    It could also be because the floater in the expansion tank is stuck!

    IV HAD THIS and changed the sensor but still alarm came on. but there is an internal sensor which can only be changed by changing the whole unit.

    Does the thermostat housing contain the switch/spring in there or is it located in the thermostat itself, got the same problem on my Astra 1.6 SRI petrol 2014, with the radiator cooling fan constantly running, was thinking just replacing the stat and not the whole housing as also the temperature sensor on the top of the thermostat is bent and coolant is leaking from the side of it. cani get away with just changing the thermostat and not the whole unit as the actually housng itself looks fine.

    I have a problem with the coolant because it looks like it is boiling. (I posted the video on my profile). Now I have replaced the coolant tank with the cap and sensor, I have a new water pump and a new thermostat. and it looks practically the same as in my video

    How do u get the coolant bottle out seem to have a clip on bottom

  • @geoffg46
    @geoffg46 4 года назад +2

    U need to change the tank AND sensor,, it's the tank that is faulty as the built in float fails causing warning light to come on

    • @GraveCareMaintenanceServices
      @GraveCareMaintenanceServices 3 года назад +3

      the tank can be cleaned out with boiling water and bicarbonate of soda, soak the tank for a few hours then give it a good rinse, the float will be free to slide up and down with the height of the water, no need to buy a new tank

      Have a look at the dipstick, it should smell like hot oil and be translucent brown or black. If its creamy, it means Head Gasket failure. Also, have a look on the engine gearbox side, theres a housing near there underneath the header tank which is prone to leaking. Thats what I found.

    I have a leak on that coolant bridge on the right side of the engine. Had a garage try to replace the thermostat housing on the left, which was not true. What is the actual name of that part? Can’t seem to find anything called a coolant bridge?!

      They're junk. I also have a 1.4 Astra J and because of the cooling issue, it overheated and blew a head gasket. That was 1000 Euro fix. Car was serviced but mechanic failed to see that the coolant pump was faulty, because the car hadn't shown any issues. Now I'm just biding my time so I can sell it and get a decent car that's actually reliable.

      I have the exact same problem. After searching around it seems the thermostat housing is at fault, I'm getting the part and I'll change it this weekend. I'll let you know if it goes away. The main issue is that for this error there are 3 sensors that can cause it so it's either diagnostic at Vauxhall or take your chance to get lucky and change the right one

      Hello Melanie, I was just seeing this video and saw your comment. I have an Astra 2012 GTC, I have had the problem with the fan turning on and off previously.
      What seems to happen is that the coolant tank is located above a terminal box and as the coolant leaks out, it leaks onto this electronic box. when I took it in, they told me that the wires were corroded, due to the coolant on it, and once that was sorted, I never had the fan problem again. Worth giving it a check? Hope it helps

      @@dinmentor Hey, yes it did. I changed the thermostat (very easy job, remember to buy some coolant because you will detach a hose that goes in the radiator) and since then I didn't get the error and the radiator fan never vent to max rotation. I drove more than 5k km since then.

      Same replaced one thermostat and housing where the coolant was leaking myself, still leaking took to garage who said it was a cheap one so replaced at a cost of £330 didn’t believe them but went with it anyway and still loosing coolant constantly, among 2 other things I’ve replaced. On finance so can’t even get rid of the shitty thing.
