Countries shouldn't be allowed to refuse taking back the their own people, no matter what criminal activity they did.

That's generally the international agreement. But therein lies the rub; the aforementioned needs to meet with one proviso, that the subject be positively identified by a passport. Many of the clandestines already know this so they purposely destroy their passports, thus preventing French authorities from shipping them back forcibly to their origins.

Hard if you try to come in legally, so many hoops to jump through just to visit these days
Instead of repeatedly asking for passport's and then having to search for it, make it a law if you cannot produce your passport upon request, or at least a photocopy so they can verify your status, make it automatic deportation within a week and you go to a holding facility so you cannot run. I guarantee all legal Visa holders will make sure they know exactly where their passport's are( in a safe place) and would have several photocopies as backup's at their house, one at work, one with a friend

not entirely sure how the UK law is written, but in pretty much all of Europe and many countries elsewhere, if you are legally in the country and not a citizen, you're required to carry the documentation that prove your right to stay at all times, no matter if that is visa, asylum, residency, or whatever. If you cannot present it when requested, you'll be spending some time in a cell
Deported to where. Without a passport there's no way to verify.

That way there is no need to have courts allow it (as it's British territory), and I bet a lot of people will suddenly be able to arrange to get their papers in no time. I bet that would stop the boats pretty rapidly.

The messed up thing is that the driver is also held responsible. They get massive fines and they can lose their license, and the illegal is let go.
I believe drivers should be responsible to check whether there are illegals in their trucks, otherwise lots of the drivers can commit in people smuggling or human trafficking without consequences
They failed to secure their trucks. Not just humans, but that can open up to weapons and drugs being transported too. They should be held liable for negligence.

I did the census enumerator 2 seasons, 1990 & 2000. Many people wouldn't open doors or be afraid to be interviewed thinking we were immigration officers in plainclothes. They need to do it every 5 yrs instead of 10. So much accumulated in ten years. I'm sure they have better methods of keeping track of citizens than then.
There is solution for those who fail to report once a month - instead of them reporting or not reporting, border force should make regular check ups on them. I know it is impossible to do it daily or few days a week, but at least twice a week would make many of them think twice about running away as the chance of finding out fast will be alot bigger for border force. The reporting procedure is more in their favor then in favor of border force as they can be anywhere and do god knows what between the dates of reporting.

It is the truck drivers' fault for not checking the trunk. Moreover if the truck drivers are not fined, many of them will commit in people smuggling aka let the illegals on intentionally with some pay😂
the truck driver and owner are responsible for everything loaded onto the truck, no matter if it's goods or people. The driver is required to ensure his cargo is secure and check it every time he intends to move the truck after it's been parked, thus it's his own fault if he ends up with people aboard because he didn't check the load properly. There are cases where drivers check their truck, notice the illegals, and notify the authorities, they just never show that on this show. Whenever they say "they got a tip", it's usually from the drivers that notice something's off.

How do you prove someone to belong to a certain country, if he/she do not have any document? That is the crux.
What the police should do is to run scam lorries to bait the clandestines. That is, have a bunch of lorries appear to be lax in security, allow them to secret themselves aboard and then, instead of driving onto the ferry, transport them 200 miles eastward into France. Or have a special ferry that sails to Morroco, where the lorries are driven off and then donated to the Morrocan government. The drivers then take a flight back to France.

I am an American citizen and I have been in UK for hundreds of times. I had a company there, I still go for business time to time. What I don’t understand why so many people want to immigrate to UK. There is very few job opportunities. Especially London is dangerous like in US. Life is very expensive and income is low. Lastly and most importantly the weather is so terrible, the country is small…
