I literally just flew this today BOS LAX. The seats were very comfortable and the little detail in first was awesome! The tray table was great! The little storage next to you for your phone was great! I love Alaska.
I can’t speak from experience but while the Alaska product may not look as special as Virgin America, it still knocks the socks off European narrow body offerings. Wonderful work on this video.
when it Comes to meals and that is what i like on european flights like on BA in c/cl you get upfront a MENUCARD an Appetizer a HOT ENTREE real Dessert and French champagne like on LHR-HEL which is About a 2:30 min flight. @@Marco-wz3ff
I made a flight on Alaska late last year from SFO to PSP. Was fortunate enough to score a flight in one of the Virgin Am aircraft before it had been refit. One last "ahhhhhhh' in the white leather, motor driven legs-up recliners. I was just heart-broken when Alaska merged with Virgin Am - but happy to have had that one final moment.
Virgin America first class was THE best domestic first class. I think it was something like a 58" seat pitch. Even economy on VX was great....comfy seats, satellite TV, and you could order food and drinks thru the IFE and the flight attendant would bring it to you. This looks practically Soviet in comparison, although those trays were cool. Looks like Delta for me from now on. Great video...subscribed!
Great review, but one question: Do the seats recline substantially more than the old Alaska first class? VX had the only domestic first class I could actually fall asleep in, due to the large recline angle and 55" seat pitch. I know they won't be able to match that recline, but I'm hoping that going from 36" pitch to 40" pitch in first class seat pitch comes with substantially upgraded recline? I've combed all the publicly available information on Alaska's new first class and this piece of info seems to not be published anywhere.
Alaska airlines is good and love the new interior. I hope you can come to Costa Rica with Alaska from LAX to LIR and I hope I can see you if you come to Costa Rica
I too miss "red" and I flew Virgin exclusively for a decade until the merger. 11 years ago they were the first one with Wi Fi on-board and that's how I noticed them plus they were based out of SFO and it has been a long time since any airline was based here...
I flew Alaska on a non-retrofit A320, right behind the huge bulkhead with the smokey glass so you can't see into first class. I had upgraded from farther back, which was a waste of money since the flight wasn't full and I could have had an entire row to myself if I wanted it. Actually, I still had the entire row since nobody upgraded to it besides me. Anyhow, it came with a free cocktail, something I didn't take because there liquor selection is a little boring.
I loved the video. The only the mood lighting from Virgin America on the entire Alaska fleet. However I understand why the mood lighting changed from red to blue. It would also be nice to bring back the entertainment system, not only on the Virgin America inherited fleet, but also on the Boeing fleet as well
The cabin looks nice although I do like seatback screens. Makes me sad that airlines are taking them out. I really liked how the glass fit completely into the cup holder. The Alaska airline lounge is really cool. Love that pancake machine. I use my priority pass to get in. Luckily I’ve never seen a capacity restriction. Great video.
7:20 At least they will be drowned out by the LEAP 1A engines. God they sound loud as heck! Very awesome trip report! Nice views and food looks pretty good. Any plans for more widebody trip reports?
That could be recording levels. I flew on a MAX a couple weeks ago and it was incredibly quiet, even during takeoff. I doubt there would be a huge difference in noise level between the Leap 1A and 1B, if anything the B should be louder as it spins faster.
I enjoy flying Alaska. Their customer service is excellent and they're very pleasant to deal with both over the phone and even over Facebook messenger. I like that there are most first class seats because I may have a better chance of upgrading at the gate unless they get through cleaning their Elites before me. I agree that it's a shame they removed the PTVs and that's why I prefer Delta for longhaul flights as they have PTVs on all their mainland aircraft. I miss Virgin America though I will happily fly Alaska whenever I can.
7:05 I flew Virgin (then Alaska) in the middle of June last year and they played the Virgin safety video (everything about the experience was the same as Virgin including uniforms, cups, food, seat, entertainment, etc.) The only difference was the on board announcement.
What's that website you use to show your flight path? BTW, good videos, don't normally like videos where you read captions with no words, but I like yours!
I've never experienced Virgin America, but as a long-time Alaska flyer, I've been looking at my other options and find that I still like Alaska as my domestic airline of choice. I'm excited about the new interiors, although it's sad they're a step down from Virgin. I can only guess it was too costly for Alaska to keep that going as a standard service (and maybe VAm was floundering with it a little?), so at least we get a nice cabin refresh that's financially sustainable. BYOD is a nice compromise if the media selection is good, so they should focus on that. I had a thought that maybe they should cycle back and forth between Alaska Blue and Virgin Purple in the cabin lighting. I also love Alaska's updated livery, one of my favorites anywhere; that's one area where I think they are actually doing much better than Virgin America. There just wasn't enough visual interest in the red and white. I hope Alaska keeps the A321 and A320s, Airbus aircraft have really grown on me recently. After falling in love with the 757, the "flying pencil", and realizing they're going to be replaced by a twin-aisle Boeing (the NMA or presumptive 797), that leaves the A321 as the only stretched high-capacity single-aisle. It retains some of the flying pencil look, and it has all the efficiency that the 757 lacked. The 797 sounds pretty cool too with the 2-3-2 arrangement. More to love, indeed. (Keep that special livery, too!)
Surprised there are only 12 seats in F, although I suppose it's a large upgrade from 8! The 321 Neo at AA has 20 FC seats! Although not with that pitch...I think F on domestic AA is 36".
Your remark about JUST getting hungry during that shot of the catering truck at LAX--you had breakfast at the lounge, you burned through that already? Although never flown Virgin America, its unfortunate that Alaska chose to go the BYOD route--I don't have a laptop, not even a smartphone so I'm locked out of the offerings--I flew an Alaska 737-800 SEA-IAH(check out my vids) FC,was given a tablet to use but never could figure out how the device worked so gave up on it and resorted to catching up on newspapers. Beautiful views of the Seattle area on landing--did you spend any time there(non-airport)? As for Alaska's baggage guarantee--I believe they do have a deal where if you're not reunited with your bag within 20 minutes, you get extra FF miles or some such thing.
I believe there is an old-fashioned method called a paper boarding pass, issued by the check-in kiosk and marked in a mysterious way by the TSA agent who checks one's ID and boarding pass
Wonder if there will eventually be a surplus auction or sale for all the old Virgin America seats.... not gonna lie a row of those black leather seats in my living room would be kinda fire 😂😂
The interior is ok. I won't be flying first class, since they no longer offer before-take-off drinks. Copa does not offer them,,however if you tell the flight attendent you want one, they will, accomodate you.
I flew Virgin America First Class from Sea-tac to LAX before they merged with Alaska . It was wonderful . it had entertainment beautiful white leather seats , and a Hot meal . I think Alaska has gone cheap and probably charging more than Virgin America with less amenities . Jetblue is still the best of any domestic airline
The interior was awesome, very clean. the a320 is the reason why it is the best selling small plane. Seattle it is always cloudy and rainy there. lastly, i hate airplane bathrooms. just hate it. i couldnt shit in my 13 hour flight so that is bad.
I love it!! Then again, I may be a little biased since I'm an AS Flight Attendant😋 Also, our baggage service guarantee is that you'll be reunited with your checked bags at baggage claim in 20 min or less, or you'll get miles or a discount towards your next flight! My fellow crew member (classmate) probably swiped his screen too early to finish that part. Not sure why he didnt finish the full announcement lol but that's what it is!👍🏼 I think there are benefits to having the screens on the seats, but it is very true that these days, most people truly do have their own device. And with the in-seat power which is provided to them, they wont have to worry about low batteries! Plus, along with Virgin's old FC seats.. the weight of those things affects and adds to fuel costs. Every decision made for the interiors was very intentional, and there are things that will ripple affect into other features of a flight that I think many people dont think about or consider. Anyway, great video! Definitely enjoyed watching it. I hope you enjoy more Alaska flights to come! we'll be sure to take good care of you!😀✈
Oh! And I'm really not sure why the music was playing during flight!🤔 that was never a feature on an Alaska flight. Virgin moreso had music playing during taxi and have it playing in the lavs. But never during flight. Either crew forgot to make sure it was turned off..or another passenger nearby had their device playing with no headphones. Not sure! But I thought that was weird too.
Yeah, the FA forgot to say that their baggage guarantee is that you'll be reunited with your bag **in 20 minutes or less**, but I'm thinking you knew that and just thought that was as funny as I did. :)
New interior is very nice. I could see all the homeless people when you looked down on downtown Seattle. LOL. Question, when did Alaska Airlines switch over to Airbus? They were mainly always Boeing.
Sooooo BYOD entertainment stands for Bring Your Own Damn Entertainment? I'd be curious about the price of this product. Shortly after the acquisition, Alaska was charging the same as VX for an inferior First Class product and I swore off Alaska until they completed their renovations. This First Class product looks comfy enough-I just hope they're not still overcharging for it.
Great Report and Kudo's for getting it out so quickly considering International Women's Day was yesterday. The product reminds me in parts of WestJets Colours and looks on the B787 excluding the IFE. Really nice cabin but nothing beats the Virgin Product
I have always prefered BYOD, I bring my Verison wifi pod thingy and my Razer laptop and it's like the wifi I have at home. Much faster than on board entertainment.
Nice video but it would be much better with vocal narration instead of text. Having to read means that the viewer also can't fully watch the video so stuff inevitably will be missed.
That landing was butter!!🧈
Love the A321, seems so much more spacious than the 737-900s for roughly the same # of seats.
I literally got an Alaska airlines ad right before the video started lol, great trip report!
I literally just flew this today BOS LAX. The seats were very comfortable and the little detail in first was awesome! The tray table was great! The little storage next to you for your phone was great! I love Alaska.
Looks okay, miss the VX first cabin.
Everyone and their mothers will miss that, but I still love Alaska and I fly that cabin transcon all the time for free thanks to them
Great video and I LOVE THE NEW LOOK on Alaska Airlines very classy great job you all.Good flight food looked real nice in First Class too.
The approach and landing into Seattle was amazing.
Virgin had a more advanced and modern looking cabin 11 years ago, that says something about how low-cost aviation has gotten.
I can’t speak from experience but while the Alaska product may not look as special as Virgin America, it still knocks the socks off European narrow body offerings. Wonderful work on this video.
European narrow body is a joke

This is a very nice airplane the A321NEO(New Engine Option). I love Airbus and Boeing as well but this plane is amazing.
Butter landing!
1:05 If you take a closer look, it is the United Airlines 737 Max 9
The song they blasted in background was “letting go” by wild nothing

Talk about being themed to the West Coast. Is it safe to say that Alaska is the Hollister of airlines?
Excellent video! So they play their “boarding playlist” for the entire duration of the flight? What if I wanna sleep? Lol
I was wondering the same thing. :)
Great vid, I love how no one claps in America after landing lmao
I loved the video. The only the mood lighting from Virgin America on the entire Alaska fleet. However I understand why the mood lighting changed from red to blue. RIP virgin usa i always loved u
I love Alaska Airlines, I think this new interior looks great. The food looks wonderful BTW. Great vid

Nice ! Alaska airlines is growing. But it's so weird to see the Alaska livery on an Airbus.

im going on this exact aircraft on the 22nd of june!! except i wont be in FIRST class..
Really smooth landing btw
Hah ima get a video on this one up at some point 😂, I did FLL-SEA on it, it did help that we had probably around 60 people onboard too
I would love to try an A321neo the most in the A320 family.

No buzz saw anymore on the new NEO or 73MAX either 😢 They just sound like oversized EMB 175s

Very good video again 👍🏻
I’ve got 2 questions:
What Netflix series you was watching on this flight?
And do you think will you go for 4K?
I love your videos they the best and I mean that come do a vlog on my flight that i work.
the small buzz sounded like IAE engines
Wonder if there will eventually be a surplus auction or sale for all the old Virgin America seats.... not gonna lie a row of those black leather seats in my living room would be kinda fire 😂😂
The takeoff view is beautiful😍😍😍!
What do they do with the new Virgin A321NEO seats that they remove? Do they send them to another airline or do they just dump them in some scrapyard?
In this case, the pilot put the engines into the normal setting. So that's why the engines are not to noisy.

Airbus simply dominates
Nice review. The wooden trays are from Delta Airlines which sold them to Alaska after they introduced the new Alessi tray and service war.
During the start of the first engine, the PA volume is automatically increased! Some flight attendants will anticipate this and turn it back down!
That’s an amazing 😉
