Haithere No, Sonny Red is his own character. Pacino's character is supposed to be Lefty but with some of the characteristics of Sonny Black, who is also in the movie separately
If there ever was a man whom deserved the title Original Gangster, it was this man.. Never flipped, never ratted. That's why, in the end, they gave him a pass I think.. Pacino played him brilliantly if you ask me. The difference between the Michael Corleone character and Lefty is huge in regard to Cosa Nostra hierarchy, and Pacino played them both so convincingly..
when you say in the end they gave him a pass, did you mean that's why they didn't whack him? I heard when he got called for the hit, on his way there he was intercepted and taken in by the FBI for his protection cuz they knew he was in danger. I could be wrong though, but that's what I read in a biography about Lefty.
Stacy Marie They didn't give him a pass and you are totally right. FBI intercepted Lefty on a way to a supposed sit-down. In actuality, it was going to be his death. But Will was right in saying that Lefty never did rat on anybody, he still wanted to get Pistone even when in prison.
Novice Historian it was after he was convicted and didnt rat that the Commission gave him a pass, this is why he wasnt murdered in jail and did 20 yrs. But had he not been intercepted by the FBI he would of indeed been with Sonny Black found somewhere a year later. The Bonnanos IMO was the most stand up family, no rats whatsoever until the Massino era.

Of the 5 families, the Bonnanos were involved the heaviest in narcotics trafficking, but yeah "they were the most stand up family", give me a fucking break.
If HBO wants to make another mob series, they can make one about the entire Donnie Brasco undercover job. From his time with Gilly to meeting Mira and Lefty to his time in Milwaukee to Florida etc. etc. There is a LOT of things going on, and I would love to see it on the screen. The movie was good, but a lot was left out and Sonny's and Donnie's relationship wasn't nearly elaborated enough.
If you pay attention to what's going on here. Lefty is trying to tell him how serious what their involved in is. there's a part where you hear Lefty say "Something is wrong". He sensed it, but his loyalty to Donnie didn't allow him to accept it. If you're listening to this tape you can pick up and tell Donnie is a cop. His voice is that of a guy who grew up a nerd and became a cop.

It made way more sense as a story, for the movie, to depict Lefty as the one who was killed for allowing Donnie Brasco in the family. It brought more characterization for Donnie's character as far as his guilt and regrets in knowing his friend will be killed, and it was way more succinct than depicting the events that happened in real life. The mafia is like any other organization, only those at the top or those who are really motivated at the lower ranks make much money. Everybody hated Anothy Mirra, but he was allowed to live until the Donnie Brasco thing blew open because he made a lot of money and presumably kicked up what he was supposed to.
It’s a pyramid scheme lol I truly feel bad for Lefty he gave his all for the company
Forget about it!
Dude this is so cool. I picked up the book for an English project, and it's so interesting.

It's kinda sad how much he loved Donnie and how loyal he was. If I can say that without being ripped to shreds here lol
I totally agree. Lefty sacrificed a lot because he loved Donnie and believed in him til the end. Personally, I think cops are worst than gangsters so 🤷♀️
You don't know what you're talking about
My Ex Wife still lives in this building...I gotta Have 2 Spritzers to calm down.
Hard to believe tho that Pistons was in a crew for six years and did no violence? A hit beatings?
Lefty was the man..this guy infiltrated the right guy i loved the movie
Donnie sound like a fed. The fact that he never did a piece of violence should have been a red flag 🚩.
You Don the jeweller?
He does sound exactly like what a Fed would
He had been with them for years at that point... but I'm sure you're right, he wouldn't have fooled guys like you!!!👍
Brasco sounds like a Jerky Boy “Shut it down Mike”!
