MK9 really had the whole world feeling like that scene in Dumb and Dumber. Just when I thought you couldn’t possibly get any dumber, you turn around and COMPLETELY REDEEM YOURSELF
I was in my second year in college, and I went back to my hometown to buy the 100 dollar version, consisting of the game, the book of concept art, the bookshelves with scorp spearing sub, and two codes for classic sub and ermac. I wasn't able to redeem the codes or play online until like a whole month later, because of the PS3 cyber attacks, but there was so much single player and local multiplayer content to tide me over. I adore this game, and didn't care how broken it was, because it was so much fun. That is, until the krypt monster made me stay up the rest of the night.
Haven’t played this since 2011! And just ordered a second hand PS Vita and a copy of this game to play it again! Who would’ve thought this would live on as the defining moment for MK as a franchise!
My first MK would be Deadly Alliance. Although I played 3 & 4, i don’t have any memories of those since I was super young. I remember my first time watching the MK:DA intro, my father being right next to me. He got so upset that Lui Kang got his neck snapped by Shang Tsung!! Memories! I LOVE MK!
MK vs DC was my introduction to Mortal Kombat. My dad brought home the game and I had no idea who they were but as I started to play those characters I was immediately hooked. Right after playing that game, I was able to play UMK3 and watched the first movie. Before my dad even told me about the sequel (I can see why he took a while to tell me) I had already watched the first one a bunch of times. So ofc, when I learned about MK9, I couldn’t wait. Once I got the game, it was all I was playing. MK rn is my favorite game franchise. I’ve played most of the games in the franchise by now, including the first 3.

@@ViktorKruger99 It is on the Vita, which is actually a good port. Runs well and has content the console ones didn't have. Only problem is a lot of people don't have a Vita lol.
Did they take it off?
I bought it and have it on steam but it was a FPS mess and my hardware outperformed rec specs.
@@ViktorKruger99 It is actually available on Vita. Devs surely forgot about it lmao because krueger is there and everything
Damn I'm old I remember watching you guys back then
To this day, Kung-Lao's fatality from MK9 remains my favorite for how brutal it is.
Mine'd Raidens from MK 9
Oh, yeah. MK9 is one of the BEST MK games of all time. I still play it here and there.
I got a Ps3 this year just to play Mk9. I started at Mk10 and was my first fighting game. My 13yr old mind was blown how fun it was. Now I've player Mk1, 2, 3, Ultimate 3, 4, Trilogy, Deadly Alliance, 10, 11 and now 9 and all I have to say is "in 2021 the game is still a masterpiece and truly deserves to be called the best Mk game." Now we have a movie coming out. If it wasn't for this channel my love for this series would not be as high as it is. Theres just something about watching and listening to people who love something as much as you do. It just hits different
Happy 10th anniversary MK9! Those days were the best in gaming! As one comment has already said, this game needs to get remastered for PS4 & maybe PS5 too with rollback netcode, too bad the MK9 servers got shut down for PS3 in March last year I miss those days :(
Mortal Kombat has always been and will always be! One of the best year. My son was born and Mortal Kombat 9 came out! Nice Video!
And just a few days before Mk11 anniversary - let’s see what the future has in store 🙏
And also just mere days after the MKX anniversary. April is just a perfect month in the year.
KP3!
also the same day as the mk movie! such a big month april is for mk
Game introduced me to competitively trying to play fighting games, and got me into FGC tournaments.
MK9 basically kicked the Fighting Game Renaissance into full gear. And we've been thankful ever since.
I have too much love for mk9, really great times.
2011 was the best year for gaming, especially fighting games. Blazblue, MvC3, MK9, KoF 13, so many good games.
My first MK would be Deadly Alliance. Although I played 3 & 4, i don’t have any memories of those since I was super young. I remember my first time watching the MK:DA intro, my father being right next to me. He got so upset that Lui Kang got his neck snapped by Shang Tsung!! Memories!
I LOVE MK!
10 years.....
I was not prepared to be attacked in this way...
Love that you have chosen KI soundtrack to be played in this video
KI soundtrack in MK9 video. Two of the BEST fighting games ever made...
I never lost faith in Mortal Kombat. Having said that MK9 was probably the best MK game if all time.
Man, 2011 to 2014 were such magical years for the FGC 😢
The 360 era of gaming was the best. Something about it was magical.
@@mostverticalproductions4808 I'll tell you what - no eSports
7th gen was a mixed bag for me to be honest.
@@-PVL93- what are you talking about? Esports were extremely prevalent during the 360 era, at least in the FGC.
@@bungiesblueflames FGC esports barely was a thing before Capcom Pro Tour 2014
MK vs DC was my introduction to Mortal Kombat. My dad brought home the game and I had no idea who they were but as I started to play those characters I was immediately hooked. Right after playing that game, I was able to play UMK3 and watched the first movie. Before my dad even told me about the sequel (I can see why he took a while to tell me) I had already watched the first one a bunch of times. So ofc, when I learned about MK9, I couldn’t wait. Once I got the game, it was all I was playing. MK rn is my favorite game franchise. I’ve played most of the games in the franchise by now, including the first 3.
Such a beautiful love letter to such an amazing game.
Covered a lot of things I was talking about in chat today in twitch chat.
The feels are real and this is still my fav fighting game to date.
Your boi from chat: PureBornGamer.
12:40 (whistles) Could you imagine MK11 Sheeva wearing that outfit? Good luck playing the game with one hand, fellas!
MK 9 still is so awesome to this day. I've been trying to find more online players on xbox 360 and steam. Just gotta send private match invite on 360. Expert towers are great fun on MK9 too.
MK9 was an amazing game it really brought the Mortal Kombat Games back to a newer fanbase.
I miss this game so much!! I love it!! My main was Kitana and she was amazing!! I can't believe this game is endlessly better than MK11 in every possible way!!
Except graphic and animation
great vid, always love hearing people gush about important games to them :)
I remember knowing about this game for a while but was never able to get it, I finally found a cheap copy at best buy in 2013 and easily put over 700 hours into it, this game got me into the whole world of fighting games and I will always be thankful to this game for that
Wow 10 years... i played this game 2 years afters release (my mom didnt want me playimg it til i was in highschool) and it sparked my love for learning fighting games. Smash is what took me to offline competitions since i was too young to attend anythimg when i played mk9 but man did i love that game. This is the first time i'll admit it but i was carried by my laggy wifi lol.
I dont really play any other mk game cuz they just arent scratching that itch that mk9 did. But my little brother who is 10 years younger than me has shown interesting in learning competitive mk11 and im more than happy to guide him in the right direction. Fighting games have changed my life for the better and i cant wait to see it better my little brother the same way if bettered me.
Crazy how this game was released in 2011 and is still great to go back to!
Nothing beats the memory of me going into a GameStop as a 11 year old with such excitement then walking out with a PS3 copy but boy I was not ready...truly got lost with this game, if I could relieve it all over again...in a heartbeat.
Appreciation videos are the best kind of videos, and this game definitely deserves the appreciation it gets. I remember the hype before it got released, and I played this game so much when it came out. Still my favorite MK game to this day.
MK9 was the reboot that was badly needed
years later and i finally learn what PND means
@Need For Speed Master Picadilly Nerf Demanders
I barely played MK9, but I do remember being a kid and kind of being fascinated with it when I played it at my cousins house. Then when all the hype for MK11 started I fell in love with the series
Makes sense that the Killer Instinct 1 soundtrack plays during a MK video ;)
I can't possibly explain how much I love this game.
To THINK this was made 10 years ago... good times.
I remember having a lot of fun playing tag with my sister, mum and dad, along with deadly alliance if we got bored
i remember seeing Kung Lao's fatality in the trailer and thinking "Shut up and take my money!" it was just such a nostalgic throwback to a fatality that gave me nightmares when I was 8.
MK9 & MK Trilogy are my favorites - still play them to this day!
I remember the absolute hype I felt when the MK9 Shadows trailer came out.
And the game absolutely lived up to my hype and expectations
MKX/MK11 felt nerfed when compared to MK9. The way you were able to juggle combos so seamlessly in MK9 made the combat soooo smooth and fun!
Mk 9 was the fighting game that got me into fighting games. I remember watching Vman's videos(if you haven't checked him out yet you should his combos are crazy) and those were what convinced me to buy the game. I have so many memories of this game this video brings me back. Thanks
Plays KI Music while talking about MK. Truely a fan of Gorey fighting games. UwU
I thought I recognized Cinders stage music, and the stage music for Spinal.
I was... 15? When MK9 got announced. It was a whirlwind of hype - I remember frequenting forums and discussing every little bit of information there (As well as winning a competition to write a "journalistic report" for all the available information, speculation, rumors, etc) - but also IRL, friends and family with whom I had played UMK3 or 4 or Armageddon or Shaolin Monks, all excited to see what was next.
I saved up money as best I could to afford a PS3 just for MK9... it was well worth it!
I grew up with lots of siblings and cousins so MK was a staple for us since deadly alliance.
This was my 1st true Mortal Kombat game I owned and played my brains out with!found out I like playing as Ermac and my best friend loved Baraka!
Man when it came out we were just so hyped to get a new MK, we had no idea it’d be the best in the series
Couldn't have said it better myself
One of the better entries. The graphic style and roster 👏
Cool to hear that Ryan Hart crossed paths with you and invited you into the offline tournament scene. He's a legend of the FGC in general
This is one of the first MK I played, so sad it’s not on steam anymore
U can still buy steam key for mk9
also you can play on parsec with servicable netcode probably
Stumbled across this on my recommended, I think we had a match in a tournament in Norwich way back when? It was over rather quickly, pretty sure you got a flawless! Great to see your journey and your successes - good on ya!
+ Great kontent on the channel 🤜🤛
I havent played serious before i played mk9. But when i picked up the game i was hooked, it looked amazing with the xray and how it was fast paste with the dashing, i loved how the combo’s worked, the resets and heavy execution combo’s 💯🔥!! They kept the basics the same with mkx and added running and interactables, Mk9 and Mkx are the most fun and satisfaying MortalKombat games i’ve played👌🏼💯 i had so much fun with tag team fights, i wish they would bring that back🙏🏼
I had Armageddon as a KID. My dad remembered the MK games as a kid so he grabbed it for our PS2. I was shocked he let us play a game so violent. So when MK9 dropped i was so hyped. I even bought the MK1-3 Xbox arcade.
My friends never wanted to play against me because they played casually and i was addicted to this game. So tag team was great. 2v1. Baraka was my guy
Love the KI music over the MK footage. Just shows how good that franchise's soundtrack is, and we can only dream that the MK franchise will sometime have just as good music.
Just looking at MK9 gameplay for 3 seconds makes me realize how much better it is compared to MK11.
MK9 has personality.
One of my top 5 MK games is getting some love, it had it's upsides and downsides but still good though.
But this is when I stopped investing in competitive MK, so when I play it was more of a casual experience, the MK games that I invested in was UMK3-MKA.
Yes! This right here is what The4thSnake doesn't, CANNOT understand, MK was pretty much dead and done after MK vs DC, and this game was a dream come true for every MK fan. I had a similar experience to yours, however i was the one screaming in my living room from so much excitement when i saw the trailer for the first time, trying to explain to my cousin what was it that i was so hyped about
Who’s the 4th snake and what doesn’t he understand?
That guy's venom for 9 completely clouds his vision, you only need to hear him talk about the gameplay to understand this. He makes a ton of great points about the lore, but I feel like he'll never be able to actually give a shot to this game
@@TheFaisalano It's a guy on youtube obsessed with MK lore who hates the NRS era with a passion, i like his analysis but his arrogance and saltiness over NRS fanboys is a turn off. Look, i don't like MKX and MK11 that much either, but he goes overboard and calls anybody who remotely likes those games a stupid moron and acts like the supreme authority on MK lore
@@rodrigomarcondes5857 people getting upset over fighting game lore will never not be insanely funny to me like touch some grass - these stories do not take themselves seriously (and shouldn’t) they’re cool vehicles for cool characters and cool fight scenes
@@pilot3605 agreed
Man, I have always wondered what PND meant in your channel, I feel enlightened and crazy that Ryan Hart got you into the competitive scene, this game was the pinnacle of MK, where the crazy Ideas complemented the legacy and lore and familiarity. Almost everything that you could wish in a game is in here. I bought it one week after release and it is one of those transformative games. Loved it and Thanks for the memories
Hearing the Killer Instinct music while watching MK clips had my head in the clouds
Oh wow dude rocked a Bob Ross hair do 10 years ago haha. As someone who grew up on MK and during the 80's and 90's, I can easily say MK 9 is one of the best games in the entire series, top 3 for sure and lightyears better than MK 11 for many, many reasons. I hope MK 12 goes back to Mk 9 like features and gameplay honestly.
I remember how Mortal Kombat 9 destroyed the 10 year long dominance of Street fighter in 2011 when it was released. Everyone was playing Street Fighter 4 at the time and when MK9 came out everything changed.
In my own personal opinion, this MK still has the best Character Roster in the series. And I'm talking about quality, not size.
1:25 it actually WAS my first lol
Now backwards compatible on xbox!
I started playing this game in 2014, my dad taught me and I started playing since then
Wow I still remember being hyped watching the trailer and watching DashieXP skit about MK9 parodies.
Great video, man. Your story about Jake being hyped out of his mind with his laptop made me laugh for some reason. 😆
