Lex was such a weird character. I played a lot of him and he had such a goofy match up spread against the top tiers where he had stuff like the Zod matchup but was also one of the few with an advantage vs Aquaman
I dont know how feasible this is but PLEASE make a part 2 to this. Its so fun seeing just one part of a character blown up and put in focus on a competitive level, and this video is the perfect stage for that type of content.

The Ice clone in MKX is so broken Sub zero players finally faced a fair fight i didnt play the game the time Alien came out but i was glad when i heard it.

Who remembers MKX pre-nerfed Shinnok (Imposter) having an infinite against Jax? Steal ground-pound, which leaves Jax in a state where all you can do is block afterwards, use said-stolen move that’s unblockable and sends him in the air, repeat.

It’s theoretically either the arcade 1.0 or arcade beta, but no surviving versions of that exist, and every other version tested - including SNES I believe - you don’t start close enough to actually do it frame 1. Most likely, it’s a myth coming from someone who walked forward first and the opponent didn’t jump fast enough.
There's also launch Superman vs. Ares in Injustice 1 since Superman could just put Ares in a block infinite at round start with F23 -> breath if he doesn't have meter to armor through his attacks. And even then Superman's trait breaks armor anyway. And if he did manage to send Superman full screen and broke the block infinite, he would still zone Ares out.
Its funny you mentioned "imagine a big character with struggling with zoning vs an amazing zoner" when Tager vs Hazama was so bad in this fashion that it made Mike Z create Skullgirls out of pure salt
Not to mention Tager has the worst Mobility of any FG character (why need movement when you have literal magnet hands) and Hazama as some of if not the best mobility.

You got normal fundy characters and normal archetypes, then you have a grappler with magnet hands, a rush down character that gets progressively more broken with a full screen one button instant projectile, a puppet character with solo unblockables, a set play character that flash banged you, etc.
Im a big fan of his Bulky Warsuit personally. But if you want a quicker Lex, I think if it would be kinda cool if they gave him his Superman inspired suit from the comics. Basically a sleeker Iron Man esque suit with a cape. But if that would be the case Id rather see Steel.

Solomon Grundy vs raven was another weirdly one sided match up because of how simple it was. Raven had one string that would make her grab immune that was safe on block and edged out any of Grundy's normals while pushing him backwards. since she was airborne it also made her unable to be grabbed by his trait, his walking corpse, that tracking ground move, or his other command grab too. Grundy could technically back dash out of range of the string but to do so you'd have to be at a very specific range since the string advanced and Grundy had a terrible back dash. If you got hit by it, you'd get sent full screen and then have to slowly make your way back in again. Really tough. The only nice thing was, if memory serves, Grundy could stuff and or armor through all of her wakeup options, should you happen to score a knockdown. Grundy vs hawk girl also sucked, since Grundy couldn't do anything to get hg out of the air

I was a Black Canary main in I2 and while she struggled against zoners in general, there was no more unfair matchup than her versus Deadshot. It was a lot like Zod vs Luthor except Black Canary is small with tiny limbs and no projectiles. I used to have people who I’d just beat switch to him, despite having little or no experience, beat me just because it was all but impossible to get in.
What I got from the number 5 clip is that captain cold is what I call a snowball fighter. They take a little set up but once they get it their unstoppable
The one I suffered through was playing Nightwolf in the first few patches of MK9, where Jax had a blockstring infinite on only Nightwolf for some reason. One of his strings was just bugged to be airtight into itself, on only Nightwolf. Worse, if memory serves, they didn't patch it for a long time.
MK_REO Made a video on that Jax string. You should check it out. And just to let you know, that Jax string being broken only applies to characters with huge hurtbox
Its too bad that there's no "good character against bad character" because launch Bane vs Deathstroke was unwinnable. He couldn't even jump the projectiles because his muscles were filled with helium, venom was real bad back then, and his dash was so slow that you couldn't do it between projectiles. If he got in, Deathstroke had so many escape options and Bane would have to risk losing all of his pressure just to avoid getting blown back to full screen, and that's a big "if" when his fastest button was 9 frames and his best button was 11. That's not even mentioning that Deathstroke could literally backdash away faster than Bane was able to dash towards him. Or launch Superman vs Bane, where Bane didn't even get the benefit of armor and lord forbid you eat the 82% heat beam into 2 frame super. I'm so glad Bane got better but man it was hard to justify being a Bane player in vanilla injustice 1.

The most important thing about Johnny cage you need to know in mk9 is that he's one of the few characters who had random hitstuns in his kit. Which means that fighting JC wasn't just about learning the matchup but pure luck as well. Sometimes it was your turn, but sometimes not and you had no way of knowing when was the time to hit back. Really weird character .
The last clip reminded me of playing IJ2 a lot. I used to be a scarecrow main…. My brother was a deadshot, darkseid and Batman main, I never was more in love with the crouch position in my life. I was stuck crouching for at least minutes at a time. It was aggravating
Watching a rushdown/grappler character struggle for almost a whole minute to get in on a zoner, only get sent back to fullscreen in one hit - or even on block - always hurts my soul.
NRS zoning is bizarre. It’s so much worse than zoning in any other fighter. By a landslide. The lack of projectile clashing, the goofy jumps causing your toes to get clipped, the damage, and most NRS zoners having reliable get off me tools. Zoning in NRS games is the only time I hate zoning lol.
I had multiple experiences against sheevas where, because I played jaded jade at the time, I spent the entire game time... Entire... In command run. When I had meter I could cancel to kick for punish, but without my timing had to be right to somersault and start running again before they landed again. It wasn't fun, besides knowing I ruined their day the same way they were trying to ruin others lmao.
You should also add goro vs tremor, after tremor flexes, he punishes every single Sting and special, goros projectile is so slow it's impossible to stop him flexing up.

i loved the sheeva stomp section, while it was kinda a broad exception learning about it was cool. also when the topic of "fighting game clip that ends the moment a character reaches their win condition" came up a while back, i really wanted to just post the tournament zod vs. lex luthor fight but it ends the moment "ROUND ONE, BEGIN" plays

Zod as a character and many of his abilities make him one of my favourite looking character in fighting games so far i just never understood why some things on his h Kit were so OP when abused laser should never push back on block for example or push just one spot and that jumping ball projectile should have more recovery to it. I was always playing him normally and his combos where so fun and great looking to this day.
Remember according to the FGC using Zod and constant projectiles like a chump is zoning not spam. Pretty sad that even in tourneys this is commendable.
the only grace i give to zoning characters is if the need to sacrfice something to zone, or the input is difficult enough to make spamming difficult. any other reason and zoners are just trash tow atch and oppressive to play against.
I have a question about counter picks. What if someone just doesn’t choose a character because they’re waiting for the other to pick? I feel like that would get pretty problematic
I don't play competitive MK specifically but in any FG tourney I've ever been in, the rule is that whoever won picks their character 1st so that the loser can counterpick
There is one MKX I think is even worse. What can exactly High Tech Jacqui do vs Master of Storms Raiden? The dude can simply throw static trap behind and static trap front the whole match without Jacqui ever being able to do anything. Her only chance is getting the first hit. I remember watching that matchup in one of Destroyers Tournaments, and the dude was beyond bamboozled. He said it was the first 10-0 matchup he had ever seen.
If ur execution is perfect with zod it's a 9-1 or worst. 1 hit and lex loses because if you instant air slow ball properly he can't use a move full screen without eating a hit. He can only walk like a millimeter forward. By the time he gets any ground zod olops trait and gets chip. If ur good enough you can continuously instant air while doing trait slaps so there is no opening. Lex basically has to get on and stay on immediately and 200-0

The biggest thing about nrs zoning is that projectiles do not clash, which results in trade battles rather than projectile battles.
Also the blockstun and hitstun on the projectiles is craaazy.

Maybe not that relevant competetivly but i remember in mkx imposter shinnok vs ferra/torr was pretty bad cause every reset was just a free 19% grab for shinnok
Launch impostor vs jax was unwinnable in theory as shinnok stole the unblockable ground pound for a while

Kit were so OP when abused laser should never push back on block for example or push just one spot and that jumping ball projectile should have more recovery to it.
I was always playing him normally and his combos where so fun and great looking to this day.

Remember according to the FGC using Zod and constant projectiles like a chump is zoning not spam. Pretty sad that even in tourneys this is commendable.

the only grace i give to zoning characters is if the need to sacrfice something to zone, or the input is difficult enough to make spamming difficult. any other reason and zoners are just trash tow atch and oppressive to play against.

I have a question about counter picks. What if someone just doesn’t choose a character because they’re waiting for the other to pick? I feel like that would get pretty problematic
I don't play competitive MK specifically but in any FG tourney I've ever been in, the rule is that whoever won picks their character 1st so that the loser can counterpick
winner is always locked into the character they won with. Say Lex vs Zod and Zod wins match 1, the Zod cannot pick anyone else for match 2

There is one MKX I think is even worse. What can exactly High Tech Jacqui do vs Master of Storms Raiden? The dude can simply throw static trap behind and static trap front the whole match without Jacqui ever being able to do anything. Her only chance is getting the first hit. I remember watching that matchup in one of Destroyers Tournaments, and the dude was beyond bamboozled. He said it was the first 10-0 matchup he had ever seen.

I think NRS loves to make zoners because they just aren't creative martially. Stiff animations, so injustice was a zone game.
If ur execution is perfect with zod it's a 9-1 or worst. 1 hit and lex loses because if you instant air slow ball properly he can't use a move full screen without eating a hit. He can only walk like a millimeter forward. By the time he gets any ground zod olops trait and gets chip. If ur good enough you can continuously instant air while doing trait slaps so there is no opening. Lex basically has to get on and stay on immediately and 200-0

Atleast handoffs looked neat and are hard to do. You could probably learn to wobble in like 5 - 10 minuites.
