They are worth every single view. Amazing live..the lore is phenomenal..they do a live version of this song with Stranger Things morphed in. They have no genre, but you recognize them immediately.

Tyler was asked to write a song for Suicide Squad after they had gained lots of new fans following the release of their album blurryface. He said he imagined he was bringing a friend to meet the 'villains' of the movie and how he would prepare his friend for the meeting. He also wrote it to explain to the mainstream audience about the 'clique', their fans, to explain that they are worth listening to, they have dealt with a lot, but to tread lightly around them because they are powerful and passionate.
LOL totally agree...I could imagine Josh as a type of familiar and Tyler as a kind of pied piper in the Superhero context...talk about an OP power...just being able to use music to turn the worst or the best person into a dancing fool...if you can tap out a beat, you can control anyone...and if you are alive, you have a heartbeat...which would make the user basically able to control anyone...

It's black paint on Tyler's hands and neck rather than a tattoo and yes it is a visual representation of his insecurities. It was used during the Blurryface era, Blurryface being the personification of those insecurities. So, the black paint is a way of representing Blurryface's presence and hold on his life. Tyler said in interviews that his insecurites feel suffocating, hence the black neck. And that an aspect of his insecurities is putting his music out into the world to be judged, hence the black hands, that he makes music with. It's very much a symbolic thing.
I’m a 66 year old grandma that started listening to them back in 2015 because by grandson shared my iTunes account and now I just love them. My grandson has seen them twice now in concert and said you really can’t explain how amazing they are. I can’t really tell you what type they are (rap, pop, alternative, whatever) but they are great storytellers and very talented young guys!!!

Yes, Ren and TOP are master genre benders with a strong message as a foundation. Their most recent album Scaled and Icy has some great songs, but the videos will be confusing unless you learn about the lore. So I would watch in this order: Heavydirtysoul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners, Levitate, Saturday, and The Outside. That crosses 3 albums and the next album will conclude the storyline.
And it’s not a tattoo on his neck and hands, it’s black paint that represents his fears, insecurities, anxieties. It’s a representation of Blurryface and the control that he has over what Tyler creates. The Jumpsuit video shows it.
Please check out Fever 333. They combine rap and metal in their songs. I love their songs Bite Back, Made in America, Burn It….just to name a few lol

The tattoos represent his anxieties and personal demons, basically the bad side that Ren portrayed so well in 'Hi ren'. Tyler struggled a lot with his confidence. That part of himself, he calls blurry face as it is always in his periphery.

As far as the movie, it had some dope parts, my son was like 10 when it came out and it was his favorite because he loved TØP and hero movies.
when suicide squad approached them about doing the lead song for the movie, Tyler said he would only make the song if it makes sense to his fans - he wasn't going to make a song just about the movie
this song is really about the twenty one pilots fanbase - it's sort of a warning to the new fans who just hopped on board after they put out two huge hits
tyler presented this song to suicide squad expecting them not to want it and so he would just put it on their next album - but suicide squad hopped on it - it works within the context of the movie as well so worked out for everybody (and it was a huge hit)

It’s more genre mixing than genre bending but I love Wargasm - RMR featured on a bluegrass track… which made no sense to me until i heard it lol. The official video (by Billy Strings/RMR) is so well made too and the lyrics are so good.

I’m sure it’s been explained already but Tyler was asked to write a song for this but basically said ok I will write a song that still suits myself & the fans & that is true to tøp, if you like it use it. I love that. There are interviews out there wher they explain that both are self taught musicians, they never learnt how to properly make music so they create what they feel & do not follow the rules of song writing- I think this plays a big part in their style. Also they don’t talk about influences in particular bands in general but moreover songs that appeal to them. I think Lane Boy would be a really good next reaction for you- you will get the message in it easily & understand where they are coming from a bit more from that song
Twenty Øne Piløts has been one of my all-time favorite bands and If you're just getting into them, I recommend checking out Jumpsuit next

Twenty One Pilots are still making music, but we're between album cycles and hoping for new music in 2024.
You've been listening to songs from Blurryface album (2015) erw, and Heathens also fits into this era.
In 2018 they released Trench, which is phenomenal and their most critically acclaimed album. In 2020 they released the single Level of Concern, and in 2021 Scaled and Icy. These were quarantine era songs, so Tyler was careful to keep them sonically bright, to not reflect the darkness of our world.
We definitely want you to react to their newer music, but there's a story being told (the lore), and so first you need to know them. That's why we want you to start with some of the older stuff.

This is a fun fact that I haven't seen anyone say in the comments but that song that says boys are back in town always reminds me of top concerts. That song have always played at the very end of the concerts when everyone is leaving. I don't know if they play it on all the concerts, because I don't remember much but I do know the Ohio concerts always play that song.

Their newest album was in 2021 - they just wrapped up touring so people think they'll probably drop a new album by end of 2023
I think as more music is discovered via streaming platforms than local radio stations, genre has become less important. You used to have to fit into a box to get play from a particular radio station that catered to specific genres in order to get exposure. That's sorta faded away and I think it's allowed more creative and less defined musical artists that enjoy all sorts of music and want to make music they themselves would want to listen to.

If you want a newer song, check out "Redecorate". I cried the first time I heard it but it's one of me favorite songs off their latest album. The Outside is also super catchy...but you don't know the lore yet so I wouldn't watch the music video if I were you just a lyrics video until you've gotten caught up in the lore

Twenty One Pilot is a great band, they got a lot of great songs! As for the movie, there was some elements and a couple characters that i liked but there was also a lot that fell flat or was straight up bad.
