Our 9.6.4 home theater is matched, love it. I have a 5.1.2 system in the TV room. Even that small system sounds better after I got matching height speakers.

Using 5 of them as height, surrond and center speakers : coupled with Aria 948 (all flax drivers), this is the perfect set-up !
Ayyyy!! That’s great to hear! I’ve always wanted to experience the Aria 948 but they were too big for my space. I had the Aria 926 for a while and loved those. Having your Atmos speaker drivers made of the same materials really does make a world of difference. Now every speaker is matched!
Hi! I also have the 948 but only as a stereo system with a svs sb-1000 pro. I was thinking to create a system for movies too, with dolby atmos and everything, but I’m not sure what configuration to choose. I was also looking at the Marantz Cinema 50 as avr. Right bow I have only a preamp and a power amp from Pioneer, from the 90s, c/m 73. Amazing for music and hard to let go of them. I will appreciate any advices on creating a great system for movies too. Thank you!
One advantage with the Focal is your listening position is below the tweeter and woofer instead of above it when you angle it down. You'll get a better response there. Notice with the SVS, when you angle it down, you have to put the speaker upside-down so you're above the tweeter and woofer.

It’s easy to make wood adapters for any angle you want for those svs speakers. You already have the bracket. Just make an angled piece of wood for behind it for the right angle.
You can even just use washers to adjust the angle behind the bracket very easily.
They would be perfect for me as cieling speakers/atmos. Only minus is they are expensive
I'm using the Klipsch Atmos RP-500SA speaker for front heights, and the RP-140SA for rear height. Similar to you previous SVS height speakers. I found a bracket that holds them nicely, and you can angle them anyway you like. I would post a photo, but I can't seem to do that here. The brackets were like $25 or less for a pair on Amazon.

For Atmos speakers, it seems brackets should be common sense after watching this vid. I wish my RP-500sa had that more practical design and size like the Focals, though. I'm also curious to what bracket you got at Amazon, Jack Booker.

i'm using SVS Prime Satellite Speakers with swivel bracket. same like Focal Dome Flax 1.0 can adjust the angle.

Higher frequency range? How so? When room calibration is done they are almost identical, so that's a non issue. It's also better that the tweeter is above the midrange as opposed to below...
I just installed 6 KEF Egg Speakers I had to find on ebay (the 3001 SE series) and the concentric design works great for Atmos Speakers

Weight doesn't tell the story, but combined with the Focal name, you know it's going to sound right. And they do sound really nice for their size. The original Dome 5.1 Sub was a R2D2 shape and was a but underpowered for a decent size living room ( and was bouncing around sometimes ). This new Dome, with Flax woofers ( same material as my big Kanta no.3's ), AL/MG tweeters and an upgraded sub, will most probably kill it, and will sound great for music too.
I have a 9.2 focal dome setup with Marantz 6015 and it’s an awesome setup. Of course would love to get some better fronts like the Aria’s or even Utopia’s.

Hey TD, what did you think of the Polk R900 and how does it compare to these two Dome Flax & SVS Prime?
This sounded good, but the Focals sound better. Those also suffer from the tweeter being below as opposed to above.
I have 926 aria at the front, cc900 centre and 4 focal dome surrounds on stands...i have 2 monitor audio top fronts and 2 focal domes at the rear tops....with a rel S5 sub all powered by a denon avc6700h...absolutely amazing upgrade from a pioneer sclx59
$700/ea is definitely a bit steep but I’m not wanting to maybe toy around with this with some cheaper small speakers that can possibly be angled like this and wall mounted until I can afford much nicer ones. I have 2 SVS prime elevations for my front height and I believe they may be going slightly above my head as well and once they were up, they were just there I wasn’t going to start shifting it up and down and creating more holes to see if it was better. An adjustable speaker definitely is a great idea.
Yeah, it’s a tough thing Gucci. Gotta break out the ladder and then fix your mistakes, lol! Just find something that has an integrated mount for tour height channels.
In 2019 these focal dome flax speakers were $400. Focal raised all there prices in 2020.

4" woofers are for desktop use, for 50cm - 80cm. Even Wilfried said, in your video, that elevation speakers must be capable to perform correct 150hz. This performance is for 8" woofers. But OK, no les that 6,5". All your elevation speakers must be Aria 906 for correct reproduction for that distance.
Yes, he did say that, but…looking at the frequency response and measurements gathered from Anthem Room Correction, the Dome Flax is corrected to the proper target curve and has enough power to get down to 80 Hz. Hanging a full bookshelf speaker from the ceiling is a bit much…
@@TechnoDad Loudspeaker companies never said at what db level you will get peak performance per drive. They will reveal speaker's weaknesses. These infos you will find them only in some Pro studio monitors. For example this 4" woofer at 150hz for distances more than 80cm at reference levels will be full of distortion. It cannot and it's not bad design, it's just physics. It's a small woofer. They have small size to push air at these wavelengths. Ask Erin.

I have them crossed at 100, which was the same place I had the SVS crossed over.

Sure, but those are pretty huge! Almost 12" tall and 15 lbs, that would have to be a good install with a hefty adjustable mount.

Would these sound ok places on top of my Focal Aria 2K? Be easier than ceiling mounting. Was going to use for height speakers.
I upgraded my family room from a soundbar to Monitor Audio Silver 100 6G, C350 6G and SB3000. Trying to figure surrounds wonder how these would work? Tell you one thing that C350 is a beast of a center channel.

I’ve been looking for some new atmos speakers currently I have some kefs t100 I think it’s what they’re called for the rear and the svs heights for the front but they just aren’t as loud I watch my movies pretty loud and they start to distort with heavier bass scenes I have them crossed over at 90 and tried at 120 but it seems like the bass is still being played through them and is causing distortion maybe my denon 4400h is just broken
Great video. I run the Focal Sopra 1's as my 2 channel hi-fi speakers. Have been thinking of adding an atmos AVR and using pass through to keep the sopras as the L+R. These might be a good way to supplement. Would you recommend one of these as center or go with a different Focal center?
Been 11 months. Did you end up getting the AVR and pass through? What amp powers your Sopras? I’ve got Pioneer Atmos AVR(VSX LX 305), with Focal Chora 826’s L+R and Focal 301’s for Center and Rear Surrounds. Thinking about a dedicated power amp for 826’s and 2 or 4 ceiling speakers to add.
Do you think the upgrade is more the equipment or the way you were able angle them ... or both? lol asking for a friend that has been buying into the SVS system

I've just upgraded to Q Acoustics 3020is & 3010is for my fronts & rears respectively, the 3090Ci centre (I'm from the UK) and Q B12, so have no heights now (they were cheap Atmos-enabled before). I just watched your vid on the SVS Prime Elevation speakers and now you've upgraded to these. In the UK, they are selling for £249 each. Am I looking at the wrong ones? Are there different versions of the Dome Flaxs, or are they just more expensive in the US?
Hi! There are the Domes with a standard driver and a Flax Dome with a Flax driver like in this video, so be careful what you buy.
Techno dad have you tried the Polk OWM3’s for your atmos setup? I am thinking about trying them due to their utility and price point.
We have those at the place I work my night shift...I'm looking at them right now. Not bad. I would be worried about getting the right angle, but they should work.

Hey, i am just following your advice and set myself 5.1.4 using: Marantz 7015, with B&W 703 S2s, together with REL T9x, Monitor Audio FX Surround Speakers and 4 of them on ceiling are Focals, 3 flax and one non flax. It kinda makes me suffer one not all 4 are flax as i could not get one single flax anywhere here in London and decided since they are enclosed would not make much of difference. You would not be able to tell the difference in performance would you? Also, prior to this i had dolby atmos sounds but after installing this lot atmos is no longer there but Auro 3D is coming up, i can not explain this why my AVR refuses to show up Atmos on the screen, any suggestions would be most welcome. I have them on beams that run across my ceiling. I guess it would depend on how much angle you are trying to get from them.

Hi! No rotation left and right, but up and down. Think of it as a tilt.

Yes, it’s about versatility, but there is something to be said about the tweeter being above rather than below that makes if sound better.

Focal makes some entry level speakers called the Chora series.
If you watched any of the dreameida videos they have covered the Chora line.
Not to mention that the Focal chora center speaker is on of the best sounding 🤘

Hi! No, you'll need bare wire. There are two screws. I forget what it's called. You insert the bare wire and screw down the cable.

Yea brother I had the whole system when I did reviews for AVS and yep WAY better than the SVS BY FAR The Focal is almost like a concentric driver sine the tweeter is right on the mid. I love Focal. a Tad overkill for home theater though UNLESS you got alot of cash

Thanks for the review. I have focal chorus 800v speakers that sound great. Since I moved I can't use the back surrounds from the set since the wall configuration is funky. I've been thinking about getting a couple of these and using them for the back surrounds. They have the same tweeter, but the woofer is different, the 800v series uses Polyglass woofers. Do you think that will match OK with the flax woofers in these domes?

Focal makes a dome polyglass 1.0 speaker. Same tweeter same design just polyglass woofer. Also there alot cheaper.
Will this setup work svs sub., fronts and center. I was hoping to use another brand focals for ceilings.
What brand speakers do you have and what is your speaker configuration?
@Techno Dad l have a 5.1 for now. The sub. is svs pb1000pro, center is the svs ultra and the bookies are svs ultra as well. I got a pair of psb alpha's for my rear speakers. I'm saving up to replace the psb with svs prime bookies and not quite sure which svs speakers for my high's, which will consist of two pairs, so my system will endure being 5.1.4 oh and my receiver is a yamaha rx-v1400 oldie but goldie.
SVS has a pivoting wall bracket you can buy to aim their Atmos speakers now
But they don't sound as good, that's why he upgraded to Focal.

What are you talking about? SVS clearly discontinued this product. I can’t find a place to buy it second hand. So at one point SVS did, but clearly they didn’t believe in it.

Do i need a computer to play the atmos and dts-x demos? Or how does it work?
A 4K player should do the trick. Either the Sony X800M2 or the LG UBK90. The Atmos demos might play on the Panasonic but the DTS:X ones won’t.

They are from the blu ray but it’s an M2TS file. Some Patrons say the Atmos ones work but the DTS:X ones are 4K HDR and won’t work on the Panasonic players.

I got 4 x 300ICW6's for my 4 Atmos. Hopefully they will go well with my Aria 926's. Out of interest what crossover do you run on those. I've got mine running at 60Hz
Those are great in walls. If you mean the Aria 926, I have them running full range. They blend really well with my REL subs.

I had to go with all Focal bookshelf speakers with 2 in ceiling speakers for Atmos. What I can say is that the bookshelf speakers I got are an extreme upgrade from my old system!
And Paired with the Emotiva basx A7 they have now at thier potential 👌👍
Plus no disrespect towards your setup.

My height channels are crossed over at 100Hz. Both the SVS and Focal. Since Dolby recommends a crossover between 120 - 150Hz, studios mixing Atmos won’t put anything less than that in the upper height level.

Agreed! It's a handmade speaker. Most things handmade are going to be better quality and cost more. The angle does help. Also, I am able to keep the tweeter above the woofer unlike the SVS, where, when mounted the tweeter is below the woofer.
I doubt the difference is because it’s a significantly better speaker. I would expect that most of the difference is due to the speaker being a better match. The same would likely be the case if you were trying to mate the Focal Atmos speakers with SVS bed layer. Probably the prime elevation would be the better option if the roles were reversed.🤷♂️

Those should work but I don’t have B&W speakers, I have focal, so I would be in the same boat as where I started.
For $690 a piece there's no way these Focal's are better than anything out there. Not even close. Also, they are not acoustically superior than what is already available at significantly cheaper cost.
I don't know about that. I've used the SVS Prime Elevation speakers for height channels and they are about three times the cost and these Focals are better. I did a binaural recording for a friend and he did the same with the same demo content. He is using the SVS PES and he said that my height effects sound better and he attributed that to the fact that the Focal speakers are better. To each their own though. If you want to rock something else, then go for it. I want a fully timbre matched setup and when my other focal speakers come in, it'll be perfect.
