  • Here's my hack to get both a Micro-HDMI and USB-C cable to fit in your X100V at the same time. It involves shaving down each cable just a smidge so that they can fit next to each other. Here are the cables I'm using:
    Left Angle Micro-HDMI Cable: amzn.to/2RhiBZO
    USB-C Cable: amzn.to/2Rgk2YB
    Camera stuff:
    Fujifilm X100V: amzn.to/2V9I8oP
    Lenshood: squarehood.se/...
    Shutter button: amzn.to/2VorXV9

    Clever hack! I've had to do this on some chargers that don't fit through the opening in a phone case! Nice workaround for the X100V!

    Cool! Do you use the USB-C for power supply or audio? Can you charge via USB-C while the camera records video (via HDMI)?

      I use the USB-C for power. I have an external recorder (Atamos Ninja V) that I can use for audio monitoring if needed! And yep, I can power the camera and record via HDMI out at the same time, it's great!

    Question regarding clean HDMI and autofocus: can the camera output clean HDMI and do continuous autofocus? I have gotten fond of using a nice camera for a "webcam", and had sold my X100F because it couldn't do what I needed. If the X100V can output clean HDMI, run of usb-c power, while doing autofocus, that would be quite nice!

      It sure can! I've been using the X100V and my XT-4 as a webcam now that everything is an online meeting. They both do a good job of constant autofocus (the focus switch set to C) with face detection. Fuji recently released a plugin that's supposed to allow you to plug the USB-C cable into your computer and it automatically shows up as a webcam video stream. I couldn't get it to work when I tried it on my Mac, but I've been using an Atem Mini which can take 4 HDMI inputs and separate mics, allows cutting and mixing between the inputs and has it's own USB-C out which shows up as a webcam. Highly recommended!

    Maybe shave off both sides of the usb c cable.

    Poor design! How on earth did they not realise those ports were too close?

    Hi Rob, how do you keep the camera powered on and continue to function while charging via USB at the same time? I use an X100F (guess this feature must be similar across F and V) and the camera shuts off as soon as I plug in USB to charge while intending to record via hdmi at the same time. I see that you could do that. Can you help me understand how. Thanks much.

      I think I read somewhere that if you have your USB port set for data transfer that it won't charge at the same time? You could check that in the Connection Setting menu.

    Hi, you are using the X100V as a webcam but do you know if the X100T would work too? How do you connect it to your Macbook? Thanks

      I've installed the Fuji software that's supposed to enable the webcam support but I've never got it to work on my Mac. :( I've been using an Atem Mini to turn the HDMI out on the camera into a USB-C webcam and that's been working great. Plus you get 3 more HDMI inputs, two microphones, green screen keying, all kinds of stuff: amzn.to/2J9fJgP

    How do I get this specific camera to do USB tethering? When I connect it to my Weebill S steady cam the screen goes black and just says USB. I'd appreciate the help. Been looking for a solution for a while

      I actually can't get the Fujifilm Webcam software to work for me on my Mac, either. :( I've been using the HDMI output connected to an Atem Mini, which takes up to 4 HDMI inputs and outputs them over a single USB-C cable that shows as a webcam on the computer: amzn.to/2J9fJgP

    Thanks for this video! Does the x100v have clean HDMI / can you use it with external recorders?

    • @cannikinn
      @cannikinn  4 года назад

      Sure does, I use it with an Atamos Ninja V and it works great. I have noticed that if I hook up an external microphone and go into the X100V the audio has some weird volume issues where it drops way down every few seconds, seemingly randomly. If I hook up the external mic right into the Ninja everything is great.

      @@cannikinn Awesome! Have you ran into any overheating issues with longer recordings on the x100v (when used with the Ninja)?

      @@BassICLeh I ran a test today just watching it to see how long the battery would last at 4k from HDMI and it ran for about 1 hour 15 minutes before the battery went. Waiting for my coupler to come in, but if you just output and not write to the card, you can go as long as you have power. It was warm, but did not get close to overheating. Ordered the coupler before seeing this video though. O well. Does the USB-C charger charge fast enough? i.e. provide enough power to keep the camera going while doing video?

      @@sangkong9738 any tips on how you got it stay recording? despite being connected, and despite simply outputting and not recording to SD, it keeps shutting down on me. I saw there was a yellow temperature warning on the screen but sounds like you aren't having that issue.

      Shiv Rao I’m not convinced it was running at 4K anymore. I can get it to run longer in 4K when I switch out the battery with a coupler and also do things like flip the screen out. Also I turn off continuous AF. There is a recent firmware update that helps stay on longer despite the heat but still safely. Also I was able to use a Mac usbc charging cable and it is very skinny. No need to shave away another cable. Anyway, charging the battery will cause too much heat. Also try a portable fan. It will work too. Internal mic is useless but I don’t use it. The body just can’t dissipate heat. Ultimately I decided to just go 1080p. 4K was overkill.

    Ido you think is it possible to connect headphones to HDMI output camera ? Using an adapter HDMI to usb C ? I bought the canon 77D but it doesn't have headphones output but I had that idea but I am not sure if is possible or what kind of adapter do I need to buy !?

    • @cannikinn
      @cannikinn  4 года назад

      You should be able to do it with something like this (although I've never tried): amzn.to/2GgnKPC Plug in HDMI and extracts the audio stream to both an optical output and analog L/R output!

    • @cannikinn
      @cannikinn  4 года назад

      Does the Canon have a USB-C port? A lot of cameras are starting to use that for headphone output.

    I've run into the same issue and solved it the same way. It's disappointing that Fuji doesn't have a fix for this (and even let this out in the first place). Didn't anyone test it? Blah.
