I just finished my first year at American and everything you said is SO true. The social scene, food, and lack of access to the city are honestly a big part of why I'm transferring lol
Living in DC my entire life, attending the local high school (Jackson-Reed) and taking one class at American all of this is so true. Studying on AU campus has always been a headache because of how far it is from everything, and TDR is so small. The professor I had was good and they gave a ton of Academic support which I like, but other than that I would say apply to GW, Georgetown or Howard first and then go to American if all else falls through lol.
2006 AU Grad. Definitely a case of some things change, some things stay the same. Thankfully we were in DC way before it got super expensive like it is today so it was easier to live over on Connecticut and have easy metro access for all things DC. I took advantage of studying abroad in France, enjoy your trip!! Biggest change... the on campus restaurants never used to run out of food lol 🤣
thank u for this video. I would be an exchange student at AU next fall semester, so this video is very useful for me to get a sense of what AU looks like.
You mentioned that y'all dont have a football team? Why are you guys not allowed to have a football team? Football is like big part of university life!
@Nietzsche - as a former exchange grad student at AU - I really enjoyed my time there. I didn't live on campus but right across campus in a studio apt. so that gave me access to a kitchen and own bathroom which was a plus, I didn't once got to a dining hall. I feel like student life at AU is a bit closer to European Unis than other Universities / Colleges in the US - I also went to Clemson, SC, which from my experience is the polar opposite to AU and a LOT more like you would see in American movies, where it's a college town hat has everything, incl. bars and clubs, shops etc. on campus so you're kind of always in that bubble, whereas AU has a campus that is mostly education-based with a lot of the social life, bars, shops, restaurants, etc. off campus. Plus, from the POV of an international student, I found most other students to be very liberal, open to other cultures and more Euro-centric if that makes sense. I personally loved my time at AU :)
I'm from India my sister got placed in American university for Spring2023 would you recommend this for international students point of view. please answer my query!
If you have conservative or moderate beliefs I would just say your views won’t be represented or discussed in most classes or social conversations. I only brought this up in the video as something for individuals to be aware of when deciding schools, as it is a huge part of AU culture but not necessarily discussed on tours.
Did anyone ever say u look similar to danielle campbell. I swear I’ve seen someone similar and sounds similar to you. Took an hour to figure out tho 😅. Anyways great video looks like gwu and au are not really great for social life in general.
Omg I haven’t heard that before, but thank you!🥹 yeah they’re definitely not the best I’d say… but I still have managed to make friends & find fun events!

Totally agree. I hope you have a better experience at your next school 🤍

Hi, are you coming as an exchange student for fall 2023? 🙌🏽
I’m transferring to AU for spring 2023 to finish my undergrad and this was SO helpful!!!
Yay I’m so glad!😊
Thank you so much for your video! Especially for an international student, there really isn't that much detailed video like this one up there, thanks!
I’m glad you found it useful!
Thank you! This video is really helpful 🙂 I'm curious about club activities!
I’m not super involved in clubs on campus but maybe I can ask around and compile some info!
@@KierstenRae Thank you 😊
What is your view on collegiate programme, I got into that and not in degree seeking. It is a transfer program
can confirm that they do mention greek life a lot on the tours LOL
Hahah okay good I’m glad 😂
Was there a sizable veteran community at AU? I asked during a tour and didn’t get an answer about it.
You mentioned that y'all dont have a football team? Why are you guys not allowed to have a football team? Football is like big part of university life!
Came across this video. Starting at AU in ten days.
Yay! I hope you have the best time!!
Did you like it? What advice would you have for someone going into welcome week?@@KierstenRae
@@jamiefactor6598 GIRL I want to apply ED , let me know how your move in is going etc
Do you recommend this school for exchange students (Sweden)?
Yes I do! This past semester I met a couple of study abroad students, one from Belgium & one for Norway, and they loved their experience!
@@KierstenRae Oh nice! Is the studentlife in the us, like you see in movies?
@@nietzsche7384 I feel like it’s similar! But maybe less dramatic parties & a lot more homework than the movies portray 😅🥲
@@KierstenRae
Okay, sounds reasonable 😅

Are there air fryers allowed if you live in the dorms?
Tbh I’m not 100% certain and the rules depend on what hall you’re staying in!
Where are you going next year to study abroad?
I'm from India
my sister got placed in American university for Spring2023
would you recommend this for international students point of view.

So how it is there for a conservative?
