  • How to build a shed by yourself diy all steps included start to finish. Diy shed build. A lot of the same steps can be used for a cabin, tiny house, greenhouse, playhouse or any small building. Ever dream of a man cave or she shed to work in or play in? These buildings are so handy to have, you could even live in one! This one is rustic rough cut board and batten. I love how it turned out!
    bit.ly/RuggedWood here you can get the RUGGED wood treatment for the siding.
    I LOVE how it turned out on my shed siding!!
    bit.ly/ShedDoorHandleLock here is the locking handle I used.
    bit.ly/HeavyDutyHinges here are the heavy duty black hinges.
    bit.ly/DoorBarrelBoltLatch here are the barrel bolt latches for the door that mostly stays shut.
    bit.ly/CarriageBolts here you can check for carriage bolts but you may be better off getting them at a local place.
    bit.ly/CordlessTools here you can check out some nice cordless tools if you want some to make the job easier.
    bit.ly/TapeMeasureMax if you need a good tape measure these are my favorite.
    bit.ly/Window24x24 here you can find a pretty cheap window as well. Otherwise I would recommend the Lowes one.
    There's probably more I could add but all I can think of for now.
    www.csgnetwork.com/foundations... here is the one calculator I liked for squaring the building.
    www.blocklayer.com/square-lay... here is a second one.
    Here is the video timeline if you want to skip ahead since I know it's a long video. You can't have a very detailed shed build without it being long. ;)

      It’s been a year. How do you like the shed now? Wish it was bigger? Anything you would have changed? I’m thinking hard about building this to use as a wood working shop, but using a slanted/lean to roof…most vids call for that T1-11 siding..:but that’s $30 a sheet where I am. I can do zip sheathing for that price point

      It’s actually been 2 years now as it took me a while to edit all that footage. Overall I love it! I didn’t want to make it bigger because I wanted a shop. I didn’t want this to be the excuse to never build one. Lol. Overall it’s a really nice size for what I do. Storing stuff but also have a workbench on one side. I use most of the attic for storage too. It’s amazing how much you can fit in one of those.

I can easily see one foot taken off the length of that, a different door, two side windows, a tiny fireplace, a bed, a table, a couple or three chairs, a portapotty, a four foot claw foot bath tub/shower and dang, my own private Walden. What a beautiful build!!!!! Thank you, sir, for the inspiration!!! Me and mine wish you and yours all things great and good!!! Take care, be safe, all my best and God bless!!! I just finished my own version of your shed design. Thanks so much for making this video, it was incredibly helpful. By the end of the project, I couldn't tell you how many times I rewatched it. It was a lot! Ha. From beginning to end you taught an excellent course in shed building and really carpentry in general. I'm a total rookie at this stuff and was able to pull it off. It took me forever and I spent more than you did, but the end result is a really great looking shed. I could go on and on about the mistakes I made and lessons learned. I'll refrain. Mainly I just wanted to say a big thank you for taking the time to film your project in such a clear and thorough way. Awesome video all around.

Not that plywood is not also chemically fastened together but the amount is night and day compared to OSB and the different particle woods they push out these days as safe plus the fact plywood off gases during the curing process.

    So grateful for this video! I’ve been learning as much as I can as I plan a pretty big treehouse for the kiddos. No building experience at all, and I’ve had such a hard time finding clean, clear, videos that aren’t in context of residential codes or using CAD software for design. I watched this whole video while taking notes and learned so much. Thank you! 😁👍

      Hey Aaron thanks so much I really appreciate the feedback!! I’m glad if it was helpful. That was my hope in making it because I got so many questions about little details on the last shed video I did. The other one I didn’t wanna make it too long but I got so many questions I decided I don’t care how long it is this one is going to have details. 😁 thanks again!

    This is the best construction video I watched that covers pretty much everything in a very uniformed and orderly way. My only dislike is just a matter of preference on the aged patina look on the wood. I prefer painted or a freshly stained look.

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  4 года назад +6

      Thank you very much for the feedback I really appreciate it!! Yes the look of the rugged wood treatment certainly isn’t for everyone but with my setting and being in the woods and liking rustic type stuff I love it! You can certainly paint it or stain it however you want. You could also just use T111 siding or some thing. I just wanted to show how I did it with the board and batten since most of them are t111 it seems. Thank you.

    Back in 2011 I rebuilt my shed taking out an old 7’ X 10’ (old fashioned hand built, probably 25 years old) on a weak concrete slab, upgraded to a 10’ X 14’ and 8’ tall on a 4” concrete slab with a 10’ X 10’ approach on the alley side. It has a service door opposite end of the alley end that has a 7’ X 8’ roll up door (motorcycle access) and a horizontal long window on each side wall.
    I watched your video to see how someone else might/would build their own..
    I must say the attention to detail you showed and narrated was impressive. Also talking about how others might convert it into a tiny home or cabin and preparing the subfloor for insulation was totally unexpected but welcomed.
    I’m now afraid you have a new subscriber in the works...
    P.S. with my full size Goldwing Motorcycle, Snowblower, Lawnmower and other small items in the shed it’s amazing just how fast it filled up...

I have yet to compare the rough cut boards with T111 or similar panels but I think they are cheaper - and I really like the look. It reminds me of the place the old blacksmith lived in around the corner from our farm. He lived in a place about this size for all the time I knew him. He had a boxwood stove, a small table, one chair, a rocker, a curio cabinet, a single-size bed and not much else. Henry Fisher. Thanks for the memories.

    There are a lot of “how to” videos out there and I wish all of them were this good. Ty for the excellent tutorial! I do have a floor question-what type of plastic and at what layer would you add a vapor barrier for an insulated floor?

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  4 года назад +4

      Thank you I appreciate that! I would probably do at least four mil maybe six mil plastic. I think the best would be to put it on the bottom underneath but that would be really hard to do on a shed like this so I would at least put it on top of the floor joists before you put the floor down. Unless you do spray foam which can seal off for vapor barrier if it’s closed cell foam then you wouldn’t need to worry about plastic. That’s my thoughts

    The best times was, when we would build snowforts and have the GREATEST snowball fights with all our neighbor friends. Everyone had two huge forts in their front yard. Thank you guys for the memories!

    Pro tip on moving a shed like this. Drill a 1” hole in your skids on the inside, not the end. Then if you have to wench it up on a trailer you can use 3/4” steel pipe and a chain and it will keep it from digging into your siding and right up on the trailer.
