I loved seeing how you made the alterations to the pattern-the more times I see you do drafting and alterations, the more the process makes sense to me. Each time I watch you translate a three-dimensional view (a mock-up or the pattern pieces pinned to your dress form) to a two-dimensional layout, my brain is forced to practice that mental skill, which does not come naturally to me. I have learned *so much* from your videos! Also, just to add a data point in your consideration of the wooden buttons: when you revealed the finished dress, the very first, totally *spontaneous* thought that popped into my mind was, “OMG, those are the perfect buttons!!!” Thank you so much for making and sharing all of these wonderful videos!!

This is so cute! I have some brown mustard colored linen that would be so cute if this dress. And I absolutely love the 1930’s style dresses with the flutter sleeves. While my figure doesn’t suit 1930’s dresses, it’s nice to know I could still have the flutter sleeves of my dreams!
I always have to increase the waist and hip measurements on my dresses, so it’s nice to see how to increase the measurements.
It’s nice to see how you do tissue fittings as well. I just recently started doing this, and it’s amazing how much one can get an idea of fitting issues just in the paper fitting. It’s always nice to see how other people who are more experienced do things so I can do them better in the future.

This will help me so much when I remake this dress! The first version was a flip unfortunately. I never knew about the ease issue! It all makes so much sense! I'm also going to raise the neckline and the underarm seam because I would also like some more movement, and to not have to wear a top underneath it! Thank you so much for this video ❤️

That is so pretty! I love the floral fabric treasure hiding inside ☺️
I’ve had this pattern sitting in my stack for years now, buyers remorse! The cup is too small, the bodice is too short, the centre front is too low and the same sleeve you chose is too narrow for my batwing arms. I can fix the sleeve easily enough, but the rest of it, not so much. I came hunting for anyone who’d done alterations on it. I’m so pleased i found your video. With spring just around the corner, I’m inspired to make it. Well to think about making it, at least!

First of all thank you for telling us what fabric you used. I have looked at other sew alongs and they don't tell you what fabric they made the dress in. Viewers need to know this - if we want to make a dress that has the same look and flow we need to know this if it was cotton, linen, rayon etc. The dress looks so cute on you and I think I am going to make this in linen as it looks so nice and will be cool for the summer.

  • @marigoldlancs8937

What a great tutorial! I’m working on this dress and did also raise the the neckline. Since I didn’t have material for a muslin, I pinched out a dart in the arm hole rather than raise the arm hole to get the same effect you did for a more mobile sleeve area. I have not attached the sleeves yet, plan on doing that today, fingers crossed I have enough material! I know it’s been a while since you shot this video, but I would absolutely love love love to see the scoop up waistband in the center-angling down on the side. I would really enjoy seeing how to do that and how to alter the skirt specifically. I completely agree with you on the facing. It gave me absolute fits, so I’d love to see that modified as well. This is the first time I have run across you on the Internet, I will subscribe!

Ooooo pretty!!! Love the look and just saw this today! Shoot! I am not sure I can do the sew along tho... too many commitments this weekend. BUT!!.... this would make an ideal summer dress and I have some old sheets I could use...so in a few weeks, after I finish a different big project, I think I will reward myself with a swishy summer dress! Your channel is a major inspiration for sewing all around...I dream of having a more feminine swishy wardrobe with some Edwardian inspired slips, and 1940s style handmade underwear.

I just finished the fitting alterations, but now I need to make the flutter sleeves! My middle son got me the most glorious sheer floral organza for Mothers Day that will make a beautiful over layer on some pale pink linen/silk blend I have. I was just going to use a green floral cotton, but never mind that! I always have to add bust room (34HH) which means necklines up to limit exactly how much the glorious tracts of land show. Won't be around for sewalong as race season is on. But I'll watch replays!

Have you ever looked at the closet historian here on RUclips? She does amazing self drafted patterns rom her bodice block for almost all of her videos, she does historic and vintage patterns. Her history patterns are 90% truly Victorian, but she inspired me to try to develop a pattern block.
But mountain from molehill delivery aside. She shows so many options to slash and spread, and adjust patterns, and also covers when you need to make a mock-up when you have a fitted basic block and when you don’t, and, how to do low budget pattern blocks for dresses, skirts, shirts. I’m not certain that it covers pants, but for us long skirt wearing folks who love mid century she has never let me down.
I think you would enjoy her.... sorry...
would love to see the upward swoop waist adjustment.

Flutter sleeves used to be called, short butterfly sleeves. Why not use a piece of lace, about 4 to 6 inches high at the V neck, it would look like a camisole. It was very popular in the 80's and very flattering. Love from Ontario.

What a beautiful dress! Love the pretty details on the inside. So inspired to finish my garment just as beautiful 😊
I finally found use for a fabric in my stash and will definitely make this dress for summer. Seeing how you made the alterations will really help me with the fit.
I have a question (before watching the sew-along video’s): did you make more alterations to the rayon dress? It is so much more flattering! I wonder if that is just the fabric choice or due to pattern changes.
For me it looks like the bust part fits better (i.e. longer, so the seam is under your bust) then with the linen dress.

    • @EnchantedRoseCostumes
      @EnchantedRoseCostumes  3 года назад +1

Thank you! Yes I did make another alteration before I made the Cactus dress. I ended up slashing the bodice along the apex and adding an inch in length there. (Also by adding an inch to the bodice front I also shortened the midrift piece by an inch along the shorten/lengthan line) I realized while editing the video for this dress that it was sitting a little to high on my bust still. To figure out if you need this adgestment measure from your shoulder to your apex and compare that to the pattern. I hope this helps!

For another time, if you want to make it possible to partake when one does not live in an area/region where these american patterns are easily available please announce earlier :)
I would really love to join in but with this short time between announcement and happening it's just not possible. I don't live in the US and I'd have to order home a McCall's pattern. I researched and I'd even have to order it from outside the continent so would have to expect 2-3 weeks delivery time.

I announced it a month ago on my instagram, and a few weeks ago on my youtube community page. It took me longer than expected to get the video announcement out :( Sorry :(

That makes much more sense! For some reason IG isn't very good at showing me what you post D-: I have to actively look you up, and to be honest when I open up IG ... I go to just scroll.
I will be making this dress though! In a deep scrumptious bottle green linen. I'd just have loved to make it along all of you all ^^

You might not be used to it, but this neckline is very flattering.

It's okay that women want to be modest. I wish there was more of it in our world. There's more to life than 100% worries about looks.
