- Once again, we’re looking at the overlooked monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh when it comes to being the ace of the deck. In a previous video, we looked at the secondary signature monsters of various main characters across the Yu-Gi-Oh anime world. Now we’re diving back in to look at the characters that didn’t make the list, plus a few extras for an even 10, and seeing who’s their backup ace monster was looking at their duels. Perhaps these secondary signature monsters were just as prominent as the aces. I’m joined by the crew again, being Corgian, Sam from Dungeon Dive Bar, Professor Oats, SyzygySolo, and Judgment Meter.

Fun fact about Black Ray Lancer, canonically in the Zexal Series every number monster had the bonus effect of only being able to be destroyed by other number monsters, but since BRL can negate their effects it is one of the very few normal monsters in the saga that can destroy numbers (and it happened in a specific episode I can't recall)
It happened in like the first 15 ep. Cuz shark got depressed after losing to Yuuya and joined some criminal gang then when Yuuya brought that talk no jutsu friendship ass shit Shark just beat the shit out of him and even then didn't defeat him cuz he took pity on his sorry ass.
It's how Shark beat Yuya in their second duel and was specifically an "anti-number" win condition. He specifically baited out Utopia so he could destroy it. It's actually a really cool duel.
Fun fact about Trickstar Lycoris:
The original 4 Trickstar had puns for names that referred not only to flowers, but also to English language female names. 3 of these were kept in the English translation: Candina (Dina), Lilybell (Lily), and Holly Angel (Holly). Lycoris's female name reference was lost in the English translation. Her Japanese name was Lycorissica (Jessica).

My favorite Ace is Gondora, but basically no one knows that's Yugi's Ace because he only had like 2 duels and didn't have it in his first one

Feels weird to consider it such beyond the DL recognition. Valkyrion looks plenty good with Yugi.

Yes Dark Rebellion still be my most favorite ace card. Its effect is simple yet powerful.
It wasn't just the Cyber Dragons but Cyberdark Dragons that Sirus would inherit and use secondarily. At least in the anime, these were the evil upgrades that were killing Zane's heart..Sirus regained emo-bro's respect by making them do his bidding without the master heart-attack cancer by product. It supposedly had something to do with the strength of thebduelist..basically they were pokemon of too high a level so they acted up agaisnt their trainer but Sirus had enough confidence gym badges to be commanding over them..some can see this as a heartwarming family moment..others can see this as the final insult to injury in Zanes sad downward spiral..killed by his own monsters who his aweful little brother then just make work due to his "superior" skills. I honestly loved the Cyberdarks in the TCG and their concept..but..yeah..there is a reason the set they came out in is considered one of the worst in yugioh history..the anime plot of them being superior to the orgional Cyberdragons is just BS. They eventually got more cards and support but it didn't make them really competative and by then Cyberdragons had plenty more themselves that was more effective. Really, the Cyberdarks just didn't have the stats or effects to compete and thier "dark magic" was the only excuse for them being supposedly good..and it kills you for using them..all in all, Zane should stuck with the origionals..or maybe..another deck? One of the many other strong decks what WONT give you heart-attack cancer? Just a thought..I know you were doing the speedball thing and going through your Penece phase but..now you are dead and your brother is your legacy.. Rust in peace.
Really hope we get another dinosaur specialist. The archetype could use another boss monster that looks like a dinosaur.
I'd argue that Astral should be the second most well known character of zexal considering when he was sent back to Astral world Yuma did everything in his power including dueling basically a God to get Astral back

Other honorable mentions:
- Astrograph Sorcerer and Chronograph Sorcerer (but mostly is Astrograph Sorcerer) with Zarc - Zarc is basically OG Yuya Sakaki, so that makes also Yuya’s secondary ace as well. The two cards are the primary component to cheat out summon his signature Supreme King Dragon Z-Arc.
- Harpie’s Per Dragon with Mai Valentine - I’ll supposedly go for Harpie Feather Duster but I’ll let this one a slide. Without HPD she is basically a sitting duck against someone who has big monsters than hers, that dragon compensates on that department provided harpie ladies were present that time.
- T.G. Blade Blaster w/ Antinomy/Vizor/Bruno -you think Halberd Cannon is his secondary and the former was the ace but in reality he was just holding his own to yusei to not to blow up his cover, since Blade Blaster can hold its own in most duels you could say blade blaster’s exposure was more than enough when dealing w/ Yliaster things when aiding yusei from the time being.
Thank you for the videos, I like those i watch a lot (especially yugioh ones, since i know more about this game than other things). I just want to point out a couple of (minor) mistakes if you don't mind:
1 - Jack Atlas and Chaos King archfiend: even though he uses this card in a lot of video games, like tag force, technically speaking, he does NOT own this card. In one episode, he borrows it from a policeman Name Kazama / Kaz and used it with his normal deck to defeat a bike thief and honor the efforts of said policeman.
2 - Soulburner and Pyro Phoenix: I think Sam (that's the person talking, right? I suck at recognizing voices, sorry about that) is wrong about Soulburner using that Link 4 TWICE: I believe he acquired that monster as a "parting gift" of his partner who kind-of-but-not-really-died during said duel, summoning it immediately after against the major villain but still losing. No one ever heard of Phoenix again - But hey, we got a NEW form revealed in a duelist pack for soulburner a couple of weeks ago.
As a yugioh fan, i wish you'd make a top 10 list with Mai included in some way (She's my personal favorite character, it'd be nice to see her get some recognition)
One of the characters we were debating for this list was Mai since she's essentially the 4th main character. I was thinking about just grouping the Amazoness archetype as her secondary, in part because I play them. If we do a Volume 3 ever, she'd be a character to explore.
I think Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf would have been a better secondary ace because from the debut to the end of Vrains, Soulburner used this card in every duel he played.

What a nice list giving the support characters attention. When I started playing Yu-Gi-Oh my Archetype was the Vehicroid archetype just like Syrus. I remember really liking how cute and heroic those guys were. 🚂

When I returned to the game I thought Trickstar Lycoris was Blue Angel Ace monster because she is the only one that got an Ultimate rare rarity !

As it's always been, Cyberdark Dragon crawled for the whole while Cyber End Dragon ran.
If there's any good secondary available it's Chimeratech Overdragon.
Chimeratech is the ultra-aggressive side of the deck that didn't have to rot it out.
I'll even say that if Dark Zane, S2 onwards, ran a Chimeratech theme I'd like him as much or more than S1.
They aren't magical girls they are based on Japanese idols
17:17 Also Tag Force. Most of the ones that got summon animations in Tag Force (Arc-V Special aside because it didn't have those) got them in Duel Links

Funny thing about Dark Rebellion is that the real life card is better and worse than the anime version. The real world version needs to detach two materials for its effect, but the attack boost is permanent. Anime version's attack boost only lasts until the end of the turn, but its effect only uses one material and isn't once per turn.
I'm so used to it being a good card in the irl card game that I forgot that the anime effect had different restrictions
Also, the anime effect can only target lv5 or higher monsters

It is not that GX Asuka/Alexis didn't use the Cyber Angel effects, they didn't exist. Her Cyber Angel cards were not printed in the real card game for a very long. Like over 10 years after GX ended. Obviously the Cyber Angels as they were in the anime wouldn't have even been playable while GX was airing hence why they never bothered printing them and trying to sell them. So when they finally decided to make them for nostalgia they gave them a lot of extra new effects so they could actually be powerful and playable.
Also Arc-V is my second favorite Yugioh series!
I still remember my first experience with XYZ monsters... I had a similar reaction to the dude who was like "Rank? What that?" So i can completely understand his confusion.
Manta rays are somewhat related to sharks. So the Black Ray Lancer does make some sense.
For me it’s harpie’s pet dragon. I know it’s not really a “good” card AT ALL but I just found it so cool at the time that harpies had dragons and controlled them. ESPECIALLY the episode where Yugi took control of harpie’s pet dragon but it still refused to attack any harpie’s. Not to mention that now over the years the harpie’s pet dragon got many retrains and new versions.
I was debating whether or not to give Mai a spot. If she did make it, I was actually going to put the Amazoness archetype as her secondary since she seemed to have a new one for every Battle City duel. However, Pet Dragon is just as logical of a choice
@@MrTopTenList good point! Konami does seem to like using Amazoness swordswoman as well whenever they use Mai. I think both options are valid! However, I remember in the first season when Mai revealed she had harpie’s pet dragon everyone was stunned that she had a stronger monster than Harpie lady sisters !

I would like to point out that in the Japanese dub, Jack Atlas loved to say there was only 1 king. So the fact that he really only used RDA with occasional guest stars really is appropriate and kind of thematic for him

Link summoning is like tribute summoning but with certain stipulations.
That's exactly how I describe it to people getting back into the game. I call it tribute summoning, but from the extra deck as it's most basic definition.

I have a friend who used three annoying decks but he uses Altergeists and not Trickstars as one of them. The other two are Magical Beats and High Priestess/Spellbook
I couldn't even shut the High Priestess of Prophecy one down with Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell, Dark Law or Last Day of Witch and only time I beat it was with Anti-Spell Fragrance, which just felt like as hollow of a victory as the few times I beat my other friend's Salamangreat deck with Dark Law until he managed to upgrade his deck to reliably and consistently punch over Dark Law as much as how I usually use Shadow Mist to summon Dark Law. Also he uses three copies of High Priestess in his deck.
I wonder if he made a Tearlaments deck since I last dueled him...

13:16 Literally both of these cards only even exist to summon Galaxy-Eyes with.
In fact that really goes for several of his cards... Photon Chargeman boosts its own ATK to 2000 to fufil the special summon requirement but can't attack until after the boost already wore off for example.

25:58 I think you mean the A-to-Z series. It's not an archetype. He never used the ABC cards as they came later but he did use the V-to-Z cards. Including V - Tiger Jet and W - Wing Catapult so it's not just XYZ.

I think the idea behind Topologic Bomber Dragon isnt that it creates Topology. I think its that is Bombs the Topology. It eliminates the Citcuits that anyone tries to put together
Come to think of it, I never thought of the bomber in its name referring to what it's doing to the topology. I just thought of a "bomber dragon" as a type of dragon, so it makes sense that he's actually destroying the topology with a name that that!
It also applies to the effect too, if you think about it! Any time anyone tries to summon anything to a Link Monster zone, Bomber Dragon does its thing, and Bombs the field. Thus, making sure that no topology can be built.

I think Starliege Paladynamo is Kite's true secondary ace. After losing all of his numbers, that is the Xyz monster he falls back on. Of course, Number 62: Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon could be considered one too.
I always thought Shark's secondary ace is either Number 101: Silent Honor ARK or Number C32: Shark Drake Veiss !

Imo it was completely pointless. It makes sense for Stardust to get a "Savior" form, but RDA just looks plain unnatural and weird.

With Black Ray Lancer they definitely jumped the Shark.
Funny thing is, Jack could be on a third version of this list with Scarlight and it's evolutions from Arc-V.
If only the Arc-V Jack Atlas use the IRL Red archetype Red Wyvern would probably be his second ace card not the RDA evos.

Corgian just likes saying silly things in character voices they practice (they have a spot-on voice for any character Maddie Blaustein character voiced, along with a great Pegasus imitation). Since I watched the 5Ds dub first, Jack never sounded weird to me. Dub and sub Jack voices are both good for campy and serious lines.

I wish we got Explode Dragonwing, Crimson Blader and Chaos King Archfiend retrains as part of new Jack support. Adding even more versions of RDA just makes the deck look so bland flavour wise - it's just the same one monster on different cards over and over again.
I'm still holding out hope that they haven't revealed everything yet. In some of the audio I cut, I talk about his main deck monsters that could work for this list. I really liked Mad Archfiend, who I was happy got a retrain that looked pretty useful!
@@MrTopTenList yeah, just like Infernity Archfiend got it's synchro retrain so should Mad Archfiend, Trust Guardian, Vice Dragon, maybe golems (make them made from lava and with earthbound/Red Zone aesthetic) and some of Jack's miscellaneous tuners too. Maybe even give us Stardust but with RDA's power or mix of two (like T.G. Stardust). Man, so many cool ideas and concepts, I wish at least some of them got explored.
