    i remember being a worm and working derricks back in '81(Odessa). Young and stupid! And i remember that drill pipe being alot further out from the monkey board, we used a rope to lean out and secure the pipe before releasing, reeling it in, tripping out is what i remember. i was shaking like a leaf a couple of times, didn't stay long enough to get used to it.

    that round grating on the board is slippery when wet or snow . tied rags in it to get traction

    back in the 80s ( Hobbs NM ) working derrick . come to work and seeing black leg . good way to kill the day if your 9000 feet deep or on a fishing trip

    I think that may be an offshore rig, i have never seen that done without a rope , i worked Odessa Midland , the Permian Basin and a bit in Snyder , Patterson Rig 11 Cadillac, stainless steel dog houses, the bomb , baddest thing i ever saw was 96ft of 17" drill collars, truly wicked 21" surface bit , cut that string in less than 2 hours , freaking amazing
