  • This video covers basic bearing adjustment in Chris King hubs with one-piece axles. You'll need to perform this adjustment a few times as your new hubs break-in, and again in the first couple of rides after a bearing service. It's very simple and can often even be done on the bike!
    The only tool you'll need is a 2.5mm hex wrench.

    Thankyou for the demo and explanation - these videos from AVT actually help convinced me to buy the Chris King Hubs from your shop. (yup .. online order to Singapore!) As a relative bike noob it's good to have a video that is easily accessible than trying to read a technical manual or rely on an LBS mechanic for small procedures such as these ie., adjustments etc.

    Hey guys, the technique shown in the video is actually only correct for ISO or classic hubs that use a needle bearing in the driveshell. All R45 and the new centerlock MTB hubs have a spring sleeve that has to be compressed by pushing on the driveside axle end WHILE adjusting the bearing preload.

      Seriously thanks for posting this!! Just wrote to Chris King and this what they replied (gotta love them) >"There is a small internal spring that allows the bearings to be properly preloaded with our new twin bearing design drive shell. Yes we have eliminated the roller bearing. The best way to set preload is adjust it when the wheel in in the bike. You will want to tighten the adjustment clamp on the non drive side of the hub until it stops. Then you will take a 2.5mm Allen wrench and insert it into the helper hole and turn the clamp an additional 1/4 turn tighter to set preload."

      @@MaquinasDePalomitas Yeah, They introduced this "twin bearing" architecture when they came out with the R45 hubs quite a while ago. You will find in the R45 manual that they recommend compressing the spring sleeve manually before & while adjusting the collar. They recommend either by pushing the hubshell towards the driveside while in the bike or pushing the driveside axle end firmly with your palm when the hub is out of the bike. Now that they have introduced this layout into ALL the current centerlock hubs, I feel like this is a point of confusion that will come up quite often. That's why I made my original comment, because this video goes through the proper steps for the ISO/Classic hubs, but is showing an R45, spring sleeve type as an example.

    Could i use 1 rear hub 142 mm in 1 demo 8 that requires 135 mm hub..how? Should i change the rear axle or just remove the caps..thank you

    I just bought a chrisking hub, why is my chris king hub not loud and feels very quiet?

      Hey hub is quiet as well it’s only noisy when in a stand
