@@NavyDoc5184Reactswhen I get to my PC later, I’ll repost my list here with links to the songs I recommended as well (it’s a bit frustrating to try to do so from my phone lol) so they’re easy for you to find. I’ve seen some great recommendations from other commenters & I’ve got to say that as a brand new VP reactor, you are in for one hell of an adventure! Two helpful tips on reacting to VP: be sure to watch their videos until they start rolling out their list of patrons - it’s fairly common for them to have a message or something fun to share with their supporters, and if you look at the description of their videos you can see who did the arrangement, set designs, lighting, costumes, makeup, etc. Over time you’ll start to be able to recognize whether it’s a Geoff or Layne arrangement (they each do roughly half the arrangements for VP, with Eli (rhymes with jelly) rarely doing an arrangement as well (though he is something of a wizard where it comes to doing the lighting for their videos, so even if he doesn’t do many arrangements, his lighting effects contribute so much to the mood of their videos.)

VoicePlay is an Indie group and they do their own arrangements - this one was done by Layne, the Beatbox. Geoff, (Jeff) the bass has commented that if they're just going to imitate another version, why bother? They look for songs they can bring something new to.... (Bruno is the family scapegoat. He has the gift of prophecy, so he tries to warn the family about things but they don't listen/assume he's making them happen.) Your colleagues at Navy stole one of our favorite VP Members - J None. They recruited him and he's currently singing bass in DC. You'll see him in many performances, and he comes back often as a featured singer when he's on leave.

Oh my. Going from Bruno to Oogie Boogie... interesting way to start with VoicePlay! Okay, so, welcome to the VoicePlay rabbithole! Just to get you started off with the lineup- the sassy fellow on the left is Cesar De la Rosa, VoicePlay's newest member and a lovely bari-tenor. Next up is Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci, original member, bass, subharmonic bass, dear-god-how-low-do-you-go bass, and occasional tenor. The lovely Ashely Diane is featured in this video; she has appeared with them in several videos, and sometimes performs with them for live events. Next, beside Geoff is Layne Stein; original member, baritone, vocal percussion, violin, and carrot antics. And finally, the bald gentleman on the right is Eli (rhymes with 'jelly') Jacobson- tenor, rock god, sometimes-bassline and character voice king.
When you watch Oogie Boogie, however, the lineup will be different- there have been several changes to the group since that song was recorded. There you will see J. None (baritone with a voice smoother than butter) in place of Cesar, as well as Earl Elkins Jr, a fellow whose physique does not match with his laser-sharp, unbelievably high tenor. You will also get to see how these guys earned the moniker, The Theater Kids of A Cappella- and keep in mind that they do all of this themselves. It was shot in the video production studio co-owned by Layne and former VoicePlay baritone, Tony Wakim. Eli did the lighting work, and Santa is played by Geoff's brother-in-law (although Eli provides his vocals). Unlike Pentatonix and Home Free, VoicePlay has never had any label's backing, and has always been 100% independent, so anything you see or hear from them is entirely their creative project. As someone who has been involved in the arts since childhood, I respect the hell out of anyone willing to put that much of themselves out there, and who is willing to do all the dull, unglamorous work as well as the fun stuff, and that describes VoicePlay's attitude. Plus, the guys themselves are all just sweet, humble people who clearly love their craft, appreciate their fans, and work their butts off to create extraordinary music and videos.

VoicePlay is incredibly creative and talented! They are truly top tier acapella. Because of their frequent use of sets, costumes and makeup they are called the 'theater geeks' of acapella. Favorites are: Hoist the Colours, Warriors, Queen in 5 Minutes, Valhalla Calling, The Dragonborn Comes, Dream On (yes, Aerosmith), Nothing Else Matters (yes, Metallica!), and too many more to list!

Welcome to the aptly named, "Theater Kids" of accapella. Glad you were also appreciating the lighting and the scenery, they do pretty much everything themselves except for the camerawork (although they direct that) and the makeup when elaborate makeup is needed (as you will see when you watch Oogie Boogie.) The 'bald guy', Eli (rhymes with jelly, is short for Eliezar and not Elijah) does the lighting and in more recent videos has done virtual backgrounds for them also instead of a physical backdrop. (He also is bald by choice, having gotten tired of fighting really curly hair all his life, so giving him the 'all of my hair would disappear' line isn't quite as cruel as it might seem at first sight.) He has also done the occasional arrangement, but 99% of them are done by Geoff (sitting at the lower left, the bass) and Layne (the beatboxer who also did some singing in this one, was sitting at the lower right). And Cesar, baritone/tenor, the newest member, definitely caught your eye from the beginning with his physicality and presence. Believe me, he can grab your heartstrings as well as tickle your funnybone. Ashley has guested with them often and fits right in, as you can tell. Whoever has done the vocal arrangement generally directs the video as well.
If you haven't reacted to VP's Oogie Boogie yet, I might suggest that you check out "the Nightmare Before Christmas - Oogie Boogie's Song" video available on the MovieClips channel to see how it was done in the movie. In VP's version, the minions that are helping Jack Skellington and Oogie Boogie appear in the video whereas they are just at the beginning in the original clip. I think it's really interesting to see how they changed up the arrangement for their version.

Thanks for your reaction! Voice Play is very different from Pentatonix and Home Free as they are called the "Theater Kids Of Acapella" putting so much into the production which they do on their own without a record label or contract. All Voice Play members and their frequently featured guests are from Orlando Florida and have worked for Universal and/or Disney theme parks. Their 5th member, J None, left the group to join the Navy but frequently comes back as a featured guest when he is on military leave (he has not been permanently replaced so other featured guests have been filling in the 5th spot). Voice Play's spooky, Halloween themed covers are the best on the internet so you may want to do some reactions to their Halloween covers during the upcoming season.

Welcome to the perfectly demented, delightful insanity that is Voiceplay! Let me introduce you to the guys! Left to right (in a W pattern) we have Cesar De La Rosa (Baritone/tenor..allllllll the personality and fun! Full of sass but will break your heart in more emotional songs!) Geoff Castellucci (Human subwoofer..the amazing bass with the 5 octave range who also does about half of the arranging for the group...he says he's old but he's just an overgrown child! Also has his own solo channel) Ashley Diane (Featured artist...she has collaborated a few times with them) Layne Stein (Vocal percussion voodoo master with a beautiful singing voice and the other half of their arranging dynamic duo) and last but not least, Eli Jacobsen (pronounced Elly...like "Jelly" the amazing rockstar tenor with the shiny dome. Can hit crazy high notes and obscenely awesome runs and riffs...does the lighting for their videos and occasionally dips a toe into arranging as well.) So that's their current lineup, though when you watch Oogie Boogie song, you will see a couple other faces as the lineup has changed over the years, and Earl Elkins and J. None were still with them. Hope that helps! Enjoy your trip down the best Acapella rabbit-hole you will ever find!

Welcome to the Voiceplay Rabbit Hole, its an interesting dive down with a party around every corner. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and never get board.
    Breif introductions:
Cesar de la Rosa in the yellow shirt in a Sassy Baritone with an angelic voice. He is the newest member and a heart throb
Ashley Diane is the featured singers who has sung with them in several songs and like all featured singers fits in perfectly
Eli Jacobson (rhymes with jelly) Bald tenor with the voice of a Rock God and can truly hit some astounding notes. He has been a member of Voiceplay sind 2010 or 2011 and is usually in charge of lighting and backgrounds.
Geoff Castellucci (Jeff) low bass singer that has five octaves and refuses to stay in his lane. He also has his own channel where he has mastered the art of cloning himself. He also arranges about half their songs.
Layne Stein vocal percussionist who is no longer considered completely human, he was originally their Baritone but when their original beatboxer left for an acting career he learned the basics from Geoff and exploded. He arranges about half their songs. And is Co-owner of Patty Cake Productions were most of their videos are filmed. He has also picked up a variety of names including Carrot Lord 🥕 and VioLyne.
    Song recommendations:
    Oogie Boogie Song (Definitely)

A couple of things to know about VoicePlay: first, they are all very tight knit, like family. Two of them have been singing together since middle school. And second, in addition to being all around nice guys, the are VERY good to their patrons, offering more percs than most. I was on a zoom call with Layne when he was doing this arrangement and he not only showed us what he had so far, he asked for opinions and suggestions. They also open a video feed for some patrons into their video shoots so that we can watch the fun and learn more about what they do. For example, Layne wanted a painted backdrop for this shoot (they’ve had them before) but it couldn’t be done in time. So he took a picture, processed it on the computer to look like a painting, and had it printed on the vinyl backdrop you see here. (And it was filmed at Pattycake Productions studio, which is owned by Layne and good friend Tony Wakim (VoicePlay’s former baritone)).
I’m glad you started with this one. Oogie Boogie is great, but atypical in that it features Geoff. Most of the time all members get their chance to shine.
You will see J None in their older videos. He left the group two years ago to join the Navy. He was singing with the Northwest Naval Command, but was recently promoted and will be a member of the Sea Chanters. He still sings with VoicePlay sometimes when he can get leave. (Even recording Valhalla Calling while he was on leave for his big wedding ceremony!)
My suggestions for future reactions would go two ways. For one with less theatricality I would go with Nothing Else Matters. Most people would say you can’t do Metallica acapella, but VoicePlay doesn’t listen.
For even more theatricality, I would suggest Hall of the Mountain King. You get a wondrous (and a little scary) look into the mind of arranger Layne Stein as he takes a song with no words and tells a story. Through setting, costumes, makeup and prosthetics, he transforms the singers. And as each throws something new into the cauldron, the music and even their voices change.

Here’s a list of my favorites, from both VoicePlay and Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci (the bass singer) who has his own solo RUclips channel.
    By VoicePlay:
    The Dragonborn Comes
    Tennessee Whiskey
    Can’t Make You Love Me
    Nothing Else Matters
    By Geoff:
    Ain’t No Sunshine
    Shenandoah
(the next two are linked together storywise)
    Misty Mountain (watch first)
    I See Fire (watch second)
    Sixteen Tons
Just a little info about VoicePlay, while Pentatonix are the more pop, mainstream a cappella group and Home Free are the country boys of a cappella, VP are the theater kids of a cappella 😊 Most of them have worked at Disney or Universal theme parks at some point & and are very theatrical in their performances. They are fully independent artists & do all of the arrangements, costumes, filming, set design, and production. Layne (beatboxer) and Tony (former VoicePlay baritone who wanted to work more behind the scenes) co-own Pattycake Productions where most of their & Geoff’s videos are filmed.
Since they’re not signed with any labels, they don’t get all the marketing and promoting that PTX & Home Free get. However, what they DO have is 100% creative freedom to do *whatever* they want. They put their heart and soul into EVERYTHING they do, and you’ll see & hear what I mean as you react to more of their music. Welcome to the bottomless rabbit hole that is VoicePlay! You’re gonna love it down here!

I would like someone to check out and react to another acapella band/group of 10 men. They started out together years ago, way before Voiceplay or Pentatonix, they still perform live stage performances and a few videos. The name to search for is Straight No Chaser. They do/did everything thing, funny, dramatic, theater, movie scores and have fun with them in most cases. The live shows are hard to hear because of the live audiences but still worth checking out. Again look for Straight No Chaser.

Subscribing to watch your VP journey! Also check out Geoff Castellucci’s youTube channel (he’s their bass). He has some amazing songs there!
With Halloween coming soon, you should be told that VoicePlay basically owns Halloween. But Geoff does a lot of ‘spooky’ too! Don’t miss his cover of “Monster Mash”!

I can only imagine what Monster Mash would sound like. I'm definitely going to have to do that one come Halloween season!

Just my opinion.... I've tried 2 of your reactions... you are really LOUD! And when you talk over the song it's too distracting. Good luck!
