Still kinda new to the derricks myself. Only been working them for about 4 months now. I've been having hell with tall stands. I finally tried this technique and it worked amazing. Very next day the company I work for sent us brand new elevators. Needless to say this technique is no longer working. I wish they would send our old elevators back
I done that shit since the early 80's now at 60 I'm broken down and it's all over for me, what I tell kids nowadays is "take care of your back and body" I got on a brake handle in the 90's but I still worked 12hrs. a day for 320 days a year, when all the dust settled I was still as broke as ever, to you kids "stay as far away from rigs of all kinds and do yourself a huge favor" don't do it, find something that will give back in the long run, this is all I have to say
Sir i completed my graduation in petroleum engineering.Last year I had a back injury causing me a disc herniation. Can I survive in this oil field with this herniated disc.Plz reply
@@athulkumar7872 man you would go into the oil field with a degree in petroleum engineering. Trust me bro you ain’t gonna be lifting much you should be good 💀
At the speed the blocks are going I am not sure its possible to get your hands on the elevators anyway. I have run in with stands of 3 1/2" DP, with six lines strung on the blocks and that was quick enough. Good job doing it with blocks that are only 4 lines strung.
Dam why so much competition amongst each other he's doing it not many ppl can dude you should encourage each other but I guess it's a guy thing to competeb
Colton Dry there are several ways one is same as in this video just wait till elevators get closer to the collar. Or have the floor hands swing the elevators and a good operator will time the swing so elevators come straight to u. Or if the floor hands and the operator can’t get the swing right, you can make ur own swing and time It urself with the deadline it’s not recommended or allowed by most companies now days cuz if the tubing line has a wicker it could catch ur glove then u can’t let go and u will be fukd, or for any reason u don’t let go or glove get stuck u will loose ur hand at the least. Lastly u can latch overhand, or overhead same thing u hold the with one hand about even with ur shoulder then when the elevators pass ur hand push the pipe in and with ur other hand slap the elevator handle up a little and the direction needed to close them. When u do that the handle should be even or over ur head depends on where the collar clears the blocks
I like your working, but is it safety? I mean bad closing elevator. Because always we make sure if it´s ok. I means when it´s bad closed, the elevator can open by himself and pipes can fall in the hole. Please say me is it OK. I´m derrickman on europe rigs and I´m sure we have different rules.

You work the basket too? Must be nice working in warm weather all the time. Come to North Dakota money is great. Latch some shit with the wind blowing 25 mph at -20 a whole new level bro. Stands 57 to 66 ft . Come get some.
Bubba Jones shit wind gets up to 40-50mph over here with gusts up to 65-70 n I’ve never shut down us at to windy and yes worked basket to Brotha and I’ve worked with Wilson elevators all day and it’s just as easy, the trick is the hobble bro...... idk if you guys know bout that up there but down here in West Texas most people use them. It’s a rope tied to make a loop or circle and u go around one of the bealls, everyone I’ve ever seen put it on the left one... loop it around and pass it three itself and it leaves a loop towards the elevator handles and u wrap it around the handle. If it’s to tight the elevators will keep closing on their own, so unwrap it till the stay open and that’s it!! Just wait till elevators pass ur hands and push it in and try to hit the center of the elevators and they close easy as fuk!! If u aww ready know this well my bad for wasting ur time
Thats cool bro I know all about hobbling elevators but usually we only do that shit with slip types not regular eu tubing elevators. The slip types horns hang down thats why we hobble them to level them back up so easier to latch. I have never seen anyone hobble regular tubing elevators in North Dakota Wyoming utah or montana. Must be a texas thing. We call that no hand shit ghost latching. Like the videos got any clips of latching 65-67 footers with 2 hands or some belly button high ones?
Bubba Jones I used to work the derricks about 10 years ago when I had short stands I would have the operator bring it regular speed and soon as the elevators was going by the board I would throw the stand in the center of the elevators grab the bails and latch it that way
Jp Perez it’s all timing! U need a hoble for sure and to wait till elevators pass u. The taller the stand the longer u wait to slap it in! the closer to the collar the better
Jp Perez if u have any trouble just holla back at me! I’ve helped quite a few people on here through the years! I don’t even work on rigs anymore but still love and miss it sometimes.
all ur doing is hitting elevators, worms do that,u need to have elevators closed while moving up derrick and u open n latch pipe...then ill be impressed! chale!

all i do is grab the blocks and yank them to me and grab the elevators after they go by and lack em.
You take care of your elevators make sure they're washed and grease real good and they'll work elevators of part of your job rod elevators too😊

I totally agree
Thanx Robert west n I got another video where I am latching with both hands closing the elevators...same speed you should chek it out
Wish we had you on are rig, looks like I can learn a lot from you bro..
Are the elevators hobbled of to make the latch easier?
in ANDREWS, TEXAS and its a hopper with a pemco derrick. Thats a good call REICHMAN and i also watched your videos. NICE JOB
Is that west Texas or southeastern new Mexico?
U r the man I tried many times but not so fast
i broke out on a SKYTOP like two years ago and i loved it. and all my videos were taken last year in june
trying to get into this industry anyone have any tips

robert west I have a video latching at the same speed with hands look up Anthony Guerrero or Derrickhand Da King
what kind of rig is that?
Awesome
I got other videos under Anthony Guerrero or derrickman da king
Bad ass I will try that tomorrow
Is it all about timing? Because a lot of people Ik have hit their fingers on the elevator trying to do that?
Yes sir, wait till the elevators are higher up and closer to the collar
Is key a good pulling unit company to break out with
Yes
Fine job brother, I am from Odessa, worked the rigs. You are fast. Try it with 4 inch, 5 inch, 7 inch, even drill collars. I bet you slow down a bit.
George Holler yea I’d have to slow down but I’m sure I’d be able to latch as fast as the rig can run
Dam why so much competition amongst each other he's doing it not many ppl can dude you should encourage each other but I guess it's a guy thing to competeb
Any tips on latching tall stands for a short derrick hand? New to,it and can't get it down

Colton Dry I have more videos using hands and one using the deadline

Colton Dry I did for 5 years and in 2015 I came to trucking
I like your working, but is it safety? I mean bad closing elevator. Because always we make sure if it´s ok. I means when it´s bad closed, the elevator can open by himself and pipes can fall in the hole. Please say me is it OK. I´m derrickman on europe rigs and I´m sure we have different rules.

I don't think it's a skytop. Looks like a pemco Derrick. Prob a Taylor or crown.
