    This song and “Ride” were on the radio virtually nonstop. So you probably heard it in the background while shopping or at a restaurant. It was EVERYWHERE! They even won a Grammy for it. They also did the big hit “Heathens” from Suicide Squad. Their sound is unique and they consistently switch up genres. Tyler’s pen game and flow are top tier. My favorite line is “Out of student loans and treehouse homes, we all would take the latter/ladder.” They captured nostalgia so well.
    TØP is a duo out of Columbus, OH. Tyler Joseph is the lead singer, songwriter, makes their beats, does most of their production, and plays keys/synth, bass, ukulele, and added electric guitar in their most recent album. Josh Dun is a beast on the drums and also plays trumpet. I think it’s cool that they’ve stayed loyal to their hometown. Tyler does most of the writing/recording from his home studio(s). And their live shows are unreal! That’s where they built their core fanbase.
    You should check out “Lane Boy,” “Car Radio,” “Holding Onto You,” “Ode to Sleep,” “Migraine,” and “Heavydirtysoul.”
    Usually people do the TOP rabbit hole first and then Ren 🕳️🐇 but either way, they are both wild rides!!

      As a Dane I hate it when bands, movies and other projects take our Danish letter "Ø" and use it as substitute for an "O"....
      To me it feels like they use a wrong letter with a totally different sound and it sticks out like a spelling error...
      It is borderline cultural appropriation! LOL

    • @SurelyLocksHolme
      @SurelyLocksHolme Год назад +1

      I thought it was because One is a number, so instead of just being an O, it’s almost like a zero, which arguably is a number. Idk what the actual meaning of that letter is in your language though, so I want to look into it to learn. @@JokerInk-CustomBuilds

    • @GarnetJ
      @GarnetJ Год назад +7

      @@JokerInk-CustomBuilds their use of Ø is tied to Nicolas Bourbaki, the group of mathematicians that invented the notation for the empty set Ø. So I don’t believe it has anything to do with the Danish language.

    • @JokerInk-CustomBuilds
      @JokerInk-CustomBuilds Год назад +1

      @@SurelyLocksHolme That might also be the case. I honestly don't know why they did it... it is just something I have seen many do wich strikes me as odd if they have no connection to Denmark or Norway who actually use those letters in our nordic alphabet.... We have 3 additional letters to the latin alphabet: Æ, Ø and Å
      they sound like the E-sound in Best, the U-sound in Hurdle and the O-Sound in Only....
      -My last name is Sørensen wich translates into Son of Søren... just like Hansen, Petersen, Olsen etc... Sons of Hans, Peter and Ole... :)

    The name Twenty One Pilots was taken from a play by Arthur Miller called All My Sons. It's about a man who commits suicide after causing the death of twenty one pilots during World War II because he knowingly sent them faulty parts for the good of his business.

      “In All My Sons, Joe Keller's factory produces faulty airplane parts whose defects result in the deaths of twenty one pilots in World War II. Keller has the chance to intervene and stop the parts from shipping to the military, but chooses to do nothing until it's too late.”
      Tyler (the lead singer) was inspired by the moral crossroad moment: "I feel like we are all constantly encountering moral crossroads where the decisions that benefit the 'now' will have consequences down the road; but the decision that might seem tough and tolling right away will ultimately be more rewarding.”
      “What is our purpose for playing music? We are constantly asking ourselves that question. The answer can change all the time. Right now I am just going to stick with something as simple as ‘we want to make people think.”

    This song introduces the character of Blurryface, which you see in the pitched down vocal and red eyes. It’s also the reason for the black paint Tyler wears on his throat and his hands, representing the insecurities and anxiety over what he creates (throat = his voice and his singing / hands = what he writes and performs). Blurryface has a suffocating control over him, but Tyler uses his music to fight against Blurryface.
    Twenty one pilots uses a lot of symbolism and Tyler created lore that is a narrative that crosses over multiple albums. The album Blurryface that their two big hits Stressed Out and Ride come from, is a character study … creating a personification of the aspects of himself that he wants to fight against. The next album Trench is a concept album going deeper into who Blurryface is and the control he has over him. The next album will conclude the storyline.
    They tackle many different aspects of mental health, but often pair it with uplifting music and infectious beats. It’s a journey worth checking out. It’s a fun ride! 😼

    BP I would recommend Ode To Sleep as the official video gives a little insight into how they started and where they got to. Also showcases the way they mix things up, they make their own tunes, and have some proper bars not just spiting but bars on certain tracks. I think you'll be pretty impressed in either case.
    Also a side note: going down this hole will be good for the channel, the 21 pilot fans are proper fanatics. They cultivate this with an over arching lore to their music/albiums. As you'll probably already see they are trying to explain every little thing about them.
    Other side note: I really like 'car radio' but you really need to peep the lyrics on it, don't let them go over your head.

    It's just 2 of them in the band, the drummer 'josh' and the vocalist 'Tyler' who is also a multi instrumentalist. They also produce and direct.
    I'm really glad you reacted to this band and I think they might be a staple on your podcast as they have a rather large back catalogue of songs and they have never done a bad song.

Just WATCH what will happen to your channel if you devote some time to the world of TØP! The fan base is insane and we search for these videos! Been a subscriber for a while and I promise you I’m not steering you wrong. He raps and sings a lot! One of his best raps is LEVITATE but it’s part of the lore that needs to be done in order. We will guide and explain. Blurryface that he sings in this song is part of the lore.

    I remember my first trip down the twenty one pilots rabbit hole and it was one of the best deep dives I ever done. Such a unique band with lots of genre bending songs that just works because of Tyler’s genius. I’d love you to react to Migraine the live room version. It’s so so good and you get to hear all of Tyler’s vocal range.

    You’re in for a real treat with 21 Pilots. Check out Heathens, Chlorine, Ride, and The Outside from them. I’m an early 80s baby that loves the old school stuff but I really appreciate these amazing artists you react to like Ren and NF too.

    I think you would like “Doubt”, “Polarize”, “Car Radio”, “Guns for Hands.” But there are so many more to choose. Can’t really go wrong. If some of it sounds familiar it’s because you likely did indeed hear it at Chipotle or somewhere out and about. They are one of the most successful bands of the last 10 or so years. Many radio hits, they have been nominated for 5 Grammys, and seemingly each year they have another hit or two hit the top of the charts. But through all of that, they don’t complete give into the pop/radio friendly sound. They have their own thing and it’s very creative. Also, both the band members are Christian, but have chosen not to be classified as a Christian band, so as not to close themselves off to a much broader fan base. They also grapple a lot with their faith, and choose to try to uplift rather then being down.

    The complete experience Tyler provides in creating Twentyone Pilots music and the immersive world behind it can't be explained in 1 comment. It's a journey you need to start at the beginning years ago. It's a journey you will never regret taking though. He's a genuis. Ren level.

    'Levitate' and 'Heavydirtysoul' are some of his best rapping, if you want to hear more that side of their music.
    They can do any genre they want to do and don't really fit into boxes, but if I'm asked to describe their music, I usually say it's "mostly alternative hiphop and indie rock, but that's just scratching the surface, because they do everything".
