"Aint the question." We all know by now that when you get called to a "sit-down" and someone is mad at you, theres always a fair chance you never walk out alive. Who here would have taken Donnies job for all the money in the world at that moment?????????? Not me! Not for 50 million.
Agent Pistone was really scared, you can feel it in his voice. Read the book, it's good. He didn't expect this call from Lefty and he had to think good and hard about how he answered each of Lefty's questions cause one wrong answer could jeopardize the entire 5 year operation. One of the agents he had introduced (Rocky) had fucked up and had to make up a story about Donnie getting 250k without kicking up any $ upstairs. Lefty had just heard about it, and if that wasn't enough, Anthony Mirra (Bonnano family's biggest psycho at the time) had gotten out of jail and claimed Donnie was his, not Lefty's. (which was true) Operation Donnie Brasco was largely successful, but at a tremendous cost to the personal life and mind of the undercover agent. Ever wonder why J.Pistone never talked about his feelings and conscience in his book or movies? Ever wonder why he retired a few years after the operation? All he does is rationalize that he only "did his job." but that's the same argument most Nazi war criminals have used in their trials. Pistone has a very guilty conscience, he admits in his book he had developed a kinship to Sonny Black (more than Lefty) and Sonny ended up getting killed because of him.
The book was great. I have a feeling his lawyers made him leave out 1/3 of what he wanted to leave in....just to be safe. Thats why the book WAS so readable, because you know whatever he said, at least twice as much really went down.....on both sides. Good writer who helped Pistone write it, no matter how you feel about Pistone. I loved in one of the you tube vids where they ask him about him doing this and he says "Everybody has to die some time. No, I usually wasn't scared. When its your time to go, its your time." I wish I had his cajones. After living that life for 5-6 yrs, what could he possibly do to make life interesting now? He doesnt seem like a stay home and paint portraits all day type of guy. It was funny when he said that when his daughters heard that Johnny Depp was going to play their dad, they all went beserk and the whole school knew. He was very proud of that, because of all he put the girls thru. Watch, as some kind of "irony"...remember that line, watch, they find him in Arizona running a crystal meth ring (;ike someone else in the program who got caught) and nobody can touch him because of what he knows. Ha! Nah, he's probabaly a good husband and tries to make up for what he put his family thru.
Of course, it was a good book and it's obvious plenty was left out, but documents get declassified each year so yeah. Although Pistone did have huge balls and kept his calm under stressful situations, his ego is a little too big and you can feel it in his book.. sometimes it's like it was written by the FBI or the government rather than an ex-agent. Like that quote you said - sounds very arrogant, Pistone was scared there's nobody who wouldn't be scared in those situations. Yep the movie was good, Al Pacino was PERFECT as Lefty (almost like they're related), and even Michael Madsen as Sonny Black, they even look and sound alike. As for Johnny Depp, he was good but I think he was a little miscast there, personal opinion. Haha yeah, you never know with these guys... wait until all the ex-rats get together and form their own crime family. lol.
I have to tell the truth, I have watched this movie, along with Gotti and Goodfellas soooooo many times , almost hoping I missed something because the movies(mob or otherwise) are so dull I'd rather see a classic like this 20x than a new movie that stinks. Too bad Dinero and Pacino are getting old. Not many who could replace them. And James Gandofini...where would they get a fat guy with the voice of a chipmonk to replace that guy. He's A HALL of FAMER...thats for sure
You have to admit the movie is good but they butchered it... they took a LOT of shortcuts which is understandable since you can never fit a whole book in 100 minutes, but they left out like 2/3 of the book. The other agents, Jilly's crew, Anthony Mirra, Frank Balistrieri, Miami, this phone call, etc. They made Sonny Black an antagonist and Lefty much more charismatic than he was, just to fit the role since Pacino was playing him. It was good, for a movie... but I wouldn't call it a classic, not in the same rank as Goodfellas. Yeah I know... I don't even like to call him James, for me he'll always be Tony Soprano. You know you got a good actor when they transform dialogues written in a piece of paper into real characters, bring them to life...
I think even back then he stuck out. I'm pretty sure lefty here knows, but he's the one that brought him in so admitting that would have meant he himself is a goner so he is in denial
most of these guys hung out since they were kids, this is why Donnie had a hard time at the beginning. They got their nicknames from when they were kids.
Lefty had that gut filling something wasn't right with Donnie B.and went against it like we all have did and done and it cost us. For me it's the power of the Holiest Spirit, for others it's there 1st mind.
Get some drinks, a phone and a wiretap, sit back and let him incriminate himself and all you got a do is say a few words here and there. Not too hard getting this guy.
this guy Lefty is fuckin hilarious....he makes no sense and he likes to hear himself talk tough...."u understand donnie"? Donnie said" Yeah i got it"..."NO U DONT UNDERSTAND DONNIE" lolz. classic

Lefty had just heard about it, and if that wasn't enough, Anthony Mirra (Bonnano family's biggest psycho at the time) had gotten out of jail and claimed Donnie was his, not Lefty's. (which was true)
Operation Donnie Brasco was largely successful, but at a tremendous cost to the personal life and mind of the undercover agent.
Nowadays Briscoe would stuck out like a sore thumb. You can hear the feds in his questioning
I think even back then he stuck out. I'm pretty sure lefty here knows, but he's the one that brought him in so admitting that would have meant he himself is a goner so he is in denial
"You're a made guy now ...and you'll be known as Bubbee"
most of these guys hung out since they were kids, this is why Donnie had a hard time at the beginning. They got their nicknames from when they were kids.
The Lincoln Contintental - it's a better auto-mo-beeeel !!!
"Hey Lefty, can you repeat all that."
Lefty “ I know , NO You DONT Know ! “ Ruggiero
Guy loves to hear himself talk jeez😂
Lefty had that gut filling something wasn't right with Donnie B.and went against it like we all have did and done and it cost us. For me it's the power of the Holiest Spirit, for others it's there 1st mind.
Not really. Lefty had no idea
Get some drinks, a phone and a wiretap, sit back and let him incriminate himself and all you got a do is say a few words here and there. Not too hard getting this guy.
The freakin difficulty, Pal, was getting close enough to get Lefty on the freakin phone.
So ... why is lefty talking on the phone for so long ? Dont gangsters know the rules of their trade !!!
gabriel hernandez their on the phone , stop 🛑 lol
Let's just say he wasn't the brightest light in the box. FBI had a lot of patience with those mobsters.
@@DCOM20. no argument there

You can feel the joy lefty gets out of having donnie to school, talk down to etc he feels respected and needed .am I wrong..
Lefty got scary when he told Donny "You came after me, you came after me twice...". It was like a warning about overstepping boundaries in the way donny was talking to Lefty.
- interesting on mafia real clips and videos , when the organization was so powerful and so secret ..💯
basicly left doesn't want donnie to go work for Mira...
I gotta get the papers get the papers
This was the greatest comment on here
Keith 2x
it's very hard to say no when your broke and some guy with money wants to be your friend and is overly generous. pistone targeted their weakness, from the bottom to the top. greed. even if you got turned away by five guys there is always a guy like lefty that can't watch money walk away
Pistone wasn't overly generous. If he were he'd have become a mark. But he did have money and that did keep Lefty.
He also was corrupt ,He did entrapment ,He went 6 years seen His Wife and Kids maybe 5 Times what a Guy .And He got some people Killed ,Locked up on Activity's He was involved n and had a good time doing it also He is not a better Person than Sunny Black or Lefty and worked for a way more corrupt Agency.
@@brianblair6067 lol cope
Boobie's birthday...
Bill Long 😂😂😂
The family gave lefty a pass he did his time and retired
SWP 215 correct the first guy he interacted with was a guy named gilly greca/greco who was with the colombos. He was subsequently killed
@SWP 215 lefty got sent for but the feds knew he was about to get wacked and arrested him before and tried to turn him, he told them to go fuck themselves, whilst in jail he was riddled with cancer and was released due to only having 6 months to live
Why do I only hear Johnny Depp?! Holy crap they sound IDENTICAL!
Real gangster
he never ratted...
*Lefty and Sunny Black died a💔 heart because of Pistone* those thugs really trusted and loved him

Don't you tell me what I know. Hey, I got a black belt man!
I know. No you DON'T know!
What was he talking about when he said my wife is over here I’m gonna tell u to play with urself?
He did not swear in front of a woman. Was an old school wiseguy rule in that days. So he did‘t want to say to Donnie Go f***k yourself
He wanted to tell Donnie to play with himself but he couldn't out of respect of a female being present.
Whats funny tho is that he said it anyway
@8.00 " i defied them... i defied dem.... that ain't the question, my friend." Pacino is good/
“I hold everything against”
The bar they hung out in was Joe Sonken's Gold Coast in Hollywood, Florida
"Let me tell u a couple 2 🎄 things"
So fascinating. Like school girls with guns.
Back when people spoke clear and correctly on the phone.
