Dave, you're just flat out one of the best content creators that helps people learn to build on their own. Your explanations and teaching style are easy to understand and you have such an easy to listen voice. The fact that you can play guitar takes you up yet another notch. Great work, man. Thanks for all you do.
I’ve watched the long versions of every one of you and Brooke’s builds thru the years Dave, and I watched this one from start to finish. I’ll never be in a position to build one of these cabins/tiny homes, but by watching your videos I’m totally confident I could! Thanks for years of great content!

Great, Dave! Don’t forget in your building supplies to include a brilliant, hard working wife. You two are unbelievable collectively or individually. Stay mighty!!
Dave, this is one of Thee Best shows you've done yet!!! I wouldn't say you showed us a ton of... new things... but showing clips from all four cabin builds, and why you did unique things in each build was both informative and educational. Started my little cabin build up in Moran Michigan just south of Trout Lake. I am absolutely going to be using pattern 116 tongue and groove. And more than likely, I will keep buying my stuff at Menards in Gaylord on my way up to the property from down here in southwest Michigan. I sure do love watching your videos. They have inspired me to get property and build a nice little place to get away from the hustle and bustle down here.

Hi there Mimi Linda, I live in Wisconsin but I was born in Yuma, Arizona 72 yrs. ago and lived in Wilcox until the age of 12 then we moved to New Mexico. I too love Dave and Brooke's videos🎉Calming and informative. Have a great day and be safe❤❤❤😊😊
I'm almost done building a mini cabin on a 12 by 8 and 1/2 snow mobile trailer, metal roofing (green) and (brown) metal roofing exterior, r15 insulation for the ceiling, 2 inch foam for the walls and the floor, and 1/4 plywood interior walls with trim. Gonna urethane everything, add a tent wood stove and power it with an extension cord. I don't have land so the plan is to put it in the back yard in the woods. This as good as it gets for me but happy to have what I have.
We are finishing up on our cabin, a weekend play cabin in the woods in the mountains. Built on a steep hillside for the views and powered by solar & LiFePo4 batteries. Wood stove and a diesel heater for winter. It's a 2 story with a main floor deck about 8 feet up. We have a well on the property about 400' away, so that's the next project, get water to the cabin so we don't have to keep bringing it with us. I've built a lot of things, but I don't do it for a living, just sketched up a plan on a notepad, got the wife's buy off on layout, and we started building it. Tons of fun. We are in our 50s with older kids, anyone can do it if this is what they want, and built by just you and your spouse on the weekends.
Im a wooden boat builder, who just dabbles in cabin building, but my only tip that might help you out is butyl sealant for your metal roofing. you can get it at home depot in caulk tubes, its similar to what they glue windshields in cars with, and whats magic about it is that it stays soft like sticky silly putty, so it self heals if it springs any leaks. Its amazing stuff, ive used it to fix leaks below the waterline on boats, that 3 other repair guys couldnt get to stay fixed, cause they had bolts holding rudder hinges on, and the bolts were working all around with the force of the rudder. A single tube will do a small cabin, put a bead on metal roof overlaps, and where your fasteners hit, and you are golden.
I am so grateful for you and Brooke. I am 60, divorced and on my own. I use you guys to help me plan for the what ifs. Thanks you both for your channels!
You inspired me to build a cabin in northwest Alabama. Finished out the interior with tongue and groove, built a ladder out of 2x4’s like you demonstrated in one of your videos to reach our loft. Can’t wait to spend time in it this fall. I owe of a lot of my ability to watching your videos. So thanks for being a good teacher, I really appreciate your videos.

Another great video Dave. You're so good at these instructional videos. All the cabins are absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, even if I'll never build a cabin, its great to watch how.
Seriously thank you so much for all your videos over the years. You genuinely inspired me to build my own cabin and start my own channel to document the build process. Videos like yours gave me the confidence to do it myself!
Watching you use your level to pencil out where the 'studs' are when laying/nailing your plywood floor is simple but a good tip. Awesome video. Thank you very much.
Awesome work Dave. Love your videos. It’s a true inspiration to be honest. I just bought raw land in Tennessee that has a lot of pine. My plan is to build a small cabin. Thank you again for the videos
You have inspired me to buy a piece of land and build my own cabin. I'm not as experienced or knowledgeable, but I figure if you can do it (and my great grandfather could years ago), it might take me a bit longer, but I bet I can too. The land is bought and the driveway is cut! now for the hard part!
I like the idea of just having a power station for those short stays, not spend a lot of money on a permanent solution that won't get enough use to justify it. One idea I had for those, though, is to also carry along one of those portable (like roll-up) solar panel setups. You could toss that on the roof, or some other convenient location, when you arrive, and have it keeping the power station full. When you leave, you take it with you. As for 16 x 20 being like a house...we think we're seriously downsized living in our fifth wheel, which I think is a bit over 400 square feet, vs the 320 of the cabin. It's like a "tiny house" in that regard.
I spent a summer working for a master carpenter in my teens, yet I still learn so much from your videos! In addition, I get inspiration! Great stuff! 😀
Fantastic content, clear instructions, practical, clever and useful!! Loved this from start to finish, even though I've seen the "long version" of each of these cabins. Always happy when you put out a video!
I have been following you for years, this channel was the reason to buy land (I already bought it) and one day be able to build my cabin in the forest, greetings from Chile
Great video, thanks, When you were fitting 8inch insulation between the floor joists rather than crawling underneath to fit the ply to the bottom of the rafters you could fit strips of say 4-5 inch wide ply to the underneath of the floor joists before fitting them then use this to support the draw technique shown earlier.
I can't swear that I watched each of these cabins being built originally but pretty sure. I know I watched the one with the tree in the deck, and the other smaller one, but I have watched them all since the TV show, and want to go further back at some point. Love all of his videos!!! The whole family is so great at building. I never knew that, but boy, i will definitely remember that!!! Thank you!! Thank you!! THANK YOU!!!❤❤❤ YOU ALL ARE AWESOME!!!!!
Dave, in 2012 I built an 8' wide 12' high 16' long cabin style shed with a half loft. I used T 111 with 1' x 1' red stepping stones for the foundation. I used drywall screws because I basically hate nails. I marked most areas with a carpenter's punch and drilled pilot holes. I could live in this shed. We use it for a combination of things one is storage and my outside cats love this shed. They enjoyed sleeping in it for about two years and still do if it is raining. It has both interior lights & night lights.. Plus exterior solar lights mounted on the shed and solar yard lights mounted on the side of the shed. Gary cat is in their right now along with one possum. We try to keep the raccoons out because they make huge messes. We have 7 raccoons who visit every night. I have outside elevated boards for walkways and animal feeding stations. One upside down mounted large plastic tote above their food & water. The cats and raccoons enjoy playing on and all around this shed and playing in our avocado tree. I have a 1' wide 1" thick board with sides going from an elevated feeding station to a fork in the tree. The boards are lined with pool noodles so the animals do not accidentally fall off & so the board does not damage the tree. As mentioned one plugged in light at the primary outside feeding station and solar lights. I still do projects to and around the shed mostly for fun! I enjoy your videos!
I'm watching while just chilling while eating soup in my apartment in a major city, with zero imminent plans to build anything at all in the near future
Hard to say which cabin I love most but i'm leaning towards the 12X12 cabin with a half loft. If I was a younger man (72) stick framing over a log cabin suits my taste best. Dave as always I'm a big fan of everything you build
If you have to stand a large wall by yourself, nail a long 2x4 to the top corner just like a brace. But do it while its on the ground. It will hinge up as you lift so you can take breaks and reposition yourself as needed.
Crazy how I don’t have the attention span to sit through a Hollywood movie these days. But when Dave puts out a video, he has 100% my attention.

What an excellent review of the cabins! I have watched the individual builds many times but this video has some extra info that I was curious about and you answered questions I didn't think to ask! I love the work! Keep em coming Dave! 😊
Thank you so much Dave for showing us your cabin builds! I think you've given us much valuable info to work with!❤
Your so great at explaining. We love your videos! I built a cabin up 3500 ft in north central washington mountains
Yes! This is the exact channel I have been looking for. You explain and demonstrate perfectly. Great job!

Hey Dave Whipple! Great video. I love the focus on the different techniques. Thanks for making this video.
I did my layout the other day from your videos. Perfect timing for some motivation to get back at it!
Total gem on RUclips! Keep up the good work!
I am myself going to do something like this when I get the chance. I just need to get out of office life. :)
Don't want to have regrets at 80.
You won’t be disappointed. I built a cabin and porch in my back yard. I’m hardly ever in my real house.
Man, I’ve learned a lot from you videos and am currently building a cabin using many of your ideas. Thanks for all you do and share! Cheers! -Ryan
Love all these cabin builds Dave and thanks for putting them all together in one video.
Beautiful idea to put all four build into one great movie! Thx!
10 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️! DAVE YOUR BUILDS ARE EXCELLENT AND THE EDITING OF YOUR VIDEOS IS PERFECT 👍 YOUR A MASTER AT MAKING CABINS OF MANY TYPES AND YOUR IDEAS ARE IN MY CABIN!! 😊thanks for your ideas!
Thank you kindly
Wow. There must have been a great deal of editing in this video. Nice job.
Love all of his videos!!! The whole family is so great at building. They inspire me to want to build my own rather than buy a shed (that has doubled in price), and it isn't as structural sound as building it yourself. The chinking part got me!!! I never knew that, but boy, i will definitely remember that!!! Thank you!! Thank you!! THANK YOU!!!❤❤❤ YOU ALL ARE AWESOME!!!!!
I really appreciate all the details you delve into here and your openness in sharing it all!
Thank you for helping me find my home.
True Craftsman 👍
love your videos cant wait to build my own cabin here in alaska
Sometimes the algorithm is scary as I'm looking into how I'm gonna subfloor a project a hour ago and this video pops up!
I'm watching while just chilling while eating soup in my apartment in a major city, with zero imminent plans to build anything at all in the near future
Great video Dave! Love your KISS ( keep it simple stupid ) way of doing things.
You and Brook are great. Beautiful work.
oh another great video as usual. its getting me excited to start a project
Hard to say which cabin I love most but i'm leaning towards the 12X12 cabin with a half loft. If I was a younger man (72) stick framing over a log cabin suits my taste best. Dave as always I'm a big fan of everything you build
I am back now didn't leave you at all Dave !!! Love how you do these things All of them in the cabins !!!
If you have to stand a large wall by yourself, nail a long 2x4 to the top corner just like a brace. But do it while its on the ground. It will hinge up as you lift so you can take breaks and reposition yourself as needed.
Great video. I have had to download it as I don't want to miss anything! Keep em coming - I do recognize they are a ton of work!!!
Man, I love this channel! Thank you, Dave. Good to see you.
The 10 x 16 you built is my favorite❤
