The B1900D always gives me butterflies everytime I catch a sight of it. I started my commercial career on the 1900D. It certainly helped me in transitioning into the 737! Thanks for sharing the trip report.
I used to fly for air georgian, and remember tail #953 fondly. I usually fly with the partition open though, but definitely pilot's preferences. I'm glad you got to fly on the beech before its retirement. I'll miss it.
The CRJs are going to Jazz and probably the bone yard. The 1900s will likely find work doing charters or independent scheds as Georgian reinvents itself-much like Central Mountain Air did with theirs. But it’s a tough market and most players are moving up to classic Dash 8s and ATRs as well as CRJs.
It is a great aircraft as I have a special fondness for the 1900D as a kid I was brought up by the captain and actually given control of the aircraft. I remember my mom comments that she could tell when I was flying the aircraft. Note: Pre9/11 and flying between two third world countries on the military variant C-12.
I flew on Beechcraft 1900D from YFC to YHZ onboard EVAS Air. Pilot left the partition open the entire way. I was also sitting at seat 2A and saw the entire landing from approach right down to touchdown

Flown on these several times. Love the single seating and the privacy it provides. Like the feel of the powerful engines that get the aircraft to its operating altitude really quick and hold it steady like on rails.
I spent five years flying the Beech 1900D. The most enjoyable airline airplane I have ever flown. Miss it so much. Well, not really the paycheck. Pay was atrocious. But the airplane itself was an absolute joy to fly.
Those were neat shots of the wind socks sticking straight out at 9:03 and 12:45. The flight attendant has a interesting definition of breezy! Yes, the closed captions are useful (6:30) so thanks for including them.
Great review. The 1900 was the first aircraft I flew when I went to fly for the airlines. I got about 900 hours on the 1900, it's a good little workhorse. But for pilot comfort I prefer flying the 747 freighter which I got the pleasure of flying since September of 2018, we fly into Toronto at least once a month.
I worked for a regional carrier in the US at an even smaller airport than Lethbridge but I could totally relate! And thank you for the Beechcraft 1900 coverage! I LOVED working with and flying on the Beech 1900, best plane of it's size!! Also, we used to do our own security pre- 9/11!

I have been on a Beech a couple of times, and I have to agree with you. The experience was completely engaging and fun, closest I felt to “real” flying. Will miss these planes when they are gone. Thanks for documenting.
I remember flying in one of these MANY years ago and was in Seat 1A. I also thought it was cool to be able to see the cockpit. Along time ago when I was a kid I was able to sit in the engineers seat of a 727 after my dad told the flight attendant that I loved airplanes and was thinking of becoming a pilot. Was a super cool experience.
Really enjoyable video, thanks Alex. Here where I live in the UK (underneath the westerly final approach to London Gatwick) we see very few smaller passenger aircraft, so it was a real treat to watch your video. I have family in Thunder Bay ON and visited them in 2000. It was fascinating watching the smaller aircraft come and go whilst in the departure lounge for my flight back to Toronto.
Great flight report! I love flying small aircraft. Also, brought back memories of my first flight ever; Lethbridge to Calgary on a Twin Otter operated by TIme Air. I was just a kid, maybe 13 or 14, traveling by myself to visit family. We few at 5000 feet with a view of and out the cockpit the whole way. It was awesome and got me hooked.
Great video Alex....brought back many memories of my year in the YQL area....1957 at RCAF Claresholm flying the Harvard. The windsock was a ball and chain......joke.....and when it was straight out you could only fly with an instructor. When the ball was missing from the chain, flying was cancelled.The Crows Nest Pass area was notorious for it's surface winds. Spent 40 years with AC....33,000 hours. Have a grandson flying with Air Georgian....his dad is a B-787 Capt. My dad was a pioneer aviator in Canada.......4 generations. Thanks for a super presentation.

I flew this from Montreal to Hartford Connecticut years ago. I'll never forget the co pilot saying to all of us to just tap him on the shoulder if we needed anything during the flight! Lol... Also on the return flight I loved being able to see through the cockpit glass as we lined up with the runway for landing. They didn't put up the divider for the return flight!
Flew a Beech 1900D via Great Lakes Airlines - Denver, Colorado to Amarillo, Texas. WONDERFUL experience, having the 'aisle' all to myself. We did have a cabin attendant on that flight, so it had all the airline trappings. Hope I may get to fly them again sometime.
Got to fly on an Air Georgian 1900D a few years back, YYZ-MDT. The pilots left the cockpit door open which gave an extra great view for this avgeek passenger. It was the smallest scheduled plane I’d been on at the time until I flew with Southern Airways Express from LNS to PIT on a nine-seat Cessna 208

In the past, YQL had non-stop sked flights to YEG, YXH, YVR and even GTF at one time. Corporate jets flew daily trips to YMM as well. The hub concept and the economy changed all that. The city's population has more than doubled since the construction of the terminal, yet no major expansion of the terminal has occurred. The terminal even had a small cafe, now replaced by poorly stocked vending machines. A flying school, two FBOs and an ag spray operation are still based at YQL.
Thanks for showing the BCATP plaque Alex! Lethbridge has a very historical airport! Thousands of Allied airmen received their wings there during WW2 within distance of the Rockies.
I used to fly on 1900D's between Denver, CO and Farmington, NM. You've felt anything like the way one of those things gets kicked around by the up(or down)draft as you clear the front range on approach to Denver.
I flew a 1900 with EVAS AIR from St-John's to Deer Lake Newfoundland in March 2008. It was a hell of an experience. I watched various flecks of paint peel off the left engine for a while. Then we landed in deer lake in the worst snowstorm I've seen in a while. As we reached the gate, the captain just turned around and smiled at me and the four others on the flight.
These were the "go-to" between Halifax and Moncton. Coming back from the UK one time and there was 4 UK teachers coming to Moncton as an exchange. They couldn't stop laughing when they walked out on the tarmac and saw the plane. They all took pictures in front of it, it was the smallest plane they had ever travelled in lol
In the late 1990s I flew to Groton, CT from Philadelphia on “US Scare” about 3 times - maybe on a smaller or older sibling. No canards on the wings. The non-convivial crew only spoke to passengers on arrival and unloading bags. Another US Air contracted airline. They and others) did this r/t several times a day, because the US Coast Guard Academy and the major General Dynamics submarine shipyard - is in Groton. We passengers joked that all of the announcements played off an 8-track. In those pre 9-11 days - often the cockpit doors were open in flight. One of the cabin crew would yell back “that New York City would be coming up on our right!” Great view as they flew over Long Island. I think our plane had less seats for a larger cargo bay in the rear.
There is something about the 1900D that I just love. Growing up in Gisborne, New Zealand our airport was serviced with Air NZ 1900D's and I fondly remember taking them up to Auckland to visit Auntie and Uncle. Wonderful aircraft.

You are correct also they were used by Air Canada for cross-border operations into Albany New York Syracuse and Allentown Pennsylvania the latter one has a bus connection to Newark Airport via Interstate 78

I flew on that exact aircraft C-GHGA back in October from YXH to YYC, man that thing was bumpy as hell, but somewhat enjoyable haha. I still prefer the Saab's over the Beechcraft any day of the week though.
The 1900D is a awesome aircraft. I was a photog to document the building of the D and its first flight, it has lots of power in the two turboprops. The D is a modified King Air that was first flown in 1964.
I recently flew in a Pacific Coastal Airlines B1900D from CYVR to CYQQ return. Interestingly, the crew didn't close off the flight deck, so I got to watch them through the entire flight--which was only around 35 minutes.
@@noobplayer_23 I was stationed in Germany years ago and in the military I just got used to using it. It is simpler than AM-PM. More need to use it as well as the USA going metric.
@Chadwicked B I need more information like the date 5/11/2019 or 11/5/2019 That was confusing until I found what country(s) used the month first. It was confusing until the number 13 would come up. We use month day year here.
Very good vid. I totally felt sorry for you legs. Im only 5'8 and I was sort of squished in, but then I really felt sorry for your head as you were exciting. But neat plane and I also really enjoyed the few times Ive flown on that air craft. I 100% agree with the small town feel on that aircraft. Thank you again for you outstanding work you do.
Those little winglets are so cute, and it even has them on the horizontal stabilizers! Interesting how Beechcraft chose the exhaust there, instead of behind the engine/wings (Like a Hawker 748).
As someone from the East coast, you did pronounce EVAS correctly! Great report! I flew on one of EVAS' 1900D's from gander (YQX) to Debert (CQ3). Let me tell you that was a brutally long flight!
I liked your trip report, I've done this route on this particular aircraft many times as Lethbridge is my Home airport. And its nice to see I'm not the only who hits my head in an aircraft lol I've done that many times too.
I've flown this one between Moncton NB and Halifax NS - if it's any consolation, I'm only 5'7" and I still bang my head on that same spot every now and then.
I flew in a Beechcraft only once in my life, it was May 9, 1998, from Montréal to Baie Comeau. It was a longer flight, and snacks were served by a single flight attendant. It stopped at Québec City, after 45 minutes, and afterwards, Baie Comeau in around 1h30. It was a great flight, and each seat being a window seat except 1A and 1B, It was great for the scenery.
I enjoyed this trip report. I used to fly them (as a non-rev) in 2007-2008 with CommutAir. One of the great things about the B1900 was the fact that there was no door and you got a glimpse into the cockpit. I see this is no longer the case.
Never got the chance to fly on one, but AC used to fly those on YYZ-ROC-YYZ up until 4 years ago going on 5 now. Tickets were NOT cheap. It's only a 3.5, maybe 4 hours on a bad day drive and for the price of the flight you could probably buy gas for 20 plus round trips by car. Was the last passenger B1900 that used to fly to ROC after the US carriers dropped them for Q400s and RJs. They served in both the 1990s white with black tail as well as the toothpaste livery.
Thanks for this video. Reminds me of the few trips on this kind of aircraft some 16 years ago, on a corporate aircraft ferrying staff from Singapore to the plantations in Indonesia.
Stumbling upon this five years later and the vast difference between the Lethbridge terminal then vs now (which was last November, actually) is astounding. Not least of which the fact Air Canada/Air Georgian no longer operates out of Lethbridge at all, and it's purely WestJet. Though the wind, the wind never changes.
I've flown on the Air Canada Beech 1900 before, from Richmond VA to Toronto. Granted i was shorter and weighed less back then lol. Nice lil plane and "cozy" to say the least.
Flew on one of these (I’m pretty sure) home from Saint John NB to Halifax NS when I was 16... so like 20 years ago now... I was scared shitless! The damn thing shook and rattled like crazy!! Thank the lord the flight was only like a half hour!!
C-GHGA was the last B1900D I turned while working at Sarnia YZR. A bit bittersweet seeing them leave the fleet, but it was just a matter of time. The reliability got bad enough to the point where Jazz would sometimes cover them after mass delays/cancellations. This time last year (May) YZR had 7 GGN flights a day, but that was slowly whittled down to 1 JZA 4 GGN, then eventually 2 JZA and now 3 JZA for the summer. The 1900D was a rather nice aircraft to work with and the majority of the flight crews were delightful and professional.

Live in Cheyenne and used to fly GLA into Denver.... I miss them. Now the old fleet is lined up on the edges of Cheyenne Regional

Will never forget landing at Dulles in one of these in a storm. We were being tossed everywhere, but the pilot nailed the landing.

I remember flying on this guy - Red Deer to Calgary to catch another flight. Only cost an extra $7! Smallest aircraft I've flown in, it was super fun.

I flew on that exact aircraft C-GHGA back in October from YXH to YYC, man that thing was bumpy as hell, but somewhat enjoyable haha. I still prefer the Saab's over the Beechcraft any day of the week though.
The 1900D is a awesome aircraft. I was a photog to document the building of the D and its first flight, it has lots of power in the two turboprops. The D is a modified King Air that was first flown in 1964.
That is very interesting. It's like an international airport but everything is shrunk down. Even the planes.
I flew on an Air Alliance 1900 YQB-YUL back in the mid nineties. I really enjoyed the experience.
I recently flew in a Pacific Coastal Airlines B1900D from CYVR to CYQQ return. Interestingly, the crew didn't close off the flight deck, so I got to watch them through the entire flight--which was only around 35 minutes.
There's no option to close the flight deck on the 1900 c and d model at Pacific Coastal lol it's up to the operator. On the Saab it is though.
Cant believe they closed the Cockpit door, I always keep it open for the cool aspect to the pax and to get some light in there. Nice video

@@noobplayer_23 I was stationed in Germany years ago and in the military I just got used to using it. It is simpler than AM-PM. More need to use it as well as the USA going metric.
@Chadwicked B I need more information like the date 5/11/2019 or 11/5/2019 That was confusing until I found what country(s) used the month first. It was confusing until the number 13 would come up. We use month day year here.

Very good vid. I totally felt sorry for you legs. Im only 5'8 and I was sort of squished in, but then I really felt sorry for your head as you were exciting. But neat plane and I also really enjoyed the few times Ive flown on that air craft. I 100% agree with the small town feel on that aircraft. Thank you again for you outstanding work you do.
Those little winglets are so cute, and it even has them on the horizontal stabilizers! Interesting how Beechcraft chose the exhaust there, instead of behind the engine/wings (Like a Hawker 748).
As someone from the East coast, you did pronounce EVAS correctly! Great report! I flew on one of EVAS' 1900D's from gander (YQX) to Debert (CQ3). Let me tell you that was a brutally long flight!
I liked your trip report, I've done this route on this particular aircraft many times as Lethbridge is my Home airport. And its nice to see I'm not the only who hits my head in an aircraft lol I've done that many times too.

I've flown this one between Moncton NB and Halifax NS - if it's any consolation, I'm only 5'7" and I still bang my head on that same spot every now and then.
As a 6'6" flier, it is great to see somebody tell us their height when they comment on the leg room. It is always my first thought when flying.
I flew in a Beechcraft only once in my life, it was May 9, 1998, from Montréal to Baie Comeau. It was a longer flight, and snacks were served by a single flight attendant. It stopped at Québec City, after 45 minutes, and afterwards, Baie Comeau in around 1h30. It was a great flight, and each seat being a window seat except 1A and 1B, It was great for the scenery.
I enjoyed this trip report. I used to fly them (as a non-rev) in 2007-2008 with CommutAir. One of the great things about the B1900 was the fact that there was no door and you got a glimpse into the cockpit. I see this is no longer the case.
Never got the chance to fly on one, but AC used to fly those on YYZ-ROC-YYZ up until 4 years ago going on 5 now. Tickets were NOT cheap. It's only a 3.5, maybe 4 hours on a bad day drive and for the price of the flight you could probably buy gas for 20 plus round trips by car. Was the last passenger B1900 that used to fly to ROC after the US carriers dropped them for Q400s and RJs. They served in both the 1990s white with black tail as well as the toothpaste livery.

Thanks for this video. Reminds me of the few trips on this kind of aircraft some 16 years ago, on a corporate aircraft ferrying staff from Singapore to the plantations in Indonesia.

Stumbling upon this five years later and the vast difference between the Lethbridge terminal then vs now (which was last November, actually) is astounding. Not least of which the fact Air Canada/Air Georgian no longer operates out of Lethbridge at all, and it's purely WestJet.

I've flown on the Air Canada Beech 1900 before, from Richmond VA to Toronto. Granted i was shorter and weighed less back then lol. Nice lil plane and "cozy" to say the least.
Flew on one of these (I’m pretty sure) home from Saint John NB to Halifax NS when I was 16... so like 20 years ago now... I was scared shitless! The damn thing shook and rattled like crazy!! Thank the lord the flight was only like a half hour!!
C-GHGA was the last B1900D I turned while working at Sarnia YZR. A bit bittersweet seeing them leave the fleet, but it was just a matter of time. The reliability got bad enough to the point where Jazz would sometimes cover them after mass delays/cancellations. This time last year (May) YZR had 7 GGN flights a day, but that was slowly whittled down to 1 JZA 4 GGN, then eventually 2 JZA and now 3 JZA for the summer. The 1900D was a rather nice aircraft to work with and the majority of the flight crews were delightful and professional.
