    What a rare sighting these days! I grew up in Wichita, Kansas, where the 1900 was made. I’ve seen them with and without lavatories (Air Georgian cut out 1 seat and half the cargo hold) but haven’t ever seen one with a flight attendant. Very interesting.

    The Beech 1900D actually does have flight deck doors. The crew just opt not to close them for most flights.

    • @Kirstin-jd3wf
      @Kirstin-jd3wf 4 года назад

      That surprises me. I thought after 9/11 everyone was forced to close the doors during flight. Even on a dornier 328, which has the same kind of door, we had to close it after the rampi had left.

    • @pilotseye24
      @pilotseye24 4 года назад +2

      @@Kirstin-jd3wf It has to do with how the aircraft was/is certified. The Beech 1900D is certified under FAR Part 23 Commuter Category and therefore does not require to have a lockable flight deck door.
      It also comes down to the fact that the aircrafts flight deck does not have emergency exits for the crew in the cockpit. So that in the event of the need to evacuate, the cockpit doors should not unseasonably hinder the flight crew from escaping.

    Had a whole 1900D to myself once. My connecting flight was delayed so I was rebooked onto what appeared to be a positioning flight from West Palm Beach to Nassau. No flight attendant. Was greeted by the first officer and captain!
    Me and the crew got on great :)
    On approach to Nassau, we had to go through some big clouds and got thrown about a bit. At one point all the screens in the cockpit went out and I saw the captain flip a few switched on the overhead panel and the screens slowly came back to life. I asked what had happened once we landed. Capt. said a generator had gone offline and he switched the load to the second.

    Used to fly out of Cheyenne, WY on 1900Ds with Great Lakes Aviation... Now GLA went under and there are a dozen of the 1900s lined up taking up ramp space

    I never thought about the lack of a bathroom. Maybe because the last time I flew one I was in my early 30s on Great Lakes Airlines. I loved being able to see out the cockpit window, and the OVERSPEED buzzer that came on on our approach to Kearney, Nebraska. In the seat adjacent and ahead of me was an off duty pilot who casually turns to everyone and says "Just an OVERSPEED, nothing unusual."
    Great experience. I miss Great Lakes Airlines
