Happy birthday, Carlos mum. Lovely to know her secret, she doesn't look 85. The cake was beautiful and looked delicious. I'm so glad that Indie is recovering so well. We just had our pomeranian Lilypup spayed. Is so important to get them done . Not just to stop unwanted puppies but serious health issues as they get older. In UK we don't get so much involvement with our pets going in for surgery at our vets. We definitely don't get video, but it would be cool. Thank you for another awesome vlog ❤️

Carlo is like my husband--i can take him out for a simple, quick errand and end up coming home several hours later because of his chatting with people. I hope that Indie will recover quickly. I hate taking my cats to the vet. It breaks my heart when I have to leave them there for some procedure. Loved seeing all of the food and pastries!! Have a great week.

By far, the best part of this GREAT video was Aunt Rosalie. She seems very sweet. I loved seeing how she lives (oven before the house!). I wish we could see more of what her and Carlos’ parents life is like. Good job you two! 🌸

Happy Birthday to the beautiful lady! What a relief to see Indy well and happy. Here in my country when the vet sterilize a female dog they came with a collar around the neck to avoid the dog to break the stitches of the wound. We have to care good care of her for a week. I saw Indy very well and normal.

One thing I love about the Italian's as I spent a lot of time with the Italian family is their focus on keeping such an immaculate home and food. Preparing fresh, wholesome food each day.. Indie was so happy to be back home she was going back and forth to you both. Bless her. I hope she is fine after the op. Thank you Nicki, for doing the right thing !! The stray population all over the world is heartbreaking and inhumane. The last thing that is needed is 10, 12 puppies.
The sunshine of the day is glorious, the waterfall is delicately lovely, and the sandwich from the deli looks hearty & tasty. All the green plants do look greener and more lush after all those rains. I love the flavors of fennel & oranges together. The frittata looked wonderful. It is nice to eat out in the open air with loved ones and share such a simple, healthy picnic feast. I love that Aunt Rosalia is part of the family gardening tradition. Her peas look like ropes of jade necklaces. How clever to build the house around the oven you want to use. She cooks for herself and seems to do pretty well on her own, though I'm sure the younger generations make certain she has all she needs. It's good to have friends and neighbors who want to chat and that you are woven into one another's lives. Carlo's parents even have a kitchen that is welcoming. The dogs are accomplished travellers at this point or they are both dreaded backseat drivers (as we call passengers who have to instruct the driver at every turn). We have all our dogs and cats "fixed," because it is irresponsible with the number of stray, feral, abandoned pets to allow more to come along. It is difficult on neighborhoods and even in the wilds surrounding human habitations. You are wise to do this. In the States, the pets are taken into a small surgery and then when they've awakened they are sent home with the owners with any pertinent instructions. It sounds very civilized and less coldly medical in some ways with how it's done in Italy. Intubate. The pizza looks delish. Carlo, New Yorkers tend to fold their slices of pizza as you do, to double it and make it easier to hold. Choosing? Just order one of each! LOL. They almost all looked tempting. How lovely to celebrate Nonna Adele's birthday. It is good to be grateful for each year completed well and to celebrate that. Indie could tear the stitches walking down the steps. So you, Nicki, got to the birthday party to film it seems? Look at all those pastries and sweets for everyone to enjoy. I love that you all sang to her and candles were lit and blown-out, as with anyone's birthday. She has a strong smile still at age 85 years.
In America you drop your dog or cat at vet and they spayed or neutered your animal also we take our dog to get their shots yearly and I agree with you on keeping the pet population down with spayed or neutered them. Hope you get your car back soon. Happy birthday to Carlo mama & Skye.
Thats really cool that you get to stay with your animals while they're going under in Italy. In Canada - we drop off our pets and the vet takes it from there. You don't usually get to see them until they're ready to be released (unless they're really having separation anxiety in which case the vet might let you go back there and say hi). Which is a little sad to be honest because they're going through so much and they don't get to see you for a pretty long time.
Anywho! I like that you can have the vet come to your home to do routine operations. That would not be a thing in Canada because .. regulations I guess?
Agree. It's same here in the U.S. as in Canada, or at least, this has been my experience my whole life. I wish I could be with my pets until the sedation kicks in and they fall asleep for their surgeries.

I’m so happy you’re a responsible pet owner. I used to live in American Samoa and at the time, no one spayed or neutered their pets. There were so many strays in terrible condition. Mean wild dogs. As we were there they Gina hired a vet to come to the island. My husband was part of a program that went from village to village to sterilize all the village dogs and cats. It’s really the most realistic and responsible thing to do

Yes Nicki, it's called intubation when the e-tube is placed at time of surgery. In America, surgery is done in a sterile environment just like they do for humans. Owner's are not permitted into the surgery suite. Also, owners do not assist in any way with the procedure. Owners want the same health care for their pets as they get for themselves. Indie needs to keep her exercise down while she is healing. It's common for young dogs/cats to develop a suture reaction at the incision site if they run around too much. That reaction looks like a large bump at the incision site. It's tender until it gets drained or allowed to resolve on its own. .....As for the sweet shop, OMG!!!! YUM!! I would spend all day choosing too lol! Thank you for the lovely video. Hug Indie for me please and tell her she's a good girl

Hi Nicki - I stumbled upon your vlog after looking for content for my 88 year old Mum to watch who is in love with Positano but sadly not able to visit again. Wonderful content and much in awe of how much you have achieved over the years. It’s not an easy achievement!
I wish more people would be educated to the problems of dogs not being fixed. We have issues here as well, but in some areas, volunteers try to get the dog or cat to neuter and find a home. Yet, too many aren't lucky to end up in no kill shelters. Happy belated birthday 🎂 to your mom, Carlo. Lovely video.

more picnics in 2023! It has been a long, hard & wet winter here! The word you were looking for is intubate. I think it is a good idea to "fix" your pets. So may strays will become abused or starve.

Desexing Dogs is so important. We also have way too many homeless dogs in Rescue Groups. Too many backyard breeders. I am in Australia and it is encouraged to do the right thing, yet many ppl are too lazy and uncaring to do so. Good on you Nicki and Carlo.
I think the only difference here in the states is we call it to neuter the animal as opposed to sterilizing the animal. I like that you get to stay. Here they don’t let us stay. I love this log of your Daily or should I say what you did that day, like a journal. Carlo is as beautiful as ever. If I were to express a preference I would love to see more interaction with your family and friends. I just thought the aunt was a hoot!
Thank you for neutering. In the shelter at which I volunteer, we won’t adopt out without neutering. It’s the MSPCA, which I assume is the Massachusetts’ version of the RSPCA except it’s by state. We have our own vets so it’s not an option.
