    12% gradient and headwind... why!? Excellent question!! Thank you for your authenticity. I am grateful I fell upon your channel. I feel like the most important part in these types of videos is the storytelling, how you tell your story and the point of view you choose to tell it from; and I very much like it!! I fully appreciate the honesty and I can already feel you two have evolved in the first two months of travel! Thanks for sharing

    A lovely episode, I'm really enjoying your travels. Coming down from Etna looked freezing.
    We were in Sardinia 4 years ago and loved the island but we didn't like Catania as it felt edgy and unsafe. On the second of our two days there was a shooting in a nearby street.
    We spent a lot of time in Palermo and love the city.
    Looking forward to seeing more of your travels.
    Thank you for sharing your journey.

    Great video again of places that we loved to travel through. In May 2013 we rode our bikes from Ragusa Ibla to Gela via Vittoria and the riding was really quite good. There was a very long and scenic descent to Vittoria, but it was a gradual gradient and would be OK to ride up. Between Vittoria and Gela the road was a Strade Statiale but the traffic was low as it was during la siesta. This was a less interesting section of the journey however, apart from the many kilometres of greenhouses to grow vegetables. Traffic was not any problem for us. Gela, Ragusa, Modica, Siracusa and Catania, all the cities we visited and had great experiences there. Wonderful to see it all again!

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  Год назад +1

      Hey Peter,
      we did not talk to Ivan ourselves, he was on the phone with Carmen or Chema, but apparently he did not like the greenhouses, gradient and slope. In any case, taking the train chaotic like this was kind of fun, but we also felt we could just have cycled our way up to Ragusa. You life to learn, right? ;-)

      @@AmazingWorldBikeTour the joy of most roads in Italy (and France) is that the gradients are so wonderful - a consistent and easy 4-5% with flat switchbacks. Much nicer than the 5-10% grades we have here in SE Australia with steeply banked curves. Design for cars rather than for sensible transport.

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour

      @Peter Signorini In our imagination Australia is flat 😅

    I plan to cycle the south of Sicily in summer. Starting in Pozzallo and move west on the southern coast of the island.

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  Год назад

      Our pleasure. How did you decide on that? Between Gela and Agrigent the coast was not very remarkable most of the time. Many greenhouses, not very special. Will you go all the way to the west?

      @@AmazingWorldBikeTour I am, South African but live in Malta for the past few years. It's a easy ferry over to Pozzallo and back. I will only go for a few days 5-7. See how far I can get before I catch a train back to Pozzallo to ferry. It appears the south is less congested and more cycling friendly.
