No doubt the GS8 is beautiful with its little to no bezels, but this phone expresses so much class and self-confidence, that it just makes its owner stand out in this world full of Galaxys and Iphones.

Sony is actually back with this,i can't believe after that fails they offered, something this good came, this could even be the best phone of this year.
They have battery protection from what i heard online, and charging longer is a lot better than using quick charge and destroying that battery life

Fingerprint is disabled in US because some idiot got power button fingerprint patent and Sony has to pay extra for that basic feature. This has more to do with stupid patent law which allow basic things to become patent. Actually there are ways you can enable fingerprint sensor. Also this issue has been there since Xperia z5. The reviewer should know about it.
You also covered little motion video. Cant help but think if Samsung or Apple had anything close, everyone would have made it sound like 2nd coming of Jesus. I would also like to know those low light photos were on auto or manual mode. I am not complaining but this is seriously good phone and deserve a bit more credit than you gave there.
I'm not from the US, so I can't say it can be software enabled without having a US unit... The 960fps feature works fine, but it just records a quarter of a second and then renders it down to 30fps. So getting the scene into the frame is kinda hard. Also 240/120 is possible also with higher res. Good quality, definitly outstanding. Well yes everything on auto, for sure could have done manual mode and playing with iso and shutter etc, but I just had the phone for a very limited timeframe.
Pratyush Anand you can enabling the fingerprint by easy way, download the flashtool and change the software to global one and will be working fine.
it is like watching a movie with slow motion scenes in between like an action scene etc., Ex: Matrix Movie action scenes which have Slow MO for only about 2-5secs, if the same slow mo scenes were of more duration like you people are expecting from this phone then that movie scene would not be so impressive to watch. the same applies in this Slow Mo concept of this phone.
The real question is where can I pre-order in US?

ARUN SUBRAMANIAN 835 is the new one, and sony and Samsung are the only ones so far that got it implemented in their newest flagships.

TechAltar the margin of image quality with flagship phone nowadays are so narrow that at the end of the day it has become personal preference and what is more appealing to your eye. The only way to judge if a phone's camera is better then the other is what is available and what is not available in the camera phones... And in this case... In fact I'm any case... Sony beats all the other phones. Simply because it has predictive capture and 960fps slow motion while the rest of the phones don't have any of that

i live in Japan, and I'm not a heavy user, so i said to myself not to buy a flagship or i will get a 1+ or xiaomi...but my brother and sisters only buy Xperia and i keep seeing them in the street, so I'm tempted..then i see the price of the unlocked version..and I'm back to mid-range devices.
why cant people understand that the screen is allways in 4k, its the content that is in 1080p but the pixels of the content are upscaled to 4k to fill all the pixels of the screen. its not like the phone shuts of 3/4 of the pixels and just use 1/4 of them to be in 1080p.. the image looks outstanding even when the content is in 1080 because you will allways see a 4k image, even if its an upscale 1080p image. you will allways get the sharpest image possible on a smartphone!
Norberto Castro for sure the Pixel don't differ... But lower res output means less load on the gpu and that equals better battery life.
Sure, thats right. (i was not talking specificaly to you, so sorry if it seemed rude of me) but it allways seems that everyone says that a 4k screen is unnecessary (we are waay past the point of necessity in mobile screens, now is just a matter of being sharper and vibrant) because the image is in 1080 and makes no sence because the result is allways a sharper image with a 4k screen. I have an s6, and it has an awesome screen, but my friend has an Z5 and i compare the screens a lot of times, and the Z5 is all ways sharper, theres no contest. Sure colors look better imo in the s6 (i know some people dont like the saturated colours but i do), but resolutionwise you can all ways tell the deference. at least i can for sure.. For $750 dollars this is a good deal.Because slo mo Cameras are really expensive.Plus this is cheaper than S8.

And Speakers when I heard it I jaw dropeed for real. It sounds so powerful and loud. And It has IP68 (Which I don't care just wanna poke a bone at Sammys fanbase :D ) . That is how to build a phone SAMSUNG.
And also bigger camera sensors than any other smartphone, in front and back.
Can test the XZ Premium speaker is louder than Z5 Premium?

Great review. I have this phone, it is heavy! I've had it a few months I'm enjoying it. Previous phone a Gs6. I would like to see the home buttons in the bottom bezel, seems a waste of space. Sound not as good as previous Sony phones I've had. Why is the phono jack point on top? It needs putting at the bottom. The picture quality is amazing, I must say it's the first time I've actually noticed the difference. I'd love a TV with the same quality. Looking forward to spending the next 2 years with this phone.
it's gonna be one of the underrated phones of 2017 imo, no one's really talking about it. yah it doesn't have those shiny little bezels and design but spec-wise it's really good.
in Sony phone videos, everyone praises Sony, in Apple or Samsung videos, Sony isn't mentioned at all

I have a Z3v and I love the device. it's 3 years old so it needs an upgrade in internal hardware. The front facing speakers are wicked cool. My Z3v would get hot while video recording sometimes. If Sony wants to keep up with the rest of the phone makers they need to have features like Samsung pay that works almost everywhere. The ergonomics of the Sony phones are wicked cool. Make the device say 2mm thicker to accommodate a lager battery for crazy battery life and they'll have a winner. I love the perfectly square design of the Sony phones. Just plain and simple. I've had the same tempered glass screen protector on it since the Verizon store I got it from. Curved screens are are a total flash in the pan and a pain in the but to protect.

Could you take the fingerprint scanner from the non us one and put it in the us version?
not really stupid, but the fingerprint scanner being removed from the US is because of patent issues by HP, the fingerprint hardware provider. The scanner is still there but disabled through software.

deadworms U can change your ROM to England's Room for example. Obviously you will lose your guarantee, but honestly, if I lived in the United States, I would take that risk.
well Sony shouldnt have agreed with that deal an entered the US market unlocked
deadworms sony was in USA already. There was the Verizon versions of Z phones, but Z4V has never shown up.
Sony sells all phones unlocked in USA since M5 and C5.

I love this phone! I think I'll be getting it soon... After watching over 5 reviews and reading over 10, reading user comments and taking a deep look into the specs, I find it a great phone. Since you've used it... How much better is it than, say, the Sony Xperia Z3? Z3 is my old phone (I got it on Oct. 2015) and still runs great, though it suffered water damage because my own irresponsibility. So I'd like to know how good it is compared to the Z3 :)

Did the one you reviewed has FM radio? I read on one Asian variant Xperia XZ Premium specs it did, & there also differences with accessories in the box of different region. Some suggest no fast charger & others say no earphone included, again like the finger print scanner is deactivated only on US version as you mentioned. In Europe & the States different carriers have their own freebees, which in some markets like in Asia hardly gets anything extra.
So i want to ask . This phone XZ Premium it s a better then Sony xperia XZ 2006 ? Or not?

Camera slow mode is impressive for sure but why not use the XA1 Ultra frontal camera on the XZ Premium ? Thick bezels need to be used!

So many people are confused about the material of the frame. Some reviews say plastic, some say metal...sigh.
After much research, I've concluded that the frame is probably made of Nylon, a type of plastic (according to a Sony rep on their own forums semi-officially confirming this). It is probably made in a way that it feels like metal due to the coating...it would certainly explain why so many reviewers say it is metal?

When can I order one in the US!!? It's still not on amazon when I checked a few min ago.
The US version also has a fingerprint scanner built-in, its just been disabled in the US firmware. Just need to flash it with Euro firmware and that scanner will work like a charm. And its been disabled in the US version because of HP's earlier local patent of that fingerprint scanners placement. Some say HP's been too uptight about the whole thing and have threatened Sony about launching lawsuit. It's not Sony's fault at all. I don't know how come not many tech reviewers know about this! Honestly, I don't know mind the 'bezels' because you have somewhere to put your thumbs without covering the video. I prefer having my thumb on it cause I'm butter fingers.

The main problem of Sony that they keep doing it over and over again is the device's bezel margin on top and bottom is relatively huge! and the corner edges are relatively sharp angled!!
I really like it but I have to use the magnification gesture to really see a big difference between 1080 and 2160.
And to date it is the only phone I know of that displays LTE+ on certain towers.
And yes I gave your video a like.

I disagree entirely about bezels, the s8 looks lovely until you drop it. I'm no Sony fanboy, but the premium is way out in front of the iPhone and on a par with Samsung. Samsung camera is great, works great, pics are oversatursted and unrealistic. Sony is dimmer but true pics. Also the front facing camera on xz and xz premium is the best on the market there is no arguments on that. Former s6 owner now on an xz. I won't be upgrading to premium but wish I waited. Gorgeous phone

All those phones you mentioned got absolutely smashed by the XZP, look at the comparisons on youtube... As you can see this phone is way too fast, its that good. XZ looks absolutely beautiful and very premium. Plus the XZP demolishes the S8 in every way literally if you have been watching been review

In my opinion, the cameras on Sony smartphones are the best in the world, everybody has their own opinion on it, but I have the Sony Xperia X, and it takes brilliant lowlight photos! And the front-facing camera on the XZ Premium is one of the best, if not the best out their! A lot of people just try to make it sound bad, but there'll be an update out for it soon, so it'll be better, although it's good at the moment.
