The US is main problem, is it sat on its ass after getting people to the Moon. I remember the Omni magazines when I was growing up, then I mowed yards so I can have, showing by it this time point they were supposed to be the whole city on Mars. What it really comes down to to me, is through government programs like NAFTA and shipping all the production of American Products to China to get them cheaper has enabled China to become a world leader. In my short lifespan they have went from nothing to becoming the leader in almost everything, from either development or thievery. While the US is cut NASA's budget to nothing and had everything made in China, so if the US gets beat and China takes over the moon, everybody should look at the government and point a finger where the blame truly lies as the US deserves it.

    • @tecumsehneo2174
      @tecumsehneo2174 11 месяцев назад

"becoming the leader in almost everything, from either development or thievery" Leader in thievery? The US tells the rest of the world, including China, they must COPY American style democracy and American form of government or risk being labeled authoritarian or a dictatorship. When countries like China offers to pay for American knowhow or technology so that they can improve their own standard of living, they are told no they cannot. China for example cannot purchase high-end chips due to "national security" concerns. Huawei cannot use the Android OS or Google services on the phones they make. ASML and TSMC are forbidden to sell their lithography machines and their high-end chip fabrication services to Chinese companies. If they try to copy or reverse engineer such technologies, the US call them thieves. Do parents and teachers call their children and students thieves when the latter try to learn from the former? The US dollar is the world reserve currency and with that status, the US alone has the privilege to print as much greenbacks as it wishes to pay for goods and services without having to worry about inflation as a possible consequence. That status also allows the US to borrow and accrue debt without concern. Americans can use their dollars created from paper or created digitally essentially without any cost to pay for real physical products from other countries that required real costs in terms of raw materials, energy, industrial machinery, and skilled human labor. That's what I call real thievery ... so the US still leads the world in thievery by a very very large margin. Have you wondered what the huge US GDP consists of? It's mostly in the services industry. Companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft make huge profits from their software "services" and intellectual property rights. Most Americans make peanuts when compared to the top 1% of Americans. The US media and culture warns against socialism because that's unfair re-distribution of wealth when in reality most Americans have been brainwashed to willingly work to re-distribute wealth to the tiny minority on top at a scale that boggles the mind.

Make no mistake, the American space program was constantly playing "catch-up" with the Soviet space program right up until Apollo 8 in 1968, and even after!
In every metric, the Soviets were beating the Americans in space exploration, both manned and unmanned.
It was a "propaganda" battle as much as anything else.
With the failure of the N-1, and the success of Apollo 11, the Soviets concentrated on LEO, and left the moon mostly to the Americans... who then seemingly went to (cheaper) robotic planetary exploration instead.
Consequently the Soviets kept the "High Ground" with their orbital space laboratories for decades... and the Americans were still playing "catch-up" until the ISS was built.
Now, with the Chinese setting the pace, and the Americans playing catch-up again, there is a new propaganda challenge for these respective governments to get behind.
Ought to be an interesting show.

The Space Race is no longer just about low-Earth dominance and moonshots. Thus, it is objectively inaccurate to argue that the Chinese National Space Administration is "winning" the competition. This looks at lunar exploration in a vacuum without fully recognizing the scopes of space telescopes, stellar-related missions, agendasbeyond the moon, rocket technology, and accessibility. With that rubric, the Western-led effort is obviously punching well above China's weight, despite the NCSA's exploration effort, temporarily out-performing NASA's Artemis program.

We should be having a space race with Canada or a friendly ally that is somewhat close to US space accomplishments. But I'm all for it if it brings us to putting roots on other planets or moons. Innovation from space races is always neat and pushes humanity forward. I'm all for it.

NASA budget fell from a peak of 4% of US GDP to about 0.4% GDP. It is not that NASA sat on its butt, but rather space exploration was deprioritized and NASA just had no more money. In 2021, the US spent $803 billion on its military, while only $22 billion on NASA. The chinese space agency in comparison had a budget of $13 billion and that budget is growing. If purchasing power is factored in, china's space program has as much spending power as NASA. As things stand, China will catch up. It is just a matter of time.

@@nickl5658 Yes, congressional budgetary priorities began to shift from space and other science-based programs in the 70's. That's when green began not only in the US but worldwide. Remember Earth Day began in 1972. Also, many domestic welfare programs were initiated then that are still with us today. They've eaten up trillions since then. No priorities no money, no space exploration that costs bigger bucks.
We did ok, with starvation budgets for NASA, for the unmanned space exploration programs, like Viking, Voyager, low earth orbit manned, shuttle, the many versions of our Mars rovers, Cassini, Hubble, Tess, Kepler, and James Webb space telescopes, the current DART asteroid mission, etc. etc. etc. etc. But manned deep space missions have suffered. Not seeing much from China in the unmanned front but a rover on mars and the moon, so far.
If NASA keeps getting crumbs, while stupid congressional domestic spending continues, then yes, we will be left in the dust, both moon and Mars dust. So, if you like space, stop the Democrats' spending madness in November with your votes.
And it may be time to let others take the risk and spend the money and cheer them on or mourn their humans lost in space. Fortunately, we lost none in our deep space missions to the moon. But some will die, cold and alone, soon, in the vastness of deep space in the coming years. I can see that clearly now! ;D LOL

Due to their relentless greed, we and our way of life have been sold out for profit, and now they're coming after those few domestic programs left, that were designed long ago to help the people of this country. They won't be satisfied until we don't have anything left, and they control everything. Our falling behind in the space race was caused totally by their love of $ and unwillingness to invest the money to stay ahead, and now because of that, it may have also caused some very serious repercussions in our national security, too. Over the years the republican party has always been supporting big business no matter what their agenda (and always taking from the little guy to do it) but the democrats are just trying to give something back, of what they've already lost...but both parties (and the rich corporations) are equally guilty of cutting NASA's budget to the extreme, and putting this country behind in space. Both China and the US signed the moon treaty. Grow up and work it out by following the agreement: no one owns it, no one puts weapons there. One way to do this would be to have 3 different powers - the US, China, the EU, and whoever else could afford a hefty budget - develop a joint monitoring system that would help keep the big players honest, at least to an important degree. The US is so embarrasingly hypocritical, counterproductive, and combative, that the incredible progress that could be realized with much greater cooperation will not come to pass.

Yup, so were others in first Apollo missions to the moon, in the late 60's and early 70's, those named Pete and Alan, John and Charlie, Dave, Gene, Harrison, Edgar, and others, plus those who remained in orbit, in the command module, while they were on the moon, in the LEM, like Michael Collins of Apollo 11. All that, along with those Americans who orbited the moon first in apollo 8 (and took those first photos of Earth) and 10. Apollo 13 never made it though, and barely got back safely. Big list of American astronauts went to the moon and returned alive. You are richly welcome to try to beat that record, other countries!! Good luck, .....you will need it! LOL ;D

Nothing will happen aside from China waking the competitiveness in America which is big part of their culture. America was made from competition. Tbh tho China will not get there first and there are couple of reasons why.
The first reason is the rocket. China doesn't have a rocket to get there even in testing phase. They have not even finished their engines and their rocket is in design stage.
Second reason is capsule. To go there is one thing but to establish yourself there is entirely different. They don't have a capsule big enough to transport big cargo. America not only has Crew dragon that can carry huge amount of cargo but they also have Starship which will be able to carry around 150 tons to the Moon. China would need big rocket not just to make it to the moon with cargo but also to make a space station there. And on that note...
The third reason is lackk of space station development on the Moon. You would need a checkpoint near the Moon not just for a command center but also in anything is to happen.
The forth reason is China does not have the space suit capable to sustain life on the surface of the Moon

We in the U.S. have a few other advantages that China does not.
-We've been there before and know what we're getting in to.
-Also, the moon holds a special place in every American's heart, as there is a national pride for being the first and only humans to have set foot there.
China is lacking in both of those areas, though they have other advantages that we don't. Can't wait until both nations have moon bases and they help each other out on the lunar surface (it would be foolish not to). If Americans and Russians can get along in the ISS, we can get along with the Chinese on the moon.
