that’s bad, but will still expect a man to treat her well. And then when he doesn’t, she expresses her discontent instead of just taking it.
Also ex Catholic and I think you’ve hit the bullseye. So much of “feminism” to Religious conservatives like the TradCaths in the US is just the “woke” buzzword. They don’t mean anything in particular, they’re just mad about people and call whatever a woman does that makes them mad “feminism”
…And then all the girls who grew up in that environment _still_ have self respect and desire their own personhood (shocker!) and the boys who grew up in that environment take the stupid “bad=feminism” mindset to its logical conclusion and aim that accusation at the women in their life.
Thank you for sharing that insight.
That is exactly right!! 'Secret feminist' is code for 'a woman who insists on being treated with respect, and as an equal'. They can't yet say the quiet part out loud: That women are NOT equal, they are made to be subservient to men.
The "secret feminist" bit where Emma hides behind her chair and bookshelf, pokes her head out and cackles was so funny I'm still wiping tears from my eyes from laughing so hard
I also laughed out loud. That was great.
Me too. Gollum Emma needs to make more appearances.

When I was a Christian I was told to go-to a men's conference and it was all about how the man was the main person in charge of most relationships. It helped me understand how religion is stuck in the dark ages.
Well ya the man leads, the woman follows. Both are equal in the relationship and the woman has say in all decisions.

Judging from the beginning of their video, in don't think their methods will work in either direction.

People who want to go back to the 1950s know nothing about history and are assuming it is all like the TV show Happy Days.
When I researched US suicide a few years back I found the numbers are kind of misleading. The suicide rate was calculated by attempts resulting in death. Interestingly, at that time, if you instead look at attempts regardless of outcome then women attempt suidicde way more often, men are just much more "successful" at it. At the time the contributing factor was assumed to be preferences for method chosen based on gender. Men tend to choose fast/violent methods like hanging or guns. Women tend to choose things like overdosing and cutting. It is much easier to save someone from OD or blood loss than it is to save them from high velocity cerebral lead poisoning.
🦆
Thnx for this 🤘❤️🤘
Good point! And a sad topic.
But still..."high velocity cerebral led poisonig" is so damn good (and frankly hilarious) of a description, that I'm absolutely gonna steal it.
Just another thing men are better at.
@@lethfuil that makes two of us. Great description.
Men approach suicide with a Tim the Toolman Taylor additude. More Powerrrrrrr! Which to be fair is more likely than not going to be more effective.
This is a joke... I don't have any evidence, and there's probably a lot of other factors involved, and this is a morbid anyways.
"Murder's not the answer."
Best relationship advice I've ever gotten.
Hi. I work in Crisis Intervention in the US and can shed some light on the statistics of suicide and hopefully give some context.
First I'd like to say that it's incredibly disingenuous for anyone to claim that the political views of their spouse is a significant contributing factor to suicide. While my own experience is obviously anecdotal, in the decade of talking to actively suicidal people I've never once heard a spouse describe their situation as being based on how the political views of their spouse is driving them to suicide. To be sure, abuse is a contributing factor, but abuse of that scale is not really about political views at that point.
I say this having spoken or chatted/texted with almost 30,000 people in crisis in the last 11 years.
Suicide is typically seen as the last option for most people who act on suicidal plans. They are almost always (and we're not talking about quality of life suicides) preventable if intervention (which in this case usually means just talking about their situation and not physically or legally restraining/constraining) is performed early enough in their plan.
When it comes to statistics about suicide, there is a lot of nuance that is missing in the larger discussion. The most important thing is what we call Means, which is defined as "means of suicide". Guns make up less than 5% of suicidal means, but account for account for over 50% of all deaths by suicide. That's due to the fact that guns are exceptionally lethal. Men far more than women choose guns as their Means and in the cases where a suicidal plan is followed through, the lethality for men trends higher.
Women tend to have more suicidal crises coupled with suicidal actions, but their Means are typically less lethal or have the capacity for them to seek help before it is too late. This also means that a family member or friend that might find them often has a chance to help save their life.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for all human beings aged 10 to 14 and 20 to 34. Despite this monstrous statistic, it is still very stigmatized in society and suicidal acts or plans are often downplayed by friends and family or are criticized as "attention seeking behavior" or "selfish".
For anyone to claim that suicides are fueled by feminism or feminists who wait until after they've married to reveal their true nature is incredibly unrealistic and actually dangerous. It distracts from a real problem, a problem that with the correct approach can be combatted and countless lives saved. To my mind this couple is stealing attention away from one of the most tragic and preventable things that can happen to a person & their friends and family in order to push an agenda that is almost criminally misogynistic.
Excellent post and thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. Agree 100%
"it is still very stigmatized in society "
society has a vested interest in preventing folks from killing themselves.
it so far has not figured out a way to do this other than massively massively stigmatizing it, including calling ppl who do selfish, as you point out.
ofc we know ways to stop it, by 'hasn't figured out' i mean, hasn't figured out how to change culture in the ways that would prevent it.
it is very hard to set up a universal support system that not only covers everyone in crisis, but even ppl who are severely depressed.
shaming them is what we came up with a few thousand years ago, and we're sticking to it, bu God!
i think but am guessing that shame in fact dictates suicide rates more than many or most other factors.
the demographics tend towards ppl who feel shame at their place in life- the minority groups like gays or trans, the young ppl just learning about socialization in high school, the middle aged men whose success is not up to what they think of as societal standards.
...ok, i didn't intend to go deep into this when i started, and i realize i could go on about all this, so i'll just stop.
I had two male cousins, two of three brothers who committed suicide. One was mid twenties, and the other was in the early 30s. One got up from beside his girlfriend in bed and jumped off the roof. The other left his 9 month pregnant wife in the house, went out to the cow shed and shot himself in the head, with the gun they use for shooting rabbits on the farm (our country has VERY strict gun rules). It is obvious that a combination of genetic mental illnesses (showing up less lethally in other family members) and the expectation of male strength contributed to their suicides. Men are often expected to not show weakness, and in a situation where mental illness runs through the family, they decide death was the only way out. It is so sad.
+
Not to diminish any of the rest of what you said, but the idea of someone as young as 10 considering suicide and going through with it is terrifying and sad. Not that its not sad for anyone, but that young? Hits even harder.

As a man who escaped an *actual* abusive marriage, I find it disgusting that there are people who sully the term by classifying an equal partnership as “abusive”.
Love the channel! 🐥
I grew up catholic and one of my aunts had a super abusive husband. He theatened her and their kids and she didn't want to get a divorce because of religion. It took a Christian marriage counselor saying that they really need an annulment (which is sort of like a divorce that is recognized by the church) otherwise someone was going to end up dead. They've been apart for about 20 years now.
Hopefully she is doing well. And he either got help or was punished.
@@mjjoe76 he has since remarried a number of times. One of his other previous wives had "survived the husband from hell" in her bio so unfortunately I don't think he has improved and has managed to not get in trouble even though he refused to pay child support, among other things. My aunt is doing a bit better though.
Your aunt clearly didn’t understand Church teaching. The Church permits divorce as it has no say in the matter, it’s a civil issue. An annulment invalidates the marriage by saying there was never any marriage to begin with. This means your aunt can remarry in the Church as she was never married in the first place. Just because your aunt is ignorant doesn’t mean the Church is to blame for her circumstances.
@@emiliawisniewski3947 The church is definitely to blame for it. Even if it isn't in the bible it's still what is being taught in many denominations. The fact that they suggested to her to annul instead suggest that their are indeed teaching that you shouldn't divorce.
I checked and what the bible says is that even if you divorce you're still bound until death so marrying someone else would be adultery, and the way it is phrased I can see why it would be misunderstood as "you can't divorce". So you are right in that the bible doesn't say you can't divorce, but you are wrong in saying that it's what is being taught.
Here's few references for anyone curious:
- Mark 10:2-12
- Luke 16:18
- Corinthians 7:39
- Deuteronomy 22:19
As for that annulment thing, it just sound like some kind of loophole christians invented to "divorce" anyway for these kind scenario but still be faithful to the teachings. Do you have a reference in the bible about that? I find it highly dubious that one could cancel "what God has joined together" mark 10:9
I think annulment comes from the times when marriage was an economic arragement. And its to stop families 'selling' their daughters to impotent men and therefore no babies to secure the deal. My guess anyway.@@drinjj

I'm American and free healthcare in other countries is something we can't concieve of. A lot of people don't get help because therapy costs around $160 an hour if you don't have insurance. I feel this is a huge contributing factor in American suicide rates. Going to the hospital ER will be thousands of dollars and thats only for a few hours.

Femboys boyfriends with maid outfits and cat ears are the best!!!!!😊
Where can I get those? Asking for a friend...
As a 40 year old, white, biologically male person who was in a 7 year abusive marriage with my at the time wife can say that I was raised a devout Catholic and it was that Catholic mentality of “no divorce” that made me stay with her despite the fact that I couldn’t show any emotional or physical distress because “that’s how a man should be”. I got extremely lucky because she felt I was never going to push myself enough to make enough to allow her to be a stay at home wife and divorced me. To hear these people say the opposite is true and “if you’re married, you’re shit out of luck” is infuriating.
I'm a 59 year old white American man. I've had only one girlfriend in my life and -credit it or no -I am still a virgin. (I'm VERY shy around women and morbidly afraid of romance.) If I were to have a relationship, I would specifically SEEK OUT a feminist. As far as suicide, I am manic-depressive. The four times I went through with suicide (and of course failed) two were trying to starve to death and two were poison. As far as Catholics are concerned, if a Catholic says "x" is so, I would deliberately avoid "x" simply because it was said by a Catholic. I was raised fundamentalist Mormon. I am now atheist. To me, any idea coming from religion has a high chance of being wrong. God can f*ck Himself for all I'm concerned (assuming there is such a being).
I too recently deconverted after a lifetime of belief; welcome to the world of reason.
That sounds like an awful experience. I do hope you manage to overcome your fears and traumas, and that you're able to live a better life for the shift in beliefs.
@@Neil-iu2sq Very true. Religious person doesn't mean religion.
Though I want to add, that not even everything coming from a religion is wrong. Not only is a lot of it just how people interpret, or use, it in often very different times and cultural circumstances (and the Zeitgeist) that makes it wrong, there's also hundreds (if not more) of religions on this planet. Many people hear "religion" and think "abrahamic religions", but those by far aren't the only ones. And many others do get enough things right (or not too many wrong).
I'm an agnostic pagan. Or a paganistic agnostic? xD Whatever, I think most importantly is to keep in mind that we don't KNOW everything that's out there, but we do know many facts still. Which people thousands of years back didn't and couldn't have known. So, definitely don't take shit literally! And: People are making religions to what they are. It's people. They'd find a way to gain and then misuse power, no matter what they'd use to do so.
Bonu: People that grew up in very strictly religious (especially certain religions) households often tend to hate religion and religious people, because of their own, bad, experiences. Which is especially present in the US, where insanely religious people are common and the religions often would be considered cult like elsewhere.
In other places and with other people, that probably wouldn't be an issue. For example, most Christians I know don't go to church. And not a single one doubts the evolution (though some think a godly spirit initiated and/or guided it, which I find fair. Especially since we don't know if that couldn't be the case).
We are in the same boat I see, hopefully u recover
I do not outright hate religions or religious people. Many religious folks are quite nice, at least until their religion is called into question. While I cannot say I "hate" religion, I do believe it is the worst concept ever to come from the minds of men. It is more disdain than hate.
When you say, “he’s not conventionally attractive” you expect like a regular person. I didn’t expect someone so creepy I felt a need to cover my drink while watching.
when it comes to suicide in men, I think there's an important piece of the equation that is left out of the emotional suppression and toxic gender role aspect: it's that the expectations of men, to be strong, stoic, aggressive, to fight and assert dominance, to be okay with the bare minimum and just accept the nature of the world as being unkind and unfair and you just have to suck it up, and if you aren't succeeding it's because of something about you rather than the system we are a part of, etc., means that if you fail to do these you will experience suffocating shame. you feel as if you are an absolute failure. they live in a world where their purpose and the things they were taught to aspire to are completely out of reach, plus face abuse from other men for not living up to those standards.
Another thing is that at least in the US more women attempt to commit suicide than men but men use more lethal methods resulting in more deaths.
in my experience, feminists are proud of boyfriends or husbands or partners who can cry when tragedy strikes. it's an appropriate response and not shameful.
@@margaretjohnson6259 of course! I'm curious, did something I say sound as if would disagree with that? I am a staunch intersectional feminist for sure haha.
@@margaretjohnson6259 I would say the gist of my comment is that to a large extent toxic gender roles, coercion, threat of violence from enforcers of patriarchy, and shame to meet some standard are what lead to so many men commiting suicide. (And that those causes are not due to feminism)

@spaceboy.digital everything is weird. Open your heart to chaos.
You know what blows my mind the most? The fact that even in this issue, where the #1 cause of death for men in the US aged 25-40 is suicide, a topic that is receiving an incredible amount of research, and has been linked to a huge list of systemic issues like the unprecedented rise in loneliness among men, the known increase in men who report having no close friends, the wave of extreme homophobia after the AIDS epidemic that prevents men from hugging one another or opening up AT ALL, let alone (god forbid) asking for HELP with something... even in this topic, it can't be MEN'S fault. No no no, it's not that men are self-inflicted victims of their own toxic patriarchy, a societal system that burdens ALL of us with awful garbage. No, we're blameless. It's not the SYSTEM that's wrong. It's the WOMEN who are trying to tell you that the system is wrong. That's why you're unhappy. It's not YOUR fault. It's HER fault.
That is some unbelievably toxic shit. Holy moly. What a horrible ideology this guy subscribes to.
Those who deny others their humanity will lose their own.
Yup. You said it O.P.

You are completely right about these types that have a very specific “path to happiness” that they think applies to everyone across the board. As an introvert I’ve had people my whole life trying to get me act more “loud”, “confident” and “put myself out there”, but it’s just not my nature, and I would get very depressed trying to be a way I’m not, and being told my way is “bad”. I’m much happier in my natural way of being a “lonely hermit” lol ❤😂
We all balance each other out. Imagine if everyone was loud and extroverted?
That problem is very pronounced in the US, where people are brought up to think that being a bubbly, over-the-top extrovert is the only way to become popular or successful in life. It's especially apparent in the school system where, ironically, stupid jocks and vapid cheerleaders are praised and popular and get scholarships while bookworms (who are actually learning something at school and who will go on to actively make the world a better place) are made to feel "less than."

I work at a job where I interact with a lot of high schoolers, and they’re constantly busy with activities and/or jobs to prove they are “well-rounded” I guess. As an introvert many moons ago, I joined activities I liked, but it was a small number (and less academically minded) compared to my peers of equal grades/standardized test scores. You have to prove you can do lots of things AND still keep good grades to get the premium smart kid scholarships.
because i'm an introvert (was married for 40 years till he decided to be dead) and people come to realize when they have problems they can come to me for help. i don't advise them, per se, but guide them to alternate takes.
some people want an accessory to their life, while others prefer to share life with another.

Well we all know how dangerous reading is, you learn about other cultures and you might question authority in your own life.
Imagine feeling like deleting yourself JUST BECAUSE you are unable to CONTROL every aspect of your gf/wife

If a woman isn't a feminist, she isn't likely to be my partner.
Since I am Black, I
am thankful I am not included in this mess. Watching this reassures me that I made the right decision leaving Catholicism.
I told my two daughters when they have to submit to their partner. That they should dump that bastard as soon as possible and that I will support them in every way.
A note about suicide rates: from what I understand, globally women ATTEMPT suicide more than men do but men SUCCEED more than women do.
Firearms, particularly those in the USA, make suicide that much easier, which is why firearm ownership is correlated with higher suicide rates; this is due to the relatively short period of suicidal ideation, and if a method can be found, at hand, that is fast and effective, it results in higher successful suicides.
Trying to kill oneself with poisoning, cutting, etc. are painful but slower methods that give someone a chance to 'back off' from the attempt (a comment I've heard from folks talking about jumping from bridges, that once they're in freefall, they regret jumping, but they can't 'back off' any longer).
I mean for a one-night stand I could pretend that I'm not a feminist but would not have a rElAtIoNsHiP with those guys so don't worry boys you are safe 😂
Your choice, but sleeping with anti-feminist men opens you up to a greater risk of violence. These are the men who don't believe consent can be rescinded. These are the men who will "stealth" you, putting you at risk of pregnancy and STIs.
Then again, plenty of them pretend to be feminists and still commit assault and rape. (Or worse, they justify it to themselves somehow and really believe they are feminists.) So idk.
feminist girlfriends hide from you, not hide for you. your gaze is social death.
this poor man... someone get him out of the bizarro world and into our reality back.

Addressing the suicide issue in male America. Just my personal opinion part of it comes from the ideas of being a man and failing to reach them. I struggled with these ideas and still do today.
It's saddening to see the suicide rates among everyone. The LGBTQ in particular.
Hopefully Emma got in some video game therapy after this one
Yeah. 15 years old of suicidal ideation before i finally realized religion is a scam. Accepting being gay has been the best decision of my life.

I've known a lot of feminists in my lifetime, my mother first among them. In all these years, I've never know one of them to be bashful about being a feminist.
Thank you Emma for another great video. Glad your channel was recommended to me recently. I was raised in a super Catholic family and it still just blows my mind that my sister, mother, and other female relatives allow themselves to be denigrated and treated as 2nd class humans by this disgusting cult.
Hi Emma. I like you. The way you point out the absurdities in this world is very entertaining. And you remind me of my daughter. She told me for years that she wanted to relocate to Oregon because she thought her lifestyle would be more acceptable there. One day she took off and drove 2500 miles to be somewhere better. She is an optometrist in Salam,Oregon now and happier than she's ever been 😊l'm very proud of her.
Fun fact: Tim’s brother sued Steph for plagiarism for her “Ask your husband” book
Oh that's hilarious! Get thee to the confessional, lazy strumpet.
I would prefer a girlfriend who is an open feminist, why would you keep that secret?
In my opinion, if you enjoy a relationship that aligns with normal gender roles; cool. It’s when you decide that I’m going to hell cause I think that my husband and I should both have say in our lives and lifestyle - that’s when these people overstep.
"It's November, and you know what that means..."

I just feel sorry for people brought up in any extreme religious environment. They get brought up with such a narrow world view. So much they see must contradict their expectations, yet they have to process it and it ends up in a weird cognitive dissonance 😔
It's been a day or two since I watched this, and your "hiding feminist" evil laugh is still stuck in my head. Kudos.

12:24 Catholicism says you can't get a divorce and remarry.
Doesn't say that you can never under any circumstances move away and stay single because you can't live with your husband or wife.
Obviously, no such rules about GF / BF, so the advice of breaking up _at this stage_ is actually very sound Catholic advice.
That's what they do in the Philippines
I love the term "Ghoulfriend"
Imagine a world where every potential partner is honest with you and you return the favor... that if incompatibilities are discovered, that the relationship (or potential one thereof) can be discarded with no hard feelings on either side at any time. Imagine, also, that whatever one's preferred relationship, others OUTSIDE that relationship have the respect and fortitude to not judge said relationship. Of course, we are all humans, and humans are emotionally fragile beings that can't seem to not try to project their personal issues onto others. Be honest, both with others, and especially with ourselves!
We should all just be excellent to each other.
...onision reference? 😂
@@itsbuggers It's sad that you think a Bill and Ted reference is a reference to Onion-Boy
Its weird how lately social media has been drumming feminism back TWENTY years, while legislators are pushing it back FORTY.
Emma, I'm feeling very abused that you didn't thank me enough for watching this video.

They're stuck in a mindset that hasn't made sense since about 1970. If you are in a partnership, sharing a home, then X amount of things need to be done to make that successful. Income, maintenance, general housekeeping, errands, etc. So long as it all gets done efficiently, it doesn't make a bit of difference who does what. This old-fashioned idea that men should be responsible for A, B and C and women for X, Y, and Z is not only outdated but has become inefficient.
WTF! You didn't let them explain to me the ten things i should be looking out for! Bad form Emma. I hope you'll have a part two to this video since i absolutely loved your reactions to the their propaganda:)
I know it's on brand, but the fact that she was labled Mrs. Man's Name on her own book gave me the skeeves.

A lot of these guys just want to be lazy. If they really wanted to go with the subservient wife model, well, now that they have a slave they should be out accomplishing great things. You don't have to worry about the chores. That doesn't mean you get to watch sports. You should be outside building a gazebo. Painting the house. Tilling the garden. If these women were smart they'd delineate what was manly and womanly right off the bat. I've got cooking, cleaning, laundry. Every last little thing, from carrying in the groceries to taking out the trash, is the man's job. I'd just be sitting around all day saying "No, that's a man's job. You have to do it. Or do you not want a feminine wife?"
Facts! They want a combo slave and manager. I like how you think. Women def need to take their power of negotiation back.
That mullet is serious business.
I love your hoodie. I've been trying to incorporate a little more style into my wardrobe, but as a man its harder to find colorful and visually interesting clothing. I was mesmerized by the ribbon mostly.

The _only_ reason I can comprehend a woman saying feminism is _bad_ is if they've been _horribly_ misinformed on what feminism is!
That woman is severely traumatized, She is very likely a battered woman. I do know a thing or two about this. I ended up working with a woman I had managed in a restaurant in the 70s. She was a waitress briefly but her husband made her quit. He was raging abuser. She was still married to him and a wreck 20 yrs later. They are Catholic. I saw much abuse when I was a restaurant manager. One reason you should be nice to wait staff. Most have a rough life. I have a Psychology school background though I worked as computer "genius".
