    The Chinese seem to build their rockets the same way they build their warships -- through incremental improvements and revised iterations over time, instead of throwing money into revolutionary fresh designs every time. And they maintain this pace quite relentlessly.

After all, since the tentative end of the Chinese Civil War, the Americans have been trying to turn this idea into a reality. Back then, when the idea was first proposed, the leader/dictator of the Republic of China, which was an ally/vassal of the USA, rejected the proposal from his American "ally" because hey, what kind of "ally" proposes such a thing??? Plus, the USA itself is better suited for such a partition. World peace even depends on such a partition of the Eww Es A.

  • @i-love-space390
    @i-love-space390 Год назад +25

    Thanks for the update. Very informative.
    The original LM9 design uses the most intelligent aspects of the Saturn V and bypasses the difficulties with combustion instability by using smaller dual chambered designs and massive clustering. They stuck with simple, known, cheap kerosene to get off the pad, then drop the weight and use high performance HydoLOX for the upper stages. Gives them payload almost identical to Saturn V and better than SLS.
    (SLS has got to be one of the stupider designs that looks like a throwback to the 1950's Atlas stage and a half design. Since they lug the enormous tank almost to orbit, they end up with less payload to orbit than Saturn V even using those high performance HydroLOX engines on the sustainer stage. Stupid.)
    I figure the Chinese will follow through on the Saturn like version and get it working for an "edge of their capability" 1969-style race to the moon. They might figure that the US is one disaster away from going all wobbly, and figure they can still beat us back to the surface - with a great propaganda coup.
    Then they just wait for SpaceX to make all the mistakes possible and fix the problems on Starship and then use espionage to copy it.
    Hopefully, Gwynne Shotwell doesn't have a heart attack or throw up her hands and leave over the "baby man" Elon saying something awful. (I mean does his ego let him admit that without Gwynne, his entire crew would get pissed off and leave?)
    As long as we don't go all wobbly, we are still 6 -10 years ahead of China in capability, but they are willing to spend the money necessary to catch up, so we need to keep pushing.

    In fact, the Chinese communists were inspired by the march of a Brazilian Army lieutenant named Luiz Carlos Prestes through Brazil between 1925 and 1927. This march was called "Coluna Prestes". The march had a range of 25,000 kilometers across Brazilian territory. The Chinese communists read the book by Luiz Carlos Prestes, were inspired and made their Long March through China, which is a country a little bigger than Brazil. We Brazilians did not manage to carry out our communist revolution, but the Chinese did. I am Brazilian. Big hug from Brazil.

      @hjhghj462 Год назад

      Nope, China often has long marches to resist foreign enemies in 5000 years China history. It has nothing to do with Brazil even didn't know where Brazil was at the time.
      The key to China's success is not communism but the long history and culture of China. When the Chinese communist party realized communism defect they return to Chinese culture and used communism and capitalism to feed Chinese culture then miracle was born. It's called socialism with Chinese characteristics.
      Other countries can refer to but cannot copy China's success, because China's achievement stems from Chinese culture.
      Chinese culture is the original true king.

    they have 3 tracks for the lm9, one is the known tested design, one was meant for starship and the third is configurable. The first has always been the failback way. Recently they also took a gamble with 3d printed kerosine powered rocket and did a test commercial launch. China does take calculated risk. Unlike US which has unlimited funding from the printing machine. What allows US to do all these research is because USD is allowed to be the iou currency, not long for now, USD will no longer be a reserved currency, every dime stolen must be repaid to the world

    Long March 9 is still a long way from SpaceX's Starship. Starship is fully reusable and is only in 2 stages. Long march 9 being 3 stages means its not fully reusable, most likely only the sea level boosters are reusable.
    Another thing to note is if Starship is to be used as an expendable spacecraft, it could carry up to 250 tonnes.

    No one doubts the Chinese ability to build a SpaceX like rocket that is maybe not initially but over time reusable. I doubt they would be left out of getting to the moon if they can help it. It is also interesting to see that they unlike NASA are able to develop new rockets and improve them over time rather than spend decades deciding to build one than another then the next and every time facing massive cost over runs and insane delays along the way.
    I think that it is high time for the US but also Europe and Japan to look at what is happening in the rest of the world and learn from those that are successfully developing new rockets at a pace that these 3 can only dream of. Sure they will claim that they are going to rely on commercial organizations and so on but there is a huge issue with that. What if for what ever reason the US wants to build a new space station with dimensions that cannot be accommodated by the commercial companies? Or what if the commercial companies decided to no longer launch military satellites for Europe and Japan... there are many reasons why betting on the free market is a great idea but there are risks that are in the case of space flight so gigantic if they do materialize that it might be wise to at the very least retain the capability to design and build an alternative in less than a few decades and without a cost overrun that would makes even the US lawmakers blush.
