Coming from someone who works in musical theater, she can sing but doesn’t know how to do it properly. She doesn’t breathe right, doesn’t project right, and tears her vocal cords to shreds, you can actually hear her voice being damaged in some parts. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

It's not auto tune, it's just the microphone on the camera in the back that's picking up the sound. That's why it sounds like it's auto tuned. Roomie official had a discussion about this, and I thought it was auto tune as well but it wasn't.

@@mochiking4169 despite the above comments non understanding question as to why you said that, i think I need to politely explain the reason this person put depressed in quotes. A lot of 13 year olds use depression for attention because of the lack of it they're getting at home. The lack of attention from home can be damaging but since they're so oblivious to it I would think they aren't able to be diagnosed with depression, but are more going through a hard time. However, the fact that they post certain things and scream depression when going through this is entirely insensitive because they know they're doing it for attention. That's why people hate the edgy 13 year old stage so much. I'm 14 and I was taken back by this comment to, but then I realized it's not directly talking to me because, I don't post pictures of slit wrists and sad boi quotes on my instagram. It's a misunderstanding and I can see why you were quick to defend, I just want to prevent an argument.

You can have scratchy sounds when singing. However, hers comes off as extremely unnatural and she’s not using her diaphragm at all.
Minny Strawb she pushes her voice when she talks too. She’s constantly straining her voice and I don’t think she’ll have a “career” in singing much longer. If we’re lucky.

@pretzel Mm, well, you can start with the basics. Learn how to have proper posture first. Pretend you have an invisible string on top of your head and pull up, keeping your shoulders back and your jaw at a 90 degree angle. Then work on your breathing. When you breathe in, have your mouth open in the shape of the first vowel you’re going to sing. Breathe deeply through your diaphragm. Your stomach should expand, NOT your shoulders. Open your mouth more than you would if you were talking. Pretend you’re speaking in an obnoxious fake British accent. It helps. If you feel in the back of your mouth on the top, there’s a squishy spot. That’s called your soft palate. You want that to expand when you sing. It makes a clearer, less pitchy sound. To expand your range, you will need practice. To begin, learn the difference between your head voice and your chest voice. You’re chest voice is better for lower notes. But to use your head voice, you want to raise your eyebrows. You might just not have that much of a range. I know my range is predominantly soprano one. I have a really high singing voice. That’s just how it is for some people and that’s still okay! Also learn about dynamics. You don’t want all of your singing to just be loud. You want it to be loud in the appropriate times. Singing softly and well is a lot more impressive because it actually takes more air to do so. And when you’re ready, look up “fry screaming”. Having grit in your voice is typically the result of learning how to add fry to your voice. I know this is a lot, haha. And this isn’t a fast going thing by any means. But I hope it helps a bit.

I feel like Gabbie can sing, but her issue (please correct me if I’m wrong I’m no professional here) could be that she is singing out of her range, and she is damaging her voice. She thinks she is a soprano but she could be an alto, because she does well with lower notes and not higher (OML GABBIE STOP SINGING FROM YOUR THROATTT)
Yeah she sings out of her range. This means it’s hard for her to hit the notes. And when she tries they sound off. Oh and yes, this damages her voice... so she better be singing lower. And practice singing in a good way.

Yeah I have been taking vocal lessons for a very long time and I think she can pitch alright it’s just that she doesn’t have a very strong mix (or even one at all) so she either goes screamo mode where she tries to “belt” notes out of her range or she has to sing in head voice. Personally I think her head voice is not that bad, it’s just when she’s tries to drag her chest voice up to hit those notes that she can’t pitch them cause she can’t physically hit them
@@sj-jh9ko And she could extend her range if she learned to sing with proper breath support which isn’t really hard to do for the genre she is singing. There’s so many helpful Free! videos on RUclips from voice teachers that she could improve and sing how she wants without damaging her voice.

3:00 she sounds like she's trying to belt from the throat, not the stomach - she doesn't have the right breath support. That's why there's that voice break at 3:03 when she goes a few steps higher. She must have hit her mid-range break, and instead of properly supporting it with a push from her diaphragm she pushes even harder from her throat, making it sound strangled and strained. I think with proper singing instruction, her voice could be amazing, but right now she's clearly an amateur singer with a lot of terrible singing habits (and often, singing habits can tend to cling on for a while)
Edit: she seems to be belting from the throat at the chorus too and I've just gotta say, OUCH girl, are your vocal cords ok?

Songwriting 101:
I think the problem with her songwriting is that she thinks 'metephor-based' songs only need 1 or 2 (often not very good) metaphors, eventually leaving her with one of these lazy songs that basically repeats itself over and over again. Often when you see good songs with metaphors, there's usually several metaphors hiding, the song doesn't spend time explaining the metaphors but leaves it very much up to the imagination of the listener.
For example, Gabbie's "Satellite" song was about how she feels like satellite, as if she's spectating. Instead of singing that, she comes up with a lot of senseless stuff. She could've made it so much better by simply putting effort into the text or seeking feedback.
Another thing to avoid a "lazy" song is to avoid it getting repitive, for example by adding small parts "talking" to the listener, like adding bridges, or parts talking about something more specific. Gabbie was really trying to go in-debt while peeling off the surface, which was well, disastrous.

It's not really about the number of metaphors imo. You can stick to one. But it's more about how you explore that one metaphor. If you find new angles to see it through it can be really cool, kinda like Gravity by Mayer. Super simple song but catchy.
