      It can become the best league in the world. But MLS would have to make drastic changes to their league, and be willing to get rid of all salary caps. The only way it can become a better league is if MLS teams are able to buy the best players and coaches in the world. But that will require a lot of money.

    • @augustusalexander5774

      Some people argue that Euro basketball has the better format. Plus the current best NBA players have come from euroleague. Also how does that create a narrative that Europe doesn't care about basketball? It's not making sense with your statement. It doesn't matter if soccer is prevalent in this country or not. You can still field competitive players and competitive quality product that is the MLS.

    • @MLSMoves
      @MLSMoves  3 дня назад +8

      MLS has more potential in soccer than Europe has in basketball as far as their leagues.

    • @thebrunostrange
      @thebrunostrange 2 дня назад

      @@Jadentheman Youre kind of undermining your point, though. The NBA is by far the best basketball league in the world - otherwise, the top non-American players wouldn't be playing in the NBA. The fact that Giannis, Wemby, Luka et al are in the NBA is testament to its top status. The MLS - and Im not trying to shit on the league, just keeping things in perspective - cant even fantasize reaching this level. The top players in the world are going to the Prem, to La Liga, etc, they're not going to MLS unless they can no longer cut it in Europe. (also, no one made the argument that Europe doesnt care about basketball? not sure where you got that from). The MLS is on an upward trajectory, but let's be realistic here...

    The MLS should consider acquiring the USL and implement more flexible spending rules for the newly integrated USL divisions. All leagues and matches could be broadcast on Apple TV, creating a unified viewing platform. Over time, this system could pave the way for the introduction of promotion and relegation, enhancing competition and excitement across all levels of the sport.

    How about giving free MLS Pass subscriptions to "youth Soccer" programs in America. In the 90's Apple decided to give free computers to basically every public school in the US. This was marketing genius, at that point in time Apple only had like 3% market share of the PC market. The idea was simple, let's get young people acclimated to the Apple PC, they will eventually buy our products as adults. This may be a shock to young folks, but Apple products in the 90's were considered "less than" and very close to bankruptcy.

  • @garys585

    It all boils down to economics. If a collection of high rolling owners with very, very deep pockets bring in top players from around the world who have the background in elite youth academies, then I suppose it could be the top league some day. Saudi Arabia is trying that now, but with limited success so far. But this is not around the corner in the US.

    If you think about it, we SHOULD be a top league, but most players now are divas and money driven. The MLS is one of the most competitive leagues in the world. The amount of games, the regular season + playoff system, the travel, the field variables, the rivalry with Liga MX.
    The blueprint is there, but good luck getting a worldclass player to join without wanting a lucrative contract. Its not all on the players though. Supporters need to show up consistently.

    To add on to what you were saying about the competition between MLS and South America, I think CONMEBOL and CONCACAF should merge all together! It would give MLS more competition and exposure to the league in south America, when we play better teams, we have to be able to compete, just like whats happening against Liga MX, it took a while for MLS to catch up and finally win that CCL. Also it would make world cup qualifying spots more competitive for teams like USA, Canada, Mexico.

      @@MLSMoves The only real competition between the the mexican and american leagues is the Concachampions, and I guess Mexico has won almost all editions. Leagues Cup is a one sided affair, until all teams play on even conditions. And some will talk about stadiums and infrastructure, but these dont win games.
      The best League in the world until now is the UEFA Champions League, and it is a UEFA affair.
      For an outsider the MLS is so confusing. Who is the real Champion of MLS? The winner of the Cup or the SS, are they two different events? If its the SS, the Cup is a watered down tournament. Why so many teams? Are there really two tournamnets (West and East)? They dont play against all opponents, so their is no even play between them. If the Cup is the real tournament, then why play so many mathches fron March to october to qualify more than half the teams?
      Is the MLS made to compete against NBA, NFL and MLB or to gain international prestige. There is alot to sort out before there is a chance to gain international fan recognition as a real competitive league.
      Is it a retirement league? A few years ago I thought no, but now it sure looks like one. Even players like Cucho for example, he is a baller, he would be a baller in any colombian team, but he may not be in the top 10 strikers for the national squad.
      Also Whitecaps lost a friendly with Wrexham!
      It is a league with money and that is good for players that cant go to Europe or Brasil.
      Sorry for the rant. really hope the MLS decides what its future will bring, depending on the league owners.

    I truly believe the club World Cup is the key to becoming one of if not the best in the world. Mls needs to show that our best can be competitive against the giants of world soccer. Do I think Seattle and the chosen mls team (cough cough Miami) will go far in 2025 probably not, but I think we’re good enough to make it out of the group and improve on that for 2029.
