At 9:52 we can hear the AUTO-PILOT OFF alarm from the cockpit, meaning the aircraft went on a CAT2 approach, which is normal considering the low visibility :)
While that’s the procedure for a cat 2, this wasn’t a cat 2 day…the visibility is pretty good; in real cat2 conditions you’d barely be able to see the taxiway next to the runway! Its actually amazing when you step off and can’t see basically anything that the plane landed safely..
You can even faintly hear the triple click sound at 9:56. If the internet is to be trusted, it means a change in landing capability caused by the autopilot disconnect.
I have the privilege of being a frequent flyer on this aircraft, and it's neat to see someone else get the experience. The updates they made certainly modernized the look of the interior. Interestingly enough, they just added options for in-flight entertainment at the end of the season; once you connect to ACWifi you can stream VOD movies and TV shows on a Phone/Tablet/Laptop.
I expect AC uses some of their oldest aircraft on the sports charter operation since those aircraft fly far fewer hours than the regular fleet, often parked for long periods between flights. Helps keep them flying without major maintenance. They don't want the expense of a major overhaul on a 31-year-old aircraft. Delta does the same on their very similar sports charter operation, using some of their oldest 757s.
@@stefansuta3537 The doors we’re probably closed but my guess is you could still hear through them. I’ve sat in the front of some planes before and could hear what was going on in the cockpit through the door. The AP disengage sound on Airbus is very distinctive and loud.
How long were these planes flying for Jetz? I mean new interior for a 31 year old plane must mean the flightcycles must be low. So they will be the oldest A320 flying soon.
Might not even be low cycles, delta did the same thing with their oldest 757's. Didn't upgrade to etops etc, this way they minimize cycles and don't "waste" a younger plnae
I bet these jets fly even less often than cargo aircraft. They will often be sitting at the airport for a couple days while hockey teams play and so on. It's a good use of a less fuel efficient aircraft, just like cargo is. I don't believe Air Canada has ever bought new jets for Jetz, though they did use newer jets in the past.
Due to volcanic ash my flight to Vancouver had to land early in Calgary for a night and I admit it was kind of cool to see it in person for the first time after seeing it so often in your videos! Thank you for your reviews -- I've been making my way through most of your videos and your enjoyment is really playing a part in helping me get over my flight anxiety.
Haven’t flown any Air Canada flights lately but that looks cool. I do have you beat for size of A/C vs. the number of pax. I flew not to long ago on a United 777-300 repositioning from Denver to LAX for a flight to Narita, Japan, I was 1 of 6 pax onboard and had full run of the A/C via a business class ticket using my air miles! SAFE FLYING ALEX!!
I've flown this same plane back in 2020, was such a wonderful surprise and so comfy, fell asleep so quickly on and early morning Winnipeg to Vancouver flight.
About a year ago I got lucky with a substitution of one of these on a YYZ - EWR flight that I was booked into an exit row in coach. I was so confused when I walked on and settled into a seat that had 10+ feet of open space between me and the next row ahead. The pilot was a gray-haired woman with a pony tail, and she came on and said we may have noticed the plane was "tricked out". Such a fun experience.
They are currently using it between YYZ and ATL for scheduled flights. Got to ride on it yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. They sell the whole thing as economy class.
ALEX!! First time viewer!! I just subscribed!! I always wondered what the AC JETZ logo meant when I was sitting in the first class lounge @ YYZ!! I really miss flying and enjoyed your channel today. I have to tell you that I had the "distinct pleasure" as a employee of SHELL GLOBAL to fly back and forth to Dubai from YYZ for 5 amazing years, first class, on EMIRATES A-380!! Truly an amazing adventure!! It was a "TOTAL" revelation of how "the other half travels"!! The people, the lounges, the staff, the food and the wonderful EMIRATES staff who were incredible and understood what "first class" meant and they had it down pat!! I retired 5 years ago and have not flown since!! This video whet my appetite to pursue a new adventure this summer!! I will continue to watch your video's and thanks for your efforts!! Greetings from Canada !! GIDDYUP!!
Love these flight reviews by Alex, I have watched flight reviews by Dennis Bunnik and Jeb Brooks for years and only recently became aware of this channel. Dennis is an Aussie business man and Jeb an American has his own travel channel, both fly more often as not in business class or even first class, as part of their work. Both are great and seem like nice guys, but Alex's channel is far more relatable and normal as he pays for his own flights and flies cattle class more often as not. :) Carry on the great work Alex. whether flying first class or sardine class. ( which is a step down from cattle class, (economy) and is reserved for flying people on vacation to their destination. which is all I've ever flown from Cardiff or Bristol to various holiday destinations in Europe, Cyprus and Turkey. etc) The planes are chartered or owned by holiday companies like Thomas Cook, TUI, First Choice etc and cram as many people in as they can. :)
Your comment reminded me of Noel Philips videos as he seems to do aviation videos but with a presentation style that looks to me as though it's aimed more towards the kind of people who'd watch videos from MrBeast, Linus Tech Tips, and/or a number of video game RUclipsrs, or in other words, he has more of a clickbait presentation style and also allows sponsor integrations in his videos which in turn is something I wouldn't do. Meanwhile, I prefer the presentation style of Simply Aviation, and Alex's presentation style is in between those and Noel, Jeb, Dennis, and Sam, at least as far as I can remember. Edit: Alex's videos may have a bit of clickbait, but it's not as bad as what I've seen with Noel's videos.
Just got back from a flight lesson. Saw an Air Canada 320 on the private and GA FBO. Wondered what the heck is that doing here? My question was answered from this video haha
Awesome video Alex, I worked the departure of that A320 that evening when it took the Ottawa Senators out to Columbus post game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. We had that bird plus a Jetz A319 for the Maple Leafs on our ramp @ Skyservice with the 2 departures within 5 minutes of each other. I'm told that there is supposed to be a special "Jetz" paint scheme and I'm hoping that they return to the original lower case font of "jetz" as the one that went on after the year and a half hiatus from operations in the block lettering looks pretty sad to me. Also the A320's that are coming back into the Jetz fleet are having the baggage hold floors replaced to a standard bulk loading style floor as the previous "can" rolling floors were proving to be to much hassle for the sports charter/Jetz style of operations.
I love watching your flight reviews. You are positive and usually love the airplane food. I do too and it is a delight to hear positivity and love towards the airline products. I feel the same way and It's like I am going on a flight with you. I stumble on other "Brutally Honest" reviews...and that guy comes across as an ingrate snowflake. Your review is more down to earth.
I think AC has a new salmon deal. I was served last week more salmon in my starter than I ever seen on a plane plate before :) makes sense really, good Canadian food! Nice video :)
I remember conversions to the configuration but they used the old Canadian airplanes with the old CRT in the middle for entertainment. They had the old seats too but same configuration.

@SSaugaCriss sorry I was referring to the a330-300 cabin refits that AC did for the commercial fleet lol, not for Jetz. You're right though, a330 charter config would be way overkill here

On the airbus we would use "flex" takeoff reduced thrust while still maintaining a balanced field. Similar to TO-1 and TO-2 for Boeing. Saves fuel and less stress on the engines.
I saw this on FR24 a little while ago coming in as ottawa is my local airfield, however runway 07 landings are gross, the pilots literally have to plant them on the Touchdown zone because of it being the shorter runway they have.
I wonder if the plane was filled with cargo, seemed like a long takeoff and sounded like 'max throttle' was used. If it wasn't packed with cargo, I dread to think what the takeoff length would be at full capacity! Although I bet the seats are pretty heavy.
