2:44... "we always aim for simple and catchy vocal lines" right... because when i think of simple and catchy vocals, meshuggah is the first band that comes to mind.
i like the bit where they talk about the sound engineer guy i was expecting him to say "hes a good guy he knows us well he knows what hes doing and he has a BADASS BEARD so we let him play with our musical knobs"
On the surface level: A slow, clean and melodic instrumental piece that they put at the end because it would have slowed down the album if it was anywhere in the middle. On the deeper level: Whatever it means to them, and whatever it means to anyone listening. Just like any song, or rather, any piece of art.
@@AsAugustSleeps certainly possible but i wonder what they were thinking while writing it and deciding to put it on the album. There are hundreds of riffs and compositions in their arsenal that we'll never hear...so they thought, for whatever reason, this one is good enough to not only be on the album but also be the closing track. It's also significantly different in it's vibe compared to the rest of the album.
Worthwhile bands from 1987 that still exist: Alice In Chains, Asphyx, Autopsy, Darkthrone There's at least 100 from even further back that still exist that are extremely important and influential.
all of the from the era that still exist is a testament(no pun intended) to the power of the music. Think back to the day when it all started and all the haters......lol
Stupid question that I feel everyone asks on videos like this.. but does Jens use vocal fry or false chord? They sound fry ish, but they're so goddamn powerful!
my real name is jose luis armenta and i think the tempo is so slow like a turtle trying to run the best albums are catch 33 and obzen this album i ´ve only heard it twice
Jens sounds so much better in this than he does on any of the records. His screaming voice clearly has a very pleasing quality to it but in the mix it just comes off as harsh and raspy.
This music is so representative of 2010's, heading to one of Meshuggah concert through an industrial suburb late in the evening I was listening to it, my couple exploded few weeks ago and I was alone in the car... Interesting feeling of desolation, lonelyness, sadness and in the same time a touch of beauty thanks to Meshuggah🤘
If you ever record an album, you'll understand the state they're in. Trying to keep focus and creativity 8 hours a day for weeks is a tough psychological process.
2:44... "we always aim for simple and catchy vocal lines"
right... because when i think of simple and catchy vocals, meshuggah is the first band that comes to mind.
bbgunsshootbbs what he really said was they aim to keep it simple. Not catchy
So enticing, the retaliation, chords of man
That translation was really off
basically pure pop.
They hardly laugh or joke around, all work and business. We should be grateful for all the effort they put into their music.
If i was being yelled at by Jens, I would probably listen.
I would've headbanged
2:53 - 3:44
Jens Kidman *literally putting 110% of his vocal powers in that recording like it's nothing.*
Well no not like it's nothing, like it's koloss
@@sawyeratkinson youre funny
I wish I was younger so I could have made "Of course I am having buns!" as my senior yearbook quote
I love how the veins in Jens's neck are about to burst!!
swedish is such a beautiful language... started liking it eversince 'Let The Right One In"
"I forgot to breathe... but it worked out" LOL
"jag glömde borte, men ja ba körde"
i like the bit where they talk about the sound engineer guy i was expecting him to say "hes a good guy he knows us well he knows what hes doing and he has a BADASS BEARD so we let him play with our musical knobs"
Their guitars have a 30'' scale length . That's why .
He actually never says catchy, dunno why they translated it like they did.
Awesome people, the recording process seems more work than fun with meshuggah
Finally an album that can actually match "chaossphere" and "destroy erase improve" awesomeness..
Search for "Meshuggah - The Movie" here on YT to see some other sides of their personalities.
does anyone know the significance of The Last Vigil? or is it the usual "what you interpret it to be"?
On the surface level: A slow, clean and melodic instrumental piece that they put at the end because it would have slowed down the album if it was anywhere in the middle.
On the deeper level: Whatever it means to them, and whatever it means to anyone listening.
Just like any song, or rather, any piece of art.
I always kind of viewed Koloss as a story of the world coming to an end. The Last Vigil being a requiem to the now empty world post-annihilation.

Amazing vocal tip - whisper sketch
I wanna hear this album in Daniel's studio!
am I bananas or is the gentle dreamy music something that would become "They Move Below" after quite a decade?
It's The Last Vigil, the final track on koloss.
Jens is 46 years old.... How the HELL does he do it?!
He must be a fucking grown up wunder kind!
DID YOU SEE THE VEINS IN JENS'S NECK
the best fridge in the entire fucking world!!!
Jens is my hero
...men skit samma... HAAAA!! Jaha va fan börja vi nånstans!
4:10 I would like to have fridge magnets like these
Love seeing Dick wear a Skynyrd shirt. They should tour together, haha.
are you talking about the one from PowerPipe? he just threw a bunch of clips from the documentary together
You're right, let's not try to understand anything. Things are much easier that way right?

well they're from before 87 but yes of course. Rush is the greatest band of all time.
all of the from the era that still exist is a testament(no pun intended) to the power of the music. Think back to the day when it all started and all the haters......lol
shit just realized i have been watching part III before part I and II ... ill be right back.
0.72 for Drop B and A? you like your tension really tight?
1:46 Was this interview done on the Citadel judging by the music? Because I wouldn't be surprised if Meshuggah were Reapers.
Produced by Anders Bjorler!? That's awesome!
Stupid question that I feel everyone asks on videos like this.. but does Jens use vocal fry or false chord? They sound fry ish, but they're so goddamn powerful!
He uses a mix of it all, including real screams, but mainly fry technique.
where's part 1?
I need me one of those amazing looking beards. But since im not nearly as badass as any of theses guys I will fail.
Metal : Serious Business.
:P
vad snusar dessa herrar för nåt? nån som vet?
what brand and gauge of strings do they use??
his voice I focused on
Ultrasone?
hell yes, I guess it's called "intensity"!
1987? I don't think any band worth while exists still from then
Gillar sättet de jobbar på! Lite kaotiskt kanske men coolt.

Hello its been 11 years. Turtles are fast. Tortoises are slow.
Tomas Haake writes the lyrics bud.
And did vocals in some of their songs
LMFAO!!!!!! i thumbs up this response :-D
sååååja! :D
2:57 LOLD
I've never been a fan of Jens vocals, but his lyrics kick ass.
Tomas Haake writes pretty much all lyrics though

Not a fan of the vox but the band is superhuman.

Just tired I guess. They're actually super funny guys
