You’re like the Bob Ross of make-up. You just make make up feel so possible for people like me that are afraid of makeup and not being as capable as all the gurus we’re inundated with all the time. Thank you for making me believe I can be beautiful in the basic make up I am able to do.
I was about to comment and say this exact thing! I'm glad I read the comments before submitting mine! He is definitely the Bob Ross of makeup, and I mean that as the best compliment.
This is how I learned to do my eyeshadow as a teenager. I’m 35 now. This has always looked best on me. Every time I’ve tried to do something more complicated I feel like a clown. It looks good on others, but it just looks off on me. This video is so validating and I’m actually excited to do my makeup today. I haven’t been excited to do it in a while.
I'm 39 now and that was the way I learned to apply eyeshadow too. I've been trying to keep up with trends and stuff but every time I look at myself on the mirror in the afternoon, I feel like a clown. Everything looks heavy and I end up looking older than I normally look. I'm definitely trying this tomorrow!
That's what I thought too. I'm 31 and get into make up just now and watched many videos and they only show a makeup where you have to cover the whole eye and area around it even when I search for daily make up. So I thought I was doing the wrong thing all along.
Hi Wayne, I am 28 and I use this technique because I am tired of heavy makeup. I used to wear a lot of it because I felt ugly and insecure. Now I feel beautiful and yes, my makeup is simple, fast and it doesn't look like a mask but it is just me and my own beauty! Thank you Wayne, you are the best!
The "no make up" make up look had really been becoming more popular since the pandemic. I'm glad the pandemic bright is one good thing and that's the feeling of having more acceptance in our real skin. Make up is expressive, but you can still be expressive keeping it simple and letting the make up look like skin. I'm 35 and I feel the same way
Ditto babe. Ive tried the new cut crease looks and even in neutrals it was a no for me. A basic soft wash of color on the lid enhances beauty so much more than doing the most.
39 and same, with those little bud applicators that came with the shadow, which was always powdery AF in the brightest 80s & 90s colours 🤣 those were the days
I'm 43 and a metalhead, so same, but with grunge twist every once in a while: a darker eyeshadow and a bolder lashline, lined with kohl instead of the black eyeshadow, for that signature smudged undereye, if you're a 90s girl you know what I mean 😜
My grandmother used to say that simplicity is its own beauty, and she was right. Dramatic eyes are, of course, gorgeous and artistic in their own right, but for an everyday look, this is the way to go… and it will lessen the shock if someone happens to see you without makeup one day!
I'm from the 'less is more' school. Thank you for bringing back sanity to makeup, Wayne! I'm an old-school MAC MUA -- I L❤VE dramatic and intricate makeup, but there's a place and time for those looks. In the last few years, people have really gone overboard -- I find it really disconcerting to see the gal behind the deli counter wearing 2" lashes at 6AM.🤣 I'm happy to see people are now dialing it back -- thank you for helping!
Thanks Handsome.. great idea, haven't worn it like this in eons! But it still works. I never joined the cut crease crew anyways! I love just playing with colors until I get it right, and most of the time I do. FUN. That's makeup 💄 😍 ✨️ to me.
I’m so glad you did this video. I’m 60 and have felt lazy about my makeup application lately and this is exactly what I’ve been doing (like I did MANY years ago). Now I feel like it’s WAYNE APPROVED and all is right in the world. :).
Totally agree I'm 59 and I was taught back in my 20s that makeup is to enhance what's already there, it's not about painting a 3D object the way you would colour in an outline of a face on a 2D canvas.
Same here, and I'm exactly your age. I used to love doing my eyes when I was younger - I was one of those girls who thought nothing of leaving the house with 5 different colors of eyeshadow. We all learned Wayne's technique back then where we were first doing something more sophisticated than covering our lids in a single pastel color. Some things never go out of style.
"There's a long lost technique that your grandmother used. And your mother." Yes, they did. They both did. It's going to be 1 year next month since my mom has passed away too soon from a horrible cancer and 11 in May since my grandmother has passed away. This brought so much memories. Thank you ❤️
Yes, yes, and me too. My Grandma in 2010 And My Mom in 2011 stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. And both of mine wore this the same too. Makes me feel the exact same! I am sorry for your loss & that other women in the world know my exact pain. 😔
@Kelli In Texas I am sorry for your loss 💔 they may be gone, but never forgotten. And their legacy lives on and their love lives on within us ❤️ my mom's death made a huge impact on me, it changed my view of life and made me LIVE. Live like there's no tomorrow has a way different meaning to me now. Not destructively, but with meaning 😊 much love to you ❤️
Wayne has been on RUclips since 2008 sharing his top quality makeup knowledge in the most gentle, wholesome and practical way and i will forever be grateful for people like him
😍😂😉...YESSS...me too! I'm 67 and I did it always at my Work.... I'm in a medical Profession, I doesn't help and safe Humans and look like a "Mannequin" to them. I want to look even more like a nice "helping Angel" - or somebody like this 😍🤗❣😉
@@andreajennetta6505 most videos I watch do do a highlight on the brow bone. Just no color. I look back at my makeup in the '90s and I think having color on my brow bone looks crazy and weird.
I must first say that I think you are looking more handsome than ever. You've never looked better. Maybe there's some newlywed glow, but I also think you are aging into an even more handsome looking person. Secondly, thank you for this video. This is what I need to do for work and day looks. I cannot be bothered to try to change the shape of my eye because my aging eyelids are drooping differently and it would take hours to perfect my look if I were to try. Life is too short, I'm not going to try to make myself look 30 because I'm not young anymore, and I just need a bit of definition like this.
YES 👏 👏 This is the kind of everyday makeup that keeps us looking like ourselves & loving it😻 Of course everyone should express how they like, yet for so many women we hate ourselves without makeup & it’s often because we’ve worn so much for so long. 🙃 Then we fear being without it. 🙀 It’s so freeing to love your bare face & simply enhance it daily. ps: A MUA for 35 years here & I love learning from everyone still🙏🥰
That or we just get a mental boost from putting makeup on but get overwhelmed trying to figure out technique, colors, product+brand, etc. Wearing a bit of makeup can be really helpful for getting my adhd to "recognize" that it's time to do not lazy stuff 😆 And it may be a placebo effect but I swear I feel more awake if I put mascara on lol So yeah having these more real life examples is just so refreshing and helpful 💜💙
You can definitely do this technique on hooded eyes as long as you bring up the transition shadow far enough towards the brow that you can see it when your eyes are open. I do this technique all the time and I have hooded round eyes, it’s pretty and very flattering without being over the top.
Putting black shadow in the lash line is a nice cheat for people with hooded eyes who can't do tightlining. You get that effect of thickening the lash line without diminishing your eyes. Or anyone who wants to make their lashes look thick without falsies.
I call this "the lazy make up" 😆not to shame anyone, but I do this 90% of the time simply because I just can't be bothered to do anything complicated. I have hooded eyes so most of the make up shown on social media is undoable for me. And when I feel fancy or just to play around, I also do the last part, but just in the middle of the lid. Thank you, Wayne! ❤
Same here! I'm so lazy with makeup. Just a quick wash of colour and a quick blend for me , don't have the time for a cut crease. So bloody time consuming 😩
I'm 40 years old and just started doing makeup everyday a few years ago. This is how I do my eyeshadow everyday!! I thought I was crazy doing my eyeshadow this way. Thank you for proving I'm not crazy I think this is beautiful!!
I love this man! I’ve been watching Wayne since 2013 (I think) and I love how he always does elegant make up. The underpainting the simple eyes yet it always looks glamorous, sophisticated, light and classy. This man right here is the only person I will watch for make up tips, product reviews and tutorials. I also love how years years ago, Wayne said he won’t do brand collabs because he wants to always do truthful videos. And I remember a video he made ages ago like in 2012/13 visiting an elf store and sharing his adoption story and I just loved how open and honest he was and is
I’m 45 and this is what I was taught as a teen. I’ve used this technique all through my military career and now in healthcare. It’s simple. Subtle. A classy natural beautiful look. ❤
I'm 39 and have been doing my makeup like this pretty much all my life. I can't do those heavy makeup looks that are popular these days, I look ridiculous with those on my face. The makeup you showed here is natural and beautiful for anyone really. I'm not naturally pretty or beautiful, so I just want to make the best of what I have and this look is perfect for that. Thank you for bringing people's attention to this more subtle way of makeup!
When you put your glasses back on… stunning! I’ve never seen an eye look that jumped through the lens like that… such a simple, yet so impactful, combination! Thank you Wayne💜
So simple and so beautiful. This is how I have always done eyeshadow and I started wearing eyeshadow in 1964. Yes I'm old... almost 75 and proud of it!
I'm new to the eyeshadow game, and thank god you've posted this because I started a smoky eye on December 28th and I'm just now finishing all the blending;) Just kidding, but yes, thank you for a simpler way to do it; also, I could listen to you say "mascara" for hours. Happy new year!
I grew up in the era of cut creases, halo brows and baking and it sometimes feels like there is no other way to do it. Or, at least, no one tells you how. This video is appreciated ❤
Simple, understated but beautiful! Thank you Wayne that’s why us seniors love you! I’m 71 yrs old and you make me still feel like I am beautiful! What a glorious way to feel! ✨❤️✨😊✨
This is exactly the makeup I did in the 80's, when I was a model! I did it for photoshoots, catwalks, and everyday life. And I also applied the same eyeshadow to darken my brows, too. It's totally amazing!
OMG! You’ve just changed my life of a mother who has to get up at 6:20 to get the kids ready for school. I could only dream about eye makeup so early in the morning, but now… I’m gonna be that glowing from inside personality 😂 in the car ride line. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing . Finally a technique I think I would be successful with .I just don’t have the artist in me with eyeshadows . But not just that I really appreciate how your choice of words have given me confidence to have a try . Thank you so much, it’s much appreciated.Tracey 🇬🇧👍🏻💛🤍
This is how I do my shadow probably 90% of the time! I often use shadow sticks, just for their staying power and ease of use. I also bring up the shadow past my crease just a touch, since I have hooded lids. Love this classic look. Thanks for sharing, Wayne!
I love how you always keep it real Wayne! Your channel is no BS and it is greatly appreciated. Thank you! At 71 years of age, this is the way I started doing my make up many, many moons ago and thank you for showing this technique again!❤
This is extremely similar to the technique I used when I first started exploring with shadows in the early EIGHTIES! Love this version you offered. BTW, you are like a fine wine...just get better looking with every video!!!
Wayne, I am always impressed with your commentary and application. You have a way of making us all feel beautiful. As I have hit my 50's my once perfectly shaped eyes are becoming more hooded and I am finding that the smokey eye I have loved to wear is no longer so stunning on me. More simple applications like this are far more becoming on me. Thank you for reminding us that sometimes simple is just as stunning.
What a great look and perfect for older eyes. Tip for old mascara - put your mascara tube with the lid on, brush side up in a glass of very hot water. It will soften the mascara and help prevent those clumps from dry mascara getting stuck on your brush. Love your tips and thanks for sharing!
This is how we used to apply eyeshadow before Instagram. It's the way that looks the best in real life. Instagram makeup looks nice in photos but terrible in real life.
@sentientlemonclock1074 I'm a trained MUA, too, trained during the period when this style was what everyone was doing. And comments aren't directed just at the video creator but also general conversation with the entire audience.
Yes @wwondertwin you’re right! It’s how I used to and have started to again apply because of creepy crinkly old eyes 😊. Insta cut creases look fab on camera (usually filtered), it’s an art form in its self but in my opinion hard to replicate in real like and looks way over top in real life. Xx
Wayne, you must’ve been having an amazing day when you filmed this because you are positively glowing. Thank you for sharing your makeup knowledge with us ❤
OMG, Wayne what would I do without you! I just turned 67, and I remember visiting my Grammy (grandmother) with my twin for a summer. She didn't use hardly any makeup, but she'd swipe a bit of shadow just on her lid as you did, and a hint of mascara. My twin and I bought our very first lipstick that summer when she took us shopping (with our own money!). Oh how grown up we felt, the lipstick looked like shortening on us, I laugh to remember. But you are correct, a simple but stunning way to make us just a bit prettier :)... who doesn't need a minute to make our eyes the gate to our souls :). Thank you once again!
Yes we do. You have to take what Wayne says about trends with heaps of salt. He likes creating us vs. them when it comes to makeup application and gaining an audience. The youtube youngsters are wild and wrong and do too much according to him but he's on the side of the older angels. Yet many do natural low key looks and support brands that sell that kind of makeup.
Hi Wayne! Thanks for reminding everyone that they don’t need to go heavy on the cut crease just to look polished and put together. I’m 52 and I’ve always done this quick and easy monochromatic look! Especially when headed out the door rushing to my job as a retail makeup artist in the late 90’s till mid 00’s. We had no time to elaborate our makeup on a daily basis, maybe just a few times a week or weekends we’d give our makeup an extra special attention getting look❤
Oh same! 51 here to me that's my everyday thing. When I have time do something more. I get up at 4 to be at work by 6, my sleep is precious so nope not doing a full face just enough.
I've been applying my eyeshadow like this for some months now, just because it's quick and easy for work. Never gotten so many compliments on my eyes! ❤️ I feel so validated now lol! 😂
Oh my gosh! This is how I was taught to apply eyeshadow when I was 12 years old (mid 80’s) and able to wear makeup for the first time! A retro look for sure, but still so pretty! ❤
Such a calm and easy going tutorial. That’s the way I learnt how to do eyeshadow. I think my mum had a Miriam Stoppard book and I looked at the pictures. That’s Mr Goss a true joy to watch
This is great! My mom never wore eyeshadow (no lids) but this was my Aunt June’s signature look and she rocked it. Eyeshadow doesn’t have to rival a Rembrandt. Sometimes simple and elegant is best, especially on old ladies like me. Thanks for the reminder!
I am 37 and recently started getting back into eyeshadow from nearly 15 years ago. I have 4 eyeshadow palettes of neutral colors and felt like I didn’t know what to do especially with todays trends. Now this I can do! Thank you so much😊
Yes! This is old school but so works. I have really hooded eyes now so just blend it up a little or put some bronzer above it but this is the only type of eye look I have time to do & the only way I did my eyeshadow in the 80's. Love you Wayne x
You are the best makeup artist I’ve ever listened to. I’m a redhead. I have dry skin. All of your advice has worked for me. Especially the video on applying lightly powder over your moisturizer then foundation. Genius. I’m 70 yrs old. No one has ever suggested this method. Thank you. From Iowa.
This is why I love you Wayne. keeping it simple, elegant and sophisticated as usual. Many of us don't have time to spend in front of a mirror perfecting cut creases and all the pile on that we will wash off a few hours later
I can remember back in the 60's wearing bright blue eye shadow on her eyelid like that. Also, I remember Yardlyee (sp) and Mary Quant (sp) selling very bright makeup that you had to wet and use a brush (like a kid's) paint brush to run across your mobile lid like this. I like the brown, it is beautiful and the technique was a fun trip down memory lane for this old lady. Thanks Wayne. You are still the best on RUclips.
I couldn’t be happier that you did this video! When I was a teenager back in the 90s my mum took me to a make up counter to get a little make up lesson and this is exactly the eyeshadow look they thought me..I loved it so much I wore it for years. Somehow eventually forgot all about it though (I blame the internet!), i’m super happy that you reminded me of it
That's EXACTLY how I do my eyeshadow everyday! I love experimenting with different shadow shades. I love a good copper color or a dark silver color on the lids. Simple and beautiful.
It's really nice! I am so tired of all the heavy makeup and spending 1 hour to blend eye shadows (and not even getting a good result). I love your videos!❤
Wayne, I’ve been loving seeing this message on your channel the last few months! Makeup can be fun, and there is definitely a time and place for dramatic and adventurous looks that evoke a certain character for us to step into. But what you are doing is exactly what a really good makeup artist or routine is supposed to do, not make someone look or feel like someone else, but to show them their own original and unique beautiful features. Thank you for spreading this message 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I know Wayne most likely will not see this comment but I still can't help it. This eyeshadow technique was how I used to apply my shadows. I'd put a color on my lid, used either a darker color or simple black shadow at the lashes and that was it. Wayne, if you see this I need you to know you have a 40'something woman who never felt pretty, feel like a smart, beautiful, person. I've never felt such an intense connection to any other youtuber ever. Bless you for showing how all humans can be beautiful with or without tons of makeup. I love you!
@@WayneGossthe fact that you replied like that to the op tells me everything anyone needs to know about you as a person. I could HEAR you saying those words in my mind, realistically I'm your voice, so it felt very genuine reading it in a comment. Some people say "thanks so much!" and nothing else, and even I'm that way from time to time if one person ever comments on my lately unused by myself channel. So, pretty much never lolol, and that kind of reply is usually for those more generic, like, "that was really good, I liked it, nice job!" comments. It's kind bit doesn't need a heartfelt response. Also, I so apologize because one thing I know completely about myself, is that I'm 'extra' with my words, and don't need to talk this much. Brevity is difficult for me and imagine editing myself. Sometimes i just don't. However, give me a break, I have mania that pops up sometimes and makes me talk forever.😂 And stay up late and clean lol. It's not predictable when it'll happen but it's pretty predictable what I'll do. Like I'm organizing all of my makeup now and putting away all of the stuff i had out for the last couple of weeks on the bathroom so 8 can pick fresh products from the super massive collection i stupidly have. I needed that freaking money. So much redundancy my gosh. Finally o realize that it's crazy to buy more so I try not to watch videos where it's like a sponsored thing or you know sometimes even a review I don't always want to watch those anymore either. Sometimes all I want to see is how to do a makeup look, and lately it's been how to do a quick for work makeup look. But that was a truly heartfelt reply. You're a good person Wayne, and you better be because i don't want to be wrong one say lolol, but you are never in the scandal world, you are a consummate professional. I've been watching you for probably close to if not over 10 years. I'm in my early 50s now and not expired about that. It's word that i have a nearly 39 year old daughter. I'm not sure how long you've been on YT without looking, but I've been subbed forever to your channel, you are an OG! And once of the GOATS! We appreciate your skills knowledge, your very kind and professional personality some through in every video. You are never mean, whiny, angry, telling, talking smack, catty, gossipy or scandalous. Just Wayne, a super talented and nice man. I would love to be your bestie and get my old lady dance made up my YOU. A girl can dream.. Thanks for that, though, just being not a problem around here and always giving up great new information or old stuff no one does, like this one , although i do use that sometimes and I've seen it called the one and done eyeshadow look.
I have very hooded eyes. And I think this look still works because my eyelids will be visible when I blink and do all the mimicking I do with my face when I speak. I have given up on all the “instagram looks” because it doesn’t look good on me. This is the way to go❤
I'm 59. I had been applying my eyeshadow this way since the 1980's - and then I discovered make-up tutorials during lockdown 2020 and started to copy them. I think I might just go back to the way I used to do it. Way less complicated and yet still effective.
Absolutely, this style is the epitome of classic, graceful, chic beauty. It doesn’t scream look at my makeup. It enhances the eye’s natural beauty. And FYI- pairing this with Lumify eye drops makes your eyes sparkle!
This is my favorite kind of makeup, I do it almost everyday ! What I like about this technique is that I can use whatever color I want for the gradient, it always looks pretty. I love that you keep things simple, accessible and relatable for us because this type of content is so helpful !
Wayne your skin looks great! Just wanted to say I’m 53, this is how my I’ve been doing my eyeshadow and I love it! It’s like back to basics how we did our eyeshadow in late 80’s and early 90s. I love makeup and all the different ways people apply it and how artistic they are, but this technique works particularly well for mature women or anyone really. Thanks for the video!
Funny, I bought an eyeshadow kit when I was in high school and just learning how to do my makeup (before there were RUclips tutorials). There were instructions on where to place it and this was very similar to those instructions. I’ve done my eyeshadow this way my whole life since.
Thank you Wayne for bringing this onto your channel! I am almost 70 years old and I’m still able to wear make up have almost no wrinkles and eyelid space.!! so I believe I’m qualified to attest to the fact that this is how we used to wear our eye make up, exactly as you say, bringing attention to one’s beauty and not overwhelming the face or eyes with eyeshadow etc. even in the 1960s when heavier make up was the fashion, eyeshadow was not overwhelming and over applied. Kudos to you for pointing this out and I love it. You are the best.❤❤
Oh, wow! That's the only way I've been doing my eye makeup! I find it easier and beautiful enough for me. I'm the only sister in my family that doesn't do much like the way everyone puts on their eye makeup. Mostly because I don't have the practiced skill to do smokey eyes, cateye, or anything else so dramatic. 🤷 I love easy simplicity and beauty. Thanks Wayne! I'm glad that you shared this....I didn't even know this was a method done by my mother and grandma's generation. 🤗 I've always thought their generation were classic beauties. Smiling🤗☺️🙂
YES! Wayne, you are the sweetest for calling out intrinsic beauty! Like others who have commented, this is how I learned to do eye makeup as a teenager. I'm not knocking the bold and beautiful looks of today. It's amazing artistry to transform with makeup, but that look is just not for me. The "no-makeup makeup" look is also not for me. I want to enhance what I have - I wear a look, the look doesn't wear me - but sometimes I wonder if my age is showing because I don't have lashes on. Thank you for the reminder that this look is just enough as well as timeless and classic. ❤️
Thank You SOOOO much for this video! These 20 step eyeshadow videos were getting ridiculous. There is a time and place for them (for some... not me). However, often simple is still fabulous! I'm glad to know I'm not crazy and not alone that this simple eyeshadow routine is still enough. 🥰
This is exactly how my mother taught me how to do my makeup 30 years ago and I still do this because I have tried other techniques and my eyeshadow overpowers my eye! Why would I want to look like that! Thanks for reminding me ai am doing good! I admire you so much!!! 💝
This is how my mom taught me to do my eyeshadow when I was a teenager! I’m a single mom and I get up at 5am so I cannot be bothered with the long complicated makeup routines. I’ve gone back to this simple but beautiful look again. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for this video, I so needed this! When I hit 50 almost 2 years ago, my eyes changed somehow, and I have struggled with eyeshadow ever since. I’ve tried the techniques but my eyes end up, looking a mess! Wayne, you are the one to watch, you’re just brilliant sir ❤️
Wayne, I really needed to see this today. I’ve been feeling stuck in more elaborate eyeshadow and needed to be reminded of the basics. And YOU are beautiful! Thanks for sharing your amazing talent.
Thank you for this, Wayne - this is my everyday, go-to eye look and I always felt like I was doing it wrong because it felt too simple. I'm so glad to know you think it's still beautiful and stylish. I feel good about this look now!
I have hooded eyes, so I have to modify this by making sure I pull the shadow a bit higher in my crease, but I love the subtle smokey effect this gives!
I just stopped by on your channel and was just amazed; that you Wayne Goss I appreciate you in what you do. I’m a woman of color with mature skin I think I will start applying my eyeshadow to my eyes with this gem of technique that has been forgotten, thank you❤️
I love how my eyes look with eyeshadow, but never could achieve those looks from youtubers! for so long I did my makeup like Wayne did in here against all trends, because that what suit my eye shape and I have hooded eyes with loose crepey skin. Thank you Wayne for reminding us all that we can do with our makeup whatever we can and not feel worse just because we cannot master makeup trends!!!
Im 27 and I’ve always used this tecnique for everyday make-up (if i use eyeshadow) it’s a great, beautiful and fast way to apply eyeshadow! I love that you reminded people of this one and gave it a longer life! 🥰 Ps i have hooded eyes and just a liiiiiiiittle eyelid-space and it works great 🥰
I feel so validated! I didn't start wearing makeup until my 40s because my first marriage that lasted 20 years was volatile and I was not allowed to wear makeup. My current husband and my best friend encouraged me to do whatever I wanted as long as I felt beautiful. It was A LOT of what not to dos but I finally found what worked for my pretty moderately hooded eyes and it was basically what you just showed. Because anything else just got obliterated by my hoods. Thank you for this video. IT has made me feel so much more confident in my technique! ❤️
Thank you for being real about the eyeshadow make up situation. You are right unfortunately. Everywhere that you look, it's cut creases these days. I love a good cut crease, BUT I sadly cannot participate in doing them on myself which really depresses me and makes me feel bad about the way my extreme hooded eyes are built. Makeup doesn't always have to be glamours and over the top to be considered beautiful. A simple makeup look can still bring a "wow factor" and it looks elegant without being overly done and dramatic. I wish more people these days would appreciate a simple eye look. I'm glad that natural looking make up or the "no makeup" makeup look has become more and more popular where that specific trend focuses on the less is more idea. However, when watching a tutorial on eyeshadow looks, most of them really are over the top. Thank you for making me feel a little better about my hooded eyes. Hooded eyes really are very hard to do dramatic looks on. Like your said, you just have to work with what you have.
@@jjjjk1241 his eyes are hooded and it works so long as you have any lid space...very deeply hooded eyes it may not work on. Mine are pretty hooded and I've always done it this way because I can't do anything else 🙃 yeah head on eyes open its not very dramatic but most people are dynamic and in motion so it is somewhat visable.
Yes! Love your tutorials. The technique is do-able and yet so effective! I feel I’m too old and not skilled enough for many of these artists on here who do loads like cut a crease, carve a brow’, contour and put on lashes! I want to make the best of what I have and get out the door and enjoy my day. This type of teaching is the most helpful to me. Thank you.
Thank you Wayne--So validating! I wear glasses and have puffy upper lids/hooded eyes and have been doing my work makeup like this for years. Quick, easy and flattering. Sometimes I used a bit of bronzer in the crease/fold to receded the puffy look of my upper lid. Sometime you want to fuss and sometimes you just want to look put together.
I’m 53 and on an everyday basis, I’ve always just applied eyeshadow like this …. or almost like this. Just one colour across the lid (don’t even do the lighter colour in the corner) and into the crease and a subtle eyeliner. Have experimented with other techniques but for every day, just a basic neutral eye. Thanks Wayne for reminding us of the basic, beautifying makeup that just naturally defines the eyes!
This is the first video of yours I've come across and I have to say, I love the way you teach and speak about makeup. 💗 Feels very approachable and adaptable to a lot of different people.
The first video I googled on RUclips in 2008 was Smokey eye. So much different than now. I do this elegant eye in this video every day. Thank you for posting this. Understated wearable glamour
This is how I've been doing my eye makeup since I was in my 20s (and yes, I suppose I could be someone's grandmother LOL!) It's great and quick for those days I need to look a bit more pulled together and not scare my SO with lots of makeup. Thank you for all you do. xx
I absolutely love doing cut creases and smokey eyes however as I've aged and becoming time poor this is how I'm also doing my make-up now. You can literally do this with any colour that suits you. I love that you are bringing it back to basics as not everyone has an hour in the morning to do certain eye looks. The makeup trends now are also about buying all these products when you did this with very few products. Thanks so much 🙏
Minus the light color in the inner corner (which I personally don't do) - this is the technique I like the most and think is the most beautiful. In my opinion, leaving the browbone and crease empty is one of the most flattering things there is. Glad you made this video so that more people can see how beautiful and simple it is.😍
Ah! This is the "look-at-me-not-my-makeup" style I love. When I was in my 20s and 30s, I loved makeup and all the cool things it could do. I still love makeup and the cool things it can do--like make a person look even more beautiful by not calling attention to itself. There's room for both, for sure--but rather than thinking about this look as a simple time-saver, see it as a powerful beauty enhancer that allows you to be the beauty (not the makeup). Thanks, Wayne! always love your vids.
You made me cry again with your amazing words 🥰 You look gorgeous, and your hair is on point, and this makeup is truly beautiful ❤️❤️❤️ I also use this technique for everyday wear and I always feel beautiful and confident. Thank you for your mastery and kind words.
I’m 48 and this is similar to the technique I was taught when learning to do makeup. I didn’t know about the lighter shade in the inner corner though. I love it because it seems simple and I’m horrible at transitions.make up has become so complicated and definitely not always meant for my age group. Thanks for making a video on simple, no pressure make up for those of us who aren’t great at eye makeup. Love you videos.
I feel so validated! This is a version of my every day makeup. I don’t have time for more than that on busy work days. Wayne, you are simply the best. Thank you!!
I love this. I use this when I have an early appointment or in a rush. I started doing this when I noticed my son's eyes had this natural coloring as a young person. It really just adds a youthful look.
Wonderful! Thank you so much for your fabulous tutorials and for always encouraging us to make the most of our beauty throughout our ageing years. I love this natural glam look! I did this look to go my hairdresser's appointment and she said I looked beautiful! I also appreciate your soft voice and the way you coax us to try new looks. No shouting! As you say, so many makeup techniques are loud and brash, like some of those who shout. It's too far too aggressive. I agree with you that everyday makeup should enhance our features and be subtle. We are not professional makeup artists. But you are a wonderful artist!!!
Some of us just needed someone like you to give us permission to wear eyeshadow in a natural way.
So appreciated
Amen! Gosh, I adore Wayne
I agree
OMG true , Wayne da man and we got the stamp of approval !!! 🎉
True, but you can use other colours as well and look amazing too, I like greens and blues and then a contrasting silver or gold on the inner corner :)
After so many years of following you, I’m going to chime in: you are heart breakingly beautiful, always have been - and you look better now than ever.
I think so too!!!
I was just thinking that!
hear hear!
Agree! He is gorgeous!!
Agreed! It's amazing that he goes from gorgeous to even better with age. I wish all of us were so lucky to agree so gracefully and lovely
You’re like the Bob Ross of make-up. You just make make up feel so possible for people like me that are afraid of makeup and not being as capable as all the gurus we’re inundated with all the time. Thank you for making me believe I can be beautiful in the basic make up I am able to do.
The "Bob Ross of makeup" just made my day ❤️
Yes, he is the Bob Ross! Not only do I learn something, his voice is like watching an ASMR video.
I had never thought about it, but that comparison is spot on!
Absolutely 100%!!
Same 35 and a classic is timeless just like a good roller set
Same!
Same here i always look like a clown with all theese cut creases and things always done it this way I feel better now lol 😆
That's what I thought too. I'm 31 and get into make up just now and watched many videos and they only show a makeup where you have to cover the whole eye and area around it even when I search for daily make up. So I thought I was doing the wrong thing all along.
I love that you demonstrate on your eyes, and not a 17 year old model no one looks like. I have learned so much from you…thank you❤️
Hi Wayne, I am 28 and I use this technique because I am tired of heavy makeup. I used to wear a lot of it because I felt ugly and insecure. Now I feel beautiful and yes, my makeup is simple, fast and it doesn't look like a mask but it is just me and my own beauty! Thank you Wayne, you are the best!
Exactly this is me
The "no make up" make up look had really been becoming more popular since the pandemic. I'm glad the pandemic bright is one good thing and that's the feeling of having more acceptance in our real skin. Make up is expressive, but you can still be expressive keeping it simple and letting the make up look like skin. I'm 35 and I feel the same way
Yess..@Alessia...HE is ❣✌
And I learned so much here from him...😍🤗.
He is the best indeed
Ditto babe. Ive tried the new cut crease looks and even in neutrals it was a no for me. A basic soft wash of color on the lid enhances beauty so much more than doing the most.
I’m 41 and this is how I learnt to do my eye makeup in my teens. Thanks for bringing this classic look back around again… x
Same here!!
39 and same, with those little bud applicators that came with the shadow, which was always powdery AF in the brightest 80s & 90s colours 🤣 those were the days
@@rivertam7827 I know I miss the bud applicators!
I'm 43 and a metalhead, so same, but with grunge twist every once in a while: a darker eyeshadow and a bolder lashline, lined with kohl instead of the black eyeshadow, for that signature smudged undereye, if you're a 90s girl you know what I mean 😜
Yes. I miss 90s makeup. There were so many classy simple looks back then. I did my prom makeup like this.
Thank you, Wayne! Being 66 years old, this is exactly how I’ve applied eyeshadow forever. And it is still beautiful!!!😊❤
Me too, I’m 64 and have been doing this since my teens 🌸
Me too. I’m turning 67 this week, and this has been my go to for years.

Me too!
Your kindness always touches my heart. Makeup has always seemed like a secret the pretty girls had and wouldn't share. You make it so welcoming
The only influencer out there that gives us sustainable, realistic and obtainable tutorials 💕💕
My grandmother used to say that simplicity is its own beauty, and she was right. Dramatic eyes are, of course, gorgeous and artistic in their own right, but for an everyday look, this is the way to go… and it will lessen the shock if someone happens to see you without makeup one day!
👍 😂😂😂
I'm from the 'less is more' school.
Thank you for bringing back sanity to makeup, Wayne!
I'm an old-school MAC MUA -- I L❤VE dramatic and intricate makeup, but there's a place and time for those looks. In the last few years, people have really gone overboard -- I find it really disconcerting to see the gal behind the deli counter wearing 2" lashes at 6AM.🤣
I'm happy to see people are now dialing it back -- thank you for helping!
Thanks Handsome.. great idea, haven't worn it like this in eons! But it still works. I never joined the cut crease crew anyways! I love just playing with colors until I get it right, and most of the time I do. FUN. That's makeup 💄 😍 ✨️ to me.
Yes, I like how you put it, "bringing SANITY back to make up"
@@thorisomolefe2276 Thank you.🤗
I appreciate over the top, but not on the daily.
@@MsGinas Yes! FUN is what makeup should be!
That "gal behind the deli counter wearing 2" lashes at 6AM" part had me in fits of laughter. 🤣 Bless!
Not destructively, but with meaning 😊 much love to you ❤️
Thank God for Wayne... always bringing makeup back to reality 💜
He's kept it real while the whole world was wildin with our makeup.
💯💯💯💯💯
Wayne has been on RUclips since 2008 sharing his top quality makeup knowledge in the most gentle, wholesome and practical way and i will forever be grateful for people like him
Being a teen in the 60s this was how we all did our shadow and at 73 it still works for me today. Thanks Wayne.

I'm in a medical Profession, I doesn't help and safe Humans and look like a "Mannequin" to them. I want to look even more like a nice "helping Angel" - or somebody like this 😍🤗❣😉
Me too! Very bewildered by application today: nothing on brow bone
@@andreajennetta6505 most videos I watch do do a highlight on the brow bone. Just no color. I look back at my makeup in the '90s and I think having color on my brow bone looks crazy and weird.
Yep, I guess we were ‘revolutionary’ 🤷♀️
I must first say that I think you are looking more handsome than ever. You've never looked better. Maybe there's some newlywed glow, but I also think you are aging into an even more handsome looking person. Secondly, thank you for this video. This is what I need to do for work and day looks. I cannot be bothered to try to change the shape of my eye because my aging eyelids are drooping differently and it would take hours to perfect my look if I were to try. Life is too short, I'm not going to try to make myself look 30 because I'm not young anymore, and I just need a bit of definition like this.
Yes, I agree, and not only handsome but sexy, I have to say. And I also watch his videos because I like his English accent (as a German person).
YES 👏 👏
This is the kind of everyday makeup that keeps us looking like ourselves & loving it😻
Of course everyone should express how they like, yet for so many women we hate ourselves without makeup & it’s often because we’ve worn so much for so long. 🙃
Then we fear being without it. 🙀
It’s so freeing to love your bare face & simply enhance it daily.
ps: A MUA for 35 years here & I love learning from everyone still🙏🥰
You're spot on!
That or we just get a mental boost from putting makeup on but get overwhelmed trying to figure out technique, colors, product+brand, etc. Wearing a bit of makeup can be really helpful for getting my adhd to "recognize" that it's time to do not lazy stuff 😆
And it may be a placebo effect but I swear I feel more awake if I put mascara on lol
So yeah having these more real life examples is just so refreshing and helpful 💜💙
It's not lazy make up. The correct term is the "no make up" makeup look and it is a huge trend right now
It kinda is tho because it’s super easy. You can do it in 5 minutes. I always bring my shadow out tho cause I have hooded, almond eyes
@@palestar828 I'm not saying that it is, I'm just saying that's how I call it 🙂
Yay I do this most of the time as well but I use a cream gel liner I prefer it for my eyes.
And I remember a video he made ages ago like in 2012/13 visiting an elf store and sharing his adoption story and I just loved how open and honest he was and is
Well said!
Wayne is a class act!!❤

💯
Literally telling a MUA about makeup lol
@sentientlemonclock1074 I'm a trained MUA, too, trained during the period when this style was what everyone was doing. And comments aren't directed just at the video creator but also general conversation with the entire audience.
Yes @wwondertwin you’re right! It’s how I used to and have started to again apply because of creepy crinkly old eyes 😊. Insta cut creases look fab on camera (usually filtered), it’s an art form in its self but in my opinion hard to replicate in real like and looks way over top in real life. Xx
@@DefinitelyNotaCyberCat a swing and a miss
Beautiful! This is my (49) go to look for decades! ♥️ I never realized, that nobody else is doing this kind of eye makeup 🤣
@user-ww4pu5dx5e really! 😡

Same here! :)
Yes, just a wash of bronzer in the crease makes a huge difference.
You are the best makeup artist I’ve ever listened to. I’m a redhead. I have dry skin. All of your advice has worked for me. Especially the video on applying lightly powder over your moisturizer then foundation. Genius. I’m 70 yrs old. No one has ever suggested this method. Thank you. From Iowa.
I love how genuine and calm you are. This is the only beauty channel I watch now. You are amazing and beautiful! 💗
Somehow eventually forgot all about it though (I blame the internet!), i’m super happy that you reminded me of it
I love that you don't over complicate makeup, but yet you still create beautiful looks. These are looks I can do every day!!! Love your channel!! 💜
I'm 57 and fairly new to eyeshadow. I feel validated because I do this out of inexperience. Love you and your artistry!
That's EXACTLY how I do my eyeshadow everyday! I love experimenting with different shadow shades. I love a good copper color or a dark silver color on the lids. Simple and beautiful.
Always on point, always classy, you are just an icon! Thank you for being you, Wayne! ❤
I love you!
Thank you so so much for this beautiful comment. You've no idea how lovely it is to read this. Thank you so so much. You are beautiful. Thank you xxxx
OMG I still do this. I don't want to say I'm old, but this is a golden oldie! Much love to you and your Mr. for the new year. 💖
Agreed, if it takes over 1 minute per eye it's not worth my time. This is exactly how we did eyeshadow in the 80's when I was a teen, quick and easy.
This THIS!!! is exactly what I love Simple and perfect! Thank you for bringing this to light! You're Beautiful!
Ps i have hooded eyes and just a liiiiiiiittle eyelid-space and it works great 🥰
I feel so validated!
I thought he said it doesn’t work for hooded eyes. I would love a similar tutorial for hooded eyes.
@@evil1by1 Thank you so much for the clarification! I appreciate it!
You are a true artist and help people at every age look and feel better about themselves. Bless you! 🙏🏻💕
Wayne is the voice of reason for the beauty community. Thanks Wayne!!
Thank you!!
I love how enamored you are about this look. Understated, enhancing, and a little pop of wow! Thank you.
