You never cease to amaze me. This shed is so simple, and you described it so precisely that I'm going to give it a try. I have the lumber, and I have the time. So, I don't see why a 67-year-old woman can't do this.
I'm 64 and thinking the same thing. Can clear out my little garage of garden tools and cart then have space for my motorcycle (if I get one, which I'm also thinking of!)
I really don't mean to brag (sorry) but I've just turned 80 and have been doing such stuff (over eight properties, and 50 years...) until recently... but now I just don't have the strength to lift stuff. My wife, who has been watching me for a few years, is now my best helper. Whenever I get out the hammer she always says: "When I nod my head, hit it..." and laughs like a drain. "The couples who build together just can't help staying together..." OR... "The couples who help each other cannot avoid staying together..." [I'll get my coat.]
Dave, you have the most satisfying videos on RUclips. Just a man teaching others things he knows about. With his own voice narrating it, and his own music keeping us comfortable. PURE. Thank you for doing us this service.
Dave, I want you to know that because of your videos, this city kid bought a small piece of land out in the country, got a build permit, and is starting construction on my very first cabin next week. Thank you for being an inspiration- keep doing what you’re doing, you’re the man.
Well, I am a 70 year old woman. And I need a shed. Thank you for showing me how to build one. It will take me longer than you. So I will start one next spring. You know what it like in the upper Michigan this time of year. Plus take care of other things before the real snow gets here. 😊
I got the same hammer, I bet i've had it 25 years.. I live off grid and I build a lot of those sheds .. Sure makes it nice to have some place to put your stuff
So simple and nice! Tired of all the RUclipsrs with videos of a "simple cheap shed", and hold crap they are building them like they are building a house! All the layers of protection, crazy overkill on roofs... enough Simpson strongtie hardware, they must have stock in the company!
The only time I can think of where carpentry made this much sense to me was from watching Larry Haun's videos on RUclips. I don't need a shed at the moment but now I know what I'll do when I need one.
I guess this goes to show that even a simple building like this can be over thought and worked to death. Your method makes a lot of sense to say the least.
Love your videos. I have learned a lot from watching your projects. They say you can't teach and old dog new tricks but i beg to differ. Just wish I was younger to apply some of what I have picked up. Thanks for the educational side of it.
I love watching your videos. When I’m having a stressful day at college I just watch one of your videos and I just feel happy. Thank you so much for what you do!
Glad you mentioned Larry Haun. I watched all his videos years ago and have used many of his techniques. I have been watching you for several years now. I wish you had let your son watch your videos or help out on more projects- I know, he was a teenager! I had two of them.😂 thanks for continuing to show projects. I would watch all the Whipples, but Belle hasn't been posting any except with Brook.
I have watched Larry Hahn and his brother Joe build that house at least 20 times through the years one of my favorite RUclips videos and I like that 90s feel to it. It really takes me back.
Good job. Just how I do it. Same deal, ONE MAN (PERSON) show. Work smart, efficient and safe. Like the layout. People suffer trying to get them square with out a fixed corner. Crazy to try it. Cut the right dimensions and it has to work out. Used 3,4,5 all my life or multiples if you have help, never. Some cut offs work back in. Not too much scrap. Always a good cooking fire at the end. Like the HAMMER. BRAND? Those ring nails take a good lick. Use them often. They don't back out. Local mill is so important. I support them all I can. Got posts for three projects now. I have a south of the border garage with a hillbilly roof. Hope it doesn't rain. Cloudy skies and roll plastic. All good Dave, from east Kentucky USA, keep a sharp saw. Square true level and plumb
Loved hearing 'batter board'. A guy I volunteer with at Habitat for Humanity helped me build a new deck back in February and he set up a batter board and I had never heard of one. (I have no building experience and anything I know comes from the last 4 and a half years volunteering with HFH). Watching this was hard in parts. After 3 shoulder surgeries, it hurt just watching you use that post hole digger!
This is a fantastic one man build no doubt. Just to add a tiny bit more DIY know how to it, you could also dip the corner post ends that get buried into used motor oil. This is a cheap off-grid ground contact treatment hack for all kinds of wood.
You are a master builder. What a great video. You make it look so easy. And you explain everything in ways a novice can understand. Now...if I only needed a shed 😉
Hi Dave, great to see another video, I know it’s always going to be fun, informative, and I’m always grateful to see what you’re up to. God bless to you and yours!❤❤❤❤ Great chicken coop with door additions on the front wall!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
My dad was a carpenter for my whole life. Watching you crack in those nails w/ such mastery is bringing back childhood memories going with him to job sites. Incredible stuff.
Live simply shed . So nice to see what such a skilled carpenter and woodsman you are. Leaving the limbs in place of the pine tree . Natural as it should be. Thanks for sharing the build ! Loved it
Man this was good timing! I was trying to decide what to do for a cow shelter. I'm wanting to get a couple feeders. Guess this answers my question! Thanks for the video Dave!
Beautiful JOB One suggestion is to remove that branch off the roof because in time it will scratch your roof paint off and that's not a good thing. I use to work in management at a Metal roofing company that supplied the metal and installed it as well. YOUR SHED IS AWESOME!!! Great design. and loved the video.
Damn I love America for this, you can simply build anything you want no plans needed. This would be totally impossible in here,in stupid overregulated Europe🤢🤮 Great stuff Dave🤘👍
Probably against code where many/most people live in the US as well. Whether it would be enforced is up to the local government. Most Americans don't live really rural lives.
For now, I don't have a space not also money to build stuff like this. But I know that one day I will come back to all these videos and start building. So thank you, Dave. Great content!
I think this piece of property you own is my favourite. With the new shed, it looks even nicer than before. Can't wait to see the reno you do on the main cabin. Loved the video Dave!
Brother... if I could give 5 thumbs up, I would. I love the simplicity you bring to everything, and the peaceful calm that pervades all of your videos. Peace from Delta! ~Tim 👍👍👍👍👍
Always looking forward to your videos Dave! Thanks for sharing. It's nice to see that some of these tasks that seem so daunting are not as hard as we would believe them to be. Keep the videos coming!
Once again Dave you put together another great tutorial, I don't believe anyone does them better than you, nice shed and the timing of this video is excellent because I'm having to build one before the snow flys, apprieciate you Dave, till next time, take care and stay well :)
Thanks for a (nother) no nonsense video. I made a woodshed using your small cabin design. Instead of a platform, I made the floor joists in a "C" shape along the walls of a 3 sided shed like this one. It keeps the wood off the ground and out of the rain and snow, helps the wood dry, and you just use a couple of rough cut 2x4's to make the next row. When you are using the wood, you remove the empty 2x4s, store them under the "floor". This means there's no climbing up and down to stack and fetch wood, and in the summer, it doubles as my garden tractor shed.
You even build like my dad did. He hardly measured at all. And he was a teacher, both by trade and an inborn ability to teach. So he'd tell me what he was doing while he was doing it. Being female I never really was interested in doing it MYSELF so I hear the terms "jig that off" and I know basically what it means but never could figure out what the thing was nor could I find it in a hardware store. Still, there is much to be said for the sounds and narration. Takes me back to my youth! Thank you.
As a carpenter, who has to measure everything... I like how you slapped this all together and I can see exactly how you got the measurements without actually measuring anything.(well mostly) I really enjoyed watching it and well done sir. This brought me back to when I was a kid building tree houses and forts and just "winging" it all. Great job and fast also. And Larry Haun is a master!
Hi Dave, I follow you from Italy, and I must say that you are unique in everything you do. You make building houses and sheds look extremely easy. When the time comes to rebuild the house... I can already imagine the show!!! Well done, good but really good!!! I await this moment with joy. Best regards. Mary
DAVE... you could have named this video... "COMMON SENSE CARPENTRY" Buddy, there's a ton of guys out there who can't tell the difference between a speed square and a sack of concrete. By watching this, they too can build something. Lay down some cloth and a few pressure treated floor joists and you could floor it, or enclose it as easily as you built it. That's one of the things I've always enjoyed about your channel. It's fun, it's easy, and it's practical. Thank you, buddy................ BTW, I used to have a Vietnam War buddy who lived down in Tok. I don't know if he's still alive or not, but your next trip through there, stop at the cafe and ask if there's a Vietnam era, Army air traffic controller still around. Dime me off if he's still there.............
Always love watching you and Brook build things whether you building together or doing separate projects. You two have aways been my favorite to watch glad to see you coming back with more videos.❤😊
You should be a High School teacher. Patient, calm, and very informative. Love your videos! My uncle and Dad (may they rest in peace) often built their own sheds on my Iowa farm, and wished then I would have taken better notice of plum lines, and how to cut wood the right way, etc.... . Please keep doing what your doing and PLEASE, keep producing these videos.
Dave, I just want you to know that the Lord brought me so much joy today by watching you build this shed. I treasure you and your family and all you do for the kingdom of God and people.
I am always amazed at the Whipple family and their accomplishments! You are always building, honestly, a real Paul Bunyan! You provide simple explanations and instructions and it always looks stress free...lol! Thanks for sharing and encouraging, love your videos. 👷🏻♀😎
Built my first woodshed two years ago after having 5 large oaks taken down, and needing a space to dry the firewood. I meshed several different methods together and it turned out looking like a professional built it! The key is, make a plan and start. You’ll learn as you go. If you can make things square and level, you have the whole process licked. I threw down deck blocks and 2x6’s and went after it. A week later I have a shed that holds 6 cords and looks damn good while doing it. Dave, I did use your method of setting a nail to hold the board to hold the studs while leveling and nailing. That was a life saver as I didn’t have any help. Appreciated that tip.
My Pop used to build like that. Thanks for the memory, it’s something I’d forgotten about from long ago. He’s been gone for 17 years this upcoming week.
Leaving the low limbs make it seem like it's been there for some time, but so does that finishing trim on the front. That extra touch is old school. Bravo.
Good to see you back on here. I forgot to tell you guys my idea for that big concrete "bunker looking" building. That was like 6 months ago so you've probably already done something with it. In case you havent... I was going to suggest a BIG cantilever over the sides of this building for a couple of reasons. 1. Its small so this would give you more space upstairs and 2. snow protection/sun protection for the first floor doors and entry. Thats really all I wanted to tell you. Seeing your shed video made me think of it. I have a 14 acre place in south central PA and I've enjoyed watch you guys for a couple of years. I am a carpenter and former Coast Guardsmen. I love the tricks and techniques that you use to get things done while youre alone. Stay radical.
My wife and I were up in norther Wisconsin this weekend and I was thinking about all the projects I've watched you create. Can't wait to get some land and put the information to good use! Thanks for another great video.
Thank you so much for how well you explained everything on this build! I found myself checking the math with the Pythagorean theorem on the 3-4-5 rule for the square corner - was a physics major back in the day, I’m sorry I couldn’t help it! 😅 But this was just so awesome and approachable - thanks again. I would feel confident building this, yeah!!! I’m inspired. 😁
I see you build sheds like I flew Ultralights ... by the seat of the pants! And Earl Grey is my favorite, "go-to" tea (whenever Black Silk coffee gets old :) I'll definitely be watching this one a second time ... Great tutorial, Dave! Thanks ... See you down the road. God Bless y'all
I love all of Larry Hone videos especially for laying out interior rooms and making stairs. He almost never needs a tape measure, and I'm good about setting it down and later I can't find it. So, then I have to hunt for it. Thanks Dave for the quick course on shed builds and making it pretty on the front.
Thank you for the video! I love how laid back and relaxed you make the whole process - no dramas or hassle. And it looks amazing. Keep up the good work, Dave!
I've been needing a shed like this for some hay bales but thought it would be way too complicated for me to do (I'm 65 years old). After watching this, I believe I can do it!
You never cease to amaze me. This shed is so simple, and you described it so precisely that I'm going to give it a try. I have the lumber, and I have the time. So, I don't see why a 67-year-old woman can't do this.

I love the tricks and techniques that you use to get things done while youre alone. Stay radical.
My wife and I were up in norther Wisconsin this weekend and I was thinking about all the projects I've watched you create. Can't wait to get some land and put the information to good use! Thanks for another great video.
I could watch you build and talk all day long. What a joy 😅
I love the way you saw them boards with a chain saw instead of a regular saw
Thank you so much for how well you explained everything on this build! I found myself checking the math with the Pythagorean theorem on the 3-4-5 rule for the square corner - was a physics major back in the day, I’m sorry I couldn’t help it! 😅 But this was just so awesome and approachable - thanks again. I would feel confident building this, yeah!!! I’m inspired. 😁
Glad it was helpful!
Thats the cutest little woodshed. Thanks for the video!
Always entertaining and educational watching your show. Simple for anyone who doesn’t mind a little hard work.
Ironically I was just thinking how I was going to build a new wood shed for some old dead trees that need to come down in the yard. Thank you sir.
I've had the Identical Optimus stove since 1973. Still works like a charm. Mike from Maine
Great Shed and a fast job.
God Bless y'all
The all purpose canteen cup. Reminds me of my Army days.
I love all of Larry Hone videos especially for laying out interior rooms and making stairs. He almost never needs a tape measure, and I'm good about setting it down and later I can't find it. So, then I have to hunt for it.
Thanks Dave for the quick course on shed builds and making it pretty on the front.
Pretty ausum !A life time of experience in the building trade.And...you, re a musician as well! Thanks for taking the time ...👌
I almost spit my coffee out when you said “a couple days” that would take me a month
Thank you for the video! I love how laid back and relaxed you make the whole process - no dramas or hassle. And it looks amazing. Keep up the good work, Dave!
Thanks Dave! Perfect timing on the shed.
Awesome shed. As a retired optometrist it’s good to see safety glasses when hammering. I’ve seen my share of serious injuries involving hammering.
Wow! I’m in the right place at the right time!!! ❤😊
I've been needing a shed like this for some hay bales but thought it would be way too complicated for me to do (I'm 65 years old). After watching this, I believe I can do it!
Being radical for dummies, my favorite, cheers
