Two things about number 6: Castlevania Vampire Killer is not only the Japanese name of the card, but also the official name of the whip that (almost) every Belmont uses. Named after its use, I guess. Meanwhile, Vampire Lord and Vampire Genesis are technically a reference to Dracula himself, as he is always resurrecting from the dead and, when cornered, transforming into his monster form complete with horns, spiked bat wings, claws, and big muscles.
In Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, The whip is called Vampire Killer because it utilized the soul of Leon Belmont's spouse, Who was turning into a vampire. I guess because of how the whip used a soul of a vampire, That's probably why it's effective against Dracula.

Funny thing with the Moai Interceptor Cannons: in the german version of the card, its name is missspelled as "Moai AbfangkanoNNen", with "Abfang" correctly translating the interceptor part, but the german word for cannon, "Kanone" is spelled with only one N whereas "Nonnen" with two N's refers to women of the clerus, making "Kanonnen" kind of an accidently (at least i hope xD) word pun of Cannon and Nun. So the german Card translated back to english would mean something like "Moai Interceptor Cannon Nuns". Another glorious example of Konami being absolutely horrible when it comes to german localization xD

Something you forgot is that "Vampire Killer" is actually the name of the whip the Belmonts use. Further it was the lover of Leon Belmont, Sara Trantoul, who gave her live to empower the whip of alchemy and help Leon defeat vampires like the one that turned her. This was the whole kickoff of the series as thiet ordeal was revealed at the end to have been orchestrated by Mathias Cronqvist (aka Dracula) in his bid for power. The Vampire Killer whip having the soul of the Vampire Sara and loyal only to the family line of her ex lover, has been almost a character of itself in its whip form throughout the series. The Japanese name of this card makes A LOT more sense now. The included Belmont is a cameo as one is required to wield the whip, but the dark attribute and instadeath effect against other dark monsters with the name "Vampire Killer" makes it clear that THE WHIP is actually what the card is centered around. The whip is enhanced by the soul of a Vampire making it dark but since she was vengeful against other vampires and gave her eternal life to take a form that could be used to destroy them, the effect of destroying all other dark monsters it battles makes perfect sense to the in game story. There is no need to alter the name slightly the the word Vampire to exclude it from the archetype because she WAS a vampire so it still fits. Get Ride! AMDriver is about a young group of fighting force who could wield their own riding vehicles in battle to defeat their enemies (similar to how Red Rangers in Power Rangers use their Battlizer in battle), the concept of it is kinda similar to the effect of Roll Out! 6:47 small note: the small 'tsu' (つ) in Ryu Kokki's JP name is actually a special use of the character that is silent but emphasizes the following consonant. It's usually written in a smaller font size to distinguish it from the voiced 'tsu'. This is usually transliterated as a double-consonant in English, thus 'Ryu Kokki' is pronounced the same in Japanese as English. Edit: also, i think 'Vampire Killer' is also the name of the Belmont Family Whip.
I was about to mention the small tsu. I could not tell the size of it but if Ryu Kokki has been reprinted multiple times without a name change, a small tsu must be canon.
Ryu Kokki from Ryu Kotsuki is probably a mistransliteration, or possibly the intended Japanese pronunciation: the character "tsu" in Japanese is used in a smaller form to denote that you pause for a syllable to duplicate the next consonant sound. The best-known example where this happens is Tekken, where they combined the words tetsu (iron) and ken (fist.)
Hand destruction should have been mentioned omg i didn't think of that! That card is still VERY useful in the right hands, and it's also good support for any newbie that can't afford draw cards for their archetypes. Making your opponent discard 2 HURTS even if they draw first because, they have to ditch good cards usually. Playing it as a quick play, right when your opponent only has 2 cards left in hand, is really strong, and a dirty play that really forces your opponent to make very difficult choices
Fun fact: Moai and Brain Golem are also bosses that you fight in the Konami fighting game Monster Maulers (or Kyukyoku Sentai Dadandarn, in Japan). The Moai in that game now has arms and a body, and Brain Golem is just like in the cards and previous games (big flying brain with tentacle arms, and one big eye that you can actually hit it out of the monster).
I did that for him. I guess you would call that an in-joke. Professor Oats used Bubonic Vermin in his main deck way back when. I couldn't give an exact recipe but cards he used were Buster Blader, DNA Surgery, Parasite Paracide, Insect Barrier, Flint, Bubonic Vermin x3... fill in some blanks It would be amazing if he remembered. -- A.T.
Thank you! When I saw AT using Bubonic Vermin in the B roll he sent me and said "guinea pig," I was like "oh yeah, I'm going along with this wordplay."
In BES archetype. There are Tag Force exclusive support cards for BES. BES Assault Core: If your opponent controls a monster and you don't, you can special summon this card from your hand. Basically the archetype Cyber Dragon for tribute fodder. Sheild Recovery: A spell card. Place 3 counters on a BES monster you control. You know these would be very helpful for BES. Not great but better.
Good effort, guys. There's a few mistakes, though. And I'm surprised you didn't mention Ambitious Gofer. 5:03 BEF Zelos is the final stage in OG Gradius. 5:47 This is segment is cool because even Famicom game collector me, didn't know this. 8:21 the guy in middle is Ryu Kokki? 10:44 Spyrals look cool 11:00 Ahhhh I wish you could have mentioned that the Sasuke Samurais all have had Goat Format play. The original was a popular flip monster kiler, #2 was a tech card that saw fringe play, #3 was a mill and Creature Swap set-up card and even #4 has seen play in a few strategies. Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke was used in Light beatdowns. 19:08 I don't think you did the best job explaining this. Flint is a general gameplay mechanic, not a power-up. 20:22 Itsu segment was tiiiiiiight JM and AT were hilarious. 26:32 Why didn't you mention Samba from Parodius? 28:16 you confabulated Solar Flare Dragon's effect and could have mentioned it was a popular Fire deck card in Chaos and Goat Formats 31:42 Gradius cards were a rogue deck about 12-10 years ago, although this data was mostly under-reported until recently. 35:33 no that's Vic Viper not Lord British 37:50 Safe Zone saw competitive play. you could have mentioned this. Tryin' to be constructive, not negative.
Thank you! We love to pay attention to a lot of small details and my cohost is a classic arcade buff, so it was a good combo to cover this vast history

Hey MrTopTenList. I’m so sorry for missing this list last week. After running my errand, I somehow missed it in my notification. But I love the fact you covered the Yugioh cards centered around Konami games, my favorite being Vampire Hunter since I love the Castlevania series. Really appreciate your ambitious lists!
@@MrTopTenList this one didn't appear in my notifications for some strange reason. seriously I have a log of all the bell notifications on my phone and it's missing for this video and Top Ten electrical Fighters boogie woogie.
Good to see someone in life seeing this. Almost makes you appreciate konami even more for keeping the hisorty alive in different ways. P..S Im sorry but homegirl didnt need to be involved in this at all. She isnt funny. Having "comedic relief" in a video like this is unnatural and forced. Best to avoid that in the future or blend it into the script to be within the dialog.
Great video. But do you remember when you made videos if Yu-Gi-Oh was a fighting game. Could you make another one because it was so interesting and I would make some changes. Dark magician should be a strong fighter with a few long range attacks because in it's card text, it says that it's a powerful sorcerer because of it's physical strength and defense

Vic Viper T301's effect is actually another game reffrence. In Gradius V there is a level where a Vic Viper comes from the future to help you out for half the stage. The level has the two Vic Vipers navigating parallel mazes and cleaning away dead ends for eachother. It's actually a cool moment. Especially when you figure out the time displaced Vic Viper will become you after you get caught in a black hole on a later level
In the older yugioh games there was a lvl4 B.E.S card that could special summon itself and bring out a bigger ship and a spell that just gave them 3 counters. Idk why it never made it to the tcg or any other game.
I will say the original core monsters were REALLY powerful back in their day. Tons of people splashed them in random decks in locals because you couldn't easily destroy them by battle. They are definitely a LOT better than the video let's on
It's interesting to me that most of these cards aren't that great in terms of effects or stats. Konami could have easily made ultra-busted cards as promotion for their own videogames, yet they resisted the temptation. Also, I didn't know until now that Ryu Kokki came from a videogame. It was one of my favorite zombie monsters back in the day.
I don't know if you take suggestions for lists but I had an idea for one after watching your Inuyasha and Yu Yu Hakusho lists. (Top Ten anime characters that only appeared in video games.) Games based on popular animes that featured a character that was exclusive to that game. The idea came when watching the before mentioned videos I got reminded of an Inuyasha game that was released on the Nintendo DS. The story involved Kagome's school getting a foreign exchange student from the US named Janis. And as it turns out Janis is also capable of going through the well back to Feudal Japan. So she ends up joining Kagome and the gang for a one-off adventure. So Janis could be a contender for this list. Another contender for the list that I thought of off the top of my head could be Android 21 from Dragon Ball FighterZ.
I KNEW Vampire Hunter was Leon Belmont all along! Though I dunno about the various other vampire monsters being direct Castlevania references. Vampires are pretty generic monsters after all. Except Scarlet Scourge, he's definitely an Alucard reference.
Solar Flare dragon can not be attacked if there is another pyro on the field. Not he burns if there is another pyro on the field. If you have two on the field, your opponent can not attack because they are both pyro and can not be targeted if there is another pyro setting up a lock so you can burn your opponent for a thousand. Also Sasuke Samurai show ups on the spell card Card Destruction.
Didn’t know Konami owned gradius. Had a Shea genisis (mega drive) game but didn’t play it hardly at all. My 6 year old skills didn’t like that much challenge.
A few things about the Arcade Game Xexex. The Flintlock (the player's ship) would wield the Flint pod (a front attachment) throughout the entire game alongside its main weapon (Proton Lasers). While attached, the Flint pod would protect the front of the ship from enemy projectiles. It could also be charged to have it fire a large array of tentacles. The Flint pod could also be fired forward (like a missile) using a special button (this detaches the Flint pod). The Flint pod would stop at the first enemy hit creating a small blast at that location. Afterwards, the Flint pod would float about in that location slowing/weakening enemies in said location (that were not already destroyed by the aforementioned blast). Using the special button again whilst the Flint pod was detached, would call the flint pod back to its original position in-front of the ship for reattachment. I don't know what game you were describing. Also, there is a Yu-Gi-Oh! Card named "King of Destruction - Xexex", that I thought you would go over.
Ultimate Baseball Kid is from another Konami game? I ran an amazing burn deck with him as the MVP of it in the 2005 edition and I had no idea :P You might've missed Ben Kei out of the Goemon references by the way. Though he's based on a historical figure, his card matches his in-game appearance and references the fact he's a bit of a hoarder in that game.
14:38 Oh no, Trend's brother is crying. He was probably at a birthday party and Sasuke just used him as part of a substitution jutsu. What a mean ninja. Ancient Tree didn't deserve this.
I played goemons great adventure for n64 as a kid and was playing yugioh when the sasuke and lady ninja cards came out. Never made the connection that it was a reference! haha, the more realistic depictions are so funny in context
@@SoftwareAgentsTV They look a lot like the Amoeba drawings in Gradius manuals, and also they look very similar in SNES Gradius III, Gradius IV, and Gradius V.
I mean, I guess it would make for an entertaining video to track down cards that look like they're crackheads... That's what "based" means, by the way, look it up.
Think you could do cards based on Mythologies for a future video? I've been researching different mythologies for a book I plan to write and a lot of gods, creatures, heroes etc. remind me of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and couldn't help but think there must have been some influence, there's obviously the Nordic cards, but there's a lot more that I never noticed before, like how Suijin, from Gate Guardian, is an actual water god in Japanese mythology
One of the first sets of my Yugioh cards growing were bootlegs. So when I first saw Gradius I thought it wasn't a real card and something fakers just made. Only when I finally have legit decks that I realized it's an actual card (I was too lazy to Google back then)
DDR would've gotten more references with their dancer characters like EMI (named after the 1931-2011 standalone record label EMI) and song names like "1998".
vampire killer is also the name of the whip that has been passed down through the belmont line....as well "vampire killer" is also the title of one of the most used music themes in the series. while its true who specifically this is supposed to be is nto outrite stated...i think its safe to say that that this is Leon belmont... one would say he could be simon, but while the hairsyle is right, the color is wrong he also has the high collar and the cape..this is further simented that the specifics of his effect is reminisent of something leon had said to death in Lament of innocents as the effect is not anti-zombie specific, but any Dark creature.
Actually, the airplane men were very easy to play. I had a deck on them and it, actually whipped a ton of people lol. Ufo turtle, mothr grizzly, and flying kamikiri got them straight from the deck, and onto the field , ignoring any need to tribute. There was also discarding them and using monster reborn or call of the haunted back then, or premature burial. Once you equipped two airplane men to each other, they went to 2500 or 3000 atk and I believe your opponent couldn't activate anything in response to their attacks too, and they even did pierce damage ( I THINK, I could be wrong on this). But, yea they were REALLY strong for a total gimmick for a short time. Don't get me started on the Huge Revolution combo deck. If you managed to pull that off you basically won. Your opponent literally couldn't come back from it back then. It was obviously MUCH more challenging to do but, there are consistent ways to make it happen, especially now with all of the normal monster support
Mind-blowing. I recognize nearly all of these cards, but I only ever recognized that DDR and Gradius had anything to do with video games. Surely Lord British is somehow also connected to video game designer/amateur astronaut Richard "Lord British" Gariot?
Vampire Killer is the name of the whip weiled across the generations of Belmonts in the Castlevania games. The English card was changed from "Killer" to "Hunter" for no other reason than Konami's obsession with censoring tcg versions of cards.
27:54 Isn't Metal Gear Rex based on this design? It kind of looks like an upgraded Ducker. Not to mention that Metal Gears as a concept are basically just mobile nuke launchers and the only reason they go so hard with their designs is Otacon is a mecha anime fan.

I find hilarious how when AT says they were a Guinea Pig for Prof. Oats at 18:24 , Bubonic Vermin is in the background, very nice editing
I did that for him. I guess you would call that an in-joke.
Professor Oats used Bubonic Vermin in his main deck way back when. I couldn't give an exact recipe but cards he used were Buster Blader, DNA Surgery, Parasite Paracide, Insect Barrier, Flint, Bubonic Vermin x3... fill in some blanks
It would be amazing if he remembered. -- A.T.
Thank you! When I saw AT using Bubonic Vermin in the B roll he sent me and said "guinea pig," I was like "oh yeah, I'm going along with this wordplay."
@@MrTopTenList Beast of Talwar was another one!
I like it when those guys do stufff like that. their videos are layred and have rewatch value.

One of my favorite combos was 3 solar flare dragons dropped with ultimate offering and laugh.
I seriosuly can't believe you omitted Ambitious Gofer
Good effort, guys. There's a few mistakes, though. And I'm surprised you didn't mention Ambitious Gofer.
5:03 BEF Zelos is the final stage in OG Gradius.
5:47 This is segment is cool because even Famicom game collector me, didn't know this.
8:21 the guy in middle is Ryu Kokki?
10:44 Spyrals look cool
11:00 Ahhhh I wish you could have mentioned that the Sasuke Samurais all have had Goat Format play.
28:16 you confabulated Solar Flare Dragon's effect and could have mentioned it was a popular Fire deck card in Chaos and Goat Formats
31:42 Gradius cards were a rogue deck about 12-10 years ago, although this data was mostly under-reported until recently.
35:33 no that's Vic Viper not Lord British
37:50 Safe Zone saw competitive play. you could have mentioned this.
Tryin' to be constructive, not negative.
Tactical espionage experts head is like Raidens
I got 2 Better Call Saul ad in a row for this video
Fun fact: Alex Mitchell topped twice with a Gradius deck in 2009 and 2010.
This video is quite informative, I don't think even hard veterans of the game know all this info ! Great work as always !
Thank you! We love to pay attention to a lot of small details and my cohost is a classic arcade buff, so it was a good combo to cover this vast history
In the early days of Duel Links i used to have a Victory Viper deck that would use its support cards to boost itself to big numbers and ocasionally create option tokens to overwhelm the CPU opponent... The good old days
It's all good! Glad you got a chance to see it regardless!
@@MrTopTenList this one didn't appear in my notifications for some strange reason. seriously I have a log of all the bell notifications on my phone and it's missing for this video and Top Ten electrical Fighters boogie woogie.

Still waiting for my Senator Armstrong card.
that would be wild
I’ve literally never heard anybody pronounce Gradius like that.
BES monsters losing a counter when they attack is a drawback nobody asked or needed
Good to see someone in life seeing this. Almost makes you appreciate konami even more for keeping the hisorty alive in different ways.
P..S
Im sorry but homegirl didnt need to be involved in this at all. She isnt funny. Having "comedic relief" in a video like this is unnatural and forced. Best to avoid that in the future or blend it into the script to be within the dialog.
I never caught the Spyral reference. That's cool. MGS remains my favorite game series of all time.
Tactical Espionage feels like more a cameo for Raiden you know the protag from metalgear 2
I had no idea about any of this. Good video.
Glad you enjoyed!
20:21 The origin of the "ITSU GANG" 23:25 And the meaning of their names
30:08 Konami (as of this comment's writing) even did a Collab with "Power Pro", releasing cards like "Power Pro Knight Sisters" and "Power Pro Lady Sisters" in both Master Duel and Duel Links
Top Ten Based Konami games
except for that one time in the Kagome video when jUdgment meter was dubbing the scene when mistress centipede was liking kagomes face that WAS ANNOYING
That's actually really cool! I never thought of it like that. Gradius V is one of my top 10 PS2 games and my favorite Gradius game.
Judgment meter needs to be in all your videos because thats why i watch them.
Top 10 yugioh field spells you would want to live in
I'd probably like Sogen/Meadow. so peaceful, and from the way it looks in Duelists of the Roses... RENEWABLE WIND ENERGY!
When Vic Viper XX03 has its own support: Power Capsule.
I think the cores would have been a lot better if they had a way to reliably add new counters on them.
There's more B.E.S. support and the new ones get counters on special summon
They would’ve been better if all of them added counters on Summon rather than normal or special Summon
yeah… that’s pretty much literally implied in the video lol
In the older yugioh games there was a lvl4 B.E.S card that could special summon itself and bring out a bigger ship and a spell that just gave them 3 counters. Idk why it never made it to the tcg or any other game.
I will say the original core monsters were REALLY powerful back in their day. Tons of people splashed them in random decks in locals because you couldn't easily destroy them by battle. They are definitely a LOT better than the video let's on
Lord British itself is also a reference to the creator of Ultima, Richard "Lord British" Garriot.
I'll be totally honest, I had always thought Getsu Fuhma was a woman.
Very informative video. I didn't even know most of these were references. Another great one my friends!
Thank you!
I hope him an JM make more Inuyasha lists.
Hands down I like the Gradius references the most. Though the Goemon ones I never knew about until this video.
37:07
Maybe you should make a video on “pseudo archetypes” like this one at some point in time. That’d be interesting.
Main event time!
Omg I love the Space Dandy reference at 1:30 😝
I KNEW Vampire Hunter was Leon Belmont all along!
Also Sasuke Samurai show ups on the spell card Card Destruction.
i had no idea there were so many old school games in yugioh, mind.blown.
13:57 Yae looks SO CUTE there. I miss those games. 17:32 did Elena write this?
Space Mambo is one of the first cards i ever got and still one of my favorites.
Didn’t know Konami owned gradius. Had a Shea genisis (mega drive) game but didn’t play it hardly at all. My 6 year old skills didn’t like that much challenge.
Vampire Killer is also the name of the Belmont family’s magic whip.
And the most well known Castlevania music track!
You know Bloody Roar could easily be a game but Konami hates it.
I ran an amazing burn deck with him as the MVP of it in the 2005 edition and I had no idea :P
You might've missed Ben Kei out of the Goemon references by the way. Though he's based on a historical figure, his card matches his in-game appearance and references the fact he's a bit of a hoarder in that game.
This video just made me realize Konami released WAY too many shoot em ups good lord
14:38 Oh no, Trend's brother is crying. He was probably at a birthday party and Sasuke just used him as part of a substitution jutsu. What a mean ninja. Ancient Tree didn't deserve this.
His name is Trent. I 'm so tired of this!
I played goemons great adventure for n64 as a kid and was playing yugioh when the sasuke and lady ninja cards came out. Never made the connection that it was a reference! haha, the more realistic depictions are so funny in context
I am dissapointed they didn't reference that game
@@danieltang7614 The N64 game cover art was the background for that segment when we didn't use gameplay from the Super Famicom game

I read the title wrong an thought that you were going to talk abut the most based Yu-gi-oh cards, that would had been epic .
The Aitsu brothers might be based
I mean, I guess it would make for an entertaining video to track down cards that look like they're crackheads... That's what "based" means, by the way, look it up.
Based Konami Hates Yu-Gi-Oh Cards
Vampire Killer is actually the name of the sacred whip the Belmonts pass down from generation to generation.
regarding castlevania, i am convinced some of the Ghosttrick archetype is based on the castlevania spinoff kid dracula
Konami also make movie based cards as well. Kozmo archetype is star wars
vampire killer is also the name of the whip that has been passed down through the belmont line....as well "vampire killer" is also the title of one of the most used music themes in the series.
while its true who specifically this is supposed to be is nto outrite stated...i think its safe to say that that this is Leon belmont...
one would say he could be simon, but while the hairsyle is right, the color is wrong he also has the high collar and the cape..this is further simented that the specifics of his effect is reminisent of something leon had said to death in Lament of innocents
as the effect is not anti-zombie specific, but any Dark creature.
Btw True Fact: Not one but two archetypes are based off of Castlevania, Vampires and Evil Eye.
Well I think I'm going to go rush out by all the Konami cards and build a deck and see if I can make a competitive
Mind-blowing. I recognize nearly all of these cards, but I only ever recognized that DDR and Gradius had anything to do with video games.
Surely Lord British is somehow also connected to video game designer/amateur astronaut Richard "Lord British" Gariot?
Moai Interceptor Cannons is based off of the moai enemies from Gradius Gaiden that shoots lasers.
Damn, I really miss that old school Konami logo!
I don't understand why there wasn't a Bomberman Yu-Gi-Oh card
because that's not a Koonami game, doy
@@somebodyoncetoldmeshrek335 hudson is konami now
Vampire Killer is the name of the whip weiled across the generations of Belmonts in the Castlevania games. The English card was changed from "Killer" to "Hunter" for no other reason than Konami's obsession with censoring tcg versions of cards.
24:08 hey we played this on the hardware at the expo. Why are you so mean to the fox?
We did!
You need to be mean to the fox to beat the game!
To be fair the ships deck was played and topped a WCQ
we unfortunately didn't find that out until late in the video's production. -- A.T.
I'm gonna make a gradius deck now and none of you can stop me
Same,we'll see who has the better deck in yugioh master duel
27:54 Isn't Metal Gear Rex based on this design? It kind of looks like an upgraded Ducker. Not to mention that Metal Gears as a concept are basically just mobile nuke launchers and the only reason they go so hard with their designs is Otacon is a mecha anime fan.
Are penguin soldier a reference to Penguin Adventure the MSX game?
Half surprised Vic Viper's Zone of the Enders iteration didn't get a card.
Vampire killer is the name of the whip the Belmont's(and Norris's) use. Also the name of the first bgm in original game. Awesome music to slaughter the undead.
