As a dad (and a son), I know there are a lot of important legacies and traditions we can pass on to the next generation(s). An appreciation for great music is definitely one of them. It's a performance. All that garbage about this being a bunch of damaged souls expressing the poetry of their pain is hogwash. You honestly believe that it just so happens that someone who was broken up with at the age of 16 was so emotionally distraught that he turned into a good-looking singer and songwriter? Which, any vocal coach will tell you, Eddie is 100% a professionally trained singer, and has been for as long as he's been appearing before a microphone. It's no coincidence that every time he performs this "painful" song, he hits the same whimpers, the same vocal fry, the same head singing, the same pure tones, the same falsettos at exactly the same moments EVERY SINGLE TIME HE DOES IT. That's because it's rehearsed, along with the emotional drive. That's all grunge was: the studios manufacturing the new movement. He was 27-28 years old when he started making the major stages with this song; do you honestly buy that the pain of a crush ending when he was 16 still sticks with him? Especially after writing it, rehearsing it, changing it, rehearsing it some more, recording it, editing it, producing it, listening to it a thousand times and performing it in front of strangers thousands more times? No, anybody would be desensitized to the effects of a freaking high school puppy-love relationship. "But...but Eddie is a manic-depressive!" Yeah, which means it's even less likely it ever affected him that bad to begin with. It's a performance. He's a performer. No average Joe who gets dumped in high school could have pulled this off like he did; because that's not what he was.
Eveybody singing along, jumping, sweating, moshing. Everybody living the fucking moment and feeling the music. Nobody filming with their "smart"phones! Fuuuuck! Great times!

Not sure where or when this show took place but the first time i saw Pearl Jam was in 1992. I was 21yrs old at Lollapalooza at Molson Park in Barrie Ontario Canada. I never get tired of the music from that era because it was so great and i feel fortunate to have experienced so much of it. Pearl Jam was amazing that day and for anyone who was there you'll remember Eddie Vedder climbing the scaffolding and running across the tarp or Sound Garden also playing a set at that show. I'm old now but i'll never forget how this music got me through ups and downs in my life. I'll always have fond memories some bittersweet but most just joyful. I think i'll break out the cut off combat pants and docs and a flannel just for old time sake.

I'm more conservative, but I would feel the exact same if a band got up and started spouting conservative political points (though a conservative group would be a fairly rare breed). We are bombarded with politics every day, and are so divided as a country, that IMO music like this should be an time when we put all that stuff aside and come together to simply enjoy mind blowing music and lyrics. Don't ruin the amazing communal experience a great concert can be.

Not sure where or when this show took place but the first time i saw Pearl Jam was in 1992. I was 21yrs old at Lollapalooza at Molson Park in Barrie Ontario Canada. I never get tired of the music from that era because it was so great and i feel fortunate to have experienced so much of it. Pearl Jam was amazing that day and for anyone who was there you'll remember Eddie Vedder climbing the scaffolding and running across the tarp or Sound Garden also playing a set at that show. I'm old now but i'll never forget how this music got me through ups and downs in my life. I'll always have fond memories some bittersweet but most just joyful. I think i'll break out the cut off combat pants and docs and a flannel just for old time sake.

Vettoid, No none of their songs do. But at some of their concerts, he goes on a bit much about Politics before they start playing. The bands great I just do not like the politics views before their concert starts
+Gary Bond agree. I'm more conservative, but I would feel the exact same if a band got up and started spouting conservative political points (though a conservative group would be a fairly rare breed). We are bombarded with politics every day, and are so divided as a country, that IMO music like this should be an time when we put all that stuff aside and come together to simply enjoy mind blowing music and lyrics. Don't ruin the amazing communal experience a great concert can be.
